If pain built character, then Champion Halo is a damn Greek tragedy with tattoos and a Glock. This man? Lord. He out here trying to keep his siblings fed, his people safe, and his feelings locked down tighter than a Rikers cell. But then come Nitalia Frye with her fine lil’ detective self, marching in on the opposite side of the law like she wasn’t sent to dismantle his whole world and accidentally tap dance on his heart.
This book gave everything—hood loyalty, trauma bonding, legal tension, and “I don’t trust you but I’m lowkey in love with you” vibes that had me cheesin’ and stressin’ at the same time. Champion is a BOSS in every sense. The way he handles business? Lethal. The way he protects his people? Deadly. The way he peeps Nitalia’s every move like she’s both the threat and the prize? Baby, I had to fan myself.
And let’s be real: Nitalia was NOT ready for all that Alpha energy. She pulled up tryna protect her heart like a shield, but Champion looked at that shield like it was a suggestion. The tension between them? Let’s just say if I had a dollar for every time they almost kissed, I’d be typing this from a beachfront property with Dallas McQueen grilling steak shirtless.
The plot? Full of backstabbers, unsolved mysteries, and folks who clearly don’t value their life trying Champion’s patience. And let’s not forget the emotional weight—this wasn’t just a romance. It was a fight for peace, for loyalty, and for a second chance at something real in a world where “real” gets you killed.
By the end, I was screaming at the book like it owed me money and an emotional support hotline. Champion had me ready to join the crew and risk a felony charge if it meant protecting my people like he did.
Final grade? 5 stars. 3 bullets. 1 Gangsta ass thorough bitch! And a whole lot of feelings I was NOT prepared to catch.
M. Monique really snapped on this one. I don’t know what’s in her pen, but it’s clearly dipped in pain, pressure, and passion. Don’t read this book unless you ready to feel it in your chest, your gut, and maybe your lower regions too.

The Champ
This was such a great read. I must say though this book is a prime example of why you should read things in order. A lot of things came into focus when I read this. I loved the development of the story it was beautiful. A Gripping Tale of Crime, Loyalty, and Unexpected Alliances In M. Monique's latest masterpiece, "Heart of a Champion; Soul of a Boss," readers are taken on a riveting journey through the lives of two compelling characters, Champion Halo and Nitalia Frye. Now, I've been sipping my water and reading this series, but I have to stop ✋🏾 and comment cause WTH??!!
I am trying to wrap my head around WHYYYY M. Monique would put so much energy in developing Toshi's character to....🫳🏾 do my girl like that? I feel so 😪 wronged!!! I don't think I've ever been made to feel that way b4 in a book!
OAN: The series definitely picks up here. For as fine and capable as Dallas is, his books left me wanting.
I did love that the author/ characters were talking to us throughout the book. That was entertaining.
I found it was a stretch trying to make the relationship between Nitalia, Gatah, his brother, Stephan, and wives considering how they met. They had no other connection or history to tie the storylines or alleged bonds.
M Monique must be hella young cause she keeps referencing everyone over 40 as old.

The intrigueeee!!!
I’ve so far found this series to be pretty easy reading with enough action and drama to be page-turning and with some suspense, but not so intense that you’re worried for the characters. With this one, I was worried for the characters. The snake in the grass here was pretty obvious but it took Champion a long time to figure it out and meanwhile Nita for all her confidence and general badassery was wayyyy to insecure about being the drama and pulling threads together for Champion to open his eyes. I did enjoy them together although they had less on-page time as a couple than previous MC’s have had. Nita clearly had a lot to deal with at the end of the book with learning about her father and brothers and that was rushed through somewhat. Nonetheless, the author’s doing a great job with this series overall and making me as a reader care about the broader ensemble and want to read more.

They way she writes a man!
This is one of my faves. I loved it the 1st times and rereading it as a Re-Release I stand by that decision! Champion and them damn golds will do it every time you hear me. Nita, as the FMC, was everything her strength complimented her feminity so well. The way her character tied the friend group together was so well done. We mystery, hood sh$+, found family, black love, & back breaking. What more could you need!!!

Secrets Will Be Unveiled

The story plot was so good and really keeps the reader intrigued. The story line was so interesting throughout especially when the secrets were revealed and things hit the fan. I only wish Champion did some groveling at the end but overall I’m satisfied! 💖
