Cute monster smut that got the atmosphere of the corporate getaway just right.
This was a quick and dirty novella about a gargoyle and a siren. Don’t expect much for story, it’s mostly horny internal monologues and sex that was slightly overcomplicated but also hot enough. But frankly that’s what these books are all about so I’ve rated accordingly.
It had the same vibes as the orc from the office, including an illustration, if you enjoyed that, you’ll like this one.

Kate Prior writes our favorite monster romances: they map corporate culture onto the Evil Empire (which works wayyyyyy better than it should). In this entry, Gwen, a siren, has to attend a week-long, off-site corporate retreat - while she's on her cycle. (As a siren, once a year she basically goes into heat.) This is basically the worst time for her to be around a lot of people, especially coworkers. Especially her new gargoyle coworker.
Although Love, Laugh, Lich remains our favorite in the series, Gwen and Vlad are great, sexy additions to the Evil Inc. gang. The book would have benefited from a tighter focus on one aspect of corporate culture (or evil empire culture?): we get a lot of different possibilities, including dating a coworker, forced social interaction with coworkers, impostor syndrome, quiet quitting, and even invisible disability accommodations, but none of them take center stage. The relationship is very sexy, though, and will meet your monster romance needs.

This is another adorable installment in the Claws and Cubicle series about an office full of monsters and humans in the corporate world. This short and simple novella may not be full of plot and substance, but, who needs that when you can have dirty monster smut?!?! The story follows Vlad a sweet and savvy gargoyle, and Gwen, a siren who wants to be anywhere but at work. When the two meet at a corporate retreat, they strike up an unlikely friendship that quickly evolves into more as Gwen goes into a siren heat cycle. The two were so cute together! I loved how kind and understanding Vlad was, he was always sure to make Gwen feel seen and encourage her to open up.

The Gargoyle from General Management was cute I suppose but lacked actual relationship development. I honestly did not feel any real chemistry between Gwen the Siren and Vlad the Gargoyle. I have no understanding of how they got from A to B. I don’t even really know anything meaningful about the characters.
Gwen was a bit over the top with her recluse attitude and Vlad felt mechanical in and out of the bedroom. The steam was low and not all that hot. I adored the previous books in this series but this felt one dimensional and a bit boring to be honest🤷🏻♀️.

I originally paused this at 40% because we were spending so much time in Gwen’s head, and then I continued a few days later.
I’ve finished the book now and we still spend A LOT of time in Gwen’s head, because she’s an introverted siren who has major imposter syndrome in her Monster Resource job. The monster version of corporate America was really fun in the first two books, but Gwen’s workplace insecurities felt a little too real for me to FULLY enjoy the book. 🥺 And then add in Vlad, the sweetest Gargoyle who felt like a replaceable cog in the machine in his last job when times got tough? 🥺🥺🥺
Romance-wise, I wish we had more relationship development. Gwen and Vlad had a series of steamy scenes (which were all pretty great, especially that elevator scene 🥵) but it was hard to get invested in their relationship without seeing more of an emotional connection.

I love this one, just like the Orc From the Office. It's just so cute and sweet.
I don't usually like insta-lust, but somehow this worked for me. This came with great character and relationship growth, even in the small book.
I don't know what to say other than I love this. I have all the best feelings left after reading it.

After utterly adoring Orc from the Office, I was super excited to read more in the Claws & Cubicles universe. Gwen works in Monster Resources, but she struggles with feelings of being a fraud because doesn’t have a degree or other qualifications. When she bumps into a gargoyle on her way to a work retreat and keeps embarrassing herself, she’s sure it’ll be fine because she’ll never see him again. Unfortunately it turns out he’s the new hire and because of her background in The Peaks, where gargoyles typically live and work, she feels even more incompetent because he’s so put together all the time. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel extreme chemistry with him, and with her siren heat cycle having just come around, he’s the only one who can help her alleviate her need.
This was cute and I love seeing more of the world being developed across the series, but sometimes the pacing felt a little jumpy. I had fun with the beginning in particular and the hijinks of Gwen and Vlad running into one another in embarrassing circumstances. I think I wish there was more on-page emotional development outside their sexual chemistry, though I did enjoy the reconciliation. This is 100% personal preference, but I love the silly stuff and the world building stuff in particular, and I wish there had been more.

I love this office monster romance! Gwen was so relatable it almost hurts 🤌 I love her character development and love her inner monologue so much! I also love how patient Vlad was with Gwen. He's so amazing and understanding with her 🥹 I also enjoyed the character cameos from the previous books in the series as well. The Gargoyle from General Management was a delightful read and I highly recommend it!

I am enjoying this series overall but this is my least favorite. It feels rushed and I had no idea what Vlad was thinking or feeling aside from horny.

Very confusing writing. I was lost as to where we were the whole time. It felt like I had skipped a page and lost some information, but no, it was just confusing. The characters were also weird. She tried to give the fmc so much depth, but it kinda lacked. The MMC was just there. Sad as I really did enjoy the second one in this series

Sadly, this series has been on a downward spiral for me. Katy’s humorous writing is there but the chemistry between the two main characters wasn’t. I couldn’t connect with Gwen and we know nothing about Vlad.

I didn’t like this installment in the series. I never got a good handle of who the h was until the last 15% of the book so it made it really hard to connect and relate to her. I honestly thought she was awful. I wish we would have been able to see her through the Hs eyes a little bit, I think that would have helped to make her a more likable character for me.
The H was fine, I guess but he just felt like an accessory to her story because the relationship development was so thin. There were entirely too many side characters for a book this short.
The sex was majorly cringey because most of the scenes were just turned into a big joke, the h wears this jokey jokey mask at all times and having that in the bedroom was a major turn off. I don’t remember the prior book being this cheesy. I honestly didn’t want to finish and won’t read book four.

