With rival Houses at each other's throats, and heir disputes at every turn, Lily finds out the hard way that the Corners of Ever are no place for a human to be, and that once you step into the madness, it can be nearly impossible to get back out. And as Shayne tries to set everything right, he realizes too late he may have accidentally sacrificed the one thing he wanted to keep the most.


Fake Dating a Human 101 is book 4 of the High Court of the Coffee Bean series, a tale that follows a band of fairy assassins who enter the human world and try to live among them, hardly blending in at all. This series is the answer for anyone wondering what would happen if similar characters from The Cruel Prince ended up trapped in a Hallmark movie. It's 'cozy with a dallop of darkness', loaded with cozy cafe vibes and fairy nonsense, and sprinkled with a few epic deathmatches.

Immediate five stars! This is my all time favorite cozy fantasy series<3 I just can’t hype these books up enough! They’re all funny and each character has so much personality!

I’ve been waiting for Shayne and Lily’s book and it did not disappoint! Their chemistry and silly banter is my favorite thing.

As always, Cress and Luc are the ultimate divas and they are seriously some of my all-time favorite book boys! Luc is sooooo cocky and humorous and I need a twelve book series of just Luc being Luc!

I wish we got a bit more Violet and Kate content, but with this book taking place mostly in the Fae world I understand why we didn’t see much of them! I just love Mor, Dranian, Shayne, Cress, Luc, Dog-Shayne, Greyson, Kate, Lily, Mycra so so so freaking much! Literally everyone!

All these characters and their silly adventures mean so much to me. This book had the cutest ending and tied up everything so beautifully but of course I’m sad to say farewell to this world! I’m definitely going to reread the entire series one day! <3

This was so much fun, and such a perfect conclusion to the series! I'm glad Shayne finally got his story told, as his was the one I was most looking forward to. It was well worth the wait, and did a great job of tying up a number of other loose ends from the series as well. I also really loved seeing Lily fleshed out as a character and given a solid backstory. I'm bummed that this is the end of the series, and I hope the author revisits it in the future, as there seems to be so much more story to be told.

This book (and series) deserves all five of those stars, and then some. I was squealing and cackling the entire time. Cress... way to insult someone at their own wedding 🤣 he tried so hard. Luc is undeniably my favorite, though it's a very close tie between him and Dranian. CHAPTER 34?!?!?!?! LUCCCCCCCCCC 😍😍 Shayne finding out about Luc and Dranian's apartment and Dog-Shayne was too funny - Luc and Shayne's rivalry over being Dranian's bestie 🥹😂. This book was very different formatting wise than the rest of the series, but I couldn't have asked for a better finale (IT'S OVERRRRRRRRR THERE'S NO MORE OF THEMMM 😭😭😭). I really want to see Dranian and Mycra's story so bad though, like the other three got a love story, why not him?? Not to mention Luc... but I'm satisfied NO I'M NOT I WANT MORE. Well, summary, PLEASE READ THIS SERIES, IT'S SO WORTH IT!!!

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my GOODNESS! I wish I could give this book six stars! It had a little more violence than the previous three books, but it was the PERFECT ending to a perfect series. There were still a few things that need to be wrapped up, but I know there are going to be more books taking place in this world. I love Shayne and Lily, and Luc is just hilarious. You need to read this book!

Jennifer you have done it again winning my heart with another book. Thank you so much for allowing me to read one of your arc's again.

But where do I even start with this review, as this series is by far one of my favourite. Its cute, funny, full of adventure, and overall gluten is evil.
Shayne is one of my favourite characters out of the assassin's as he is just so cheeky and full of himself like Cress. He knows he is handsome and isn't afraid to tell people.
Lily is our badass police officer who happily puts the men in their place, whilst protecting the people she loves. The banter between Shayne and Lily is so funny with him forever calling her an "ugly human". They just have such a great connection that they can't help but be pulled towards each other.
I've loved watching their romance grow and both being too stubborn to fully admit that they love each other. The story was full of suspense and adventure that kept you on your toes. You got to learn more about the characters back story and what their family's style was like. I also enjoyed watching Luc wind them all up yet again having plans before them 😂.
And I must add the wedding scenes is hilarious 😂.

Let's all give a cheer for the best fae rom-com finale out there! The High Court of the Coffee Bean join together for one more story of epic battles and random arguments. Shayne is the sunshine to Lily's grumpy, but touch her and die. As they fake date their way through the Ever Corners, it is obvious that these two have feelings for each other and that information is very dangerous leverage. Packed full of humour, betrayal, suspense, unhinged love confessions and some of the wildest plot twists, Fake Dating a Human 101 will have you kicking your feet and giggling one second, but gasping the next. What more could you ask for? Actually, a Luc spin-off book would be great (please Jen!) because he is my favourite character and I need more sarcastic lines from him.

