Raymond Finkle is a physician who lives in New England. He wrote The Mendelian Protocol in 2005 during medical school. He decided to revive his writing career in 2020 because it was such a great year, all around, that it just seemed like the thing to do. He released the Insanity Criterion, also a sci-fi medical thriller, in October 2020. His third book The Armageddon Prophecy should be out before the end of 2020. It is not sci-fi. He is currently working on his fourth book, a mystery set on Nantucket Island in the 1980s. His short story collection Three Stories is available on Amazon. This book contains three short stories of mixed genres.
The first story is called “Letter to the Editor…” it stars a Sherrif who has to investigate the murder of a young woman. The mystery has a big surprise.
The next story is “We’re the Aliens.” Lynn and her boyfriend Fletcher are on a hiking trip with some friends. Things become desperate when unidentified flying objects are seen traveling in the sky.
They read on their phones that alien technology has people behaving violently towards others.
And in “Evening Paddling,” Sean and his kayak are traveling when the boat takes on water and starts to sink. He makes it to land and that’s all I understand about this story.
Maybe someday, someone can read it and explain to me what’s going on because I have no idea.
Well, these are the three stories. The first two are excellent and they deserve five stars, but the third story is a challenge to comprehend, so I take a star away for that.
Hope you will enjoy the book better than I have. Good luck.
In Three Stories by Raymond Finkle, he collects three scary short stories for the Halloween season. The 50-page booklet was released in October of this year, 2020. I received it free on Amazon in exchange for a fair review.
The first story is written in the form of ‘A letter to the editor discovered in a dusty lockbox in the cellar’. It is about a sheriff in the 1920s investigating a wealthy woman’s death that looks like it could be murder. The second story is about a group of young people hiking through the mountains, when an apocalyptic event occurs. ‘We’re the Aliens’ is a cool short story, the best of the bunch IMHO. The last story is ‘Evening Paddle,’ an introspective little tale that I think is the weakest in the bunch. I had never read this author before, but I believe the author shows promise. As a teacher, I was impressed with the linguistic flourishes. Not a bad three story anthology compilation.
I loved the book! It has, as the title says, Three Stories. They were well written and made me think. Two of the stories were kinda like mysteries to me. Which would be the first and second stories. They actually made me think. The third story has to be a favorite of mine. If it don't make me think then it's a favorite of mine. Wonderful short stories and a fast read.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily leaving a review
"Three Stories" is just that -- three carefully crafted short stories with strange twists. I found the first two both more interesting and scarier than the third. All three would be perfect for an autumn night in front of a fire.
