A heart that’s on the mend. A serial killer on the loose. A death that must be avenged.
Bryn Everly hasn’t really been living since her father Jack, the Chief of Police, died while trying to catch a serial killer. She’s merely been going through life’s motions. Living in the small, wine country town of Crystal Creek, Bryn buries her sadness by focusing on her work at the Crystal Creek Winery. Up until now, it’s been cruise control. That is, until handsome co-worker Julian and rich bad boy, Hudson each show signs that they’re interested in her, threatening Bryn to do something she hasn’t done in almost two years – feel.
When dead bodies begin to pile up again, killed in the same fashion as the case her father was working when he died, Bryn feels like she can’t just sit by and possibly become a victim. Bryn decides that the only ways she can make sure her father didn’t die in vain, is to solve the murders herself.

Pulse was gifted to me in return for an honest review.
Pulse is a new adult novella series centred around the heroine Bryn and her mission to find a murderer loose in her town.
Three young women have been killed and Bryn's father who was the chief of police died before solving the case. After being the one who found the latest victim and a request from a friend Bryn decides to start investigating herself.
This was a very, very short instalment. If I had sat down and read uninterrupted I would have finished it within an hour - easily. It's really just an introduction of characters, plot and history.
This has me really intrigued. I'm sure 'someone' who has moved back into the area is not a coincidence, but then again it's way too obvious, so I'm interested to see this series unravel.
This is a NA book and comes with a side of steam taking the heaviness out of the murder mystery. I'm going to be a little forward here and say I have a feeling I'll be team Hudson. There is something mysterious and cocky about him that appeals to me. Of course that might be because he could be a killer? Who knows - as it stands anyone's a suspect.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me interested and on the edge of my seat. It's well written and has a great storyline. My only issue was how short it is. I know it's a novella but I feel like I had just started to get into it and it was over. Though the author defenitly left us wanting more. I will continue to check out this series. I was left hanging and need to know what will happen next lol.
Overall I felt like, as part 1/3, the story was just getting started, and it's hard to know whether I'm going to love the entire thing based on just this. It did hold my interest, though, and I look forward to seeing what happens with the story. I definitely liked it, so far, and my rating may go up, depending on what happens in further episodes.
Despite not feeling connected to Bryn, the main character, I found this story to be fairly enjoyable (so far, this is part 1 of 3, I believe). I'm intrigued enough to pick up the next one, at least! Maybe I've just read too many stories with anxiety/depression ridden MCs lately, but that aspect of her personality did nothing for me, because I feel like she has potential for more (maybe that will be revealed later, too).
There are some things that I wish I knew more about already, Bryn's past and hobby especially. I also think this is something that might be highlighted as the story goes on, but I don't know yet, more on that later.
The circumstances around the murders in the town are interesting, and that is probably the thread of the story that I felt tugged me along the most.
Like everything else, the relationships were interesting, but it was too short to know really how they might develop. I felt like the suddenness of attraction between Bryn and her coworker was almost jarring, but if they've been working together for so long, maybe it wasn't. I have no idea what it's like to be an unmarried adult, so I may not be the best person to judge on that. Whether it was sudden or not, it was still pretty heart-thumping. I almost smell a feud boiling between the guys, and I want to know how that turns out, too.
I'm also left wanting to know about Bryn's friendship, can it be reconciled, or are they too different now?
Overall I enjoyed the story, and look forward to reading the next installment.
This NA mystery is spine chilling at times and core melting at others. Bryn Everly hasn’t been the same since her father died two years ago. Not even her super sexy co-worker, Julian Prescott, can make her come out of the shell she’s cocooned herself in. Until Hudson Kelly comes back into town, and a murder so similar to the ones that rocked her life to its foundation happens. Being so close to death again gives Bryn the push she needs to take a risk and tell Julian how she feels about him. Nicky coming back into town after the murder gives her the push she needs to get back to her old self. This is a must read, the twists will leaving you wanting more. I can't wait for the second installment.
This is the first in a serial novella series about a young girl named Bryn who works as a waitress and finds herself mixed up in a murder investigation. There's a lot going on but the writing is crisp and clear, the story fast paced and there are two gorgeous guys who might or might not be killers.
Really enjoyed this story, buying the next. Highly recommended.
This was really good. I was looking for a short serial killer romance and this totally delivered. However it does end on a cliff hanger and you will want to role into the next one.
Bryn has struggled a little bit since her dad was in an accident. She wants to start dating again and she has her eyes set on Julian.
While the romance storyline is happening, in the background we have a plot line with a serial killer on the loose.
