Georgia Williams’ murder at the hands of college pal Jamie Reynolds was a crime that shocked the chillingly executed and horrific in its sexual depravity.

But when Georgia’s devastated mother, Lynnette, and father, Steve, questioned the events leading to their daughter’s death, they discovered it was also entirely preventable.

At the time of Georgia’s disappearance, Steve was – ironically – a highly-commended murder squad detective serving with West Mercia Police.

The same force, Steve and Lynnette discovered, had had Reynolds in its sights for years before Georgia’s murder, but let him slip their net.

Drawing on Steve’s inside police knowledge, the couple exposed the litany of failures that let Reynolds infiltrate their daughter’s life, and allowed him to kill.

Now, in her powerful and moving memoir, Lynnette tries to get beyond the platitudes of ‘mistakes made and lessons learned’ to effect real change, and also details the heartbreaking aftermath of a crime that should never have happened.

Our Georgia is a shocking and deeply emotional true crime memoir regarding the harrowing and brutal murder of British teenager Georgia Williams in 2010 at the hands of disturbing degenerate Jamie Reynolds who had harboured some extremely deviant fascinations since the tender age of 15. Detailing the run-up to the crime as well as the crime itself and its devastating aftermath not only for Williams's family but also that inflicted on the wider community of Wellington as a whole, it rapidly becomes a visceral and truly emotive read throughout.

As a cynic and a true crime enthusiast, these two things often converge when I hear stories such as this which are sadly all too common. Here, the police were not only careless in innumerable instances about Georgia's case, which is bad enough when you often have only one chance to get something correct, but they then decided the way to go, stupidly, would be to then cover up their indiscretions.

To lie, deceive and place the blame on everyone but themselves. This naturally just made them look even worse. This was a case that took over the British headlines at the time due to its detail and severity and the fact that even when your father is a high-ranking member of the police force, and you are murdered, his employers are not immune or averse to lying to you, either.

A horrendous story that has everything - an innocent victim, a twisted murderer, helpless parents and a useless and less-than-truthful police force. I'm pleased the family decided to out the truth and tell their story. It's the least they deserve. A compelling yet ultimately heartbreaking tale of freaks, faults and failures. At once a haunting personal story and a critique of modern policing. I hope the family manage to find some closure.

This memoir hit me hard—it's powerful, heartbreaking, and raw. Lynnette Williams lays bare the unimaginable pain of losing a child to a brutal murder, while also having to confront the incompetence of the police. As I read, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of this family’s years-long fight for justice. It’s tragic that they were forced into this exhausting battle, and Lynnette’s bravery in sharing such a personal story is truly remarkable. Her words pulled me deep into her family’s sorrow, frustration, and unwavering determination, leaving me moved and deeply affected.

Despite all the heartbreak and betrayal, Georgia’s family never gave up. They fought—and still fight—with a strength that took my breath away. Their resilience is a testament to love, justice, and the sheer will to create change. This story will stick with me, reminding me of the incredible power of those who refuse to be defeated, no matter how impossible the fight.

Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for the opportunity to read this advance copy.

Thank you to Robin Eveleigh; Lynnette Williams, Mardle Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I warmed to Lynnette from the very first page. As she relayed Georgia’s early years and stand out moments (Georgia’s prom for example/the plane build), it was very hard not to warm to this lovely family whose life was changed beyond recognition following Georgia’s murder.

When a high profile murder case hits the headlines, we of course feel for the family but this book exposes in great detail the truly horrific aftermath. One would expect that the family could move on after the court case but the circumstances surrounding Georgia’s murder meant the family have had the worst possible time as they tried to get the truth exposed. You do read this book in somewhat disbelief. I send my biggest hugs to all of them.

This heart-wrenching memoir written by her mother begins like this:

"In memory of Georgia Lynette Williams, a beautiful human being, loving, caring, full of life, who would help anyone in need. She deserved a long, happy life, but was let down by the careless."

That is the most succinct, and truthful description of this book that I could hope to provide.

Georgia was born in 1995 - the same year my oldest child was born. I cannot help but think of the milestones her parents and older sister have been deprived of when a disgusting POS (Piece of Shit) murderer cut her life tragically, and horrifically short.

