Quicksand
Not everyone is born with the confidence and knowledge required to do it all. Some pick one thing, focus all of their energy into that one thing, and run away from the rest.
Safety. That's what it comes down to. Making the safe choices. The choices that can be controlled and contained. For Kennedy Callahan, that is her career. School is easy. Studying is easy. It's the other parts of life she purposely avoids.
Except, control is fleeting. The universe refuses to offer you that power and when Kennedy meets Mason McCarthy, she learns that lesson all too quickly.

Kennedy: "I had experienced a few downward spirals in my day but none as legitimate as this. This was a real problem, not some imaginary obstacle I had concocted to justify hiding. My lifetime of avoidance had done nothing to prepare me. With no point of reference to fall back on I was just simply falling—in love, in trouble, and insane."
Mason: "One look in her eyes, even from a distance, and I knew I was going to make a fool of myself. Hopefully, she would never know that, as I had become adept to maintaining a cool exterior. The wheels in my head were already in motion. For the first time in…well, ever, I wanted to make a fool of myself. I wanted to know her and fall at her feet, begging if she said no."

Absolutely loved this story..runs true with relationships that many go through.
