Brook Ridge Falls' favorite bakery owner, Lexy Baker, has everything she ever wanted. A new husband she adores. A thriving bakery business. Everything is going great....
Until a new bakery springs up across the street and tries every trick in the book to put her out of business!
Lexy smells something rotten about the bakery, and it isn’t just their stale brownies. When her own bakery is broken into, she knows who did it...but what she can’t figure out is why.
Could the new baker be after her great-grandmothers prize winning scone recipe, or is there another more sinister reason?
Meanwhile....
A grizzly discovery in the sewer system sends her and her gang of iPad-toting grandmas off to solve a decades old crime under the streets of Brook Ridge Falls.
Could a 70-year-old crime be related to the new bakery?
USA Today bestselling author, Leighann Dobbs, discovered her passion for writing after a twenty year career as a software engineer. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband Bruce, their trusty Chihuahua mix Mojo and beautiful rescue cat, Kitty.
Her book "Dead Wrong" won the "Best Mystery Romance" award at the 2014 Indie Romance Convention.
Her book "Ghostly Paws" was the 2015 Chanticleer Mystery & Mayhem First Place category winner in the Animal Mystery category.
A short but sweet cozy mystery. I figured out one of the culprits from the start but there was a plot twist. Mostly, the appeal is the characters more than the mysteries and I can't wait to read the next one.
Scones, Skulls and Scams by Leighann Dobbs is the 8th book in the Lexy Baker Mystery series. Sewer works in the street outside Lexy's bakery unearth an old skull, leading Lexy and her grandmother's friends on an investigation of an old bank robbery with money still missing, while Lexy also has to contend with a rival bakery across from her. A great little mystery involving a modern day treasure hunt in the sewers. A lot of fun although the reasons for the second bakery were a bit of a stretch. Lexy's grandmother and her friends are smart and capable and always entertaining.
I know you’re supposed to have fun with these books, but the fact that the baker across the street took out a lease to have a bakery that sold items that came from the grocery store just to put Lexi out of business so that she can investigate under the Cup And Cake was a huge stretch. Why not just break in and find the door that way? It would have been less work and much cheaper. She did break in once, but it would still be easier to do a second break instead of all the money it cost to have a store front.

This story is total redemption from the series' previous title! The seniors are in fine form and full of their usual vitality, charm, and humor. The mystery-solving is fun to follow and, although the miscreants are obvious, the details of the "why" really add to the story. It's surprising that Lexy is basically a rather childishly petulant sidekick to the series named for her, but I've really been enjoying these clean cozies!
The more you dive into the series, the better it gets. Each tie I start a new book in this series I get all giddy and excited. The Lexy Baker series follows a young baker and her crew of amateur sleuths. The dynamics between the characters is hilarious and the events fast paced. The story flows quite fast and I find myself unable to look away from this series. I highly recommend the audibook series for this, as the narrator - Hollis McCarthy - is an incredibly talented voice actress.
The Lexy Baker series is similar in many ways to J Fluke's Hannah Swenson series. Sweet, cozy mystery where a dessert shop owner is an amateur slueth with a detective boyfriend, with supporting characters of the baker's pet, friends and family. Harmless, light, fun. Widely available on Libby and HoopLa. In this book, the wealthy character

the former criminal that hid the stacks of cash and currency in the hidden rooms under Lexy's shop.
This was an enjoyable book to read, with another bakery directly across the street from Lexi's that sells store bought items? A skull with two front gold teeth. Then the Ladies Detective group sets to work trying to solve the mystery how can any thing go wrong? ENJOY!!
This episode was a bit different ad you knew who the baddies were, you jusf had to see how uut all came together. When it came together it hit the mark perfectly. Wonderful story and told well.
Cute mystery. The main character is obviously Lexy Baker Her grandmother Mona and the grandmothers 3 friends are trying to solve a murder. The characters are sweet for the most part It's nice to take a break from all the serious books and read something in the lighter genre Fast reading
Lexy along with her Nan and her Nan's friends go sleuthing again and this time it's in the sewers. A bakery has opened up across from Lexy but the owner is not a baker and she's not the only one who's up to no good. Very enjoyable series. Recommend
Some of the other books in this series had better developed story lines. This one seemed rushed and had less to offer. I'm not a writer, just a reader, so my opinion is only my opinion.
Issue and the women's detective club really score in this adventure. E an going down in the sewers they solve a bank robbery committed 40 years ago. Really fast moving adventure. I totally enjoyed this adventure
The amateur sleuths are at it again. They crawl around in sewers to solve this one. A great escapade. I enjoyed this installment of Lexy and the amateur detectives.
Lexy is back and now a married woman, having just returned from her honeymoon. When she returns she discovers a new bakery across the street has popped up and the new bakery is eerily similar to Lexy's and trying to do everything to put Lexy out of business. As if that isn't enough, Lexy's bakery is broken into but nothing is taken, or is it?
In other news a skull is found in the sewer construction right outside of Lexy's bakery and Nans and crew are off to solve a 70 year old case which is right under (literally in the sewer) their noses.
Leighann Dobbs does it again with another GREAT Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery! You will fall in love with the characters and their antics !
It was touch and go there.....I was a little worried that the gals didn't have a plan But alas....they came out as winners again and caught the bad guy!!!!
I've been reading thru this series reminding myself that it was lite reading. But this particular book was very interesting and fun to read. I recommend it.
