Short and self-contained, but also action packed and not without surprises!
Highlights:
- After dealing with all the Wakanda and vampire stuff last Volume, Miles is hoping that life will settle down to something more normal. Unfortunately, this is when Anansi shows up....
- Shift, Miles' bulky clone now going by Jaime, is in a new school and not fitting in well, until Gust shows up and makes friends. Friends in battle can be friends in school.
- Zip Zephyr, a demigod of wind and far cousin to the Greek Gods, wants to reclaim his place on Olympus and is given the chance by Ares, who was recently humiliated by Spider-Man. When they collide, Ares suggests a Contest of Champions.
- Miles has determine his team quickly and the first people he thinks of is Shift, Gust, and his therapist Dr Kwan. As they go up against the demigods and Ares, Kwan reveals she is a hulk!
- Anansi's trickery and Miles' teams' skills end up winning the day, but there is always a new villain waiting in the wings.

Overall, I liked everything being contained in one Volume. Fun story as well. Nice to see Miles moving on past his odd stuff of late.
Recommend.

When your main character is bouncing around between BIG crossovers, you don't get a lot of time to invest in growing your cast of characters (or introducing new ones)...

Yes, Miles has been alllllll over the place. Throwing vampirism, upgraded powers, and relationships hasn't done much. We haven't had time to get INTO any of it. God War gives it a bit of a nudge in the right direction.

Tying him to Anansi? Gets him off the big board for a bit and we can learn more about all the minor characters we've just had to accept for months (if not years). People are complaining about there not being enough Miles in the book. I don't know if I need him to be 'front page' on every panel. Even the most popular book has to spend time detailing the supporting cast. I'm (surprisingly) looking forward to the next volume to see if we're getting more growth, or just bad guy battles.

Bonus: A gamma influenced therapist? Of COURSE she's connected to Sasquatch...
Bonus: I wonder if a six issue mini of the Wakandan pantheon would sell

This is another volume of Miles's latest series that continues to exhibit the same problem that the entire series has had pretty much since it started - Miles is basically incidental to the plot.

The idea of a God War is something I'd be all in on, I love mythical characters and stuff like that, but this essentially devolves into random characters punching each other while Miles quips from the sidelines. He only really has something to do in the first and last issues of the story, with the middle three just a big bunch of nothing.

I get wanting to tell a different kind of story, but you can't forget who your main character's meant to be, man.

I don't know that I've even label this a Godwar. It is a tiff between Ares and Anansi. What it also is, is terrible. Poor writing, bad art. It runs the gamut of typical Marvel output at the moment. The House of Ideas seems to have run out of them these days.

This run continues to drive itself into the ground and this definitely was what made it clear Ziglar is a rough writer.
