A young waitress is arrested and charged with the murder of four wealthy members of an exclusive private club. They were poisoned, and she was the one who served them that night and the last one known to see them alive.
The title couldn’t be more fitting, as the story is told through the perspectives of five men who each see her differently and give her a unique name: her dad calls her Kit-Kat, her lawyer calls her Katherine, the journalist dubs her Killer Kate, her best friend knows her as K.C., and her former lover calls her Wildcat. Each viewpoint paints a new picture of her character, but which one reveals the real Katherine Cole?
I went through a stretch where I was pretty burned out on thrillers and had to step away for a while, but the reviews for this one pulled me back in, and I’m glad they did. I much prefer psychological thrillers like this, ones that feel plausible and keep me guessing, over those that rely on an outrageous twist. I especially liked the structure and how the narrative unfolds with each of the men speaking directly to the FMC. Their perspectives were so distinct that I was never entirely sure who she really was.
I listened to the audiobook, which features a full cast of narrators, always my preference since it really elevates the experience. Even with the many shifting points of view, the unique nicknames and distinctive voices made it easy to follow along. Highly recommend!

Are you tired of the standard thriller fare? Well, look no further than Her Many Faces for an utterly original story that will grab you and never let go. Told from perspective of five men who know the woman on trial, her psyche was filtered through their idea of who and what she was. Riveting, well-plotted, and decidedly different, this unicorn thriller was unlike anything I’ve ever read—and that’s really saying something for this thriller lover. From the tense courtroom drama to the psychologically shrewd insights, the depth and suspense level of this debut was everything you could want in a novel. Quite frankly, Ms. Cloke, you delivered quite the stunner.
The biggest win, though, was easily the unique narrative style. With dual timelines and five distinct POVs, the cliffhanger chapters kept the question of who Katie really was hanging over my head. Innocent or guilty? Crazy stalker, misunderstood victim, or somewhere in between? Via an onion-like plot that developed her persona into a fully fleshed out individual, she came to life right before my highly suspicious eyes. Then there were the twists that were breathtaking in the extreme. Shocking yet plausible, I didn’t see them coming despite the many subtle clues. You see, thanks to the red herrings, the truth was kept just out of sight until the timely reveals blew me away.
The only minor issue that I had with the plot was the leisurely pace. You see, for two thirds of the novel, the slow excavation of who Katie was took away from the mystery behind this whodunnit. Then again, the narrative style had other undeniable pluses. Exploring the themes of identity and perception, the use of five unreliable perspectives—all of whom were male—made me think of the power that men have over how the world sees a woman. After all, thanks to their biased beliefs, her world was turned upside down. Was it a legitimate takedown of an unhinged waitress who murdered four men? Guess you’ll have to read this one ASAP to find out for yourself.
All said and done, while it could have been tightened up just a bit, I thoroughly enjoyed this mashup of hand-clenching suspense and lite literary fiction. Perfect for fans of Notes on an Execution, I raced through this novel in under twenty-four hours. With short chapters, perfect plotting, and a sharp character-driven storyline, I was head over heels well before the *chef’s kiss* conclusion. Add in how thought-provoking the whole premise was, and I think this would be an ideal book club selection. So if you love introspective tales that make you sit up and think all while you side-eye the characters, you should grab this one now. You won’t regret it in the least. Rating of 4 stars.

Finally- a book that I did not want to put down!! As many of you know, I have been in a bit of a book slump this summer/year, but I am happy to say that this book may have finally gotten me out of the slump! 🥳 This story had short, entertaining chapters, and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough!
This story is about a woman named Katherine Cole, who is on trial for the murder of four wealthy men who were at a very prestigious night club. Through this trial we get the many POV’s from the people who knew her, and their perspective of her. Who is the real Katherine Cole? And did any of them really know her at all?
The POV’s that we hear in this story are from her father, John- who calls her “Kit-Kat”. We then have Tarun, the lawyer, who calls her “Katherine”. We have Gabriel, the boy who is a friend, who calls her “K.C.”. Then there’s Conrad, who calls her, “Wildcat”. 😼 There’s also Max, the reporter, who calls her “Killer Kate”. Each of these POV’s were interesting and fun, and you never knew who knew her best.
All I have to say is add this book to your list now, as you won’t be sorry!! There are so many twists and theories going on, you won’t know who to believe, or where this story is going. I’m so glad I read this and finally got out of my reading slump!!

Her Many Faces was a psychologically-charged thriller and a twist-laden courtroom drama.The ending was masterfully executed – tying together the twists in an unexpected, shocking, very satisfying, and emotionally impacting way. Using second-person past tense was an effective narrative choice, as all information about Katie Cole was filtered through other characters – making it susceptible to misinterpretation, unreliability, bias, and the influence of their individual agendas. Not knowing who – or what – to trust added a thrilling layer of tension that made the book hard to put down. Seeing vulnerable characters buying into online conspiracy theories heightened my anxiety and made my skin crawl, and definitely echoed the world we’re living in with eerie precision. Nicci Cloke’s style of writing was similar to Liz Nugent I thought, as both authors traced a characters development from childhood through to the moment of the crime.

