Captured Miracle

Rate this book
Sometimes the darkest of hearts are the most blinding. Not because of their light, but because of their suffocating endlessness. The dark abyss of their possession claims you before you’re even aware of the capture.

Love is not linear. There is no timeline in which the emotion blooms. Sometimes it is a slow succession of events where one soul learns another and sometimes it’s quick. Sometimes it’s like lightning. Possessive.

That’s what Calix was to me. He infused himself within my life – my mind – my body – and my heart. Until he possessed my soul. And then he shattered it all.

The worst part of it all was that he owned me. Completely. And it only took him four days.

What started out as an act of revenge quickly becomes so much more. After years of plotting and two years of watching Nova, Calix takes her. In the dead of the night, three strange men in her room, tugging her from her bed, wake Nova. Terrified of forcing the men to act on their threats to harm her mother and sisters, Nova agrees to allow them to cart her from the safety of her home.

She never expected they would lead her to Calix. A dark and captivating man determined to have her as his wife – and every other way. As Nova tries to keep Calix from pushing his way past her barriers, his determination to capture her heart in the same way he captured her body grows. In his quest for her heart, Calix pushes her past her barriers and tests her every limit.

When her heart softens, the reason for the game of revenge turns very real and Calix is forced to tell Nova just why he took her. Only, the truth will harden the heart that had softened against him.

But Calix still won’t let Nova go.

Until the end of time, she is his.

*** This is an erotic romance. Captured Miracle is the first novel in what will be a three book series. This novel does end in a cliffhanger.

Born and raised in Alberta, Canada, Alannah Carbonneau is only a short drive away from the Rocky Mountains that have a staring place in so many of her novels. With seventeen novels and counting currently available on Amazon, Alannah is not only a full-time author, but a full-time mom of two beautiful boys, and wife to an amazing man who always has her back. She lives in a rambling ranch house that needs way too many renos and has one too many cats, but she is happy and in love.

With a solid circle of friends and family, and a very manly, supportive husband who does his best to make sure his family is taken care of, Alannah’s novels feature manly men (sometimes they can be a LOT manly) and friend/family relationships weaved into the stories, because life is about a whole mess of people, and although this is fiction, the best fiction is sprinkled with sweet (and sometimes not so sweet) bits of reality.

Because she loves romance, Alannah writes Contemporary and New Adult Romance. Soon to be released is the Creekwood Valley Series that has ties to the reader beloved Donnelley Brother Series, where light suspense and romance weave to create titillating stories that not only steal your heart but keep you on the edge of your seat. She is the author of the highly rated Teach Me Series, an emotional read about love, life and lessons learned. Our Dark Design is a standalone erotic romance peppered with enough suspense to keep you turning the pages, and The Choice is an entirely unconventional standalone romance about three.

She is currently working on a Cross World Fantasy Romance Series for Adults she can’t wait to share with you, because this will feature hot men who are a little bit dominant and a lot protective who are head over heels in love with stubborn, magnificent women.

When Alannah isn’t writing or spending time with her three men, she can be found in her garden, or with a paint brush in hand. But no matter where she is or what she’s doing, you can bet that she’s thinking of a love story she can share with you.

Just what possessed me to attempt this book, I have no idea. I needed a break from my current book and picked this on impulse. This book was completely creepy. Rather than getting chills of excitement, I got hot sick in my mouth. I didn't see anything exciting about a "hero" forcing a woman to marry him under threat of having her family murdered. All based on some mysterious revenge plot? He stalks her for two years with the intent to study her so that he can abduct her. Then he tells her, and naturally she feels horrified and violated. His response was just ludicrous.

I watched as his eyes closed slowly before he replied. "I never wanted to make you feel that way and I'm sorry that I have. But I can't change it."

So let me get this straight, he follows her around for years, takes her from her home and family and threatens to kill them unless she obeys him, and he feels upset that he violated her? This is some kind of revelation that he's hurting her? I just can't even...

It's clear he has some sick infatuation with her after watching her for so long and he wants her to obey his every whim. Namely letting him touch her casually or intimately, have a "getting to know you" conversation as if they were new BFFs, and acting like she doesn't despise the very air that he breathes. After just a few hours after the kidnapping he's getting angry at her for not immediately complying. It was bizarre, annoying, and repetitive.

