Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
Whether you are a believer or atheist, this book uses scripture and extensive research and study to answer various questions expounds on a variety of subjects concerning heaven and eternity. Fast paced and informative, heaven is not the dull, endless eternity some believe it to be but a new adventure with endless possibilities and never-ending joy and thrills.
“The very things which make this life difficult-sorrow, pain, death- should serve as reminders that we, as believers, are not home yet.”
This book is so beautiful and really made me ever more excited to go Home one day! I love how David Jeremiah didn’t wander from Scripture but used Scripture on every page of this book! My only complaint is that it’s a really small book which means that the pages aren’t very long- but they’re impactful which is what counts! I didn’t know this was a mini devotional until I got it in the mail! Perfect read to clear up some questions about our eternal Home, and it’s a perfect read in the park devotional! I love the Scripture guide at the end of the book too! Praise Jesus for all He has done so that I can live with Him forever!
I enjoyed reading the answers to some of the questions I had had myself. He's a great pastor and speaker. My grandmother had given me a lot of book by him and can't wait to read them.
There was a lot of stuff here. Some of it was very good and encouraging. But a lot of it is also the author's own personal opinion, which is as valid as anyone else's. But when people speak as though they have all the answers, it sometimes makes me suspicious.
There are LOADS of scriptural references. The subject matter is very interesting. The author's theology seems to be a good bit more evangelical than mine. So someone more like minded may look at this with breathless wonder and loud shouts of acclamation. For me, it was a relatively short diversion, but there were a few good insights that I will think on further.
4.5. I listened to the audio book on this one, since I loved “Angels” so much. This one was such an easy listen and I didn’t want to shut it off. The only thing is, that the chapter on Angels was verbatim to a chapter in his Angels book. Heaven is going to be glorious. My little human brain can’t possibly understand, but he has answered some of my questions, biblically, and made me understand things differently about what happens when we die as believers. I never thought of myself as “immortal,” but truly, we really are.
I’m going to be seeking more of his books, and maybe even his Bible studies.
Good book on biblical answers to questions about heaven, angels, afterlife, etc.
Although, really surprised and disheartened that there wasn't a section explaining Revelation 21, i.e. heaven coming down to meet earth. NT Wright's Surprised by Hope would be helpful to read here.
Fair warning: Pastor Jeremiah notes that premillianlism is the oldest view on the millennium in John's revelation, but does not distinguish between Historic Premillennialism and Dispensational Premillenialism. You can see the comparison chart here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premill...
I liked everything about this book because everything is backed up by the written word of God. I, myself can hardly wait to get to Heaven and explore and enjoy ALL that our Lord has prepared for us. I recommend this book TO ALL who have ANY DOUBTS or even the unbeliever because after death or the Rapture..you are going to be in Heaven or hell and IF LEFT BEHIND, the worst kind of wrath of GOD unimaginable. There is STILL TIME...GET RIGHT WITH OUR LORD. AFTER THAT LAST TRUMPET..you'll wish you had..God Bless You All !
There were times this book comforted me, and times it made me want to stop and read the book of Revelation. I will... and then, I'll re-read this book. I wanted to buy it for friends whose loved ones have passed away. Although some parts were a bit challenging for me, I appreciate the wisdom and confidence I received from a lot of what I read...
I like how he described angels. Sometimes people talk about their guardian angel so much you'd think they were worshiping angels instead of God. I also like how he used Scripture to clarify some things that you hear a lot around Christians.
I loved this book. This was the first book I’ve annotated just because I wanted to be able to go back to it and look at it if I forgot about anything or wanted to re-read something I enjoyed. This definitely clears up a lot of questions about heaven and I really enjoyed and loved this read!
Amazing how David Jeremiah explains scriptures and what they mean. Easy to read and understand. I highlighted words and phrases that stood out to me, and I plan to read this book again.
Revelations was confusing to me. Dr Jeremiah bring a better understanding of Gods words. His explanations make it easier for me and he always refers to Scripture to back up his statements.
This book makes you stop and think. I have many questions about God and what our afterlife will be like. I especially like the fact that the answers came directly from the Bible.
Really gave me a new insight on heaven what my grandma’s new home is like. I’m glad I read it. It was a quick and easy read and I needed that right now.
This is a great summary of Dr. Jeremiah’s Heaven series. I would suggest listening to those sermons for greater detail. This book is a good reference to have.
What an amazing read! Many of my questions about Heaven were answered in this book. I guess we won't really know until we get there but it sure is fun to speculate.
