My Review: This is a sequel to A Warm Winter Tail. It tells how animals adapt to seasonal changes. Animals like red fox, painted turtle, black capped chickadee, black bear, white tailed deer, honeybee, grey squirrel, garter snakes and many more.

Each animal ask the same question, “How do humans stay cool in the summer, Mama?”

The fox would like to know how humans stay cool in the summer, as they hang out their tongues and breathe fast in and out. Mama’s answer was that humans do not pant, puff or huff as they sweat through their skin when it’s hot.

The turtles slide into ponds and under awnings of fronds when it’s hot but humans swim in clear water to keep cool. And while the bears lie bottom up and spread out on cool ground, humans lay in soft beds. Grey squirrels lick their arms as a trick to make heat from their skin disappear, humans thinks it’s a bummer to use their wet tongue to keep cool. LOL! And many more!

There are 4 pages of learning activities where children can learn about the different animals and summer adaptation. Summer and Winter adaptation: Compare and Contrast and more. The illustrations by Christina Wald shows the humans trying to keep cool like the animals. The illustrations are colorful and bold. I highly recommend this book for classroom teaching.

This book explores how many different animals keep cool throughout the summer. The story is written with poetic nuances which makes the book all that much more fun! The question asks: "How do humans stay cool in the summer" by different types of animals. A frog asks "do humans dig in the dirt"? The questions the animals ask are thought provoking that the reader may not have thought of themselves.

For example frog asks ... ... ...

How do humans stay cool in the summer?
do they dig in the dirt
so the sun doesn't hurt
their skin when it shines from above?
No blanket of leaf bits
in a burrow that just fits.
They want the warm sun on their skin.

Of interest to those who wish to delve deeper into understanding animals, the back of the book has educational material such as a matching activity and classification of animals. There is also information on summer and winter adaptations.

I recommend this book for younger readers. My six year old thought it was funny. (rev. B.Barlow, Parent)

When summer heats up, what ways do animals find to stay cool? And how do humans stay cool? In A Cool Summer Tail, a young red fox, painted turtle, black-capped chickadee, black bear, white-tailed deer, honeybee, grey squirrel, black swallowtail butterfly, garter snake, wood frog, and Costa’s hummingbird all ask their mothers how humans stay cool in the summertime. In the process, the reader will learn how each of these creatures stays cool. What do you think a grey squirrel does to make heat disappear from their skin? Would you like to try it?

This sequel to Sylvan Dell’s popular A Warm Winter Tail, also by author Carrie A. Pearson and illustrator Christina Wald, features many of same animals, but this time in the summer. The four-page “For Creative Minds” section in the back includes Summer Adaptation Fun Facts, a Summer and Winter Adaptation Compare and Contrast exercise, and a Summer Animal and Animal Classes matching activity. More free learning materials are available online at the publisher’s website. By the way, how do humans keep cool in the summer? Do they dig under the dirt, grow special summer hair, or only come out at night? How do you stay cool?

A companion book to last year's A Warm Winter Tail, this title allows young readers to learn about how other animals cope with summer's heat. Because the book is told from the point of view of other animals that compare their coping behaviors with what they imagine humans do, it offers a unique, engaging perspective. Readers will enjoy seeing the colorful illustrations of the animals and the simple sketches of the humans. The author is careful to explain how humans behave; for instance, sweating through their skin rather than panting when it is hot. My favorite illustration and discussion shows a human and squirrels separately taking a spit bath.

A COOL SUMMER TAIL is a companion book to A WARM WINTER TAIL. For this new book, a variety of animals are trying to stay cool and wonder if humans use the same techniques as they do. Some of the same animals are used in both books and kids can compare and contrast the different techniques used in the summer versus the winter. Filled with wonderful illustrations and four pages of activities and information, A COOL SUMMER TAIL lets kids learn in a fun, entertaining way.

This is a great book to inform kids of the different ways animals behave compared to us humans. It is informative while also presenting the information in a way that is easy to understand.

This reminds of the currently popular animal books that "vs" each other. Except this has many different animals in it vs humans. A lot of nonfiction in this book, with what seem to be painted illustrations.