Who is the real Katie?
Four wealthy influential men are murdered at an exclusive club and Katie is arrested and on trial for the murders.
Through various points of view we meet the version of Katie that her father, childhood friend, boyfriend, lawyer, and a journalist know: KitKat/Katherine/KC/WildKat/Killer Kate.
Which one is the true version of Katherine? All? None? Is each version a facet of her personality? Or none of them? Can anyone’s version be completely trusted?
I read a book on memory a couple of years ago (Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting by Lisa Genova) and many of those themes play out in this book.
It’s a fascinating premise - the reader knows Kate only through other’s interpretation of her and must piece together the facts through their perspective. It’s thought-provoking to consider how well anyone knows a person when it’s filtered through personal interpretations and biases.
I did have a bit of trouble in the beginning keeping the characters straight on audio but the nicknames for Katie eventually helped.
This was a unique premise with a clever structure. The author keeps us guessing, which made for a fun buddy read with my friend, Marialyce.
I did not care for the side plot of conspiracy theorists, but that’s a personal choice, not the author’s fault. The story was strong despite that. The ending was brilliant.

This will go down as one of my favorite books of 2025! 🏆
Kit Kat, Katherine, KC, Wild Kat, Killer Kate - who is the real Katherine Cole?
When four of the wealthiest men in the world are poisoned at an exclusive club only for the most elite clients it appears that 22 year old waitress Katherine Cole is to blame as she was the only one with access to the Voltaire room all evening.
But not everything is what it seems and I will say no more than that. 🤐
One of my favorite things about this novel is the structure in which it was written. We get five perspectives from five different people that have known Katherine throughout her life providing insight into her character and how they saw her through their eyes. Short, snappy, chapters had me flipping the pages like a madwoman. I admit I did guess the culprit correctly but that in no way detracted from my reading experience.
This was intricately woven, well written, and juicy beyond belief. This is the first book in a long while that held me so captivated and for that: ALL THE STARS!!!

And trust me, you won’t be disappointed.

However, going back and forth between so many perspectives, I found it difficult to follow along without the text in front of me. And yet, without the audio, you miss the performative nature a full cast audio can bring. I’d recommend an immersive read if possible, and if not, sticking to the physical or ebook for the best reading experience.

Katherine is on trial for poisoning several high profile men while waitressing on them at their exclusive club, The March House. The story unfolds through five different perspectives: her father, lawyer, longtime friend, crime reporter and an ex lover. This is an extremely unique way of storytelling that sucked me in right away. With each different perspective, we get a different take on who Katherine is or who they believe she is. How this all came together was a perfect take on a crime/courtroom thriller, but also a character study on relationships and how people can be seen differently in the eyes of others.
Everything was tied up perfectly, and I definitely enjoyed this immensely. The only small quibble I had was that it seemed a tad too long. Overall, I would highly recommend giving this a read. It was extremely unique and now I have a new author to keep an eye out for.

“Her Many Faces”, by Nicci Cloke

This is a brilliant thriller!
I didn’t want to put the book down.
As the narration is told in 2nd person, this book may not please everyone.
As for myself, every time I pick a book written in second person I find it refreshing, as it does not happen that often.
The story is told by 5 different characters, in alternating chapters.
Each character has a different perspective of the main character.
Each chapter is very short, which makes this book a fast read, but so cleverly done, giving enough depth to the reader about the main character.
The timeline structure is not linear, so it does require some attention, but I didn’t think it was confusing.
The storytelling and the writing are both terrific!
The courtroom scenes were awesome but I wanted more.
And the conclusion was also well crafted.

Her Many Faces is an intriguing debut thriller. I listened to the audiobook which includes an all-star cast, while also following along with the ebook. I highly recommend listening to this one, as it really works with the unique structure of the book. I especially enjoyed the second half which includes a suspenseful courtroom drama. Cloke keeps readers guessing along the way, waiting until the very end for the stunning reveal!
The comparison to Notes on an Execution is spot on! Her Many Faces is a clever debut and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Phew! How we see people is often so diverse and can be deadly!
It's often amusing and honestly a tad strange how we view people. I guess we all have many faces we put forward in both our public and private life.
In Katherine Cole, accused of murdering four men, we take a trip with another five men, her father, a friend, her lawyer, a reporter, and a former boyfriend. Each of these men have a different name for Katherine including "Killer Kate", Katherine, Kit-Kat, Wildcat, and K.C. Just like the monikers for Katherine, each man presents a different view of Katherine, from darling daughter, to a twenty year old killer who poisoned five men in the exclusive London club. And then Kate murmured the words.' they deserved it." Certainly, a cut and dried admission isn't it?
This was a cleverly devised story, that although had me confused at the start, made for a well thought out story, that had me convinced who was and was not the murderer.
In Kate, we can see ourselves as others might see us. As our face will stay the same, what others see in that face and actions is totally different. This young Kate is pulled apart for the world to see, every foible, every indiscretion, every moment of love from a devoted father, and every private thought of being used and often abused.
A definite wild ride that had me immersed in the story of the many Kates!

