Lucy’s life is a mess. Will a reality TV show about love set in a beautiful Scottish castle help her find some answers or cause even more heartache and problems?
Lucy’s life is a mess. It’s official. Her ex just walked out on his wedding, telling everyone it’s because he’s still in love with Lucy. Now, she’s on the town’s most hated list, even though she’s the innocent party in this whole dreadful wedding day fiasco. Desperate for a place to escape to while the dust dies down, Lucy gets the chance to stay in a luxury castle in the Scottish Highlands - for free. The catch? She has to be a last-minute replacement contestant on a reality TV series about relationships being filmed at the impressive Arknavie Castle and Country Estate.
With her ex pursuing her across the country, the TV cameras making her nervous, the other contestants full of gossip and trouble and a handsome and secretive Scottish laird thrown into the mix, Lucy's life could be about to spiral even further out of control!

Zanna Mackenzie lives in the UK with her husband, 3 dogs, a vegetable patch that’s home to far too many weeds and an ever expanding library of books waiting to be read.
Being a freelance writer and editor of business publications is her ‘day job’ but, at every opportunity, she can be found scribbling down notes on scenes for whatever novel she’s working on. She loves it when the characters in her novels take on minds of their own and start deviating from the original plot!
Formerly a travel agent and therapist (she has qualifications in clinical aromatherapy, crystal healing, naturopathic nutrition and herbalism) she loves walking the dogs and gardening – that’s when she’s not writing or reading!
A sweet romance that will make you smile and cry. You just can't put this book down once you start!
Once you start this sweet romance with real characters you can't put it down! I loved Faith who after being so hurt in the past by an old boyfriend decided that her work in the successful cafe she owns is the only distraction she needs. She is still very skittish and careful around men and puts up the roadblocks if she feels her resolve slipping. That is until a new business owner, Zane comes to town to open an outdoor adventure businesss with his business partner (athough the partner is still behind at their old job sorting things out for a while). There seems to be some electricity floating through the air between the two of them, although Zane seems to be holding back something. These two people and all their problems are further exacerbated when Zane's business partner, Matt shows up. Just who is Matt? That is a real twist to the storyline and the ups and downs had me actually tearing up at times. This is a sweet romance dealing in personalities and getting past old baggage. I LOVED this story and will definitely read more by this author. Her writing is easy to read and you will want to finish it in one sitting! I received and ARC from the author, but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own!
Didn't love this one. I did not like either of the men characters at all. Matt was pretty slimy and Zane needed therapy. Faith was okay but since I didn't like who she was in love with it made it hard to want her to win in that relationship. The book contained a lot of British slang and spellings that could have been fun for me except sometimes I just wondered if it was a typo instead. There is a lot of sexual thought and activity though none of it is graphically described. We just know it is going on. It includes though isn't limited to marital infidelity and closed door sex. The author purposely lets the reader know that both Matt and Zane have something in their past that is weighing heavily on them and motivates their bad or odd behavior. It takes most of the story for it to come to light, even to the reader. But when it finally did, I felt like Matt's situation pretty much just made him seem slimier and Zane's problem was just odd to me. I mean, I get the angst that would go with it but I didn't see why he needed to keep it a secret from Faith. So in the end, I just didn't care about him or their relationship. And so much of their attraction just seemed physical with no real depth. In short this book was a no-go for me.
Awesome read. Similar vibes to books by Jane Green. How two hurt souls come together and banish their demons. Great characters and I loved the way the hero showed his emotions and hurt. She had been alone for a while. Ever since her long term boyfriend had cheated on her at university. Now the successful cafe was her whole life. That is until Zane walked in. He and his partner Matt had bought the adventure centre and he was here early to clear all the glitches he could before his partner arrived. Their relationship seems solid until his partner turns up and lo and behold it's her old boyfriend. Will the two make it? What is Matt hiding and why is he making a play for her? What demons are riding Zane and why won't he talk about his mother?
I kept expecting for the book to pick up and get interesting. At the end of my read I felt like a whole lot of nothing happened. I wasn't a fan of any of the main male characters. Matt was nothing but an annoyance and Zane was too indecisive to be endearing. The story-line had a lot of potential what with a gossipy town, "hot" male characters and a chance at love. Too much of nothing in the relationship made this too dull for me.
Zany has met Faith when he moved into a new town to start a new outdoor center. They clicked so easily and quickly and just as fast they weren’t together. Faith was at a loss as to what happened. Faith’s old boyfriend Aaron turns out to be Zane’s business partner and now goes by the name Matt. This completely throws a wrench into Zane and his ability to trust.
Now you have to read to find out what else goes on. I’m sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did.
This is the first time reading this author. The main character is Faith. She owns a cafe in a small town and meets Zane who is starting up a fitness center in the area. Both of them have had problems with relationships before and are not looking for one. It takes both of them by surprise. Then Faith's first love who broke her heart shows up and the mix is a mess. Can they figure out what to do next ?
The story is about second chances for love. Each of them had been hurt by their past. When they met it seems the they both felt an electrical charge go thru them. But with both being closed off to any emotional connections they were having a hard time. When she finds out that her ex is his business partner things seem to not work out. Can they get their own happy ending? Or will they end up alone?
I loved Faith and Zane's story. Even getting the tid bits of Matt's involvement and getting to find some of his side story with his wife, Karo. It all worked out well, you got me with the ending, but I won't give it away...you'll have to read it for yourself.😀
I’m not sure I really had the time to spend all day reading this book today, but I did. I couldn’t stop. I was totally pulled into the story and had to find out how it would end. No spoilers here, but I’m happy with the ending. I’m just sorry that work is over!
I enjoyed this book and the many references to the landscape and town, a mecca for climbing enthusiasts and other outdoor sports. It took a long time for the guy Faith fell in love with to get over his hangups and trust that she wouldn't leave him. I had a hard time relating.
Such a beautiful heart felt story. Three people intertwined with each other, and each with relationship problems of their own. Everyone can find a little of themselves, or someone they know in this story of betrayal, mistrust, heartbreak, and love. All along you cheer for each of them in their own way. A must read. Highly recommended.
This was an extremely drawn out depressing read. When I thought two people couldn't cross any more wrong thoughts and misunderstandings, I was proven wrong. This is written in a strange combination of Australian, British, and Boho. Stranger yet it has a sort of HEA without a real ending. This was read under the title of The Cafe of Broken Hearts. There is some sort of wires crossed.
I found the characters in this book rather annoying, so struggled to even finish reading it.
Would have given it 2 stars, but the extra star was given because - for once - the 'love interest' came from the world of 'extreme sports', instead of the Police or Fire Service!
Zanma Mackenzie is one of my favorite authors. I love her mystery novels, but I didn't like this one very much. Zanna is a wonderful mystery writer, but I just didn't like her romantic novel.
I'm not sure I would call this a comedy because there was way more drama than laughter. At times I just wanted to shake the stuffing out of the characters just to get them to spill their secrets.
A delightful modern romance. Interesting location; rural England. Two young people who own businesses fall in love. But he carries so much emotional baggage, he breaks up. Other characters are interesting in their own right.
She runs a cafe in her hometown, he’s starting a new recreation company. They meet, instant attraction. But both have been really hurt and have trust issues. His are worse and he backs off, Will he realize that love can heal.
A generally sweet read. It was a bit slow going at the start, but eventually the pace picked up. I wasn't a fan of the way in which going from Faith to Zane's views was used here.
