Subtle Powers: A High Fantasy Adventure

Rate this book
As new threats emerge, Socks and Dirt face the deepening mysteries of the world in the latest installment of this epic fantasy.

After a summer of adventure, Socks must return to Father to make an accounting of himself. It’s time to justify what he’s been up to and demonstrate that he remains the predator he was born to be. Failure to meet expectations could easily mean death.

Meanwhile, Dirt continues to receive special tutoring from the trees, which comes with its own set of dangers. They’re teaching him to speak with beings who dwell beyond perception, hopefully without accidentally getting himself killed. It’s proving to be no easy task.

After Dirt and Socks rescue a young woman, her tribe—primitive horsemen who live in an ancient fort—refuse to take her back. Dirt must tread carefully, because not everything is as it seems. The tribe’s ancient entanglements might run deeper than anyone realizes.

The enemies of mankind never rest in the Land of Broken Roads . . .

The third volume of the hit fantasy adventure series—with more than a million views on Royal Road—now available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook!

These are just wildly uneven. My favourite weird bit in this one is where he solves an ancient murder which will have important consequences, and then that's it, it never comes up again, even obliquely. It's like he steps out of the room and forgets about it. Just a very strange mix of interesting and frustrating.

This part was less interesting, as it was pretty much a repeat of the second book. Not bad, but nothing as cool as we saw before. Still, I am happy about where the story is going and looking forward to the next book.

A Find

This series is courageous in so many ways. Ryan English is a creator of great imagination and skill. His characters live, breathe, and stay with you, even between readings.

Loved this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Dirt and Socks. Loved their adventures. I didn't want the fantasy to end. Please give me more Dirt and Socks.