It goes a little something like this. On every page.

"Come over here."
"I don't want to. I'm not doing it."
*gets angry* "Come here and act like you like it, or I'll kill your family"
*walks over*

Now repeat 10,624 times and that's the first half of the book.

And don't even get me started with his grandma. She was like the Grandma version of a Stepford wife. She knew about his kidnapping plot, and yet she's acting like this is a completely normal situation. She's completely fine with it and keeps urging her to relax and be comfortable. Cheerfully asking her if she wants to learn how to garden with her, asking if she's "settled in her room", inviting her to call her grandma?...
Has her brain been abducted by aliens? Every time she spoke, it was like she became even more insane.

"Are you all right, dear?" Gabriella asked sincerely.
Calix chuckled. "I'm just touching her Grandma."
She raised a brow, "Touching her?"
"Her thigh, she needs to get used to contact with me if she's going to be my wife."
"Calix, I know you're an impatient man-but you need to take into consideration that this is very new to Nova." Gabriella scolded.

I'm just going to leave that right there. No explanation needed. This book was like reading about someone's acid trip or something. Bizarre doesn't even begin to cover it.

Let me clarify, I know you're thinking this is some type of gritty, dark book or a horror story. It's not. Just how this is supposed to be a romance leaves me thoroughly confused. It's not dark, it's not forbidden taboo thrilling. Maybe if you have some secret abduction/love slave fantasies, this book would be for you, as for me, I'm off now to find a way to erase this from my memory.

LMAO. Reading this story made me feel as if I got stuck in an unrelenting Groundhog Day.

The whole book is filled with the same juvenile dialogue between the captor and his captive playing on repeat. 😂 He wants her to act the way he needs, she denies to comply, he tries to force her and this is happening over and over again until I'm sick and tired🤒 and my head is aching.

The hero is an A grade stalker and the notion of personal space doesn't exist in his vocabulary.

The writing style is very amateur.

Finally, a book that got me out of my weeks long reading slump. The H is an OTT possessive, protective, obsessive, and jealous CAVEMAN. He has been stalking the h for 2 years and in the first chapter kidnaps her. He takes her bc he wants her so badly. He tells her as soon as he kidnaps her that she is going to marry him. Now, I was weary of an abduction story bc I was worried there would be abuse, whips, chains, and dungeons. But this story featured none of those things. The H told the h that he will never abuse or force her and he doesn't. He is actually pretty great. I also liked how the h behaved. It was absolutely realistic and there was no quick turnaround where she decides to give in. I can't wait to continue this series.

Oh Calix, Calix, Calix. Im sitting here, i'm not sure how to write this review, I am giving it 4*. I have my reasons, sit back and get ready for this....

Alannah Carbonneau has completely thrown me off with this book, I have just read a series before this book, and gelt saddness, loss and love.... This book is alot darker, and I can honestly say I did not know you had it in you girl!!! t god, it could be given 5* easily, but I know the best is yet to come, and I will not have anywhere to go with giving her more stars. The beginning had me gripped, but the lead on was not expected. Calix is a force of nature, I loved him, I wanted to slap him, I craved him, I wanted Nova to run a mile from him...

But Alannah's writing held not only Nova captive but me too. I needed and wanted to turn over the pages quicker and quicker, which is why I read this book in a day! I had a gut feeling the story behind Calix had more depth, that it could not be all selfish on his behalf, and I read, and Read. I screamed and I shouted.

Nova is being held captive by Calix, but Calix needs Nova like the next breath he needs, Nova wants home, but suddenly Calix is her home.

The 'scenes' throughout this book were beautifully written, the dimension between both characters became 3d effect through the pages, book 2 is about to start tonight for me!!!!

This is my review of all three book of this series which I got as a gift from my lovely friend who knew I liked Consequence by Aleatha Romig and thought I might like this one too. This is because the book does involve kidnapping for a revenge plot with no BDSM. I gave it a try (all! three! books!), and my conclusion is.......

This series isn't for me.

