"What Was it Really Like?: Behind-the-Scenes Military Stories No One Ever Tells," is a raw and unfiltered exploration of the day and the life of military service members [specifically Soldiers and Sailors] through a series of personal and professional experiences that delves into the triumphs, setbacks, and near-death encounters associated with both combat and non-combat situations.
Having honorably served for over 22 combined years in both the Navy and the Army, the author unveils true and never-before revealed military stories that explicitly beg the question, why? He shares verifiable insight derived entirely from what he has done, seen, and knows to be true about himself and the current state of young adult Soldiers today.
Danny Lampkin is delighted to invite all genres of listeners, historians, and military affiliates to partake in what he believes to be the most fascinating and insightful book in this modern era.
A military thriller combined with real-world experiences and harsh truths? How could anyone rate this book less than 5 stars???? What Was it Really Like is a stirring nonfictional memoir with real life people, places, and events that occurred. The author highlights personal stories in the Navy and the Army that blew me away. I expected to read about heroism and gore. But noooooo this book was much more realistic, educational and captivating. The author signed up during the 9/11 attacks for goodness sake. Prolific read no matter what genre you're into.
Oh, my gosh! Awesome read! I have a newfound respect and understanding for military service members. First Sergeant Lampkin was the last of a dying breed. I found it extremely entertaining, insightful, FUNNY, and eye-opening. What an amazing read for anyone who knows, wants to know, or needs to know what it's really like in the Navy and the Army. Whew!
Danny Lampkin has done it again. Out of all his books, this one has to be my second favorite behind "I Carried You." Nothing fairytale about this one. This is real life military stories most veterans won't or refuse to expound on. Very brave man to unveil what he unveiled. If you're looking for a very interesting read, this is the one! Thank you for your service, Danny Lampkin, Sir!
5/5 for sure! Interesting from cover to cover. I learned a great deal and was inspired by the author's creative writing style. This isn't just a book, this is THE book.
