Jennifer Lewis is the USA Today bestselling author of more than thirty books, which have been translated into more than twenty languages.
"I’ve been making up stories since the day I was born. I always loved to draw as well as write and as a child I drew graphic novellas featuring penniless but plucky Cinderella heroines. My love of daydreaming earned me the nickname “Dozy Duck” in Kindergarten, and I still consider staring into space to be a constructive activity.
I was born in Manhattan but my family moved to London when I was six months old, toting me along in a cat basket. I grew up as a Brit and traveled extensively in Europe during my only-slightly-misspent formative years.
I came back to the States to earn a bachelor’s degree in Semiotics from Brown University and begin a journey into the world of trans-Atlantic accents that I have still not fully emerged from. On graduation I returned to New York, where I learned to explain Semiotics on job interviews (“It’s the study of signs and systems of meaning!”) and to apply my knowledge in a very enjoyable career at a television museum.
While organizing exhibits on subjects ranging from Elvis Presley to Monty Python, I began to experiment with writing my own stories. It was quite a revelation to discover that the tales I’d been dreaming up forever could actually be turned into books. After a couple of detours--my son and my daughter--I focused all my creative energy on writing and my first book came out from Silhouette Desire in 2007.
I live in South Florida with my family, which includes an adorable greyhound and four horses.
We meet Gibran towards the end of Zadir's story. Gibran is brought in as the security and weapons expert for the family but he is also their brother. His father the King who passed away was an evil tyrant that did whatever he wanted and to whomever he wanted. Gibran's mother was a worker in the palace and he has his way with her, she in turn got pregnant with Gibran. Not being claimed by the King was probably the best thing but in turn he was sent away with his mother. He studied abroad and afterwards joined the French Foreign Legion. Thus bringing him into the lead of his own story.
Aliyah was the King's last wife and not by choice either, she was a young girl working in the market place when the King saw her. Since nobody refused the King, she was taken away to become his wife. The only good thing that came out of it are her two precious daughter's Nasri and Parsi (don't quote me on the name spellings please). Aliyah has never known or doesn't know what real intimacy between a man and a woman is. As far as she is concerned she has her kids and that's the only thing that matters.
Gibran is a man who lives by his own rules, he does things his way with no answers to no one. But him coming back into the palace after being so far away brings back memories and none of them are good. He has a bitterness that is deeply rooted against the Ubarite people even though he is one. As he comes back to help out with trying to discover whomever is trying to kill them, he meets Aliyah. A woman he has no idea that was going to penetrate and break through his icy heart. He was a natural killer and could defy anything and anyone but Aliyah not only touched his heart she now possesses it.
But the threat is still out there against his family and it is his job to make sure everyone is protected. This is an assignment he will not fail because he has a family to live for.
An excellent continuation to of the "Desert Kings" series. I love that fact of each brother being their own individual and it shines through from their own stories. The youngest brother Ahmad's story has just been released and I can't wait to read it.
Jennifer Lewis – Desert Kings - Return of the Rebel Sheikh: Gibran – Book 5
As we have found out in previous books, the dead King was not a good person. Because Ubar didn’t allow for divorce, he killed the current wife so that he could take a new one. Now we find out more about the 5th wife and widower, Aliyah, who has 2 small girls that she is raising at the palace. When the dead King claimed Aliyah, she was a teenager and the King was an old man. Now, the three brothers along with Ronnie and Sam loved her two little girls and want Aliyah to allow them to know her better.
Aliyah is very shy and is intimidated by the two wives/Queens because she doesn’t have an education and never been outside of Ubar, while the queens are both accomplished career and well traveled women. In a previous book, the brothers found out they had, yet, another ½ brother, Gibran who is the son of a servant, but, Gibran was never claimed by the king and he was old enough to go away to boarding school, the king sent him. After university, Gibran joined the French Foreign Legions. Now, Gibran was one of the very best in the world, security expert and was worth millions. King Osman tracks Gibran down in a previous book. Gibran was back in the palace, a place he said he would never return. Gibran doesn’t believe that the brothers will accept him as a true brother, no matter what they say. His intent is to leave as soon as possible. One night, he saw a beautiful woman walking a small Leopard in the Gardens. It was Aliyah and when she saw him, there was an instant pull. As time goes on, Gibran and Aliyah quit fighting their attraction to each other. Gibran told Aliyah that he would not be staying, but she was going to risk her heart anyway.
Can Gibran allow himself to trust anyone; after all, Aliyah is too good for him. Find out if they can have a HEA.
"4 out of 5 stars! Two people are thrown together during intense circumstances. It's not what I expected for this story but since it is basically a stand-alone prequel to "Aliyah: The Sheikh's Love Child," I find that I really liked it and am very intrigued to see where their story will go next. Even though their romance is a bit rushed, I liked seeing these two come together as they look like they could really be the "belonging" that each of them seem to crave."
Widowed queen Aliyah hides in the palace gardens. She doesn't want to anger the new king, Osman, or his family. Her life is focused on her two children until she meets a handsome stranger. Gibran is her late husband's illegitimate son and half brother of the Desert Kings. Their attraction is immediate and powerful. Where will their passion take them? Gibran is a rebel. He feels anger towards his brothers. I understood the feelings that he keeps hidden. I loved his romance with Aliyah. She brought out a tenderness that he didn't know he possessed. I loved their sexual chemistry. Aliyah is a gentle soul. She follows the Ubarite ways and has never know passion. I saw that with Gibran she changed into a woman who felt love and desire. He is fated to be her mate. Jennifer Lewis has written a sensual and compelling series. I'm hooked. I love the characters and want them to overcome their enemy. The setting is exotic and the plot is filled with suspense and danger. The Desert Kings' series is a rewarding read.
This book is so very different from Sam and Osman, Ronnie and Zadir. This book is surely the best one of them. All of the desert king book are great ,but Aliyah and Gibran are the cutest couple. She had to chase him, and what a surprise, he is feeling the same love as she. Hot, a book that I'll read several times.