OUR GEORGIA is part true-crime story, part biography, part memoir, and part enumeration of the litany of ways the police and other government officials screwed up.

These were NOT small, harmless screw-ups.

If the police had done their jobs in the days, weeks, months, and years leading up to the night Georgia was murdered, it is an almost certitude that she would be alive today.

I am not just saying that, I truly believe it. Once you read this book, I am convinced that you will agree with my assessment.  The fact that Georgia's father was a police detective makes this all the more poignant and inexcusable.

Having Georgia's mother as the author, imbues this book with a special gravitas. Those of us who are mothers and fathers can only imagine how devastating losing a child is, and losing a child to murder is unimaginable. To have that loss compounded by the realization that her death could have, and should have, been avoided.

If you have any interest in True Crime and/or any interest in police and policing, this book must be added to your library.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

This book is the true life story of the brutal murder of Georgia, and her families battle for justice. It was a long battle due to police incompetence as well as the murder itself.

This story was heartbreaking, but also massively eye opening as to how the police seemed to care more about covering themselves than facing the responsibility they have to this family, and the public. I was quite disgusted at how the police treated this family, especially considering Georgia’s father was a serving member of the force. The determination this family has shown is breathtaking, and amazing. They have not faltered in their fight to try and change the future of policing, for future families that become victims of crime. This was the first time I’d heard of Georgia, and I feel a part of Georgia and her story will always stay in the back of my mind. I am sure that Georgia is proud of her family, and their fight for justice.

A glimpse into this family’s private horror. This was the most intensely moving, and gut wrenching account told from the most personal point of view. At times I felt great sadness and anger along with the author. The ball dropped by law enforcement time and time again leading to this tragedy is disappointing, but taking into account the relationship between the two make it so much angering. Law enforcement was more worried about how they looked and trying to covering up their mistakes, rather than taking accountability for them and being there for one of their own. This book helps to shed light on the flawed system by showing just how often victims and their families fall through the cracks. This family went through two separate traumas, losing their daughter in a horrific way and then being let down by the very system the father had given most of his life to. I did find a few points in the book drawn out and very repetitive. I am glad this story has the message of watching for red flags in other, even if they are your “friend”.

Thank you NetGalley for the e-arc.

Our Georgia, by Lynnette Williams with Robin Eveleigh, is a book powerful about a murder and the devastation it caused a family, as well as a call to action for police reform, both at their local department and in general. That said, there are things about the writing and analysis that kept it from being as good as it could have been for me.

Before I make any comments that might make anyone think I don't feel for this family, let me just say that I can't imagine the grief and anger they have experienced, and, in fact, a couple of the issues I have are ones I am not sure I would have avoided if I had been in her shoes. So my comments aren't about what she experienced but how something that horrific can understandably shade all thought about the subject.

I was interested in reading this because I tend to prefer true crime books that offer a view of the victim as a human being rather than just a murder victim. We certainly want to read about and try to understand why something was done, which means we always get a good bit about the murderer, but victims often get pushed aside. Since this is by the mother, I anticipated a nice bit of background. I was happily rewarded with just that.

I'm not going to try to highlight what was and wasn't done, what should or shouldn't have been done, that is discussed far better in the book. The police made mistakes and then tried to hide or gloss them over. This is where I had my biggest issue. Mistakes are different than misconduct or corruption. There is certainly overlap, but they are different. Some mistakes are just that, mistakes. Yet it sounds like every single mistake is perceived as not only corruption but targeted specifically at the mother. It is almost like she wants to be even more of a victim than she already is. It is when mistakes are covered up that we start getting into misconduct. And when those things happen as part of, and a hindrance to, an investigation, it certainly would seem like one was being targeted. I think, more likely, is that corrupt people were covering their asses with no concern and no thought of getting her, even if they knew what the result would be. So I guess what I am saying is that while getting the mother's perspective is wonderful on the story, perhaps someone who had enough distance to present facts without the personal investment in victimhood would have done a better job. Trust me, I am not sticking up for the police, I am an abolitionist. But clarity and rationality is important, even in an emotion-packed story like this.