So a little back story (/rant): generally, people wouldn't quite describe me as a romantic person, my ex especially viewed me as a person with the insensitivity of megalomaniac factory owner. Although I myself along with my bookshelf do disagree with this notion. Despise being a self proclaim lovers of romance, the reason of this misunderstanding often occur is because of the fact that I dislike any form of self humiliation and I simply despise stupidity .

Through out the series, reading Nova's thought was very disturbing (as in stupid and brainless). Unlike Consequence, this book did not have a convincing plot nor a believable 'romance'. The h was given the mentality of a seven year-old in place of a twenty-something-women, and the behavior of a mindless dog - happy with any attention, even if it is a kick to the side. In fact, she did constantly compare herself to an animal, saying things like how her captor/lover is her master who trains her to do simple task such as when to stand and take a step, how to walk and sit. These are real examples from the book, I kid you not. Her thoughts are simply too painful to read. And the one I quoted below is worth mentioning because of how many brain cells of mine died over reading this:

"I found myself feeling almost lost when ever Calix wasn't near...the thought of him going away to work and leaving me here was a frightening one I was having a difficulty coping with"

She thought she would die if he didn't touch her. On the third book she admit that only Calix mattered to her and that she would HAVE TO be with him instead of her very very loving family who suffered so much when she was captured.

Now you may tell me that she has Stockholm syndrome. But this simply isn't it. This girl really is that empty. She have absolutely no concept of self-value. NONE. And I meant that.

Want me to tell you how she fell in love? First, she got kidnapped ('omg my prince charming came and took me on his horse/limousine'). Second, Calix kissed her then slept in the same bed as her. Third, he then went away on business for three days right after that night. By day four days of him going MIA, she was already in love with him. For no reason.

That's basically the first chuck of the first book, then the rest of the book is about her being mad at him for being away for four days, and how he didn't let her see her family (hello you're still in captivity, gurl why u so dumb) and repeatedly threaten them (the last two are pretty reasonable so okay...)

At this point, I once again contemplate my stand on the whole "princess-love-story" for children. I grew up with Disney films, but I never wished for my own prince or spend my youth fantasizing about my wedding day. But despite how I grew up alright (I like to believe I'm quite sensible), seeing all these girls being heart broken and disillusioned with the notion that her first love (crush/interest) will be it (/the one and only) for her...and that love will be enough to change a person and make her princess fantasy come true...well.....that isn't very nice.

Calix is Nova's prince charming. To me, he doesn't seem realistic in the least bit. This guy is mental, he has the police in his pockets, got one of them middle age men to seduce her TEENAGE sister, and another creep to get close to her mom, AND THREATEN TO KILL HER YOUNGEST SISTER... Oh did I mention that he wanted to kill her absent dad, and that was the whole reason he took her?

Yeah. The reason he stalked her for two years is because he planned to love her and marry her so her ABSENT dad would come to the wedding and he would get to kill him then. That doesn't make any sense does it. Why would an absent dad who never had been there for his family suddenly show up for his daughter's wedding? Also he's not only a billionaire (who almost never work???? Well what do I know, I'm not in acquaintance with any), he's also a killer. Stuff of dreams right ladies?

Anyway, her falling stupidly in love to the point of admitting that she would rather die that not be near her lover/capture and constantly degrade herself isn't very dignify and I simply can not relate myself to that.

Give it a try, maybe you would appreciate the romance (pff, seriously?) that did more harm than good than me.

Loved this book! It was recently recommended to me and wow, I stayed up all night reading the first and second book in the series. I can't wait to read the third book to find out what happens with Nova and Calix. Being Canadian and having lived in the Alberta foothills it was particularly refreshing to read scenery from my home country. I enjoyed how this author built the characters, romance and suspense without ever losing that edge of danger to Calix's character. I also liked how real Nova's reactions to her kidnapping felt. She cried quite a bit, but she also reacted in anger. Very real responses to a stressful situation. I will be reading more by this author!

I seldom read this kind of novel that H kidnapped h , and then forced her to love him, so it was refreshing for me to read it.

The reading experience was exciting but confusing…I wanted to know what's going to happen to them next, but couldn't help but wondering how could h fall in love with H in four days? Was that normal or healthy?

