They say greed lit the match, that gold was at the root of this evil. The miners up near Devils Desk, Alaska, dug too deep, blasted too hard, and they broke something that can never be repaired. Quakes shattered ancient barriers creating a rift between worlds that had been sealed by an ancient race, and the domino effect of those first tremors rocked both the earth’s foundation and humanity’s.
Global devastation has brought an apocalypse, and the dwindling human race is forced to battle a vicious race of legendary monsters who are hellbent on their annihilation. Survival is no longer a right but a bloody fight.
Michael Talbot, his family and tribe (many of whom he has known in parallel existences), find sanctuary at the mansion of international billionaire, John “the Tripper” Stephenson. But as calls to arms become more difficult then impossible to ignore, they embark on a mission to lend aid to the last human holdout.
Tufo Didn’t waste any time getting into this story. Action right out of the gate from start to finish. Sets things up nice for #4. Looking forward to it. Was nice to see a lot of the gang together again and loved their banter and bond. Thanks for another great story Mark.
Devils Desk 3 delivers everything fans of post-apocalyptic fiction crave: gritty survival, high-stakes action, and a world teetering on the edge of chaos. Tufo keeps the tension high from page one, with characters who fight, scheme, and endure in a landscape that feels terrifyingly real. Fast-paced, gripping, and impossible to put down. A must-read for post-apocalyptic enthusiasts.
I loved this story. There is a ton of action, fantastic characters and banter, and ALL the humor!! If you know Mark's books, the gang is all here for this one, and I could not be more thrilled!!!
DD is actually my favorite Tufo series... But this latest installment coupled with the last two fallouts has me confused. Unpopular opinion incoming: What happened?! Maybe I was too distraught (personal trauma loading) to appreciate the greatness, the nuance, the blasts from the past ... But as a whole it just pissed me off. I love Mike's ramblings, that's why I'm still here. However, listening to my own intrusive thoughts is free of plenty and I don't need additional. I hear that Adderall is less than $30/month. Had Addy been present in the production of this installment, there could've been 50% more relevant action, plot tidying, and fun content without the xxl, neurospiciness.. And I get it, it's purposeful, it all connects, it links; blah, blah. Representation matters, and I adore his writings, but as someone who tends to be a touch spicy themselves, it can be distracting to the point of disappointing. I've tangented with you and now you expect me to rewind at your pace, pick up where we left off, AND remember the tangent for future reference?! Mike!!!. Stop playing wit me and just say the things! Keeping up with these stories is so fun and after 16 years, it's also expensive af, but here I am, committed. I just want to be sure that the next 16 are worth the stay.
I really love this series. Tufo has created some wonderful characters and put them into an absolutely horrendous situation—out in the middle of nowhere as civilization is brought down by extreme volcanic activity and millions of sasquatches trying to eat everyone. As in any good horror movie, much of the action is prompted by people being stupid. Our heroes are not stupid, but a significant percentage of the people around them are, and they have to deal with the consequences.
There is also the problem of humans who just aren't with the program (i.e. out for themselves when the whole race is in danger of extinction). I thought Tufo also did a great job with making these people unlikeable and a serious problem while not being nearly as dangerous as the monsters.
The book ends with our heroes approaching a new arc in the story which I am anxious to see what Tufo will do with.
Looks like Mr. Tufo plans to keep the yetti apocalypse going with a 4th book. This might be the end of the road for me though. While it is still fun and entertaining…it’s getting redundant. As always, I love Trip, BT, and Mike Talbot’s characters. Their banter makes the story. I especially enjoyed the snippets of the yeti’s pov. I was also happy that Gus made his appearance accompanied by his brother!
Finished the end of this trilogy; I expect that's the end of the series. Satisfying and enjoyable for Tufo fans (like me); definitely leans into the shared knowledge his faithful readers have. Not his best work, but still perfectly entertaining. Enjoyed all the callbacks to previous storylines and character versions.
I always love diving into Talbots's world. I miss them when I finish reading. Didn't consider Yeti to be this mean but we humans are much worse. Just writing!
Really enjoying this series. Maybe the first or second book I was starting to lose interest but as I kept going, I kept getting more interested. Looking forward to reading the next book.
I had forgotten that I preordered Devils Desk 3 and I was overjoyed when it appeared on my kindle. This was a fun, exciting read and I hope the series continues!
