Cities on the brink. A prison shattered by violence. Sisters separated by more than miles.
A day after a massive solar storm destroys the nation’s power grid, Willa walks into the husk of Wellington Women’s Prison confronted by the remains of a justice system torn apart. As she steps over debris and dead bodies, she’s convinced she’ll never see her sister alive again. She’s a breath away from heartbreak.
Nic’s fulfilled his promise—he’s delivered Willa to the prison and helped her navigate the wrecked halls. Now he’s itching to head south and save his elderly father before the rapidly spreading disaster claims another victim. But the roads are treacherous, gas is in short supply, and people are growing desperate.
Ava might be alive, but at a cost she never expected to pay. With no power and no rules, she’s learning fast to keep her friends close and her enemies closer. She’ll do what it takes to survive, even if it means sacrificing her integrity to do it. It’s a race against the clock to find Nic’s father, survive the growing anarchy, and reunite the Rane sisters before they lose the one thing keeping them hope.
Ready Set Rush is book two in Ready Set Chaos, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people struggling to survive when an EMP plunges the United States into chaos.
Wow…the world really fell apart fast. So sad. The two main characters, Nic and Willa, are very likable and both dedicated to finding their families. Ava, Willa’s sister, left during the prison riot with a pretty bad group. She’s scared and lost. She wants to run away, but the leader, Mouse, has a gun and will use it. She wants to use Ava and won’t let her go.
There were some disturbing scenes and some really sad moments. I can’t even imagine the world going crazy so fast. Good people, desperate people and selfish people, all doing things they never imagined to survive.
If you like Apocalyptic Survival Thrillers then I definitely recommend checking this series out. I’m not sure when book three releases, but I’m dying to read it and see what happens next!!
And boring. Half the book is spent searching a nursing home with tiresomely repetitive what-if ruminations by the uninteresting characters. The other half is spent describing a boring road trip with occasional rote meaningless encounters which do nothing to advance the very thin plot. Little victim sister Ava is so helpless and weak it’s impossible to care what happens to her. The contrived scene where she becomes accessory to murder is unbelievable. The baddies could have ambushed the guy just as well without her involvement. Not wasting any more time on this series.
Ready Set Rush is the 2nd book in the Ready Set Chaos series and picks up right where Ready Set Chaos ends, with Nice and Will a in a barn after a restless night of sleep and Ava trapped with Mouse and the other women she escaped prison with when the CME hit. The writing is top notch, with excellent characters, perfect plotting and excellent, self sacrificing characters. There are successes and horrors, I'm not going to spoil it for you, just read and enjoy the book, especially if you are into survival thrillers! 5/5 stars!
This continues a decent series. The writing and editing are both good and some of the description of societal descent into anarchy is quite vivid. It was easy to have some frustration of people, like FEMA, who wouldn’t recognized how disaster had changed life as usual, but then we had the nursing home workers and pastors who tried so long to help. I’m just not a fan of prisoners being a major part of the story and the constant angst from both Ava and Wills was wearying.
This novel needs a senior perspective. Assumed is the idea that survival is all that matters. I wonder choose thusly faced with this new world order. How many would how many would choose to simply take. No one seeks to rebuild. Sure, it’s easier to rake, but some would choose another course.
Still hanging in there and committed to finishing the series, but I’m still on the fence with how I feel about this one overall. For some reason, I’m feeling a disconnect with the mc’s (Willa, Nic and Ava).
