*Sigh* What a breath of fresh air! Just before I started this one I read like 4-5 contemporary romance books that were all in the 3 star range and was just feeling down and out. :-( THANK GOD this book came at the right time to cheer me up!! Ever since Kait wrote a guest post (found here) about each of the members of the Execution Underground I’ve been intrigued by Jace. Here is how she describes Jace:
Jace McCannon
Occupation: Werewolf Hunter
Height: 6’4
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Eye Color: Emerald
Hair Color: Auburn, chin length
*phew* Main points- over 6 foot tall and green eyes…yum! No surprise that my hubby is also over 6 foot with green eyes, right? LOL Jace is the ultimate bad boy. He’s arrogant. He smokes cigarettes and always has a flask of whiskey on hand. Underneath all that he’s smart, loyal and sweet. His upbringing wasn’t the best and he’s been carrying around a lot of regret and anger from his past, which led him to his current profession.
Frankie is a werewolf, salsa dancer and the new Packmaster. When her parents passed away due to her lineage she was to be Packmaster of the Rochester wolves. Although she was the leader, she was still new to her role, she seemed kind of soft at times. Don’t get me wrong we did see her in action and she is HARD CORE but it was because of this perceived softness that she had to act in such a drastic manner.
The chemistry between Jace and Frankie was definitely there the moment the met. My favorite scene was when they danced together. So freaking cute.
Twilight Hunter was told in several POVs. There were at least 4 that I can think of off the top of my head: Jace, Frankie, Robert, and David. I’m normally not a fan of a lot of POV changes. I am happy to say that the POV transitions were smooth. I like that getting David’s POV set us up for his book which is up next book, Immortal Hunter.
Robert, the villian, his POV was well written too. Robert was a sadistic bastard that loved to murder, torture and rape women. It was almost unnerving to hear his POV at times and most certainly made me cringe a time or two. He’s one sick individual. His POV wasn’t too overdone and I thought see his side did help the story move along well.
If you read the prequel to this series, Shadow Hunter which was inside After Dark (see my review here), then you know Damon Brock. Damon does make some appearances here, as he is Jace’s boss in the Execution Underground. Don’t expect the same Damon as in Shadow Hunter because he is totally NOT the same man. He actually pissed me off on several occasions.
I enjoyed getting to know the personalities of the other members of EU, like David and Shane. Shane is pretty nerdy but still cute in that nerdy cute way. LOL. We got to learn about David in this one since we heard his POV a few times in this one. He’s got a HUGE heart and he hunts demons…you know he’s badass! :-P The others like Trent and Ash made quick appearances but didn’t really get to know them and I’m anxious to hear more about them.
Overall, I really loved Twilight Hunter. It had the feel of an Urban Fantasy book with non-stop action but ultimately stole my heart with it’s romance and love story between Jace and Frankie. :-) I can’t wait to read Immortal Hunter, David and Allsun’s story.