I would recommend this to true crime readers as well as those fighting the corruption that is the collection of paramilitary units we call police. The story is compelling and the mistakes highlight the narcissism that is prevalent in police departments, as well as the willingness to stick together even if it means sacrificing one of their own.

The Traumatic True Story Of Georgia Williams
Georgia Williams was 17 when she was murdered by a friend called Jamie Reynolds. This book was written by Georgia’s mother, who offers a very unique perspective into the aftermath of losing a child in such a horrific way and her families battle for justice.
Georgia went over to Jamies house thinking she was helping him out with a photo shoot for a portfolio but sadly Jamie had other plans that night. After brutally killing Georgia, he then took photographs of himself sexually assaulting her all over the house which was part as a very dark twisted sick fantasy that he possessed.
Steve Georgia’s dad was a highly commended murder squad detective serving with West Mercia Police and after Georgias death it became obvious things did not add up as the case unraveled. Both Steve and Lynn began to question the events that led up to their daughter’s death. Very early on they found out that Jamie was obsessed with Snuff movies especially if hanging was involved. Sadly, this was how he had killed Georgia. Lynn and Steve found out that Renolds had been in the system years before he murdered Georgia when he loured a girl in his class to his house and tried to strangle her but she got away.
Sadly, it turns out to be a very sad story that could have been avoided as Lynn exposes a system with so many failures, into not only the police taking their eye of Renolds when he was younger and committed his first crime, but also the miss communication between psychiatrists and psychologists that warned agencies including the police that this young man was very dangerous.
All the agencies are at fault and should have seen the red flags that this young psychopath was able to lie, deceive and get away with at such a young age. I was disgusted at how the police treated Steve and Lynn, especially considering Steve was a serving member of the force.
It is a very powerful moving memoir from Lynn and Steve about what an amazing daughter Georgia was her love for life and for all the people around her. The sheer determination this family has shown is amazing, especially, how after a murder this brought the family the powerful strength for the quest for justice. They did not falter in their fight to try and change the future of policing, for future families that become victims of crime. I think after reading this book that Renolds was a chillingly disturb young man whom I think nothing, or nobody could get through to. Plus, it is very important not to forget that there is a family suffering for the rest of their lives due to his actions.
Thanks to NetGalley and to the publishers of this book for giving me a free advance copy of the book to preview and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Part memoir, part true crime, Our Georgia - The Devastating Murder of My Daughter By a Killer Who Should've Been Stopped by Lynnette Williams and journalist Robin Eveleigh is one of those books that's hard to put down.

Lynnette Williams lives in Wilmington, Shropshire, England, is married to a police officer who works for the West Mercia force, and has several children, including a daughter named Georgia. While life wasn't completely idyllic, it certainly was good, up until something horrific happens: Georgia Williams, only 15 years old, goes missing in 2010. When her body is found, things begin to unravel, as it turns out that the police knew quite a bit about her killer, Jamie Reynolds, but did nothing until he committed this horrible, depraved act.

I'm not going to describe how Georgia died, where they found her body, or what happens to Jamie after he's arrested. I'll let you find all of that out when you read the book. However, I will mention the important things here: Georgia didn't deserve to die the way that she did, and her parents do a solid job of memorializing her in the book.

Some memoirs about dead or missing loved ones tend to gloss over the details and make their child, friend, neighbor, or other family member sound like a saint. Not this book. While Georgia is described as a loving and trusting person, she's also made to seem like a real human being (which she was), flaws and all, making what happened to her hurt even more.

Once Williams and her remaining family members find out what happened to Georgia, the true crime portion of the book kicks in. Readers find out about Jamie Reynolds' past, his twisted fetish for redheads, and what he managed to get out of trouble for before he set his sights on Georgia. This portion of the book will tempt you to throw it across the room, because the manner in which the police treated him beforehand is so very frustrating.

In the end, Jamie Reynolds pays for his crime, and Georgia's family is left to pick up the pieces. You'll feel for them as well after reading this book.