I will definitely want to read the next book cause I'm dying to know why did H have to kidnap h? And why insisted on marrying her? Surely there were other ways for revenge?

That moment when you hear about an author you love writing a different genre a darker genre, you think 'wow this can go one of two ways.' 'it can Crash and burn or totally take your breath away. '
Well in this case Alannah is definitely is the latter.

I love how versatile alannah is.

Calix is a much different character from her Donnelley brothers.
You will be pleasantly suprised at the story that unfold between these pages.

Calix is a complex, aggressive, possessive, strong yet beautiful character.
Theres nothing that will stop him from getting what he wants when he wants it.

He spent 2 years stalking Nova carefully planning her abduction.

When the time comes to execute his plan, he send his men in to retrieve her from her bed.
Once she is in his possession he tells her she will have to get used to being with him, she will never be leaving his grasp.
He uses her families safety to manipulate her into obeying him.

He then drops the bombshell that she WILL BE HIS WIFE IN 2 WEEKS TIME.

Crazy you say....... well yes, but theres totally method in his madness and it all unfolds in every page in this book.

Nova had dreams, she wanted the prince charming, the ones she read about in her books...... what she gets is total opposite, this is no modern fairytale.

Calix is ready to push her to her limits, and beyond.
With calix you cant help but submit to him, even though you know you shouldn't, he's very persuasive.

Nova starts feeling things for Calix, theres a million reasons why she shouldn't have these feelings for her captive, but her body and heart is telling her one thing and then her heads telling her another, its an internal battle.

I love how each character developes throughout the book.

I never imagined in my wildest dreams I would fall for a bad guy in a book but I did.

The secrets Calix is holding made me understand why he is doing what hes doing, although he probably could have done it differenly but still I empathise with him.

I am so glad I never had to wait for the second book, I think I would have died with the cliff hanger it was left with.

Honestly I know this book is darker and alot different to the Donnelley brothers series, don't let that put you off I think you'll be pleasantly suprised at how much you'll love this series. I know Calix has made his way into my heart and on my list of BBFF.

Alannah you did a fantastic job, I cant wait to read more in this series.

Reviewed by Sharon Thérèse Nuttall on behalf of Kindle Friends Forever.

If you’re familiar with this author’s style of writing and haven’t read the first book in the Captured Miracle Novel #1, you’re going to be in for one hell of surprise. At least I was! I went in completely ignorant to the fact that it’s a dark read. However, I’m not in any hurry to slip it into this genre because rhetorically speaking, it is just too tame for this category. One thing is for sure though, love story it is not.

Quote: "This is my life." I whispered.
"It was your life, love." He grinned, but there was no kindness in the action. "You belong to me now."

Taking into consideration that ninety-nine percent of the dialogue is between the two main characters, and that the whole story revolves around them, made me wonder how on earth the author had managed to keep me stuck to the pages like a limpet. Of course, the reason is quite simple. A good storyline which wasn't overly dark for my tastes and well written banter. I was a little concerned about the heroine’s persona. Nova is studious, a tad timid, and extremely virtuous. In the safety of her home, the unimaginable happens. She tries to put up a fight but is quickly reprimanded and told by her captor that she’ll put her family in danger if she doesn't comply. Once they were theoretically out of the firing line, she gives it all she’s got regardless of the consequences. “Go for it gal, go for it!” I said to myself. I really liked her feistiness here and I never thought she’d back down so quickly. Thus, when she did, I was a fairly disappointed in her. Nevertheless, since she was forced into an uncertain existence against her will, I tried my best to put myself in her shoes. And believe you me, how could she not succumb to her abductor?

Quote: "Do your worst. Punish me. Hurt me. F**k me." More silent tears streamed down my face. "Break me. I. Don't. Care."

Calix! My, oh my! How I wish you’d been more of a badass because it would most certainly have suited you. You could have been bossier and you never really showed me your cruel streak which you kept threatening Nova with. In fact, I think you’re a real pushover and Nova’s undeveloped submissiveness clouded her judgement. You had me thinking right up until the last moment what motivated you to do such a thing to this beautiful young girl, but once I learnt, I understood.

