As a girl, Phina knew love and affection. For generations, the great spirit bestowed healing powers on her dwindling race. Then, torn by tragedy, Phina flees her cottage and finds herself, a young woman, serving as a minstrel in the governor's palace. Her hair and eyes mark her as a healer and catch her master's attention. Her differences and abilities attract his heart. Pulled between her beloved cottage and the palace, can love bridge the gap? Will she choose the palace's security or reconcile her calling?
Phina is a delightful story of a young woman with rare healing powers from the great spirit. When savages invade her home, she becomes a fugitive orphan. Like the Old Testament, David, who was plucked from the field to play for King Saul, Phina is pulled off the street to soothe the palace governor. Readers wonder if Phina will ever be loved and accepted for her rare gift. Or will palace officials evict her when they learn of her true identity? This easy-to-read fantasy is deceptively deep. An undercurrent of traumatic healing, accepting one’s authentic self, and recognizing the hand of providence flow throughout.
I really enjoyed the story! Phina’s character was so different and I just loved her humility. If we could all be more like her what a better place this might be. Great love story!
