Following a harrowing crash landing, agent Craig Van Essen finds he has escaped death only to discover that his life will never be the same. Leaving the CIA to accept the position as the President’s secret agent, Van Essen quickly learns that his new job comes with a new level of danger. His first mission places him in pursuit of the person behind the most heinous crime of the century—the same person who’d also taken from him what mattered most in the world. Bringing the reader first to Switzerland, then Italy, and finally New York City, Paper Tiger provides a potent glimpse into the dark world of terrorism, espionage, and deceit. An electrifying tale of intrigue designed to engage the reader with fascinating characters and events from the author’s intricately woven President’s Agent universe. Written in Marion’s distinctive style and narrated through Van Essen’s imitable voice, Paper Tiger blends romance, action, and suspense—along with a good dose of humor—into a story which presents the reader with a new breed of The President’s Agent. Included at the end of Paper Tiger is a preview of Red Sky Morning, another intense thriller by Greg Marion featuring Mike Brennan as the President’s Agent.
I don't get a chance to read very many books that are not of a text book variety. Paper tiger will keep you on the edge of your seat and riveted until the very end.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Paper Tiger. The plot was filled with twists and turns so that I was usually a step behind in predicting what would happen next. Most of the story is told in first person from the viewpoint of the main character. At first I was disappointed to discover the use of the first person narrative since many authors do not know how to write in this format. I quickly got over the disappointment because Greg Marion definitely knows how to tell a story. I highly recommend the book and will be reading more of his books.
Really liked this book. It was exciting with numerous turns and twists that kept you on your seat. There was enough descriptive detail to allow the reader to feel like they were almost there, while not becoming boring. There was mystery, intrigue and at times kept you on the edge of your seat. It was one of those that until you finished it, you were never ready to lay it down & couldn't wait to resume reading when you had to. It is very well written and I will look for others by this author.
This is the first book I have read in many years. I got the impression that I was reading one of the old style pulp fiction books. The plot seemed to wander a bit too much for me and left a lot of loose ends. But, as stated, this is just one man's opinion.
I know that fiction should be a suspension of disbelief, but this stretches the boundaries of disbelief. The main character does have a good sense of humour, but the situations he is placed in and subsequently escapes from are implausible and too easily manufactured.
Good character development and tie ins. Plot was twisted to the point of keeping you guessing, but not convoluted like many others. The hero was believable and not a super human killing machine. He screws up and makes mistakes. Refreshing to say the least.
Characters well developed. Great plot. I believe descriptions of geographical locations was sufficient. I also enjoyed the interaction between characters.