Quote: "What do you want with me, Calix?" I whispered shakily, burying my face deeper into his chest. "Why did you take me?"

It is easy to envisage this attractive man; especially with his clothes off! Yes, he does take them off but we have to be patient as it takes a while for Nova to cave in. Laughing out loud folks because it actually took four days, just four days of their time together for their passion to steam up my glass lenses. And the ending, wow! It left me hanging high up on a precipice wishing I had the follow-up at hand. If there was one or two teeny-weeny issues which bothered me in this read, it would have to be the repetitiveness in places and not having Calix's point of view. Fortunately, the story with it's fair share of intrigue, outweighs this setback. So Ms. Carbonneau, bravo to you for your not such a dark read!

Fav quote: "I'm seducing your body because I'm not worthy of your heart ~ but worthy or not ~ if you give me the chance, I'll steal it."

This was a struggle to read and I'm still not finished with it and don't plan to finish it. After seven chapters I just couldn't anymore. This is pretty much the same as the Twist Me series. The only difference is that Nova is more vocal than Nora and isn't so clueless about sex, not that I got to a sex scene in the book before dropping it. But she did try to play Calix saying she was knocked up so it's clear she knows about the birds and the bees.

Honestly I am sick of this type of abduction story. The rich guy takes the poor, sheltered girl from her home, threatens to harm her family if she doesn't behave and tells her a million and one times not to test his patience or else and doesn't hit her.

Like another review said, the first three to four chapters takes place in the limo with them both saying the same thing over and over again: "Let me go." "No, you need to behave. Don't test me." "Why are you doing this?" "Just do as you're told. I'm not patient." "Please let me go!" "I'll hurt your family if you don't shut up."

It's ridiculous and even after they get to the house the same thing happens. Apparently the plot twist from what Calix says is that it has to happen, it has to be her. So it sounds like he is working for someone or has orders to marry her or something? I don't know but a review said that it isn't revealed until the end. That's too long for me and if that is true then until you get to the end you are going to be reading the same dialogue a few times per chapter.

Honestly though this whole book is predictable if you have read the Twist me Series. If not then go read the other summaries of the two books in this series. I'll give you a hint on how it's going to go. Right off the back and a few times in chapters, Nova notes on how beautiful Calix is with his blue eyes and features.

I'm sick of stories like this. Just once I would like to read a strong heroine who can't be blackmailed with the harm of her family because she doesn't care. The abductor to actually follow through with his threat and harm her because he really isn't patient. For the heroine not to comment or take note about how beautiful and handsome her captor is. Come on now! Branch out more why don't you?

I love this story it had me absorbed in it's world from the very start!

The author states at the very beginning that this is the first book of a series therefore I knew there would be no forgone conclusion to the ending in this one book but I didn't expect the total surprise that unfolded at the end. It compelled me and left me wanting much more so I can't wait for the next book in this series. I feel like my thirst has not been at all quenched yet and I have a need for this story and where it will develop.

Having read this authors work before and enjoying it I am finding with every new release I read from her I'm floored and left stunned after finishing her book. She really is a captivating author from start to finish of a story.

This book dragged me into it's world right from page one. The author delved straight into the depths of the dark story line so there's no build up to the event which I appreciated immensely - there have been many books with stories that dance around the subject far too much before getting to the point. I loved this for grabbing me and gripping me from the get go.
The characters are well developed and brilliantly thought out. The author creates so much mystery to the character Calix that you question him. Question his motivation for his actions, his personality, his plans and his emotional state.
As for the female lead Nova, she is written with such beautiful emotional depth you can relate to her state of mind having just endured such horrific circumstances.

I can't wait to continue this story and see where it leads next .......book two will be definitely one clicked as soon as it's available.

A captivating and panty-wetting Dark Erotica Romance!

I've read the author's prior works, and when I found out not only is the author a talented writer, but an amazing genre-hopper as well.

Let me explain. My first six reads by the author were Contemporary Romance novels, so I'll be the first to admit I was a bit hesitant to read the author's take on Dark Erotic Romance... This book stayed on my shelf for several weeks and I'm majorly disappointed that I waited so long.