Our Georgia by Robin Eveleigh & Lynette Williams is a true crime book that tells the story of Georgia Williams, a young woman from Wellington, Shropshire, who was brutally murdered by a friend in 2013. The book provides an in-depth look into Georgia's life before her tragic death and the events that led up to her murder.
At first, I thought the book was just a typical true crime story, but as I got further into it, I found myself getting more and more emotionally invested in Georgia's story. However, it was easy to forget that it was a true story as I found myself being swept away by the amazing life she led up until that fateful day. The authors do an excellent job of portraying Georgia as a real person with hopes, dreams, and a bright future ahead of her. It is truly heartbreaking to think about what she went through and what her family must have endured.
What struck me most about this book is how easily Georgia's murder could have been prevented. The warning signs were all there, but the authorities failed to take action, resulting in a young woman losing her life. It's frustrating and angering to think that this could happen in our society, and it makes you wonder how many other potential tragedies are going unnoticed. Reading this on the back of the James Bulger books, it is becoming more and more concerning how the criminal system works and how justice is often overlooked in favour of protecting the criminals.
Overall, I would highly recommend Our Georgia to anyone interested in true crime. It is a well-written and engaging book that sheds light on an important issue. While it may be a difficult read at times due to the subject matter, it is an important reminder that we must always be vigilant and take action when we see warning signs of potential harm.

♦️Georgia Williams was only seventeen years old when she was brutally killed by her friend Jamie Reynolds. The case was so disturbing that it had made headlines during the time and had almost shook the country. During that time, her father, Steve, was a detective in the murder squad of West Mercia Police. The saddest part was, during the process of investigation, it was found out that Georgia's murder could have been prevented. The same force with which Steve worked, had previous knowledge that Jamie was a sexual predator but had allowed him to slip out of their hands few years before Georgia was killed. In this book, Georgia's mother, Lynnette, describes the events before the murder, the investigation, the trial and how with the help of Steve she exposed the shortcomings of West Mercia Police.

💥It is a heart wrenching memoir which is bound to shake any human being. To lose a child is a loss which can never be compensated, but to lose one in such a horrific way is indescribable. While reading the book, one can well understand the pain Georgia's family and close ones had gone through when she was brutally murdered. The knowledge that psychopaths like Jamie exist amongst us can make anyone feel unsafe.

💥I was awed at the author's strength to revisit her traumatic moments in order to put to words the injustice she and her family had faced when Georgia was killed.

💥This book taught me that even in developed countries like the United Kingdom, unprofessionalism and corruption exist in the police force. I would highly recommend others to read this book to know how one incident can plunge a whole family into darkness.

Our Georgia is a devastating accounting of the horrible aftereffects of what happens when a family member is murdered.

The author is Georgia's mother. Georgia was brutally murdered by a trusted neighbor, Jamie. The gut wrenching waiting for Georgia to return, then the shock and horror of knowing that Georgia would never return was hard at times to read.
I appreciated the authors insights into what she was feeling, how her family was handling things, etc.

The only part I didn't like was the way that the mother thought that the killer did everything to spite her. I understand about the cell phone, but the court proceedings or the appeal was NOT to spite her and her family. Or to even extend their pain, it was the killers selfish reasons to exploit the court system.

Another drag for me was the constant rehashing of how the courts, police, probation, therapists, etc failed them. The first mention was enough, then there was the report itself, then a constant rehashing of how they failed to keep Georgia safe.

Yet at the same time I wondered, even if everything had been done by the book, would Jamie have still killed? I would say he would have. But if the justice system had worked perfectly Georgia's family would NOT have anyone to blame.
And to be clear, I am not victim shaming nor am I judging them on trying to get answers, I just felt that it was so much of the book and it was repetitive.