I have a rule for fantasy books. Steer clear of fae stories. They tend to be gross, overly dark, and icky. I broke that rule for this series. I previously devoured (and adored) Ms. Kropf's Winter Souls series, so when I started investigating her other work, I gave the High Court of the Coffee Bean a cautious try. And I'm so glad I did. This series has made me laugh out loud and better yet, my science nerd of a brother who's preferred reading is something along the lines of Brandon Sanderson or Robert Jordan, stole the book from me and is as big a fan of this series as I am. I tip my hat to you, Miss Kropf. That's no easy feat to accomplish.

So onto the actual review (WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!)

Now, reading the below might make you think I didn't like the book, which isn't true. I enjoyed it and there were laugh out loud moments, however far and away the best book of the series for me was Wanted, A Roommate Who Isn't Evil and it's hard to follow that performance. Romance is all well and good, but snarky enemies to friends with Dranian and Luc is impossible to beat. The book was solid, I just think there were parts of it that needed a bit more revising. Overall, good read and I think it does a nice job of tying the series all together (but I want more.......)

Things I liked:

-Lily's tattoos symbolising important people and events in her life. I'm a sucker for things like this because I've characters of my own with symbolic tattoos and the way they were a reminder to her when she was forced to eat the fairy fruit was really cool.

-Luc low key flirting with Lily and driving Shayne mad. It's iconic. I'm not sure who would be more annoying to be around, Shayne or Luc.

-Cress and Dranian bodyswap (the hilarity).

-Lily breaking free of the fairy thrall to give Cosmo a piece of her mind. Cosmo *grrrr* disgusting nasty piece of work.

-Luc being a plotter. (Because this one is devious......) I loved the ending, even though it was semi predictable, because Luc's character was so well done. He's such a contradiction and I'm here for it.

-Mycra and Dranian's friendship (beautiful) Also the fact that Shayne is jealous of Luc for having Dranian's friendship because he riles everyone else up and I loved seeing him getting a taste of his own medicine.

-Shayne's backstory. Why did Panola have to be dead?????

-Luc low-key proposing to Lily and causing Shayne to flip out.

-Cress bawling his eyes out at the altar (this one, such a drama king)

-Shayne and Lily fighting House Lyro and House Riothin together. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful.
-The BANTER. Miss Kropf does this so well.

Things I didn't like:

-Shayne and Lily's 'he/she couldn't possibly be in love with me' routine. You two have been fake dating for the last six months. Shayne, fairies can hear human pulses. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER. I didn't not like their romance, but the whole oblivious trope didn't do it for me, because I knew they were going to end up together. There wasn't a lot of suspense in the romantic element. Also Shayne got a tad too flirty (the one scene where he pins her, I forget why, but that's crossing a line Shayne my boy) for my taste at certain points and I think Lily should've smacked him.

-Some of the violence seemed rather blaise. Like Hans-Der getting chucked off the roof and the Lyro boys t*rturing Shayne. There's consequences for that sort of thing in real life.
-Shayne's angst about going back to House Lyro. Again, lack of suspense, we know he and Lily are going to end up together and him being all 'woe is me' was annoying.

-What was the point of Shayne getting captured in the beginning, t*rtured and almost killed by his brothers? He doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects, which struck me as unrealistic, but then again the entire Brotherhood have all had awful childhoods so maybe he's got a good coping mechanism? BUT STILL.

-Dranian's little thing about giving Mycra a new name, despite the fact that he never talks to her about it and it's left unfinished and DUDE IT'S HER NAME, NOT YOURS. I think it had potential, but I didn't like how it was executed.

-The way things skipped around. I think the plot could have been more coherent, because things did get a bit confusing at some stages.

-The whole fairy enslavement of a human thing. I know Shayne does it to rile Lily up, but it seems really disrespectful and easy to go too far with it. I think the book would have been fine without it, honesty and it's something that's made me frown a bit through the whole series.

But by far the best moment of the book:

After a moment, Mycra cleared her throat. Then she said "I'll be his lost arm. I'll be his strength and his weapon. He doesn't need his arm when he has me."

Mycra, you feral dreamslipper, this is so sweet. I want more of Dranian and Mycra's friendship. Short story????

It was great!!! But it was mostly focused on the plot, this time not the romance aspect in this one! It was still very lovely and a very sweet ending to a great series.
And again, it was all clean, kisses only, but the fight for me seemed a little bit heavier than the other books. But nothing overly graphic, of course.❤️ Also, some characters get enslaved. Nothing sexual happens when they are, though. So nice work Mrs. Jennifer! This series was amazing. 👏👏👏👏

Step 6: “Be gorgeous. Every day, without even trying”. 😆

This book primarily focuses on Shayne and Lily, but we also see more of Dranian and the dreamwielder’s story too, and the others of course!