Oh my freaking goodness. I will purposefully omit details regarding the story so I will center on the writing. Not only is the author a fantastic writer, she is an accomplished storyteller. I was mesmerized on page two and couldn't stop. I read this book in one sitting, swiping my index finger against the screen of my iPad a little too fast.

My heart raced and I felt for our heroine Nova. Twenty-one, pure, and innocent - part of a war unknown to her. Calix, brooding, selfish, arrogant and *gasp* caring. The - erm - tension I felt was a slow build that had me squirming and sighing.

Is there any genre Ms. Carbonneau can't write?! Five Stars. Brava.

I was gifted this for an honest review. I love darker reads so was really looking forward to reading this. I wasn't disappointed either, this is a brilliant book. It had me sucked in from the very beginning!
Nova has been kidnapped from her home and forced to live with Calix but does not know why and he is not very forthcoming with the information!
Calix at first is not a nice man, very strong in what he wants, has taken Nova against her will and is very domineering. Despite this though he never physically hurts her and is highly protective of her in fact.
Towards the end we see that it is not entirely all Calix's choosing to do what he has done and it is for a revenge purpose. I'm not ginna spoil it but suffice to say you will WANT to read book 2 straight after due to the way it ends, which is definitely what I will be doing!!
Loved this and would highly recommend, especially to those who love the darker reads.

This book started off really well. The reader is thrown right into a hopeless situation, forcing us to empathize with the heroine. Nova was taken from everyone she loved and was forced to live with a stranger (Calix) who planned to marry her in a few short weeks. Calix knows everything about Nova. In fact, he'd been watching her for years. She was part of his plan for revenge against Nova's father. Nova was very innocent and naive. Calix was calculating and controlling. Nova became so entrenched in his life, she relied on him for everything...her sanity, protection, friendship and love. There were a lot of unanswered questions, but I didn't feel cheated out of a story. Those questions left just enough mystery to the story. I enjoyed their developing relationship and how Nova slowly began to depend on Calix and how Calix's plan soon faltered after meeting her. Nova's love for Calix felt a little rushed, but overall I enjoyed the story.

Nova is taken from her home. Her captor gives her an ultimatum; do what he says or her family will pay. Not knowing exactly what to do, she agrees to do whatever he wants. But, she does it with sass. She talks back constantly, puts up a fight and doesn't want to be bothered. Him touching her isn't her only issue. His blue eyes are making her fall in love with him even when she doesn't want to.

This is the start to another outstanding series by Alannah! I'm not into dark erotica books, but like all her other book, I was drawn in right away!! I must know what happens next! Onto the next book I go!!

5 out of 5 stars!

Captured Miracle (book 1)
Alannah Carbonneau

The story was WOW in a great way. A dark romantic suspense which evoked many conflicting emotions. From the blurb I was determined to dislike Callix however, reading on through the book in a strange way I felt drawn to him, he has many flaws but I think that there is far more to him and the writer has only scratched the surface in book 1.
From the first sentence (yes the first sentence) I was captivated by this book, I consumed it in a matter of hours it was that good. I would rate this book a fabulous 5 stars. Alannah has set the bar high for book 2 of this series, and I cannot wait to read it.

This book sucked.

The only reason why I even finished it was because I promised myself to always finish what I start. A vow this book seriously had me second guessing.
Now I love me an alpha male, especially the crazy possessive ones, but what I can't stand is a weak heroine. And this girl was weak as hell! I was so fucking frustrated with this main character that I cursed out loud in public. Had kids and mommas looking at me sideways.
Best believe that this is the first and last book I'll be reading from this series.

I am not sure entirely how I feel yet. I have a love hate relationship with this story. I hope book 2 picks up where we left off.
Nova 'Love' & Calix have me intrigued. Where this is going has me hanging on my chair. But i feel it's a bit wordy and repetitive, but at the same time not telling me enough about the story. I got their feelings down pat though.

