Kerry specialises in crime fiction because she enjoys pushing the boundaries of what it is to be human. The nature versus nurture debate fascinates her. She loves to put her characters in impossible situations just to see what happens. Her experience as a psychiatric nurse heavily influences her writing. She also wants to create characters that people can relate to who might be facing the same struggles as anyone else.
Authors who inspire her are anyone capable of creating a character who lives inside her head long after she has closed the book. Her favourite fictional character's are Dexter Morgan, created by Jeff Lindsay as well as Hannibal Lechter created by Thomas Harris. She doesn't have a favourite genre as a reader. Kerry will read anything. Written by anyone. If the blurb has a good feel about it she's hooked.
When she's not writing she loves to spend time following her other passions - dogs, particularly rescue mutts and horse racing. The sight of a thoroughbred race horse at full stretch has been known to move her to tears, not just lump in the throat stuff but full on blubbing. And for that she is unashamed. One day she's going to buy a racehorse filly and call her Into Darkness.
She also had a small role in a film called The Rocket Post but decided acting wasn't for her. She would rather create a character than play one.

I really enjoyed this book and liked the main character DI Grant Noble.
He gets a call from his colleague while he’s off work following his wife’s death, and doesn’t hesitate to help out as the killer is leaving bodies in churches, which have been brutally murdered.
We get to know the identity of the killer early on and Ross is sure in his own mind that by killing these people, he’s doing the world a favour as they are preying on women and children.
DI Grant is contacted by Ross and starts to understand why he’s doing this but he still needs to do everything he can to bring him in.
As the story progresses more things come to light about what Ross has discovered and DI Grant has to make sure justice is served.
This was a real page turner and I really liked the way the story enveloped all the characters in the book.

Once I started this book I couldn't leave it. A gripping thrilling read with a very emotional aspect thrown into the mix. Great character in DI Grant Noble and really hope to meet him again! A terrific plot. This is my kind of read where many emotions are involved and even after the book is finished you can't stop thinking about it!

This really is an amazing book that I just couldn’t put down! I went through so many different emotions reading this book, it really was a rollercoaster ride. Very difficult subjects to tackle but written about well.

I think this was a really exceptional story, worthy of 5 stars. The characters were sympathetic, the suspense was gripping, I was hooked throughout. The only problem was, and I really hate to even mention it, the punctuation. In a lot of places, I had to go back and re-read passages to figure out what the author was trying to say. Oh, it was worth the effort. At no point did those flaws make me want to set the book aside. After a while, my brain started putting the punctuation in for me, so I had fewer stumbles. But if you're a stickler, you're going to want to skip this book. And that would be a shame because you'd miss out on a great story.

This is the first book I have read by this author, and I loved it. I will definitely be looking out for more.
DI Grant Noble is called back in to work from compassionate leave following the death of his wife, to look into a very gruesome murder. The victim is a convicted paedophile, recently released from prison, and when Noble and team realise this is the third similar murder in recent weeks, they know they are dealing with a serial killer.
We know who the perpetrator is from the outset - Ross Blake, a young man who was abused by his own father and pretty much ignored by his junkie mother. Blake is a well written character, and we see the love that he has for his dog and his grandmother. It's very hard not to feel sympathy for Ross - he is clearly damaged, and his victims are evil men.
Grant Noble is another great character. He is very recently widowed, struggling with his OCD and anxiety attacks. Some of his actions out strain on his relationship with his daughter Katie, who is trying to process her own grief.
There is a lot going on in this book. The action moves along at a cracking pace and the body count increases. The murder scenes are described graphically and are not for the faint hearted! There are also several subplots going on - one involving Grant, one Katie and one with Scott, her boyfriend. These helped add interest and the complete package easily kept my attention. Would recommend.

This book was great, once I started it I couldn't put it down.
It was a constant need know what happens.
DI noble was my favourite. He was of work because of his wife's
Passing, when he gets called back to work that's when everything
Started.
It's the first book of Kerry Watts I've read and I will be reading more.

As with the author's previous detective novels, the reader is introduced to the murderer early on in the book, therefore you find yourself asking why, instead of who. It's a formula that works well & as the story progresses there are plenty of twists & turns to keep you gripped. Watts is a talented writer & her fluid prose ensures an interesting ride. Looking forward to the next one.

The central plot was good, and the main characters well developed. However, the side plots tended to be rather anticlimactic, and generally the grammar in this book was appalling. I frequently found myself having to read sentences several times to work out which character was speaking and what they were trying to say! This really let this book down, since the story line was promising.

October 6, 2020There’s always something intriguing about a vigilante, driven to take action where the legal system fails to deliver justice. Is he doing society a favour or is he no better than the criminals he despatches?
In this story, the author spends a lot of time with Ross Blake, offering a sympathetic portrayal of a troubled young man, determined to fight back against injustice, which he also suffered. This leads to a cat and mouse battle with the police in the shape of DI Noble, already grieving the recent death of his wife.
While I enjoyed the story, which was easy to follow, it felt rushed, skimming over details that could have created fuller characters and rooted the story in place and time. I’m not sure where the story takes place and don’t recall the setting being mentioned. DI Noble felt superficial at times and never seemed convincing enough to take control of an investigation where police procedure was disregarded on a number of occasions. While this may not be an issue for many readers, I believe it erodes the credibility of a story.
The story continued after the natural climax of the cat and mouse battle between Noble and Blake, revealing the author’s determination to go beyond the traditional police procedural. I applaud the author’s efforts to look into the mind and life of a vigilante, but I wish she’d spent more time developing the other aspects of the story.

"The Reckoning" by Kerry Watts is a suspenseful psychological thriller of a cat and mouse game. Ross Blake has taken vengeance to a whole new meaning. The body count rises as he inacts punishment and death on the would be abusers. Grant Noble Detective Inspector, has been called in just two days after his wife, Jo's, burial. Will the cat beable to catch the mouse before more bodies pile up? And what does Grant find in the process that hits to close to his own family? Kerry Watts does an excellent job writing this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat to see if the mouse would be caught. Well done Kerry Watts!