A great cozy monster office romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The FMC is the train conductor of the hot mess express, and I was here for it. There were parts that had me laughing out loud, and my family questioning my sanity. I don't think I have read a romcom before, but I'm pretty sure I have now in the form of an office monster romance. I need more books similar to this immediately. I often read a lot of dark and heavy content, but this was a light and refreshing change of pace, and I was really surprised by how much I loved it. I'm reading all of Kate's prior work as soon as my schedule allows.
My heat rating is based on the amount of occurrence, length of scenes, and how filthy/unconventional the scenes are. This rates a 3/5🌶.

This was so fun! I loved the world previously established in the series and was so pleased to return to it. The combination of corporate lingo and monsters really just gets me giggling. Swapping from an actual workplace to a work retreat kept the series fresh.
I enjoyed the overall plot and characters (and honestly who wouldn't work extra hard for a gold star sticker?) Though I did feel like there was a bit of a pacing issue when we jumped from the build up to the climax (pun intended) to the third act. I think the book could have benefited from an extra 100 pages to flesh it out a little more, or maybe a dual POV? (Ok id absolutely reread this from Vlads perspective!)
The spice was fun , and if this is 't your first foray into monster smut it's pretty tame. If it is your first time, enjoy the elevator!
Definitely looking forward to reading more in the series.

Perfect monster office romance!
I loved the romance between Vlad and Gwen. He was so supportive and patient with her. The tension was great, but I was definitely ready for them to finally get together! And oh boy did they get together. That meeting and elevator scene was hot! 🥵 And it just kept getting better.
Gwen's POV was hilarious. She had me cracking up. The humor was perfection. And I really related to her introverted, hermit lifestyle. 😆
Can I have my own gargoyle to wrap his wings around me and give me a shiny sticker?

I didn’t expect to find such a relatable protagonist but then Gwen showed up with her anxiety, her attachment to her work from home life, and her video game, art loving self.
The whole novel is very in touch with the soul sucking corporate office lifestyle, including eventually the bonds that can be formed with your coworkers by just existing together in hell ❤️

October 16, 2024This book isn't working for me at all - some things don't add up, the emotional beats are off, and I was left more bewildered than anything. Could be better with a strong story edit + copyedit, but as is I'm DNFing at page 48. After liking The Orc from the Office I'm sad that the rest of the series isn't working for me.

Here's my notes while reading thus far:
I struggled with feeling frustrated with Gwen's constant string of terrible decisions and weird inability to find a proper private space for hanky panky (you're in a HOTEL! you have access to TWO hotel rooms! with beds!) rather than tantalized or invested in any possible related romantic outcome. It was a barrier to my enjoying the story. For me, it was like reading funny bits and pieces of the corporate evil overlord culture interspersed with awkward, cringey encounters Gwen has with Vladyr.

I love Soven! Soven is still my top favorite of this series so far.

The Gargoyle from General Management gives us Gwen and Vlad, and this time we have a very put-together, no-nonsense gargoyle paired with a woman whose life could perhaps benefit from a filing system. Obviously, this is an excellent arrangement. It’s another ridiculous little office romance that somehow makes having a gargoyle in management seem like a perfectly reasonable corporate structure.
Characters:
Gwen: A hot mess. Affectionately. I really liked her, and I loved that she wasn’t magically transformed into an organized, sensible person simply because she fell in love. She and Vlad are so different that watching them work together was half the fun.
Vlad: Put together, sensible, dependable. Yes please. There is something very appealing about a man who looks at a disaster and simply starts fixing things. Especially when the disaster is the woman he’s falling in love with.
Overall Thoughts:
What a delightful little series. Gwen and Vlad aren’t quite Janice and Khent for me, but I really enjoyed them together and thought this was such a cute way to finish things off.
Kate Prior has also somehow convinced me that monster romance and office romance belong together. If you like office romances, try this series. If you like monster romances, try this series. If you like both, I’m not sure why you’re still reading my review. Go.

This series is a goofy, sexy time, overall. However, I did find myself struggling with certain things throughout The Gargoyle from General Management. Namely, it felt like the writing was more stilted and less smooth. Some of the sentence structuring felt so offbeat that I had to go back and reread them, multiple times to find the flow that would allow the sentence to make sense. I've had no issue with Prior's writing before, so I'm not sure if there was just a lack of editing here, or what.
There were also times where what was being explained just didn't seem clear. I felt like I had missed scenes because things were brought up that didn't seem to align well with the actual written work.
That being said, I didn't read this because I thought it would be a shining literary read of our times, yanno? I read it because I'm a weird smut reader who wanted a gargoyle to, ahem, smash their coworker, if you catch my drift. And that, my friends, I did receive 😏

I had been waiting for this with bated breath and I was not disappointed. This series is so much fun and so hot and so very relatable. I felt Gwen down to my bones. And Vladyr… yum. Love me a MMC who lives for praising his lady/love interest. This series has me at a chokehold and I ain’t even mad about it 🤣🤣🤣

If you like casual, modern paranormal romance, which I love, this may be up your alley.

He instantly likes her, but she’s too worried he will judge her for being a soul sucking siren for her to fully embrace the chance to be with him.
There’s some corporate mumbo jumbo which amused me because my most recent position was at a Tech company and it really felt like real life just with paranormal creatures.