WHAT THE HECK!
That ending...! Like... whaaaaaaa.....😵

Alannah Carbonneau leaves you on a huge cliffhanger begging for more. (See what I did there? No, oh well) in Captured Miracle Calix, a man who is obsessed with Nova kidnaps her for some reason (not saying due to spoilers). During this time Nova is trying to figure out why and what Calix wants with her other then owning her completely. (Body, heart, & soul)

After the cliffhanger Alannah Carbonneau leaves you on you will be dying for the next book! So with that being said... let’s go dive into the next book!

*This is a Window Seat Blog review http://readinginthewindowseat.blogspo... *

Honestly, the insta-love was a bit much, and it started to really ruin it for me there towards the late middle/end, HOWEVER, for some reason I still really liked the story. It was a quick read, and while there were a ton of grammatical errors (such as commas instead of periods) it didn't detract from the story as much as one would think. I found I could easily enough look past them.

Nova was a bit whiney, and then annoying. Given her circumstances, the crying I totally understood, but she was guilty over ridiculous things, like being snappy with the grandmother of her kidnapper. Hello? The woman knows you were kidnapped, and she's doing nothing. You deserve to be a little rude at the very least. She was also a bit too naïve. If she really reads as many romance novels as she claims, then she'd be able to figure out half of Calix's "vague" (not really) suggestions. Instead, she almost never gets it. It's pretty frustration, and it makes it hard to relate to her, or feel sorry for her. Not to mention, four days is just way to fast for her to fall in love and brush under the rug what he's done. I would have preferred a time jump to that at least, where we're told in the next chapter a week has passed or whatever. Anything would have been better. I don't care how hot he is, he kidnapped her, threatened to KILL her family, and has forced her into doing things that embarrass the crap out of her. Even with Stockholm syndrome being taken into consideration, that's way too quick.

Still, three stars, because like I said, I kept reading anyway, and there was never a moment, even as frustrated and eye roll worthy as Nova became, where I wanted to put the book down and walk away. As a quick read that's honest about what it is in the blurb, I'd say worth it to anyone wanting to check it out.

My thoughts:
This series was amazing! Calix and Nova had such perfect chemistry together, I loved both characters.

Also, I loved Ms. Carbonneau's voice; she says she pours a lot of herself into the characters of her books and they seem so down to earth and real to me. The realistic details and heartfelt emotions conveyed throughout the story really increased my enjoyment of this series. Superbly done, Ms. Carbonneau!

Calix sent men in the house of a single mother and kidnapped the oldest daughter because he wanted to marry her. He stalked her for two years prior to the kidnapping. Why Nova? I swear she is the most innocent twenty-one year old I've ever read about. Why would a dominant alpha man like Calix want this innocent young woman? They don't have anything in common......well except for one small itsy bitsy thing. This one little thing resulted in the kidnapping, resulted in Nova being an instrument for revenge, and the threat of Calix demanding she marry him. Calix had two years to plan and prepare for every scenario...except him falling for Nova. Yep ole Calix is whipped like whipped cream on hot chocolate! Yep Nova has Calix acting like a psychotic nut in this first installment. Once Calix reveals the big secret, will Calix and Nova marry? Will he allow Nova to contact her mom and sisters to ensure them she is ok?

This story ends on a dramatic cliffhanger and praise the publisher gods part two and three are available for consumption. Yes consumption! I know the drama is about to go from zero to one hundred in the next installment and I have a front row seat!!

If you like the kidnapping concept, a hot sexy dominant male who does what he want whenever he wants and darn the consequences, then yeah this bad boy is definitely for you!

It was an okay read but it just didn't grab my attention, I loved the cover of this book and the story had so much potential, but I felt like it dragged on. I mean, there really isn't any other way to explain it. The first 3 chapters were spent in a limo, Nova trying to find answers as to why Calix kidnapped her. The rest of the Chapters dragged on about her confusion to her feelings for Calix. Then finally I get an answer at the very last page and that's it. I don't mind cliffhangers in books but this one didn't do it for me. I was left thinking, "That it?"

There was a few interesting parts but after that, it fell short again and I found myself bored and skipping pages. The author seemed to struggled with portraying Calix, it didn't keep my attention.

Now just because it wasn't my cup of tea doesn't mean it's not yours, everyone has different opinions and this was just mine.
