Challenging Woke Ideology with Biblical Truth. A profound religious awakening has spread across America and has reached into every corner of society. But the religion in question isn’t Christianity. Fueled by academic ideas drawn from the discipline of critical theory, the “Great Awokening” accelerated the embrace of cultural values and practices that are in direct conflict with a biblical worldview. How can we effectively push back against woke ideology? By asserting a vision of race, gender, and sexuality that is rooted in the Bible's teaching. Writing for everyday Christians, Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer explore the origins of woke ideas and demonstrate their incompatibility with Christianity. In a respectful yet unapologetic manner, they offer a level-headed approach to engaging these issues with logic, grace, and truth. Post Woke is a guide for practical action. You will encounter examples, anecdotes, case studies, and diagrams throughout to help you recognize woke ideas in everyday life and respond effectively. You will come away not only with a fresh awareness of these issues, but with meaningful strategies for influencing society for good—and for opening people’s minds and hearts to the saving message of the gospel.
Neil Shenvi has an A.B. in chemistry from Princeton and a PhD in theoretical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as a research scientist at Yale University and Duke University and has published over thirty peer-reviewed scientific papers. In addition, his writings on critical theory have been published by the Journal of Christian Legal Thought, the Gospel Coalition, Eikon, Ratio Christi, and the Liberty University Law Review, among others. He is married to Christina and since 2016 has homeschooled his four children.
Here you go the FIRST REAL REVIEW! Notice that there were all of these reviews to blast this book without having read it? Probably because the authors are right on something. Fear what this book has to say so they post a ton of fake reviews to lower this book!!!! Lame sauce people.
This book is for Christians to help them understand what woke is and what to do about it. The authors are very well educated in the content and write capably. It is a solid well researched book. And instead of being so intolerant and all that nonsense this book will actually help people have better conversations and help other people. And how is that a bad thing?
This was a helpful book. It was informative, balanced, and level-headed. The authors equip readers to engage with proponents of critical theory in a charitable and rational manner.
After reading some of the comments, I felt as if I should write one as well, since it was obviously evident that some of the negative reviewers just didn't read the book, which is unfortunate to say the least…
Warning: This is a book that is hard to put down once you start, so be sure to clear out some time before reading.
This book, ‘Post Woke’, is a simple and brilliant expounding of Critical Theory (CCT & CRT), its effects on people, culture, and the church of God. Even if you are not a believer in the one true God, it is definitely the best book for its subject that puts a complicated, and ever evolving subject, into terms and examples that are easy to understand and follow, yet cannot be argued against, since they are just simple facts of the subjects mentioned.
Truly, Pat and Neil are the best in the field of CRT. First coming out with their more scholarly and academic work, ‘Critical Dilemma’, and now a more easily accessible and generally digestible work on the same subject, ‘Post Woke’. I would love to see more reviews of, not only people that have actually read the book… but those that, if they have contrary thoughts to Pat and Neil, for them to explain their views on the subject in reflection/response to the book with scholarly backed up responses, not just their own opinions.
Throughout this book, Pat and Neil dissect each main part if CRT, give real life examples, show how it has effected and evolved within the culture, and explain how we can reveal the faults with it to anyone willing to listen and isn't hardened against change. They expose the battle that is objective Truth vs subjective truth, and why, without Truth being objective, Truth itself becomes a floating signifier.
Personal note to the authors: I hope and pray that this work brings objective Truth and revealing light to people lives and that they be intellectually honest. Thank you Pat and Neil for your obedience to the Creator to make this work and to abide in the steps that He has prepared beforehand.
I read along side Ed Uszinskis “Untangling Critical Race Theory”. Shenvi & Sawyer offer a more conservative view while The former offers a more charitable view of CRT.
I prefer Shenvi & Sawyers slightly more academic approach in Critical Dilemma to this much shorter work. While there is much to think about for a Christian here (this book is aimed at the church unlike Critical Dilemma), it felt a bit click-baity and overstated at times. The title is a bit incendiary. Whereas Critical Dilemma did not.
All said- this one is probably easier to digest and is certainly shorter. Any Christian should seriously consider the viewpoint offered by these authors, without using it as a defense to remain unchanged by the gospel in matters of compassion and justice.
I very much applaud these authors for being brave enough to publish this important work (especially useful for parents) to combat the Woke nonsense that exists in secular society. It’s clear that those who pertain to the Woke ideology fear this text because in some of the hate reviews, the comments reveal the reviewers either didn’t read it, or have some warped view of Christianity where following an all-powerful God is great as long as that doesn’t interfere with an individual’s personal world view or individualized concept of fairness (thereby leading them to hate-review with low scores).
While Woke ideology is thankfully ebbing on a national scale, it’s perfectly foreseeable that it could come raging back as a side-effect of the general public’s desire to correct the excesses of the current presidential administration. Therefore if and when a Woke mindset comes back in vogue, this book should be essential reading to point out the Woke ideologies many fallacies and potential harm on our society and younger generations.
I’m grateful that this book provides rationale, thoughtful and comprehensive information to those seeking to defend traditional and Biblical values from a woke population. I highly recommend this book.
I'll be straightforward. It's trash. I am a leftist and atheist (formerly Catholic) but I also know it's important to see what the right has to say in politics. Which, I got to see through this book. The points fall really flat if you aren't christian or aren't part of the Abrahamic religions in general. If someone told me for example "woke is bad" then state religious reasons it won't matter to me because I am atheist. These reasons will also fall flat to Hindus, Pagans, Taoists, etc. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you want to laugh at conservative crap. (Wouldn't recommend it to conservatives either)
For Christians and those with a conservative theology, this book will be very helpful in understanding Critical Theory, especially Critical race theory and queer theory. I would highly recommend this book for those looking to be introduced to the subject and looking for ways to understand others with different view points or who hold critical theory ideas and beliefs.
Sawyer and Shenvi have done the Christian Church and society in general a great service with Post Woke. The authors effectively expose the religious nature of woke ideology and provide a strong biblical antidote for these false ideas hammering us from every direction it seems. This is a very helpful, timely, and accessible book.
The core of Christianity is that we are to love our neighbors without judgement. That's it. That is all. Anything else is blasphemy- as is this book. Nothing other than hate disguised behind "Christianity."