Who is the young waitress?
Well, IT'S COMPLICATED.
She has many faces: Kit Kat, Katherine, Katie, Killer Kate.
Daughter, client, lover. monster.
Did this vulnerable and enigmatic waitress commit this heinous crime?
This pacy "Whodunnit?" thriller was jaw-dropping and never missed a beat.
I especially enjoyed the courtroom dialogue.
I listened to the audiobook expertly narrated by Sachin K. Sharma, Collin R. Campbell, Isaac Gryn, Maxim Ays, Louis Hill, Harvey Quinn, and Florence Howard.

We all have a different face to suit the circumstances we find ourselves in, or the people we are interacting with. Katie, Katherine, K.C., Kate, Kit–Kat, Wildcat, Killer Kate. Daughter, sister, friend, ex-partner, client, victim and so on but is one of Katherine’s faces that of a killer? Four very influential male members of a private club are poisoned and Kate, a waitress who serves them, is arrested, charged with their murders and put on trial. All the people who tell her story see a different person, but who is the real Katie/Katherine et cetera? Is she indeed Killer Kate?
This is an absolutely fantastic novel in my opinion, I’m gripped throughout by Katherine, by the concept and by the fast paced, short sharp chapters that keep the momentum going. I love the author’s style and the way she chooses to tell the story, it takes the reader on a journey, through plenty of unexpected twists, with characters whose behaviour sets the Spidey senses twitching! The conclusion is both believable and very satisfying clearly demonstrating a central character of many faces. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this unique thriller—it stands out because the story is told from several other people’s viewpoints rather than the one it actually centers around. I loved how each POV felt distinct, with its own personality and perspective that added depth to the overall story.
The courtroom drama was another highlight for me—it kept the tension high and moved the plot forward without ever feeling stagnant. I also appreciated the subplots that wove through the main narrative; they added extra context and kept things engaging without feeling distracting.
And that ending! It opened up just enough questions to leave me thinking, but still felt satisfying and well done. Overall, this was a great thriller, and I look forward to reading more by the author!

Each viewpoint offered something distinct and often contradictory about Katherine Cole, leaving me questioning: which version of her is the “real” one? Could they all be true at once? And ultimately, is she actually guilty?
I really enjoyed the structure here—the short, snappy chapters kept the pacing swift and made it easy to fly through. I also appreciated how original it felt compared to most thrillers I’ve read; the shifting perspectives made for an intriguing puzzle as I tried to piece together the truth.
That said, the ambiguity of the ending wasn’t my favorite. I personally prefer a clearer resolution, so that aspect left me feeling a little middle-of-the-road overall. Still, if you enjoy character-driven novels with a touch of mystery and suspense woven in, and an exploration of conspiracy, gender dynamics, and the malleability of a woman's identity through others’ opinions this one is definitely worth checking out!

What a unique book this was!
At only twenty-two, Katherine Cole is on trial for allegedly poisoning four wealthy and influential men at London’s most exclusive private club, where she worked as a waitress.
Katherine’s story unfolds through short, alternating chapters narrated by her father (who calls her Kit-Kat), her high school friend (K.C.), her ex-lover (Wildcat), her lawyer (Katherine), and a reporter (Killer Kate) covering the case. Each offers their perspective on her through their interactions, with some convinced of her guilt from the outset and others believing in her innocence.
Who is the real Katherine, and is she guilty or not?
This courtroom drama takes a refreshingly unexpected approach. Details that seem insignificant prove crucial in the end. I found the ending deeply satisfying.

This part thriller part intense court room drama of course has it's requisite twist but this one is big and it is wound really tight before it unwinds.
For those of you who like to read short chapters, fast paced and compelling stories, enjoy a book that tangles things with a conspiracy theory…this is a book for you.
I am recommending you read this exciting novel and I certainly will be reading more of Nicci Cloke's work.

