recipe included
When Carlita Garlucci’s annoying tenant Elvira Cobb turns up missing, Carlita and her daughter spring into action and begin looking for clues to her whereabouts.
They soon discover a mysterious message on Elvira’s answering machine. The message is from a man with possible NY mob ties. They fear that Elvira has put all of their lives in jeopardy after the mysterious man is found floating facedown in the Savannah River.
Carlita’s fear turns to bone-chilling horror when she realizes the man’s killer isn’t after Elvira.... He’s after her!
Armed with more clues and help from a friend, Carlita and Mercedes head out to nearby Tybee Island to continue their search at a historic fort with a rumored pirates past.
Will the Garlucci women find their missing tenant before the killer strikes again? Or will their “former family” and secret past finally be the death of all of them?
In this book Elvira the old cranky and demanding tenant in Calotta inn goes missing. At first so many people are just glad to be rid of her. Elvira is out using her detective skills to investigate burglaries in town. Without Mercedes and Carlitas help Elvira would have died. Was there a crooked cop involved. Read this to the last page.
Missing in Savannah is the sixth book in Hope Callaghan’s Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery Series and it is a fun, easy, and clean read. Ms. Callaghan provides vivid descriptions of the Savannah area and treats the reader to many historical facts about the area. The affable characters are well developed and delightful; the storyline is well plotted with an intriguing mystery and lots of action and suspects. I love Ms. Callaghan’s writing style and once again, she has succeeded in writing a wonderfully crafted whodunit, mixed with family, friendship, compassion, and intrigue. Missing in Savannah grabbed my attention on the first page, held my interest throughout the entire story, and quickly became a page-turner that kept me guessing until the final reveal. I highly recommend this book to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozies.
Carlita Garlucci has adjusted well to her new life in Savanna. Carlita’s daughter, Mercedes, has recently published her first e-book (“Murder, Mayhem and the Mafia, a Mob Daughter’s Confessions”), is experiencing writer’s block on the sequel, joined an author’s group, and is making friends. Her oldest son, Vinnie, Jr., is living in New York and says he’s doing okay. Her middle son, Tony, is running the family business, Savannah Swag, and building a relationship with one of Carlita’s tenants, Shelby and her young daughter Violet. Her youngest son, Paulie, is the mayor of Clifton Falls, New York and thinking about opening an internet café with one of his father’s ‘family’ business acquaintances. Paulie is having marital problems with his wife, Gina, because she is against the new business venture so they’re ‘taking a break’ and he’s visiting Carlita. Paulie is enjoying his time in Savannah and convinces Gina to bring their three children down for a visit. Cool Bones, one of Carlita’s tenants, asks her if she’s seen or heard from Elvira Cobb, her annoying and troublesome tenant, recently. Carlita becomes concerned when she discovers no one has seen or heard from her in several days and her apartment appears to have been ransacked or she left in a hurry. It turns out that EC Investigative Services, Elvira’s business, has a new client, Lou Franco, and Elvira is trying to find some missing gems and hiding out at Fort Pulaski, believing she’s hot on the trail of a smugglers ring and close to finding the gems. A body is discovered floating in the Savannah River and is identified as Lou Franco, from Queens, New York. Carlita is worried the gems are the ones they found in a crate in their basement and that the mob may be on to them.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
If the main character is going to let Elvira walk all over her like that, she deserves to get screwed. NO ONE would put up with that much shit from a tenant, and she looks like a moron for doing so. Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me. I really tried to like the story. I kept reading hoping (REALLY hoping) the main character was going to (metaphorically) grow some balls, considering where she came from, and who she (supposedly) is, but alas, no. She gets walked on to the last page. Shame on me if I read another one.
Grab a chair, curl up and get ready for another visit to Savannah. I love books about Savannah, Tybee Island, and cozy mysteries. This book fulfills all my loves. Carla and Mercedes set out again, together with friends and family to solve the mystery of the gems. You are always guaranteed to encounter the several unusual characters that live in the Savannah Historic District. Many thanks for another entertaining read and I look forward to the next.
Where is Elvira? Is s he missing, dead or in trouble? Carlita and Mercedes start looking into the disappearance of Elvira. Along the way they find that Mafia ties might be the cause of Elvira's disappearance. Will Carlita ever be able t o keep her family safe? Will Mercedes find the love of her life? You have to read this book to find out. Already have my order in f or the next book.
