Slow Burn: 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥
If my emojis do not show you how much I loved this book here are the words to go with it. Lina is part of the Martinez family, they are very much intrenched in Machismo and feel that she is just working until she finds a husband and makes babies. Lina is a strong Mexican Latina Bi and Plus Sized Woman. She wants to take over the company when her Tió and Father retire. Lina convinces Gabe, Chilean son to the conglomerate Sotomayer Empire to go in on this stadium build. When Gabe comes to the Offices to work with Lina, her family mistakes him for her boyfriend and Lina realizes that it Gabe and her fake date they might just listen to the proposal.
What stood out to me because I loved this whole dang thing but here are some highlights:
1. Leonor was intentional with her language regarding gender in the book, examples like femme presenting people standing together, I loved this little change she made in order to allow readers to feel safe in the work.
2. Gabriel’s mother is a social worker- gave me all the feels as a social worker myself. It is often not a profession I see a whole lot of romance books.
3. The communication and openness Lina and Gabe had about the situation was phenomenal!! I loved the check ins, side convos and ensuring to communicate emotions and feelings.
4. This is a low stakes cozy romance and I never knew I needed these in my life until Leonor and now I cherish every moment when I get one of her books.
5. The tension in this slow burn book made me want to climb the walls but also I was lapping it up.
6. The way in which Leonor describes fat bodies is in the book with not only Lina but Gabe’s muffin top and I love how intentional she is with describing even the smallest of details.
7. I loved the friend group and family of Gabriel. I am eagerly awaiting the next books.
8. When the book heats up it really heats up!! The dirty talk from Gabe had me blushing.
9. The letter—- totally cried like a little baby.
10. The broach—- also made me cry and laugh.
11. Even though Gabe’s family is a billionaire it’s not like other billionaire romances where he spends a lot on the love interest instead it was more giving to others, charities and paying it forward.
12. The food discussions for Mexican and Chilean food!! So yummy!!
I’m so thankful to Leonor for writing this book!! I really hope you will pick this and Leonor’s other work up and give it a try because it will capture your heart and soul.

This was a wonderful read!
You get fake dating, workplace romance, wonderful Latinx representation and the wonderful bond that only Leonor can build between two MC's falling in love.
I enjoyed this book so very much. Both Lina and Gabe are such a perfect match. They are both so driven and have such admirable work ethic. I know they are workaholics but it was so inspiring to read how hard they work for their achievements.
The slow tension the two MC's develop with each interaction and "fake" date they attend, it make for this beautiful bond that none of them seems to notice is getting built. (Which I find adorable btw)
It's a slow burn romance that is just so yummy, it kept me on the edge of my seat when one would finally cave and give in to the chemistry.
There is lots of great talk on machismo in the family as well. I appreciate seeing a Latina lead curve unwarranted comments, but also dish them back. It was so awesome to read.

Torn
This is a very progressive book in some ways, and it really showcases what I believe are conversations people are honestly having with anyone who enter their lives. Especially love interests.
This also has one of my favorite depictions of Latine parents in Gabe parents. What is shown of them has been a blueprint to my own parenting style.
The following are some things that left me feeling a little...unsettled.
First, the fake relationship, he was interested in her from the beginning and refused to acknowledge it, and it didn't make sense that they had to pretend.
Second is Lina's blanket latinidad and alluded background. While we hear throughout the book how Gabe is from Chile and the pride in his culture... we don't get to find out where Lina is from. I do believe this is due to the fact that, for the most part, Lina's family shines a bright light on negative stereotypes of Latine culture, specifically the machismo and misogyny, along with heavy gender role expectations.
Another thing that I wished would have been further explored is the fact that Lina is Bi. The one conversation about it felt very...brushed off and as if it needed to remain a secret. It made me feel like the only reason it was disclosed was to justify her attraction to a female character. As, again, there is very little mention of it, and when it is, it felt very hush hush.
Overall, this book has positive Latine representation that I know we as a community need as well as negative representation that we need to grow from. It has a solid couple who are self-aware enough to be good, supportive partners, friends, and siblings. It has a positive bro group and found family.

