Since I started writing my first simple movie script (1987) -and then a more elaborate one (1990)- I dreamed of working in the film and television industry. But the "Back to the Future's" films motivated me to study engineering. Always hoping that one day my scripts would reach the big screen.
Many years passed and several scripts were written. But the opportunity to show them to the world never came up.
In 2004, I wrote Ratalcext's script. I was so excited. A read about this contest in which the first prize was to produce the winning script. I select the subject for my story. Wrote a summary. Designed the main characters and start writing. But as much as I tried, I couldn't finish it before the deadline. Frustrated, I printed the script for review just in case another competition showed up, but it didn't happen. So, I just locked the script away.
Years later, I tried to write a new story in 2010 and another in 2017, but due to multiple situations, the writer's block took over me and I couldn't complete them.
That same year (2017), I started watching anime and then, after the passage of Hurricane Maria and the absence of electricity, television and the internet; I decided to read the light novels of the anime that got my attention. I started reading "Sword Art Online" by Reki Kawahara.
As I searched the information about the author of these novels, I discovered that he went through a similar situation back in 2002. Getting his dream come true years later. Even today, his story continues to be produced and expanded. Such an achievement inspired me to pick up my stories and try again. That's when I decided to turn the Ratalcext's script into a manuscript and proceed with the publication.
The process wasn't easy, but little by little I was able to finish it.
My goal, give life to a dream that started in 1987, which coincidentally started with a haunted house dream, a "mini script" and a cassette recorder where, together with my sister, we recorded the voices of the characters in our living room and then listen to the final product.
How far can I go? I don't know yet, but at least I'm satisfied and glad that finally someone else can appreciate them as much as I did.
Israel Velázquez has a remarkable ingenuity to merge with subtlety several genera of literature in one book, which is amazingly hard to accomplish without interrupting the flow of the narrative. Few writers can take you on a journey as intricate as this one. The normalcy of everyday life gets convoluted with dark comedic undertones. The book tells of desires so intense that rational thinking often is ignored, leaving the doors open to developing obsessive, almost neurotic tendencies. “Ratalcext” It’s an exceptionally well-balanced story that deals with themes and their opposite, such as witchery and skepticism, infidelity and faithfulness, vengeance and punishment. Although it is a mixed love story with unbelievable twists, the characters feel real—an amazingly well-written book.
Casi 40 páginas y no pasaba nada, no logró engancharme.
Excellent book. Intrigue, suspense... already finished. You will need to read until the end to find out the truth. It also includes some funny scenes. Brilliant.