I haven't reviewed the two previous books that I got with this one as a package deal. I somehow didn't notice that they are not the first in the series. Although it would have been better to have read the first three before these, I had no trouble knowing what is going on. This series is a really pleasant cozy series. The characters are interesting and likeable and I quite enjoyed all three of the books.
I love most of the main characters. However, I truly wish the author would get rid of the character, Elvira. I have never had as strong of a feeling of dislike for a character EVER before. She nearly ruins the series for me! The way she asserts herself makes the character Carlita look weak. I fully expected Carlita to get rid of her early on. When she didn't, I was surprised.
Carlita's son Paulie visits while 'connected' men are in town looking for the gems. Elvira is comic relief in her rabid search for the same gems, unaware her client went swimming with the fishies, while bound up tight. A few twist and turns will keep you reading and waiting for the next installment
More than just a cozy mystery. Hope Callaghan weaves suspense and historical facts to solve the mystery of missing Elvira, Carlita's least favorite tenant. Well developed and intriguing characters, suspenseful plot, and historical Savanah setting are the reasons why Book 6 in the Made in Savannah was a delightful and intriguing read. Each book in the series be read as a stand alone.
Carlita Garlucci and her daughter Mercedes moved to Savannah after finding a deed to property there. Wanting to get her family away from the NY Mob started a pawn shop and fixed the house up into apartments. Elvira, one of her tenants started an investigating business and this time got into a lot of trouble trying to find missing gems. A lot of excitement follows with an unexpected end!
I am still loving this series. In this book one of Carlita's tenants, Elvira, is missing. No one has seen or heard from her for several days. They find that Elvira has been hired to investigate for a man from New York. The next thing, a body is found floating in the river. Trouble always seems to be in the vicinity of Carlita's family.
Introducing new characters and discovering answers to the questions she's pondered since arriving in Savanah made this an exciting book to read. Elviria is getting on my nerves and I don't understand why Carlita is putting up with it the way she does . I think it makes her look weak . Oh well... On to the next!
Elvira is missing, but no one's worried that she was kidnapped, because if someone had kidnapped her they would bring her back! They are worried that one of her hare brained schemes has backfired on her. Carlita and family members are itching to solve this mystery. Speaking of family Paulie has come to visit after issues with his wife.
Missing in Savannah: A Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery
I have enjoyed all the Savannah Cozy Mysteries. I do think they might be more enjoyable without the character of Elvira, by the rest of the characters are charming
I love this series! Such a fun, entertaining series following the Garlucci family. This book discovers the story behind the gems that Mercedes and Carlitta found in the basement. I can’t wait to read book #7: Setup in Savannah!
These books are so well written the characters are really good and fast paced stories make these books a really enjoyable experience I would recommend these to anyone who likes cozy mystery stories.☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
I love Carlitta. She is such a great sleuth. I also love her honesty. I was glad she decided to do the right thing at the end. The protagonist was a bit of a surprise. Keep them coming Hope.
A great read...Once again Hope Callaghan has written a great story..however as Made in Savannah is a series of books following the same story line it is hard to keep giving reviews after each entry!
When Elvira goes missing everyone helps look for her even though she is a big pain. When they find out she is looking for lost gems things get complicated seeing as the gems have already been found. "Family" secrets are reveled.
I never had shoulder surgery. I started with the Siren of the Seas books. Great reads! Then, the Savannah books popped up. I just had to start them. Great reads for something different. Carlita is such a great womanl
I’m thinking this series was written for the teen market. Simple, very quick reads with some interesting mysteries. The first was slow moving. I’m not loving it but am continuing to read because I’m hooked into finding out what happens with the Garlucci family, especially Carlita & Mercedes.
I really like this series and am cheering for Carlitta in every book. However Elvira is another story. Sometimes I skip ahead because she really irritates me and is a waste of my time.
Very interesting story! Love the characters, especially Elvira. She such a self serving know it all who never admits to being wrong. Can't wait for the next book!
Awesome series. Meet the Montgomery family, find the crazy rent or, and stay away from the mafia. Great series start at beginning to keep up with the characters.