First of all miles de gracias a Leonor for this ARC opportunity, this meant the world and I loved every second of it 🤗

📖 Lina is a businesswoman with a guarded heart, she is set to prove her misogynistic family she is capable of taking their company to the next level, if only they would listen to her and take her hard work seriously.
Gabe oh perfect sweet Gabe 🥰 Gabriel Sotomayor is set to become CEO of the Sotomayor group after his father gets his deserved and long awaited retirement, he wants to have the kind of love his parents have which takes quality time spent together he just doesn’t have right now.
When a joined business project gives them both the opportunity to achieve their goals they will come up with a plan for a fake relationship that will make them realize what they are missing and is probably right in front of their faces.
❤️🔥 What I liked:
•They were acquaintances but they spoke the same language and were able to understand each other from the start, had the kind of unspoken connection you so appreciate with kindred spirits, even workaholic ones. The chemistry was chemistrying 😏
•Vi & Jake 😁 i need more of them asap please and thank you
•Focusing on latine families I expected a lot of meddling relatives and friends but im glad to report this pet peeve of mine didn’t happen and all the family interactions were treated amazingly.
•The author’s thoughtfulness cause she provides a list for foods explanations and also a family map so you dont get lost with all the tios and primos 😅
❤️🩹 What I wasn’t a fan of:
•The chapters were written in first person but the characters name wasn’t stated beforehand so it usually took me a couple lines to figure out who was talking, sometimes it would switch pov in a same chapter and I would be left confused
•Im an impatient reader so the slow burn was slow burning a bit too much for me, it got to a point i was so anxious for them to idk kiss at least i was crawling out of my skin 😭 the first kiss was so satisfying tho i’ll forgive it jdjdjd
🎁 Wrapping things up:
I loved how sweet the romance was, how a book with a fat latina fmc could have her love story rooted in comfort and understanding, this was truly one of the sweetest stories i’ve read, I loved that for Lina 🥺 why are men like Gabe only fictional? ☹️
I found the ending very pleasing and satisfying after worrying for the longest time it wouldn’t unfold like that. The epilogues were the cherry on top just what I needed to tie everything up 💞
This was my first book by Leonor Soliz but im sure as hell it won’t be my last 😁

Gabe ayy el dulce y perfecto Gabe 🥰 Gabriel Sotomayor se convertirá en CEO del grupo Sotomayor después de que su padre obtenga su merecido y tan esperado retiro, quiere tener el tipo de amor que ve en sus padres, lo cual requiere tiempo de calidad que dedicarla a la relación, tiempo el ahora mismo no posee.
Cuando un proyecto empresarial en conjunto les da a ambos la oportunidad de alcanzar sus objetivos, idearán un plan que implica tener una relación falsa y que les hará darse cuenta de lo que se están perdiendo en el amor, algo que probablemente esté delante de sus propios ojos.

•Eran conocidos pero hablaban el mismo idioma y se entendían desde el principio, tienen ese tipo de conexión que tanto se aprecia en almas gemelas, incluso en almas adictas al trabajo. La química entre ellos era deliciosa 😏
•Vi y Jake 😁 necesito más de ellos lo antes posible, por favor y gracias.
• Al centrarse en las familias latinas, esperaba que hubiera muchos familiares y amigos entrometidos, pero me alegra informar que este trope q odio no pasó y que todas las interacciones familiares fueron tratadas de manera increíble.
•La autora es súper considerada y proporciona una lista con explicaciones de los platillos latinos que menciona y también un mapa familiar para que no te pierdas con todos los tíos y primos 😅
❤️🩹 Lo que no me gustó tanto:
•Los capítulos fueron escritos en primera persona pero no tienen el nombre de los personajes al principio, por lo que generalmente me tomó un par de líneas descubrir quién estaba hablando, a veces cambiaba el punto de vista en un mismo capítulo y me confundía un poco.
•Soy muy impaciente y este slow burn fue lentooo, llegué a un punto en el que estaba tan ansiosa porque se besaran que no cabía en mi jdjdjsjs 😭 aunque el primer beso fue tan satisfactorio que perdono la demora jdjdjd
🎁 Resumiendo:
Me encantó lo dulce que fue el romance, el hecho de que un libro con un personaje femenino protagónico que era latina y con curvas pudiera tener su historia de amor bellísima, basada en el comfort y la comprensión, esta fue realmente una de las historias más dulces que he leído, me encantó que Lina viviera eso 🥺 ¿por qué son los hombres como Gabe solamente reales en los libros? ☹️
El final fue todo lo que necesitaba, satisfactorio después de preocuparme durante gran parte de la historia porque no sabía cómo iban a arreglar todo 🥲 Los epílogos fueron la guinda del pastel justo lo que necesitaba para una conclusión perfecta 💞

Quickish Review
You can always get me with a fake relationship turns real trope and this fits the bill and then some. The Latine/x family dynamics are absolutely relatable to me and I enjoyed that their professional lives were an integral part of the plot, not just window dressing. This is a slow burn but when they get going? Yessssss. Gabriel got that beta in the streets, alpha in the sheets vibe I adore. Perhaps I was ready to move on from the self imposed deadline on their relationship well before they figured it out and I could absolutely throat punch her Tio. But that made the ending all the sweeter. Definitely keeping Ms. Soliz on my authors to look for list and if any of this sounds good to you, I’d recommend this. I know I really liked it.

