After completing the biggest case of his career, private detective Hank DeShear returns home to start treatment for a disabling genetic condition that could end his life, but he learns his partner on the prior case has just been murdered.
Was he wrong to conclude the secretive killer known as The Greyhound had declared a truce? Or, have disciples of The Greyhound surfaced to carry on with the murders?
DeShear is able to attach himself to an overseas goodwill mission headed by the US vice president, enabling him to pursue leads in foreign hospitals he thinks could be offshoots of Angelus Genetics’ illegal organ-harvesting programs and human-trafficking operations.
Determined to pursue the truth wherever it leads, DeShear must also keep a low profile so he doesn’t become the next murder victim. But the onset of his debilitating condition may kill DeShear even before the murderer gets a chance.
Fans of Robin Cook and Michael Crichton will love the latest addition to this well-written and suspenseful series.

Dan Alarorre is at it again with more action packed adventures, and thrills with none other than Hank DeShear. I absolutely love that Hank is called DeShear and not Hank throughout the book. Learning to cope with his illness and back fighting ghosts or persons thought to be ghost from the last book has DeShear all over the world fighting the bad guys. Or is he really siding with the bad guys and he doesn’t even know it? Loved this book.
Action packed drama from start to finish, but with a twist I didn't see coming. Good characters & storyline. Well written. Where will the future of AI take us? Also part of the Pulse 13 book medical collection. I've now read the 1st & last books in the collection & I'm hoping the 11 books in between are as good.
My brain is still buzzing. Another packed story, better, I have to say than book 1 The Gamma sequence. Organ harvesting, trafficking, secrets, lies and all made more believable by the duplicitous people that I could almost smell. Assassins, ex wives, political giants, scientists and truck drivers all play a part within the pages of this book. To think they were born in the brain of Dan Alatorre, I chose to drop no spoilers, to tell no secrets ... or lies. But if you personally know Dan I suggest you grow a fresh pair of eyes for the back of your head. This has been a journey for me perspiring as I turned another page, It will stay with me for a while this wicked action packed book. One not to be interrupted by the monotony of life.
Dan Alatorre never ceases to amaze me! Another adventure with ex cop turned PI, Hank DeShear has found out he has genetic issues which might take his life without treatment. He has to travel to a hospital to be treated by a personal medic. Trouble arises and they have to leave. They are constantly on the run from the US to London to Ukraine searching for an insane scientist. I felt I was running with them, heart racing, heartbreaking. You will not be disappointed! Awesome read!
When Dan Alatorre writes a story, he writes a story. I compare him to Dan Brown’s DaVinci Code. His story moves right along with the protagonists barely having a chance to take a breath. Unexpected twists and turns, well developed characters and a sequel to follow. This book will not disappoint you.
‘Ten months of treatment. That sounds like forever.’
Florida author Dan Alatorre was born in Ohio, and graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida before earning an MBA from Tampa College. He is famous for his many book s that deal with humor and food and for some short stories in anthologies that fall into the mystery/horror category. It is rewarding to see how now he visits the full-length mystery novel - DOUBLE BLIND, THE NAVIGATORS, and now THE GAMMA SEQUENCE, a Medical Thriller series of which this ROGUE ELEMENTS is Book 2 - and is as successful with serious tales as he is with humor.
As with all his books, Dan jumps in with an explosive start that pulls his readers in immediately. Taking on scientific sidebars – genetics, in this case – is another aspect of Dan’s talent that makes his novels fascinating. But using that sidebar to shoulder the spear of the plot takes special skill, and the manner in which he incorporates the dark side of scientific evidence makes this story ring true.
