Dave and Sarah Anna Speer had been preparing for Armageddon for years. They thought they'd covered all the bases, and had planned for everything. It never occurred to them that the single thing they had no control over was the timing. Sarah was on an airplane with her young daughters when solar storms bombarded the earth with electromagnetic pulses. Everything powered by electricity or batteries was instantly shorted out and would never work again. Dave was suddenly alone. He was also unsure whether his family was dead or alive. He assumed that the airplane stopped working and plunged from the sky. But it was scheduled to land in Kansas City at almost the exact time everything stopped working. Had they landed in time? Was it possible they survived? This is the story of a man facing Armageddon alone. It chronicles the things he does to survive in a newly vicious world. It also includes Dave's desperate and poignant diary entries to his wife. Just in case she did survive, and somehow makes it back to him to find he didn't make it himself. In this sequel, Dave's saga continues. He struggles to survive the worst winter on record, stuck in a house with a dead man, sitting frozen solid on his kitchen floor. He is haunted by the unknown: whether his family is still alive, and where they might be. He also has serious doubts about his mental health, and suspects he might be going insane. Dave is desperate to find answers to his questions, and to find his family and bring them home. To that end, he starts making plans for a thousand mile journey into the unknown. To the place his family was headed at the time of the blackout. But first, he has to survive an Unkind Winter... From the author of last year's best sellers "Final Dawn" and "Countdown to Armageddon" comes a new tale of one man's journey through hell... alone.
After reading the first book and leaving a long review regarding all the discrepancies I still enjoyed the story line and the main character and supporting character Frank. But after only 95 pages of the second book I can no longer continue. When the discrepancies start to add up and take away from the story in my eyes it ruins the book. I wish I could continue as I have all 7 books downloaded but I can't enjoy reading this book any longer.
Another great book. I love the interaction of Dave and the rabbits. There are a couple of boo boos but I just ignore them. Looking forward to the next one.
This book was an excellent story which now has me hooked. I cannot wait to start the next book in this series. I'm anxious to see what kind of obstacles Dave encounters on the journey to find to find his wife and children.
I've always been sort of a "prepper" - although not to the degree as Dave and the other family. But, I always thought the EMP would come from a small nuke from Iran, N Korea or some other 3rd world Possum Trot nation who hates us - and most do. I'm old and retired now after 43 years as an Engineer in the electric utility business and we all knew what could happen from this. ...and I think it will one day! There were a lot of good ideas of what to do, though.
Love his characters and the hope he shows through them. I can not wait for book 3. I am sure I will re-read these a few times before the next release. Read it...you won't be able to put it down.
The adventure continues for Dave. He struggles with his own morals between right and wrong. After months of freezing cold, Spring has arrived and time to leave for Kansas City. I can't wait for the next book.
Again Darrell Maloney has written one great story. His journey continues as he spends the winter from hello alone in his safe room preparing for his next journey which he hopes will lead h I'll m to his family.
Another good easy read. I think some more research is needed in some areas but the story flows well. Worth the time to read. Now I am waiting for the next installment.
Really enjoyable series about a guy whose family is on a trip 1000 miles away when an emp hits. In this book, he prepares himself mentally for the trip.