“Yours, For Now” by Leonor Soliz is a poignant exploration of love and connection that beautifully captures the complexities of relationships. I fell in love with Lina and Gabe almost immediately and I couldn’t not put this book down once I picked it up. The story resonates with themes of vulnerability and the bittersweet nature of love, leaving a lasting impression. These themes combine to create a rich, emotional tapestry that resonates with readers, inviting reflection on their own experiences with love and connection. 4/5!!

Truly an amazing read!!
The Latinx rep was absolutely wonderful and the characters are simply everything!
This is such a great workplace romance with a mixture of fake dating.
I will ALWAYS support queer Latinas but I LOVE seeing bisexual Latinas taking up room!! 👏👏
When I grow up I want to be exactly like Lina.
I also really did enjoy how this book talked about machismo in Latinx families. Leonor did such a great job at addressing how this affects the relationships between fathers and daughters.
I simply must recommend everyone to read this!

This is a slow burn, fake dating, plus size romance. It was the plus size female that drew me to the book. But as I started to read, it was a pleasure that while he was good looking, he wasn’t a buff, 6 pack abs kinda guy.
Lina is the daughter and niece of the owners of a midsized construction firm. A firm that she wants to be the owner of when her father and uncle retire. However due to their machismo attitudes she gets blocked time and again.
Gabe is the son of the owner of another larger construction firm family business. He is attracted to Lina, seeking her out at the yearly construction gala. When Lina approach’s him with a proposal, he and his family are all in.
While fake dating, they learn things about each other that draws them closer. It’s an interesting tale told from the Latino aspect. Of course they get a HEA without the fake break up that happens in so many romance books. Read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Leonor Soliz does it again - a cozy romance with real people. What I love most about this story is how the characters feel authentic and completely flushed out. Gabe was my favorite character and I was so touched by his family. I wish his family was my family! Soliz touches on Machismo culture in Lina’s latine identity and it’s so realistic that at times I recalled my own experiences within my own family. Soliz doesn’t just leave it at that. She weaves in intersectionality and moments where her Lina’s family loves her too. It’s complicated and Soliz captures that complexity. I cried when Lina’s father left a note. Lina is a character from my heart. I don’t see many books talking about this aspect of the latine experience and it was done tastefully.
It was so nice to see latine billionaires. Often times we don’t see books where our people are in positions of power. It’s funny too that you can barely tell Gabe is a billionaire because of how ethical his family is.
Circling back to Gabe - this cinnamon he-falls-first man was so realistic I kept imagining a younger Pedro Pascual. ALSO THE WAY HE DEFENDS LINA. My heart.
This is a dual POV contemporary romance - my only thing the book would switch between point of views without indicating the switch so I would be almost a few paragraphs in and realize “oh they changed point of views”.

I love a book with a plus-size woman who doesn't hate herself because she's fat.
Lina and Gabe were so damn sweet and perfect for each other.
The book is cozy, loving, sweet, heartwarming, and just what I needed. The spice was mid but it fit the story and the mood. There's nothing about this book I can complain about.
You have two people that both know what they want in life but, they have a one-track mind and the pressure of what it means to be the children of immigrant parents who moved from their homeland to better their lives and worked hard for it. You also have heavy latine misogyny and sexism (by Lina's uncle towards her), something that is known to be in the latine community but we do not talk about it, we live with it.
I also really enjoyed how Gabe loved Lina and her existence as a bisexual queer human wasn't negated because she now was in a "fake* relationship with a cishet man.
The author really did her characters justice with her writing of them. There is so much to appreciate, value, and love in this story. I read it in one sitting.

