I want to see Fresh Blood made into a movie! While reading, I was thinking this would make a totally cool horror movie that could also end up as a cult classic, or even be filmed like the movie, Sin City!
The author wrote this so well that the reader can see and feel the surroundings just as the characters were experiencing them. It didn’t seem like I had to use my imagination at all, the author painted the picture wonderfully (and very graphically in some cases!).
Fresh Blood is about two tough as nails, monster killing, twins. It is such a cool story! The twins, Jynx and Piper (whose names I totally love!), are freelance monster hunters. There is an underground system of these hunters that is somewhat organized. It is lead by Agent Ford, who hands out the hunter’s assignments, gives financial backing, and covers their tracks when needed. The regular law enforcement agencies do not know about these hunters (or the monsters they hunt!) so all investigations for a case, have to be done secretly, and in many cases, the information needed to solve a case is obtained illegally.
Jynx and Piper get their assignments from Agent Ford, but they are the renegades of the hunters and follow their own rules. They have proven themselves to be worthy of even the toughest hunter’s respect due to their success records with their cases.
The story starts with a heart-pounding scene that sets the tone for the rest of the book. Jynx and Piper are afraid of nothing and have great dialogues with each other. They are witty and funny. I really like these characters, as they are just badass girls that back their words with their actions.
We know that something has happened to the rest of their family but are never told what. Throughout the book, there are hints about their brother that explain why Jynx and Piper are hunters. Becoming hunters was not something they aspired to be. It was passed on to them from their father but we do have yet to find out why. Not knowing this information does not take away from the book. It leaves the reader curious to find out more about the family and eager for the next book to gain more insight into this mystery.
Fresh Blood is a really fun read. It is well written with great dialog and detailed descriptions. Even though there are some gruesome scenes, the author manages to add wit and humor to them as well.
