From the moment she’d been turned into Mortis, Natalie Pierce had been fated to come face to face with the first vampire ever created. Hideously transformed over thousands of years by the diseased blood that runs through his veins, the First had created an army of grey skinned imps. His plan is to enslave humanity and to turn them into a vast herd of cattle to feed his offspring.
Nat and her friends are all that stands between the humans and the bat faced, orange eyed imps. Aside from the overwhelming odds against them, Natalie foresaw an even bigger danger. As vampires, they were all highly susceptible to becoming possessed by their shadows. Once that happened, they could then be turned into imps by the First. Luc, Geordie, Igor and Gregor would be doomed from the instant they set foot inside the First’s lair.
A recent prophecy had foretold that an army would come to Natalie’s aid. With many of her new kin already possessed by their shadows, Nat was uncertain where this mystery army would come from. She could only hope that the prophecy would come true. If it didn’t, she would be facing the First and his growing army of ravenous offspring alone.
I began reading horror and paranormal books when most girls my age were still reading fairy stories. I always dreamed that one day I would be able to write stories that readers could become lost in.
The Mortis, Shifter Squad, Hellscourge and Fate's Warriors series are connected, but can be read as stand alone series. The overarching theme about Fate's chosen champions will come to an end with my fifth series; Loki's Exile.
My sixth series, Hunter Elite, begins a new saga with the seventh series, Half Fae Hunter, as a spin off.

Oh good grief, will Natalie never get a break from saving the world!!! I feel so bad for her! At least she has backup now and is not doing this all on her own...I am still disturb with whole fact of her being able to detach and use her limbs in that mode to do her bidding, just not normal, lol!! If you haven't started this series I would highly recommend you do, definitely won't be disappointed!!
the never ending doom of it all without even a little bit of happy celebration has exceeded my limit with this last book. I know there are two or three more of this series left but i'm done.
While Nat and friends continue to good company the blood and gore and Nat’s frequent dismemberments are growing old. This novel winds up the first story arc of this nine-novel series, and it is both satisfying and not. Her interactions with her shadows are often very funny as are her inner dialogues, but her relationships with those closest to her are static. She gets her prophesied army to go up against the First and his imps, but at great cost. While I bought the next trilogy of books in the series, I need a break from it. I have a feeling without one, the repetitiousness of certain aspects could get tedious, and I want to enjoy the craziness that is Natalie Price.
Dnf’d. This is about the last time I’m accepting her being all limbless and miraculously coming together again.
Even other books that are paranormal and wacky still have some sort of realism that makes you believe in the magic system- follow the story. HOW MANY TIMES is she going to be detached from her own body and have them re-attached. It’s actually pissing me off at how dumb it is and the worst part is there’s so many books in this effing series. This will probably continue to happen every chapter in the following books so bye.
Just one, I thought to myself; then just two... Now 've finished reading the third in this series and me is already suffering withdrawal. Well, there's nothing else for it, I must rush and get book 4!
I think I reached my max enough is enough WE GET YOU CANT CRY AND YOURE COLD PLEASE STOP REPEATING YOURSELF J J J J J LORD (get what I did?) okay yea I’m not finishing this I tried to battle through the first 2 books but I’m through
I braved through these books with the hope that it might get better, but after three books, the story just seems to be dragging.(hope i don't sound too harsh)
My main problem with the series is as follows. 1 Natalie's character development seems juvenile. Most of the time i felt like she's was fifteen year old that was in need of some parental guidance
2 No character development for any other character's in the books: Luc, enough said. (even the general had more character than this guy and he has been around for 3 books {give or take 99% of book two} he felt more like an object used to satisfy her lust than a real character)
3 Plot: The plot is fine for the most part but it could have been developed further {IN OTHER WORDS} Good plot that lost its way. There is never any bright spots for Nat which i found to be a real problem after book two and it seems that too many things pop up at the end.
4 Writing: one of the biggest challenges of getting through this book was the writing. It was just too basic and as a result the world development suffered as well.
Those were my major problems with this books. Knowing i wasn't going to read much further than this i read the blurbs for the six books in the series, my verdict? Refer to point number 3 above.
I know I’m not an author and getting books published must be hard so I’m not trying to put the books down. I just feel that the full potential of the books were not reached and the story could have been told better.
Natalie has started to have visions about what the First looks like. Sadly, he's aware that she's there, even if it's just in her dreams.
The First is starting to call on more of the damned vampires, those who shadows move on their own or have taken over their host. He's turning them into bat faced, orange eyed, imp like creatures. They're large and love to kill.
Natalie has multiple shadows from each vampire blood she has ingested. Sadly, they're starting to move on her own.
Natalie and her friends try to find the First, but he's hiding himself from her. Natalie can't sense him, so she seeks one of the damned vampires that's being held captive by the American army. The army locks her up as well, but she finds a way out.
Now she has to try to get the army to agree to work with her on taking the First down.
Book 3 is good, but it moved a bit slow for me. While I still very much enjoy the series, the Shifter Squad series was much better in my opinion. Book 3 neatly wraps up Nat's first major challenge as Mortis, and leads off to the next quest for the fight against evil and world domination. Given this series was the first and was followed up by the Shifter Squad, and then Hellscourage's series, I can tell Diem improves story telling with each book. I am thinking of take a breather before moving on to bundles 2 and 3 of the Mortis series. I will absolutely finish it and then move to the third series, but hopefully by taking a short hiatus, I can come back refreshed and ready to finish, as well as buy some time for the 3rd series to finish up since all of the series' intertwine.
Ok, the Mortis Series officially has a rabid fan! Book 3 is full of action, suspense, intrigue, love, and there are new bad guys to deal with. As with books 1 and 2 in this series, I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. I can't give anything away, but the end of DD leaves you hanging, desperate for the next book, with the promise of a bigger, more dangerous enemy on the horizon. Bring on the fourth book!
This third book knocks the first two out. It was amazing with loads of action and adventure. You get to see Nat in full action. The dialogue the author created for the characters interactions were hilarious. I found myself laughing out loud when reading and having my husband look at me like I had lost it. Once again amazingly awesome work. Now onto the next.
I like that this author is not afraid to get down & dirty & even a little ugly with her vamps. This has a modern & original twist to an old school idea.
Speechless, I mean i knew she was good. but she keeps getting better. i knee she was gonna stop their plans. but that just opened another box of chaos. I'm right there tagging along to their danger.
