Often, we think of clutter in terms of physical stuff. We see books and magazines spilled across the coffee table, extra dishes stacked on the counter, and clothing draped over the dresser, the treadmill and any other available surface in the bedroom. The truth is that clutter can also be an emotional, mental, and social issue. According to Australian psychologist Dr. Russ Harris, author of The Happiness How to Stop Struggling and Start Living, “Thus, evolution has shaped our brains so that we are hardwired to suffer to compare, evaluate, and criticize ourselves, to focus on what we’re lacking, to rapidly become dissatisfied with what we have, and to imagine all sorts of frightening scenarios, most of which will never happen. ...just skip to the tenth chapter and read that. The title indicates decluttering your life, and I suppose it lives up to that. I was mainly looking for organizational help, and I found it in that one chapter. Also, the book needs further editing.
It is a book that discusses all kinds of clutter. It does try to encourage you not to get overwhelm. As the saying goes clutter is a very costly thing. It causes you money, stress, and opportunities. It is just plan old time consuming.
This book gets this rating for it was easy to read and understand. You could go through this in one day of you had the chance.
The author provides quick practical suggestions for decluttering both your physical and mental life. If you are new to these ideas, you may need more information but it can help you get an idea of where to start. My only critique was that the chapters bounced between physical and mental clutter and that was distracting.