4.5 stars! I absolutely adored this book. Lina and Gabe are both such amazing characters and I loved their story. If you’re looking for a slow burn with fake dating that turns into real feelings AND some added family drama complications thrown in, then this will be the perfect read for you. I also loved that Lina is a plus size female main character, but also that it isn’t a big point of the book. Lina isn’t insecure about her body and her body is not a plot focus, she just is plus size. I feel like too many books focus on a woman being plus size as a piece for the plot, and not often in a positive way, so this really worked for me that she was a confident woman just living life in her body. I loved the messages that this book conveys as well. It reiterates that you shouldn’t give up everything for your job and that you should always ask for support if you need it. I also love how it examines the toxic masculinity that is present towards Lina from her family. Overall a great read and I highly recommend it to everyone.

the slow burn is so worth it 😍 I love the fake dating trope and this book didn’t disappoint! I loved all the other books by Leonor so I knew already I was going to love this one as well. I adore the plus size rep so much. The characters are written so well, you automatically start rooting for them. I can’t wait for the other books in this series 😍

Yours, For Now is exactly what I needed, a cozy romance with great Latinx representation and spice, that TBH surprised me! This is a really nice introduction to Leonor's writing! I do think that I might've enjoyed it more as a physical book or an ebook, because the narrators didn't do the best job evoking emotions. STILL, it was a great time! Can't wait to continue with the series.

I'm a sucker for fake dating and this one is impeccable. When two strong latinos have a common goal but one isnt taken seriously because shes a woman their work alliance takes a turn to help them reach their goals. The chemistry in this slow burn romance is insane. I loved both characters so much. They are both driven and won't give up on their goals and most importantly wont let the other give up on theirs either. I just love them.

This was such a cute book that was a perfect quick romance! I was in the mood for a workplace romance and this book was great!
The highlight of this book was definitely the characters for me! I really liked Lina; she was such a good character! I loved how strong and determined she is for her work despite her family not believing in her and trying to push her to settle down and have a family! She was so independent but also vulnerable and I love how she took matters into her own hands. I also really loved our MMC, Gabe. He was perfect, and I love how he was the perfect mix of CEO energy with sweet and caring undertones. He is also so motivated by work and his job, so it was really nice to see him open up and learn to have a work life balance as well as open up his heart to love.
Gabe and Lina were such a great couple and I really liked reading about them. They were both such determined and strong willed people, and I really enjoyed seeing them learn to open up their hearts as well as make time for love despite their busy work schedules! I also love how they are there for one another, no matter what!
It took me a little bit to get into the book, as I felt the beginning was a little quick and I wasn’t really able to really connect to the characters, but I eventually got hooked and couldn’t put this book down! I love the premise and the tropes included in the book (workplace romance, fake dating, let’s get it out of our systems, etc.), and I also loved how it tackled difficult subjects such as sexism and people who think women would be better off at home than at work. Overall, this was a really fun and quick read, and I’m excited to read the rest of the books in this series!

The slowest slow burn that is 100% worth it!! I found myself constantly yelling into the universe for them to tell each other they had feelings but when it finally happened my heart almost exploded from happiness.
Love Pedro Pascal? Gabriel radiates that same energy that we all love. Sweet, caring, understanding, and assertive when needed: IYKYK. He's a total cinnamon roll. The way he takes care of our girl Lina... SWOON!! It was refreshing to have a Latino be so open minded and the complete opposite of a machista.
We can't forget about Lina. She is a sexy, smart, sweet, and caring plus size bisexual Latina. She does struggle with the machismo that a lot of us Latinas have grown up with but I was happy she had Gabriel there to show her that things could be different and she could be and have everything she wanted.
The spice in this was sweet with just the right amount of heat for a cozy romance.
Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet cozy slow burn. It is a quick read.