Dan’s keen writing style blisters the opening of this fascinating new volume, evidenced in his opening line – ‘The assassin backed his stolen car into the parking space, exactly three rows form the target vehicle where the device would go. He tapped his fingers on the wheel. This was a good spot. Close enough to see his victim in the parking garage, but far away enough to not be noticed by her. He glanced at his watch for the third time in two minutes, Two twenty-seven A.M.’ The synopsis provides a map of the tale – ‘After completing the biggest case of his career, private detective Hank DeShear returns home to start treatment for a disabling genetic condition that could end his life, but he learns his partner on the prior case has just been murdered. Was he wrong to conclude the secretive killer known as The Greyhound had declared a truce? Or have disciples of The Greyhound surfaced to carry on with the murders? DeShear is able to attach himself to an overseas goodwill mission headed by the U. S. Vice President, enabling him to pursue leads in foreign hospitals he thinks could be offshoots of Angelus Genetics’ illegal organ harvesting programs and human trafficking operations. Determined to pursue the truth wherever it leads, DeShear must also keep a low profile so he doesn’t become the next murder victim—but the onset of his debilitating condition may kill DeShear before the murderer gets a chance. ’
And so Dan Alatorre proves he is as successful with writing mysteries as he is with all the other categories of books that are best sellers. This is a griping story - and one that magnetizes our attention to possibilities.
Rogue Elements is the second book in this series and I have read book 1. I am of the view that while it is nice to read the books in order as it gives you back story to the characters, it is not necessary to have read The Gamma Sequence to enjoy this book.
Rogue Elements gets off to an exciting start with private investigator, Hank DeShear, and his partner returning to the USA after the conclusion of their investigation in Indonesia. Hank is just about to start his life saving treatments to prevent the Gamma Sequence from triggering and killing him, when he gets a phone call saying that his partner has been brutally murdered on her way home from the airport. Hank believes that a killer called The Greyhound may not have died in Indonesia and may be the perpetrator of the murder. He prepares to leave for the murder scene having persuaded Maya, the lady who must administer his treatments, to accompany him and provide the treatments remotely. This is the start of another investigation which will take the pair to the United Kingdom and Hank on to Europe.
This is an exciting and fast paced book with plenty of intrigue and red herrings. There is lots of political intrigue with the Vice President of the USA once again offering to aid DeShear in the pursuit of his objectives and behind the political scenes corruption and profiteering. The genetic engineering premise in this book is well research and fresh, providing an exciting and horrifying new angle on this theme.
Who is the woman called Jaden Trinn and how does she fit in with possible further illegal activity by Angelus Genetics? I was pleased to see the introduction of a new strong willed and agile minded female character into this series and I also enjoyed the tiny flame of romance that seems to have ignited between Trinn and DeShear by the end of this book. Trinn is tough and clever with her own objectives and plans. She is loyal and determined and DeShear couldn't have a better companion for this adventure.
DeShear lives up to his previous reputation of being a hero who allows nothing and no-one to stand in his way of saving innocent victims. It was an interesting twist to have him fighting a life threatening illness in this book and having moments of vulnerability and weakness.
If you enjoy exciting thrillers with a medical theme and strong and interesting characters, then this is the book for you.
I really enjoyed reading this next book in the Gamma Sequence Series. Even though our main character in this book Hank DeShear has found out that he has the Gamma Sequence disease, he is determined to get rid of the founder of Angelus Genetics, Dr. Hauser. But is Dr. Hauser even still alive? This book is full of suspense with action happening almost continuously as DeShear, meets new characters not knowing whether they are going to kill him or help him. A new romance even starts before this book finishes as well as a huge surprise at the end. You will not want to miss this book which can be read as stand alone but it is so much better if you read the Gamma Sequence first. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series Terminal Sequence. I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinion of a book I really enjoyed.
At the end of The Gamma Sequence one couldn’t be sure if Dr. Hauser was dead. No matter, I was just looking forward to more adventures of the Lanaya and Hank team.
It was a bit disappointing to find Hank with a new partner. Can he really trust Jaden? Does she trust him? One does wonder.
It appears The Greyhound is still murdering people. It also appears that Angelus Genetics is still in business.
Hank is able to accompany the U.S. Vice President on an overseas trip so he can check out this possibility. It’s difficult to figure out whether the people he meets are the good guys or the bad guys. It’s an adrenaline filled trip with a surprise ending.
