Undergrads by Ian Smith is a thoroughly entertaining and poignant look at college life in the late 2000s. It brought back so many funny and often cringey memories of my own college days in a house full of misfits trying to figure our lives out.
Smith's characters are faced with academic challenges, rivals, romantic, friend and familial relationships against a backdrop of house parties and questionable choices. This tight knit crew is messy! But so relatable. Smith excels at creating tension, and switching perspectives quickly while balancing solid character development.
I was left with a couple of questions at the end of the novel, but based on Smith's note that these characters will be back, I'm assuming the loose ends will be tied up in the sequel.
All together this was a fun read that I'd recommend for fans of Animal House, Scott Pilgrim, Superbad.
