An archaeologist invents a new, highly successful form of psycho-therapy based on Stone Age shamanism. What is going on?! It could just be me, starting this on a Fri afternoon after a long week, but I felt like it was an exercise in stream of consciousness writing. Just not for me- DNF 8%.
Way too long of chapters which makes my preferred, read a quick chapter before bed style, very hard. Gets on a subject and really thoroughly plays it out. Has some interesting takes on various things and I found it thought provoking and intriguing. Really quite prettily written.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
Yes, it is long. Yes, I had to look up a vocab word every few pages. Yes, this is only part one of an epic trio of novels. This is the tale of a young man trying to navigate his way through the world while being emotionally assaulted by various characters (mother, mother's lover, disingenuous girlfriend). Various international settings allow for colorful subplots, preventing any stagnancy in the story. Part One ends abruptly, making me anxious to read Part Two.
I feel a little guilty about marking this book as "read". I could not do it. Got about 30% through it and decided life is too short. The book up to that point was a total slog, the characters unlikeable and no storyline that I could discern. Maybe it all makes sense in the end, but I just couldn't do it. I guess some folks like this book though because it is part of a series. To each his/her own.