I’m so caught up in The Gamma Sequence books. I’m wondering how Book 3 will top this one. Thank you, Mr. Alatorre, for another gripping book.
***Book received without charge from the author.***
Wow! Just 🤯😱🤯! I am now a Gamma Sequence junky! Congratulations Dan Alatorre!!! You’re stuck with me now! So this book is a sequel to Gamma Sequence and in this book the story is a direct continuation of the first book which I love by the way! Most sequels take place as a small time lapse. So murders are happening, bombs are going off, people are abducted and so on and so on…. Meanwhile De’Shear is unraveling and his health is taking a toll all while investigating these crimes! Must read!!!! It’s action packed, nail biting suspenseful scenes that you can actually see happening in real life!
I rated the story and overall as 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s which is high praise from me! I don’t normally rate 5 stars! The narrator of the audiobook I rated as 3⭐️⭐️⭐️’s because I felt like she could have done better but still enjoyed it!
PI Hank DeShear battles Rogue Elements — evil scientists engineering humans for profit — while fighting a ticking bomb in his own DNA. I love this series! This book is the second in the Gamma Sequence series, and it ROCKS! The baddies have developed even more sinister roles for their engineered humans, and the magnitude of their operations boggles the mind. Hank DeShear had plans to undergo medical treatments to combat the Gamma Sequence that’s programmed his own DNA to shut down his body — permanently, but ... they didn’t program out his good-guy genes! He’s called into action again, globe-hopping in a race against evil and his own treacherous body, dragging his doctors along. This is a deliciously-plotted book, one that’s hard to put down.
P I Hank DeShear has just returned to Miami from a secret mission to close down Angelis Genetics, a business deep in human trafficking and illegal organ harvesting. Hank has just learned that he has a disabling genetic condition that, if not treated immediately, he will most likely die. As they are about to start his treatment, Hank receives a call that his partner has been murdered. Hank arranges, through his ex-wife, to go back overseas on a goodwill mission as a guest of the Vice President. He takes Maya, the medical expert for his condition, with him as he tries to find his partner's killer. Can't tell you any more but this is a very fast pace story with a surprise ending. Enjoy.
This review is after reading book 3 first, then book 1; and now book 2, "The Gamma Sequence". This brings me full circle and ready to get to book 4... "The Keepers". (Keep in mind that I left reviews of each book).
My mind is now going over all of the information I have uncovered while catching up on this series "Rogue Elements ". My title suggests layers of mystery and that is exactly what I see as the story unfolds. There are several characters that are interesting in themselves and I find I want to know more about them. It is amazing to me that there are people in this world so evil that we can't fathom the depths to which their minds work or scheme.
Rogue Elements: The Gamma Sequence Book 2 by Author, Dan Alatorre is a great addition to this series. The story picks up where the 1st book ended and right from the first page the story bolts right out of the gate at full speed and never slows down until the very last page. The reader will continue to learn more about the main characters and the twists and turns this story takes are many and engaging. I would highly recommend this story (upon completion of the first book in the series) for anyone wanting a fast paced, intelligent read with high action, interesting characters and love of good versus evil adventure. I am looking forward to book three.
Following the story from the 1st book, The Gamma Sequence, this time Jaden and Hank teamed up to expose yet another facility where the genetic manipulation was taking place. The story is fast paced and hard to put down. It will continue in the next book. Probably the biggest revelation is at the end where the Vice President and National Intelligence Director are both involved on the wrong side. Plus the Greyhound is starting to look like one of the good guys. I am not sure I would call this a medical mystery, but more an action book tracking down those who are misusing the genetic code information.
