Unrealistic and a stretch for belief
Nice protagonists, but the entire premise about this novel seems a bit hard to stretch even MY ability to believe in it. A man returns to Britain to appeal to British courts about property issues on the American "frontier" of Buck's county, Pennsylvania? And, a young society miss of the era charges off with the guy to travel with him on the basis of a 24hour acquaintance and the way his openly illegitimate daughter leans her head on her father's shoulder. 24 hours later, the family of 4 in an 8 bedroom house conspires to have them sleep in the same bedroom/bed? 1823? Sorry, strains my belief. I like the protagonists but I could not suspend my disbelief.

glad to be finished
Usually I'm disappointed when a book ends. With this book, I'm surprised that I was able to finish it. I liked the hero and heroine. He was rugged, honorable and a good father. She had character. The plot would have made a good novella but was stretched too thin for a novel. The introduction and back story of the hero's family was clumsy. Some of the scenes were either too cute or unbelievable (only one bed offered to a couple not in a relationship isn't even done today). The cliff hanger at the end was not appreciated.

Unbelievable
Unlikely plot, unlikely heroine, baddie too bad, goodies too upright. Didn't, find it realistically historical. I am not impressed, please do more research if you wish to write historic novels.

These impoverished by wastrel of father & grandfather the second son seeks his fortune in America. Swindled by the man he trusted he returns home trying to reclaim what is his.
Much hardship in this adventure but this generation of Emersons learn the value love & family.

Well there is a disclaimer
Although the disclaimer mentions sexual content and historical inaccuracy, I didn't enjoy other parts of this story.
While the dialogue is great, the hero offends easily and loves his child beyond belief. Most situations seemed contrived to make him an underdog that champions his way above others and it became irritating. The heroine goes completely against character for reasons that didn't seem enough to me. Maybe it was supposed to show passion but I didn't believe it. Other reviewers agree. At least there is a happy ending--wait it is a cliffhanger!

A great continuation of the Emerson series, this time we get to see the mysterious James, who has returned to England after getting royally screwed over in America and meeting the six year old daughter he'd never known about. This novel explores James's budding relationship with his daughter Anna at the same time he begins a relationship with the caring Irene. The characters are great, the conflict isn't manufactured, and there are no easy outs in the story. Some people have complained about the cliffhanger, but it affects a different character in the family, so it's really more of a tie-in to the next book. You'll read the next book because you want to, not because you have to.

I enjoyed the story and characters of this book. Ms. Driscoll has a way of bringing you into a family that you never want to leave. She did with the Kellington's and now she is doing it with the Emerson's. James and Irene are a great couple and little Anna just steals your heart. I enjoyed the plot and character development.
I am really looking forward to Win's story.

I loved this book. Wasn't happy with the ending. And the way Irene was treated by her family. Can the Emerson's please come into some money? This wonderful family deserves a reversal of fortune. I bet the Kellingtons would help!

Loved James and little Anna. Glad to have the rest of the Emerson clan involved with the story. Next book about Win should be a real heart breaker.

Always true to her
This book was well written and had many unexpected surprises. It does end on a cliffhanger but at least the description of the book warned the reader that it would. I do not usually like that but I have enjoyed the Emerson series very much so I plan to read as many as possible. This one is about James, the Emerson who went to America to make his fortune. Unfortunately he got swindled out of his land instead, found out he had fathered a half Indian child and acquired the child at her mother's death. He returns home to attempt to get his land back (because it was another English peer who swindled him) and winds up engaged to the swindler's sister. Oh my! An enjoyable story.

Not a heroine in trouble but the hero
I quite like these stories end with boy getting girl without the usual evil kidnapping, murder, or villain with a knife at her throat. I don't mind the almost cliff hangers but they are just that almost cliff hangers.
For example, Nick gets Irene ,but not the perfect ending however isn't that closer to real life where your best friend finally meets the guy who treats her like gold but has a job that makes him work God awful hours. Adjustments must be made but the happiness buffers the pain or those adjustments.
I highly recommend this series and give 4 stars because it didn't overwhelm me with laughter nor tears, butis something I can recommend a sick friend or for a sweatshirt read on a commute.

Her sexy Frontiersman
I loved James and Irenes story. James left for America 8 yrs ago to find his way but ended up with a 6 yr old daughter he didn’t know he had and his lands stolen from him. He arrives back in England to get his land back from someone he thought was a friend,
Irene has never been loved by her family but when she overs hears that her brother Cedric supposedly stolen Lord James land in America she can’t believe it. She contacts James so they can find out the truth. A beautifully written story with the loved of his daughter between them and the growing love for each other. Can they get to the truth before others get in there way.

I had difficulty putting this book down. It was most enjoyable -- but I'm not sure that I am fond of the teasers as the end of Book #1 and Book #2 of this particular series. Since it is obvious that Driscoll writes her series in the order of marrying off those in the family that the reader has so enjoyed, the unfinished business about these two endings which lead to the next book seems a bit jarring in this series instead of tantalizing. I liked the first and third series because it seemed like the endings wrapped up the plots and left the reader satisfied.

Another enjoyable story in this series, I though the first one ended a little weakly, but it now seem clear that each book furthers the story of all the characters. I enjoy the humour in theses books, and the author does a really good job of conveying the emotions in a moment, so that the reader finds themselves sharing in the character's experience. I look forward to seeing the story continue in the next book.

Book 3 in this series brings James Emerson home after 8 years in America. Therein lies a lovely story of a two people and their love for one little girl and their struggle to make a life together. As always these people have strong personalities, high standards of honor, and the chemistry between them and their warm extended family is lovely. Sharp dialogue & humor throughout.

Superb plot. Very entertaining. Wry sense of humour. A little different than the usual historic romance novels, and better for it. Maureen Driscoll is a truly talented author, who serves up something individual and not just a romance set to the usual formula.

Good read!
Though I ABSOLUTELY HATE a cliffhanger, I'll give this one a pass since I enjoyed James and Iran's love story so much. I will definitely be following along reading the next installments on the lives and loves of the Emerson's!

A series by an author I enjoy. This book was okay...probably more of a 3.5. Poor noblepersons falling in love and never improving their lot, proving that love conquers all. And I'll keep reading, LOL, while hoping for the best.
