After a heart-wrenching breakup, Lauren has no choice but to throw all of herself into work; it's the only way she'll stay sane after the way Nick left her.
Lauren's life will never be the same when a twist of fate takes her on a last-minute trip to San Francisco over the Fourth of July weekend. With Ali at her side, she quickly learns there's a lot the West Coast can offer.
When she meets Landon, Lauren realizes she may have just gotten more than she can handle.
Notes to the reader from Adele: * This book contains detailed (and incredibly hot) sexual scenes and is intended only for adults. * This book is part of a long series. First section = Books 1 - 5, Second section = Books 6 - 10. All stories have been fully planned, I just need to write them! As such, expect cliffhangers!! * There will be a happy ending. It might not be the ending you want but it will be the one Lauren earns. * Book 2 is 28,900 words long * Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance

Three stars for the second installment in this series. I liked it well enough. My issues with it are its page count, lacking room for plot development. IE Lauren gets back from California and all of a sudden it's a month later. She's been having issues with Nick and we miss some key developments. We are told a very cliff notes version on their status at the end and it leaves me underwhelmed.
The series has such great potential but could further succeed if there was more to it. The development that we miss in its untold pages could have furthered the dynamic of Lauren and all the issues she faces. Overall there's not much character growth for Lauren. She's not dislikable, she's just not developed enough to be a strong lead at this point. The other characters are likable enough. Ali is a hilarious bestie and the addition of Landon is much appreciated. ;)
I also don't like how the series as a whole is priced. The first 2 books are free, the 3rd is on Kindle Unlimited and the last 2 books are $2.99 each. As a reader, I'm conscience of my purchases since I read so much. That is why I'm a fan of the KU program. But with getting wrapped up in a series where I have to pay for the conclusion, when they are not entirely full length novels and lacking plot development, I struggle to decide if I want to continue.
This review isn't bad though. Just some constructive criticism that I see echoed in most of the reviews. I am not alone in my dislike in the trend of short stories and high price points. The plot is unique, I'm just left wanting more.
Adele Huxley turned up the heat in San Francisco!! I honestly tried to have sympathy for Lauren with regards to Nick leaving her at the curb, but I just couldn't. Nick had all of my sympathy. I don't know how this man put up with her crap for so long. Patience of a saint I tell ya. The man kept trying to be romantic and give her his all. We saw that he tried. Maybe there was more happening behind the scenes that would make me not as sympathetic towards him, but since it wasn't written, I have to true.
Landon was a wonderful addition to the story. He sounds amazing. The sexual tension between him and Lauren was off the charts. And I enjoyed how Ali played off of the both of them. However, the entire time I was reading about Lauren's developing feelings for Landon, I kept wondering how her heart could hold so many men. Landon, Nick, Damon... Things developed pretty quickly between her and Landon, but when she comes home from SF, she is met by Nick, who wants to work things out. I was hoping she would let him go, but she doesn't. Another example of her selfishness. Smh.
BTW, Parker (her boss) is a real creep. Just sayin. I'm not sure in which work environment it is ok to deal with his misogyny, his assault, or his abusive behaviour, but it is definitely not ok. Why does Lauren allow it to continue???
In book two of the Playing with Power Lauren has been through the wringer. Nick has left her, Parker has tried to sexually assualt her, and she slept with Damon for comfort. She feels something is about to change for her but she doesn't know when and where its coming from.
Parker sends her to California to try and get more funding for their project. She meets Landon a mega hot entrepenuer who could be just what she needs not only emotionally but in business too. The chemistry between these two is like fire and oil. Lauren is about to come to a crossroads in her life and she has to make a tough choice succeed in business or have the man of her dreams. In the mean time Nick suddenly decides to return saying they were never broken up.
In the first book I loved Nick he was hot, he was protective, and he knew his way around a womans body. Good lord then she gave me Landon, this man is like two Nicks in one. He's hot, successful, and he makes the pages melt with what he does in the sheets.
What more could a girl ask for! Now I'm torn because l loved Nick but when he left he was kind of a jerk, now Landon wants her to choose between him or being successful. Why oh why must she make these choices. Screw it have them both and call it a day already.
Not a fab read but not a bad read either. Lauren and Ali are off on a business trip where she meets Landon and sparks fly, sex is had then she returns home! I actually liked Ali more in this book and I was left wondering what happened to the man at the end of book 1 that gave Lauren the book! He’s briefly mentioned but what part does he actually play in all of this? Landon is all kinds of drool worthy but I feel sorry for Nick and need to see he’s ok! I will read book 3.
this series is starting to get interesting. Good intensity within the story all the way through. Lauren is a n engaging character, that you just want to see succeed. I think my only qualm is that the work side of Lauren's life, which honestly is the bit that thrills me (yes, I'm boring, sorry), doesn't progress much in the entire book. There could be so much more here.
What a breath of fresh air! A strong female character with a sharp intellect and keen wit. I found Lauren to be a completely relatable figure. I was drawn in by the dynamic of the different male characters. The story is well written and I enjoyed reading it. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!
This series has started to pick up and I like it. I wasn't too devastated when Nick left Lauren at the end of the Book 1. Now Landon, on the other hand, is someone I hope Lauren ends up with. He is hot and has the potential to be a great BBF. I can't wait to see what happens in Book 3.
I like Landon, but I'm really looking for more of Damon. I haven't quite figured out what kind of role he is going to play in Lauren's life, other than that book he gave her and told her to read until she understood what it was trying to say.