Centered around the enigmatic Katherine “Katie” Cole - arrested for the poisoning deaths of four high-profile men at an exclusive London club where she waitressed - "Her Many Faces" is both a gripping murder mystery and a clever courtroom drama, but moreover, it's an unsettling exploration of perception, identity, and the destructive power of the male gaze.
Told through the eyes of five men from different corners of Katie’s life - her defense attorney, her father, a court reporter, her childhood best friend, and her lover - the novel unfolds like a psychological jigsaw puzzle. Each man sees a different version of her and, interestingly, calls her by a different name: to them, she is "Katherine", “Kit-Kat,” "Killer Kate", "K.C.", "wildcat”. Katherine, Katie, Kit Kat, Killer Kate- just who is the woman accused of murdering four rich listers with poison? Everyone: her dad, best friend, lawyer, brother, and her ex, know their version but which one is truly her? Do we ever fully know someone? Or do we simply know the truth we choose to believe?
Her Many Faces is told from all these POVs, in short, alternating chapters, and leaves the reader convinced, in turn, that she’s sweet, misunderstood, troubled, innocent, or guilty. In the end, it’s hard to know what version of the truth to believe, as we trawl through her past and slowly get a sense, often conflicting, of who Katherine grew up to be. Indeed, Katherine's story can often be compared to the conspiracy theories that she, at one stage, was caught up with; how quickly people can believe a truth that suits them and find a posse to validate it.
This story will keep you turning pages as you become determined to find out not only who Katherine truly is but also what happened on that fateful night, and why. Although the short chapters and alternating POVs keep things pacy, it can also make it hard to reconnect with each character's storyline as you need to cast your mind back constantly. Ultimately though, you'll be kept guessing as to how it all ends.

This book was written cleverly and gave me a different perspective to reading thrillers.
5 POV’s Father, school friend, journalist, lover and lawyer all deconstruct her character from their point of view trying to figure out if she did what she was accused of.
At first I was really confused about who is who. Too many people were introduced right from the start but once I got into the groove, I was hooked!
Until the very end I didn’t know whether she was guilty or not! Again cleaver ending that explained everything at the end.
I would highly recommend this thriller.

5 ⭐️ This book is so good I didn’t want to put it down! Written in alternating chapters of 5 different men in Katie’s life. It took me a bit to get used to the different voices, John, Kate’s Dad, Gabe, her best friend, Tarun, her attorney, Max, a reporter and her ex boyfriend Conrad. Each of these men sees her differently and through their eyes we begin to see who she is and what exactly happened.
There is a murder that Kate is arrested for. Did she do it? The story takes a back and forth telling, past and present with each of these characters. Once the trial starts things start to become clear. Add in a big twist and reveal and it’s a perfect ending!

An absolute page turned with many POVs and short quick chapters, it was so easy to devour.
I both listened to an read this. I loved the various versions of Katie as shared my the many characters. The audio production was superb, the full cast narration was top notch! The characters were brought to life by the superb narrators.

Our main character is a young woman who works as a waitress at a private club for the elite of London. On a night she was working, four men meeting together are killed and she becomes the prime suspect. As her lawyer tries to find out more information about her, he discovers what a complex person she is.
Her lawyer knows her as Katherine. Her dad knows her as Kit Kat, a girl who has struggled with loss and he’s always been protective towards her. Her childhood friend bonded with her over conspiracy theories and has always called her KC. The man who regrets getting involved with her called her Wildcat, and the journalist thinks of her as Killer Kat. It’s an interesting premise as we discover more about her and how so many people experienced her in such diverse ways. Is she innocent or guilty?

First time author for me. I saw a raving review by a respected reviewer on Goodreads and that made me want to read this book (thanks J). I started listening and it was a struggle based on voices and the story’s points of view. I decided to start it again via reading and it started to click. This book was one of those slow reads that I took my time because the short chapters of alternating characters was so effective. The author’s creativity was subtle but powerful by the end. I did end up listening at times during the re-read and it was fine after the story had clicked for me. Definitely one of my top reads of the year. I had seen so many fabulous reviews online for Her Many Faces I just had to get a copy and see for myself.. what a clever, twisty thriller that was anything but predictable. I flew through this once I started, short chapters had me reading past my bedtime.
This isn’t your typical thriller read. I loved the courtroom scenes where we learnt so much more about Katie. Who is Katie Cole? is she capable of the murder of 4 prominent businessmen? This story is told through the eyes of the men in her life, and none of them think the same way about her. Is she innocent or a good actr? Is she a con woman, a liar, a killer? i changed my mind so many times throughout the book, it was fabulous.

This was a tricky one for me because, despite differing opinions about the main character Katie, do we truly know the real person?
We know that there is the poisoning of four influential members of a private London club, leading to Katie’s arrest. When questioned, she delivers the damning words, “They deserved it.” The differing opinions stem from five men: her father, her friend, her lover, her lawyer, and a journalist. Each presents their own perspective, leaving the jury to unravel the mystery.
The story baffled me because I couldn’t definitively say whether she was guilty or not. Despite this, I found it addictive. I finished reading it a few days ago but only just started writing this review. It’s my first book by this author, and I’ll definitely explore more of her work.