This book was the comfort hug I didn't knew I needed!
It is a cozy, slow burn, fake dating, dual POV, Latinx romance, with all the feels, connection, and care that Leonor always delivers.
Lina and Gabe are both extremely committed to their work, and put their career at the forefront for the years to come, not worrying about love for now. And that goal is what leads them to start a fake relationship, since a partnership can help boost them both in each of their companies.
But the tension was there all along, and with each 'fake' interaction, the attraction keeps growing and feelings start to develop.
Lina and Gabe are both workaholics, and when feelings start to show, they both fight it, because they believe that romance will slow their careers and stop them from reaching what they aim for professionally.
As we are already beginning to expect with Leonor's work, the communication between this two characters is #goals - they are open and honest, do regular check-ins, and discuss their emotions in a truly wonderful way.
And since I am talking about the attention to detail and the genius of Leonor's writing, I have to commend the intentional use of language about gender, the natural depiction of queerness, and the fat representation - she always nails it beautifully, and this and other topics are always depicted with care and thoughtfulness.
Machismo and misoginy play a big part in this book, being something that Lina has been fighting against her entire life, and her uncle is the ultimate depiction of the obnoxious Latino middle-aged man, who sees no-worth in a woman besides marrying and having kids, and this had me in the edge of my seat, ready to punch him at all times he showed up and opened his mouth. But unfortunately this is still a reality for a lot of families, and I think it is really well written. And the way that Gabe shows Lina that things can be different is a great way to show how it should all be in the future. Oh, and the letter and reconciliation between Lina and her father in the end make up for all the frustration along the way.
And the food, OMG, the food! Mexican and Chilean food and culture are a constant throughout the book, and they bring everything together. You will find yourself craving alfajores and wondering where you can find some in your corner of the world!
The friend-group and family dynamics in Gabe's side are amazing, and I can't wait for the next stories about this chosen family and their shenanigans.

This contemporary m/f romance features workaholic leads from two very different Latine families who are in the same construction-y industry. Gabriel's family runs a billion-dollar company he'll take over when his dad retires in a couple years. Lina's family runs a company that isn't quite as large, but her father and uncle have made it a competitive business. After years spent proving her worth, Lina hopes she'll get her father's controlling shares when he retires, but her machista uncle constantly dismisses her achievements and wants his own son to take over the company.
Lina has worked within this sexist dynamic her entire life so is used to gritting her teeth and finding workarounds. She proposes a deal to Gabriel where their combined companies would present a more successful bid for a stadium project than they would individually, and he agrees. But when they try to get her father and uncle on board, a miscommunication results in Lina and Gabe faking a relationship to get them to sign off on the deal.
It's heartbreaking to see how Lina's family (especially her uncle) treat her work ambition as something she'll abandon as soon as she gets married and has kids, which is the only future they seem to want for her. Gabe's family forms a stark contrast in how they unconditionally love and support both him and his sister in whatever they choose to do.
But the bulk of the book is about how Gabe and Lina *truly* love their work, and how they wrestle with the sacrifices they have to make for it. It was refreshing to see characters acknowledge their growing feelings for each other while also admitting that a work-life balance allowing for a relationship might not exist for them.
There was a little narrative clutter with extraneous characters, some of whom seem positioned to star in future installments of the series. The main plot and central romance were already intricate (and populated) enough without adding to it, but the excesses weren't overly distracting. The spice came in late and was surprisingly bondage-y, but was still hot.
Really enjoyed this one: RECOMMENDED!!!

I loved this story!! Gabriel and Lina were characters that I felt I knew for a very long time. It felt like two old friends fighting off their feelings for one another and I was rooting for them the whole time. They were easy to read and fall in love with as individuals. This was definitely a sloooow slow burn, but worth it in the end!
Gabe and Lina obviously had very different family dynamics and I felt every loss and jab that Lina’s family inflicted on her. Having the machista dynamic written in such a way that was relatable but also very raw and honest was refreshing to read in a romance novel. This was an obstacle that I feel is a very normal and real life scenario for a lot of Latine relationships. Lina’s family dynamic raised emotions in me that only made me fall more in love with Gabe and Lina’s story and root for her success. Also just soooo much cringe from reading anything Lina’s Tio says, why does he think those things are ok?! Omggg I just got so HEATED reading it all, how could Lina put up with that?! Leonor crushed that storyline and Lina’s family!
My favorite parts were just the normal things Gabe and Lina did as a “couple.” Soccer games, lunch dates, family events. Every time I just wanted them to admit their feelings for one another!!! I felt like Lina was stubborn at times and quick to turn down Gabe even when he made more obvious advances than just fake dating, but knowing her family and backstory, the angst makes all the sense. For me personally, I thought it was super super slow for the mcs to finally confess their love. While I think the lovable characters make up for the tension slow love story, I wish there was more of them navigating a relationship together than just the snippet I felt like we had.
Overall, I loved their happy ending and their versions of a successful work life balance. I hope we get a love story between Jake and Gabe’s sister too!!! I would definitely recommend this book and I am eager to check out more of what Leonor already has out there!!