Overall, this book is very emotionally charged (as well it should be) and written from the family's perspective on how devastating a murder is to those who remain.

naturally, this book left me devastated and sick to my stomach. i can’t even begin to fanthom how someone can do this to another person. just reading about it was very distressing and i urge future readers to be aware of that.

that being said, certainly georgia’s family deserves to tell her story. this book was written by georgia’s mother, who offers a unique perspective into the aftermath of losing a child in such a gruesome way. i think this is very important because people who explore true crime tend to forget that at the end of the day, there is a family suffering for the rest of their lives.

it also brings to light all the failures of different organisations. it is horrible that so many mistakes were made and these organisations just didn’t communicate with each other. if they had taken the previous assaults and various other signs seriously, in my opinion it would have been very obvious that he was a ticking time bomb. as if that wasn’t bad enough, i am appalled at the way georgia’s father is treated by the police force. naturally it was going to be uncomfortable to launch an investigation into a force you still work for, but the bullying and harassment is just unbelievable.

i can’t ever put myself in the shoes of georgia’s family and all i can say is that i admire the strength they bring to the fight for justice for their daughter.

for obvious reasons, i’m not rating this book.

Nothing hurts more than the death of your own child. Death at the hands of a vicious monster hurts double and even triple. Why? Find out by reading Lynnette Williams' harrowing book, Our Georgia: The devastating murder of my daughter by a killer who should have been stopped. It is a shocking story full of pain and tears. I met Linda (mom) and Steve (dad) Williams and others there. The book is dedicated to the memory of Georgia Lynnette Williams. The girl had her whole life ahead of her. It was brutally taken from her. Leaving an open wound in the heart of her entire family. Together with Georgia's parents and the police, I was looking for a live girl. Later, the girl's body was found. Who was the perpetrator? Did he get the punishment he deserved? That's what you'll find out in this book. It's worth reading. Here you will find Georgia's parents' struggle for truth and justice. The guilty should be given the punishment they deserve. The beginning and middle of the book were very good. The end of the book bored me a bit. I don't know why it turned out like that. Nevertheless, I encourage you to read it. Georgia was 17 when she was brutally murdered.

'Our Georgia' is narrated by Lynette Williams, Georgia’s Mum, and tells the story of the time after her murder. The perpetrator is a man who had committed previous attacks on young women and should not have been free to commit this horrendous crime.

Once again, life has been lost due to Police Corruption and the lack of accountability. The force's web of deceit is hard to avoid, especially when someone's father is employed by them, like Georgia's.

This is a read that is both necessary and uncomfortable, yet it will also break your heart and bring you to tears. This reading left me with mixed emotions - angry and disgusted, yet respectful of Georgia's loved ones.

For readers who are fond of non-fiction literature, this is a must-read. Caution should be taken as the graphic details of what happened to Georgia may be triggering to some readers.

Thank you NetGalley and Mardle books for a copy of this non-fiction, true crime read.

'Our Georgia' is due for release on 12th September.

It’s safe to say I cried the whole way through Lynnette’s book. I think it’s taken me over 10 years to comprehend the murder of a friend. A bright, bubbly, energetic and wonderful friend who had a colourful future ahead of her so brutally taken away.

West Mercia police made mistake after mistake, misconduct and neglect plagues Georgia’s story. So many agencies let down the Williams’. Whole life sentences ARE compatible with the Human Rights Convention. Possibly the only thing done right in this case is keeping that monster inside for life.

I stood with countless friends at Georgia’s funeral, she touched the lives of so many people and not a day goes by where she’s not thought about.

A book absolutely worth a read. A book every police officer, care worker, teacher, judge, parent should read. If your job is to care, CARE, or move over so someone else can.

Fly safe up there Ferret, I’m so sorry it had to be you🧡

Lynette Williamson is the mother of Georgia Williams who was brutally murdered in 2013 by a person closely known to her. Lynette shares details of Georgia’s life, her passions and plans to join the Royal Air Force, her love for watching the football with her grandfather, her kindness for others. Lynette also shares intimate details learned as her parents, of her brutal murder, and the way lazy police work allowed for this to occur. This is non-fiction. The detail is extremely intimate of Georgia’s murder. Do not enter this book lightly. This is not the level of detail often disclosed in true crime documentaries. This is dark, this is intimate and should not be entered into lightly. Lynette’s extreme honesty is raw. It is painful, and Georgia’s loved ones are still living this traumatic reality to this day.

Gripping true crime account.

