Do you believe in ghosts? Misty would’ve answered no, but that was before her father died. Now, she isn't so sure.
In the aftermath of a disastrous childhood, Misty did the only thing she could. She ran far away from her abusive father. Now that he’s dead, she learns that their connection has not been severed the way she expected. She soon realizes that death is not as final as she thought it was.
During an unfortunate mishap while trying to communicate with the dead, Misty is overwhelmed by the ghosts around her. She looks for help in every direction as death tries to pull her in. She eventually learns about someone else watching, waiting, and that someone may have answers to questions she is too afraid to ask.
In the end, only she can decide where to place her trust and how far she is willing to go to understand what is happening to her.
What would it take to make you believe?
The Haunted is the first book in the Glimmer series.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked up this book. It didn’t help that I found the first half of the novel to be very slow; not enjoyable as I thought it would be. A couple of times I even thought about chucking it. However, there was something about the story and the protagonist, Misty, that kept me reading on. Then, mid-way thru the novel the story picks up, totally capturing my attention. I’m so engrossed in it that next thing I know, I’m done. “OMG!” It can’t be done. I need to know what happens. Quickly searching Amazon for the next book in the series, only to realize it has not yet been published. Crap!
Misty, the protagonist of the story, is a very complex and likeable individual. She’s suffered unbelievable acts of abuse by her father that started when she was four years old, only to end when she left home at 18. Only her sister, Vivian, and her brother, Daniel, are privy to the abuse she suffered. You would expect her to be weak and timid because of her past, but instead she’s strong and independent, enjoying her career as a teacher. At times it seems that Misty doesn’t even realize how strong she is, but that starts to change. It’s when her father dies that unexplainable events start to occur around her and in her home, and then following her wherever she goes. She can’t help but think this all has to do with her father. As time goes on Misty questions her sanity; not knowing what’s real and what’s not. Her siblings don’t believe her. They think she needs serious psychiatric help. Feeling alone with all the chaotic madness around her, she perseveres.
Dusti Reynolds has written a simple mysterious, paranormal story. She doesn’t go overboard with needless descriptions of the events taking place; nor does she list every minute detail the character acts upon. (I wish other authors would do this). I revel how the author threw in some twists and turns, keeping me guessing as to which direction the story was heading. I was quite intrigued (and surprised) as to the way it ended.
So, even though I found the first half to be slow, I still give it 4 stars. I’m just glad I kept on reading, not chucking it like I was so close to doing. Now the waiting begins with the next book in the series.
Interesting idea, but it becomes bogged down with the turmoil of Misty's life; after a while it's like, enough already I know! The scary ghostly parts are very effective though, loved those. More time should've been spent on characterization. Now, the ending: What? Really?
I enjoyed the book and know it's the first in the series. But felt the ending really left you hanging. The authors website doesn't have anything listed about when the next book will be out.,
