Storm Clouds

Before there can be fire, there must be air…

Like his brothers, Ilmir is a dragon born by blood magic. Unlike them, he has an unrelenting thirst for human blood. His one and only scruple: he will never bite a woman he loves. It would kill her, and her loss would drive him mad.

Yet over the years, a young girl he once rescued and brought to the Isle has grown into a woman who occupies too much of his mind and heart.

On her name day, Astrid makes her two most heartfelt wishes: to experience the delights of the city, and to bring the vexing Ilmir back to the Zir family fold. As her wishes drop from her lips, lightning cracks and she discovers she is a weather witch—one in need of serious training to control her powers.

But her goal to redeem Ilmir is fraught with peril, for her deep need to learn the magical language not only awakens the dragon’s passion, it creates a perfect storm of danger that could cost the life of the man she loves.

Warning: This novel contains explicit sex, weather witches, vampires, a super-hot air dragon, and a woman who can wrap him up in a spell.

Why you should read it: This is an interesting series for me. I'll admit at first that the language and narration can be a bit stilted, but I read it as if it were a Regency (which it sort of is), with the "proper" ladies and gentlemen, and the narrative seemed to become more smooth. I've been waiting for Astrid's story because of Ilmir. He kills, and while he's a bit sad that that is how he is, he makes no apologies. And the two together? I loved reading the scenes between them — who shall pretend to be the least affected as their steam grows? This is a fun series for dragon lovers who want a bit of "proper" narrative with paranormal elements thrown in. I feel for each brother and enjoy their mates, whom fate has decreed would be theirs.

I got the book from the author and Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock in exchange for an honest review.

Storm Clouds is the third book in the series Dragon’s Fate. Even though it can be read as a standalone, I hugely recommend you to read the first two books of the series or, at the very least, the first one in order to understand some events that happen in the book, the background of some of the characters and the relationships between them. I read this book as a standalone and at some point the story became a little confusing but you can still understand the main idea of it.

This series tell the story of elemental dragon or Zir brothers and how they come to find their mates. Each book of the series talks about a different brother and in Storm Clouds, the author narrates us the story of Ilmir, a Zir whose element is the air. Unlike his brothers, he doesn’t feel guilt because of the deaths he causes while feeding and that had pushed him farther apart from his family but what he ignores is that during her name-day Astrid, the child he saved and brought to his family years ago, wished for something that will change not only his fate but the entire family’s forever.

The story was fast paced but I must admit that in the middle of the book I got confused with some magical terms and other things that the author used. Leaving that aside, I loved Astrid’s character. She is a kind woman that wants to bring the family together once again but I thought that she was a little foolish for being so trusting. I was seriously frustrated with her for spying on Ilmir and his “feeding” partner and I was disappointed in her when she caused an accident for trusting a stranger way too much. I won’t specify what happened there though; you would have to read the book to find about. I understand why Ilmir’s family are worried because there seems to be something between him and Astrid but I think it is rather cute that he is starting to admit, even though he always knew, and confront his interest in her. One of my favorite parts of the book was a jealousy scene. Well, it borders the wall between concern for Astrid and jealousy because of the presence of way to nice and charming warlock in Astrid’s life.

The story mixed too much magical themes to the point that I wasn’t able to immerse myself into the novel. I liked the author’s ideas but the novel didn’t connect them in a way that they could peacefully coexist and support each other. There are also some references to characters that I didn’t quite understand and that slow me down while reading the story. Therefore, I truly recommend reading the first books of the series before this one. In addition to that, I finished the book in the blink of an eye and it seems I ended up with more questions than I had at the beginning of it. I felt that it ended way too fast and with a not so strong cliffhanger.

In conclusion, I think this book is good for the entertainment of young adults, mostly. Older readers can read it too but the action scenes are almost nonexistent and the language used is appropriate for younger ones. The book contains some sexual scenes, all consented, therefore I doubt anyone under 17 or 18 should read it.

***Disclaimer: I received a copy in exchange for a review.***

In this third book, we get to see more of Ilmir- the enigmatic one of the group and what makes him tick. We also get to delve a little more into the inner workings of the women of the Zir family, but so much still remains unexplained that it's not as engaging as it could be. It's also more titillating than erotic; Astrid sets her sights on Ilmir, who's had his eye on her for some time as well, but their romance- like the story itself- feels rushed and stilted. Author Lacy Danes has created an intriguing world but never seems to take the time she needs to properly set things up so you feel connected to it.