This is a memoir by a mum about her daughter's murder. Georgia hadn't quite been 18; she should have had all her life ahead of her.

It was easy to read, no waffle, just hard facts, and fast moving. Horrendous events, but an engaging read. Not just concerning the crime: there's lots of background-Georgia's childhood, family life etc.

A case I'd not heard of before, it was simply, and sensitively written. A terrible tragedy but gripping reading finding out how events unfolded, and how they caught Georgia's killer. An excellent book, but it seems wrong to say that, or that I enjoyed reading it-how could I, it's a family's worst nightmare-but I want to give credit to how Georgia's mum has presented this account of her life.

Thanks to Ad Lib Publishers, Netgalley and the authors for an ARC of this book. I am unbiased leaving this review voluntarily.

I've never read a book like this before - a brutal crime and its consequences told by the mother of a victim. The style is almost conversational and Lynette's voice comes through clearly. I can hear her Welsh accent in the words (no idea if she has one but that's what I heard in my head while reading).

This is an extremely raw account of an unimaginable tragedy and I felt my heart go out to Lynette, Steve and Scarlett and Georgia. Having said that, because of its emotion, it was sometimes difficult to read.

In any case, this book provided a unique perspective and it's one that should be read.

This real life memoir has Lynette speaking of the horrific and brutal murder of her 17 year old daughter, Georgia. This is an emotionally devastating and heartbreaking story. No one can ever know how terrible this was for Lynette and her husband, Georgia's father Steve, who ironically was a commended detective in the Murder Investigation Unit at the time. Lynette speaks of many if their feelings which involve anger, upset, devastation and still having that glimmer of hope that she would come home. The worst thing is if the police had done their job properly a few years beforehand, Georgia's death could have been avoided. Such a heartwrenching book so make sure you have tissues at the ready.

We never learn!!!! We never will!!!

Humans are complex. For all the bad in this world, there is an insurmountable good around. Never give up on the good. I hope that I never have to experience the hardest thing ever to happen in one's life. I want to say thank you for sharing the Williams story. I hope it was somewhat cathartic for you to tell. Lean on what you have now and never forget Georgia. I believe she would have been proud of you carrying on her testament to life as she would have herself.

Such a sad and grim tale, but Georgia's parents sheer determination was inspiring. Her mother writes movingly about her early life and their joy in their family, before it was all taken away from them by a heartless, mindless killer. West Mercia Police have a lot to answer for, and the fact that Georgia's father was treated so badly by his own police force, after her death, is appalling. Heart-wrenching throughout, an essential read.

I received a free copy of, Our Georgia, by Lynette Williams, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Georgia Williams was brutally murdered by a man she considered a friend. Jamie is a sick individual who should of been put away before this happened to Georgia. Georgia was a lovely girl who had her whole life ahead of her, until it was cut short. This is a well written book about a horrible man.

Wow...what a tragic story! I feel so much for the family & all they had to go through, especially when it seems like it could have been prevented.

I'm sure it took a lot of courage to tell the story, thank you for your frank honesty.

I enjoyed reading about Georgia. Lynette did a great job telling her story & fighting for justice for her.

Thanks to Netgalley & the Publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

This was such a powerful and heart wrenching story. Written from the victims mothers point of view, it’s a nice change to hear more about Georgia and what she was like instead of being glossed over as can happen when books on true crime are written and get more focused on the murderer.
Really captivating read tho it did get a little repetitive towards the end.

Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this ARC.

This was a gut wrenching true crime story from the mother’s point of few of their daughter that was murder. I can’t even imagine what they went through having to hear about the murders past history in which there was miss communication with physiatrists and physiologists and the police department, hearing how their daughter was murdered, the murder trying to appeal the life sentence. Thank you NetGalley for a copy of the e-book in exchange for my honest review

Unbelievable

I don't know how you endured not only the death of your beautiful daughter but all the mistakes made by those in jobs of protection.
You and your family have so much strength and integrity as shown throughout this book. I hope you have found some peace.
My husband was a member of 1130 when we met in 2007 and he loved it too.
Everyone should read this book as a precaution!