Gabe, our MMC, is fighting the high expectations he’s set on himself to take over the family business as CEO, and how to show thanks to his immigrant parents that built the business and gave him and his siblings/friends a chance at a soft life. Lina, our FMC, wants to prove to her machismo family that she is capable of being CEO, even as they consistently try to push her male cousin away from the sheep farming life to come back and take over the family business. Sensing that both are looking for a way to impress their family, Lina and Gabe begin to fake date as they put together a joint project with their family’s companies, unintentionally falling for each other along the way.
A bit of a slow burn, but I appreciated the constant effort that Lina and Gabe put on trying to communicate with each other. They really had a great chemistry with each other from the jump, and it was great seeing it deepen. Gabe’s family was so sweet, I loved how they ended up adopting Gabe’s friends and were ready to do the same with Lina, while still maintaining boundaries with them! Slightly wished Lina’s queerness was explored more, but hopefully it will be down the line.
Leonor Soliz has been one of my authors that I have a huge soft spot for, the way she writes about and honors beautiful plus sized bodies is so lovely, and the way she writes about Latine culture in her characters feels so specific. While normally I’m not a fan of the billionaire trope, I really enjoy the way that Soliz tried to complicate things, even if it didn’t always work for me. If you’re looking for a cozy vibe of a story, this one will hit the spot!

this book was kinda slow at first & then the speed picked up out of nowhere and the ending felt kinda rushed
i enjoyed how leonor soliz navigated various progressive topics throughout the story. she touched upon lina’s feelings of uncertainty to how her family would react to the fact that she’s bi, as well as how people would take that if she ends up in a relationship with a man. she also was intentional about phrasing in relation to body positivity & inclusivity
the connection that lina & gabe had was really good overall. i do think that the third act “breakup” was kinda unnecessary, bc it was so quick that it didn’t really have that much impact on the plot/progression of the story
this is the first book i’ve read by leonor soliz & i do plan to eventually continue this series and possibly branch into her other series

the connection that lina & gabe had was really good overall. i do think that the third act “breakup” was kinda unnecessary, bc it was so quick that it didn’t really have that much impact on the plot/progression of the story
this is the first book i’ve read by leonor soliz & i do plan to eventually continue this series and possibly branch into her other series

narration: sofia willingham & gabriel de leon did a great job narrating this book! the only thing that bothered me with the fmc’s narration was that it sounded like there was writing/underlining happening in the background & it was actually quite distracting lol

This book was an absolute random choice after seeing an Instagram post that shared romances with fat main characters. I was in the mood for a good romance and I am always game to read one with fat representation. In this book we follow Lina and Gabe who know each other from working for their families businesses in the construction industry and while both have always had an attaction to the other they have never acted on it. Until the opportunity for their businesses to work together in an important project that would advance both Lina and Gabe's careers comes along and they discover a fake relationship might help seal the deal more securely for Lina's family who leans more traditional. They agree to a short term fake relationship till they secure the project and a better future for themselves. However, spending more time together both for work and to keep up the ruse their attaction to each other only grows stronger and more intense, can they really manage to end this when the time comes? The balance of sweet romance and fun spice is done really well in my opinion, it is for sure a bit of a slower build but it is so worth the wait. I also really appreciated that there was a solid plot outside the romance that had heft and actual consequences, making it feel more real and keeps you invested in all parts of the book. I had a great time with this book and I am so happy I decided to take the chance on a book I knew very little about. I'll definitely be looking into other books by this author in the futuree.

"Yours, for Now" tells the story of Lina and Gabe, two workaholics intent on achieving the top positions within their respective family-owned businesses. However, the men in Lina’s family don't embrace her ambitions. This leads Lina to propose a fake dating arrangement designed to help her and Gabe reach their goals.
Leonor portrays her characters with justice as she addresses the issue of misogyny and sexism, particularly through Lina's uncle, a man I wanted to reach through the pages and bitch slap.
Lina is as a strong-willed woman, confident in her fat body, who has a tough self-protective exterior. And Oh, Gabe, with his sexy love handles and sweet, cinnamon roll self. I adored the way he stood up for Lina. Even though she was good at facing down her uncle, Gabe added strength to her resilience while also providing her with a soft cushion of support to lean on.
Leonor beautifully portrays the bond between the pair and the slow-building tension of their relationship through each “fake" date. I was tearing my hair out for them to get together. But the writing and character development were so well-done that the story maintained my interest while I eagerly waited for their tension to finally explode. When it did, Gabe showed he wasn’t so sweet in the bedroom. His take-charge persona was just what Lina needed to let go of the control she tightly held.
“Yours, For Now” was an engaging read with smart, multi-dimensional characters and served as a perfect celebration of body positivity and Latinx representation.