Rogue Elements (The Gamma Sequence #2), my fifth read from author Dan Alatorre. I don't restrict myself to a particular genre. I'm a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing and a plot that keeps me turning the page & this book did, continuing seamlessly from The Gamma Sequence! I bought this book back in December after reading The Gamma Sequence & one thing lead to another & I'm just now getting around to reading & reviewing it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Once again the story starts off with a bang and the action never lets up. In this book, we learn more about all the main characters and the gray areas of good and bad become even more blurred. Figuring out how all the characters fit into the puzzle isn't easy due to those blurred lines. Once more, Hank is the only one who always falls into the good guy role. I devoured this book in one sitting and am getting ready to read the last book in the trilogy. I can't wait to find out if Hauser is really alive or dead.
I don't believe this book will make much sense unless you read book one - Gamma Sequence
The Greyhound did a Sherlock Holmes, over the water fall, and disappeared. However, the teams he had instigated were still up and running, with the list of scientists that were involved in the genetic tests, and therefore it is these teams that are now going to go rogue and finish the work The Greyhound had started. Again, we believe that the Indonesian setup closed the genetic labs down, but news in other parts of the world prove otherwise. Off course our favorite PI is again in the thick of it.
I absolutely love Dan Alatore's storytelling ability. His genuine love of writing shines through in all genres he writes. I thought the Gamma Sequence couldn't be beaten, but Dan did it. The second in the series is better than the first! The twists will keep you second-guessing yourself. From the beginning scene to the end, you won't be able to put it down. So purchase a copy of this book (and the first) and enjoy the thrilling ride!
I loved the Gamma Sequence and didn't know how this one could be better. But I was wrong. It starts out with a favorite character from the fist one being killed. It grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. New characters plus some old, lots of plot twists, for me I wasn't sure who Hank should trust. The end is a schocker and when the 3rd one is ready, I am still not sure who all should be trusted. Lots of action and very much a thriller. I am ready for the 3rd.
Rogue Elements is the 2nd book in the Gamma Sequence series. A top-notch medical thriller that successfully merges politics, ethics and science into an astounding page-turner. Get ready for deviant corruption that reaches into the upper echelons of politics, genetic engineering at its worst, a breath-taking highspeed chase and so much more! I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Another excellently written book by Dan. The second book in this series is even better than the first. The secrets, the lies, mad doctors, and the amount of action in this book will have your mouth dropping wide open. No one is safe in this book. I was sending Dan messages as I was reading this, like omg you killed so and so off already wth lol. If you like thrillers that are action-packed, definitely pick up the series.
I read the first one in the series and enjoyed it. However, I did not like this one. I didn’t even finish it. There were too many characters and therefore the characters felt very superficial. When coupled with an attempt at action and thrill the multitude of characters got chaotic and difficult to keep track of. It is unfortunate that the second in the series took such a downward turn. Very disappointed.
This is the second great book in this series. There was a lot of twists and turns that kept me interested throughout the story. I have the next book in the series and I can't wait to read it. I have enjoyed all the books by Mr. Alatorre, he is a great story teller. I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my voluntary review.
A book about an undercover cop working the drug scene
This is a true story about an undercover cop working in the drug scene in Britain and the United States and the story is written by the actual undercover cop. It was an interesting read and I would recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a true story.
I read Book 1 and was fascinated and entertained. Book 2 just gives you so much wow. One of the better Political Thriller series I have read in a while.
Would make for a great big screen movie.
So for you fans out there, who enjoy Thrillers and Politics, put this series on your list.
Mr Hauser has spent his life researching the human DNA. He claims to be looking for cures to many ills caused by genetics. Is a brilliant philanthropist or a mad man? Your job dear reader is trying to answer that question. Be prepared to sit and wanting to finish in one day.
This story has a Doctor telling people that his pro types will come to no harm to others. Getting people to believe that his treatments will actually help him or her get better. Hamilton DeShear is seeking getting help, from some assistance with his treatment. And help from a close friend looking into Gamma Sequence Laboratory.
I have enjoyed this book. Very well written. The twist and adventures throughout this book have me spinning. Wow. I am on the edge of my seat. Who is involved with who is keeping this whole mystery alive. Just when I think I have something figured out there is a twist and I am wrong. Ready to keep reading.