As always, this book is fun and hilarious, like the rest of the series. The humor in here is top notch, mixed with some tense moments that show you that some real stuff is going down and it’s not all fun and games.

Shayne is such a charmer. I’m surprised Lily has patience for him 😆 but boy did he provide such comedic relief with how dark some moments got in here. Him and Lily are adorable. I would say they’re quite the opposites from each other, and yet fit so well together.

We see more of our favorites from previous books. I love the friendship these male Fae have. (Don’t tell them) but I do think they’re adorable how they stick up for each other and help each other always. And now they can protect their female friends together!

Luc was my favorite in this series. He was the dark horse through it all. You just never knew what he would do or how he would do it. He’s dramatic, intense, and yet, pretty sure there’s a heart of gold hiding in there inside of him. I think it would be neat to read a story about just him, especially with the ending shedding some light on him and what he’s been up to in the human world.

I’m sad this is the last in the series. Dare I hope there will be more?! I do hope! Such a fun series! I can’t recommend it enough.

I love this series and have been anxiously awaiting Shayne's book since the beginning. Our barefoot, crossbow-wielding kleptomaniac has stolen the show as usual and let me just tell you, it was worth the wait! This was a perfect finale! I can barely say anything about the book because there are so many spoiler opportunies.

The boys are back and let the shenanigans begin. If you've enjoyed the rest of the series, you will love this one. If you haven't read the series....this is your sign to go back and start with Welcome to Fae Cafe!




Side note: I *loved* Luc's storyline. (I love all the fae cafe boys, but he's my favorite. Sorry, not sorry.) That last chapter had me nearly out of my seat. Also it's official, he's getting his own book!!!

Even though I am very sad that this is (probably!) the final book in the High Court of the Coffee Bean series, Jennifer executed the plot perfectly and ended it in the only way she could- with humour. This rom-com-fantasy-style series is absolutely brilliant! I will never say no to one of Jennifer Kropf’s books, she is amazing at mixing humour with serious, lock-you-in plots. I have been anticipating Fake Dating a Human 101 for a while and Shane and Lily’s story did not disappoint. Luc was the icing on this gorgeous cake, I loved all the characters and their contributions, but his was definitely the best! I would love to see a follow up book about him! I definitely recommend this book and the series if you love fantasy comedies with romance.

Words fail to describe how much this series and these characters mean to me.
I have legitimately never laughed so much or cried so much in one book, or for nearly each book in one series. Literal tears fell from my eyes both from exuberant joy and laughter and deep sorrow and anguish.

I cannot recommend these books enough. I have bought 5, soon to be 6 sets of this series for friends and family, plus I bought my own paperback to annotate as well. It took me an hour to get through 10-20 pages (10 front & back, 20 if you go by the numbers on the pages) to read through some sections because I was annotating so heavily and switching between my colors I assigned different characters.

So if there’s five characters all reacting to each other and having dialogue in a chapter…it was beautiful, heavenly, and also took much time. ☺️ Worth it.

If you’re not convinced yet, my 13 year old brother read this series, it became his favorite series (beating out KOTLC) and he has asked for his own copies to annotate his for his birthday. He’s been reading my annotated copies, and his commentary on my notes and excessive use of color is…hilarious. He’s also started calling me “Ugly Human” and I’m obsessed. 🥹

I have absolutely loved this series!

I have eaten cookies, drunk coffee, enjoyed Torontos city streets, and traversed the corners of ever… and I can’t wait to do it again… and again.

With the intensity of a fantasy epic but with the warmth of a rom com beautifully whipped together- THIS BOOK- had me flipping the pages with all the intensity of a wild crossbeast.

Minor spoiler- I wish lily and Shayne had a heartfelt moment at the end just for the two of them. Where the walls broke down so to speak. (Especially for Lilly)
There were not as many cozy elements to this book compared to the others.
I thought Dranian deserved a better love story it felt like he got jipped in a lot of ways I thought shpuld get an epic romance but he didn’t… maybe in Luc’s story??
LUC, sweet diabolical LUC, I am hoping for LUC to get his own love story!
And I just have to say, the ending had me laughing out loud.

Thank you Jennifer Kropf for writing clean, fun, exciting, and uplofting stories in a world that can be so dark.

This was cute, and I laughed out loud more than once. But it felt unfinished.

This started as a Romance series. First Cress and Kate and then Mor and Violet. But after that things went off track. As the main characters of book three, I expected Dranian and Luc to become a couple, but that went nowhere. The existence of Mycra was introduced, but she wasn't even in book three. I expected book four to define that, but they were barely mentioned. Shayne and Lily were written as a romance story, but did they ever actually get together? Aside from one chaste kiss, there's no confirmation that they consider themselves a couple. Even Kate doesn't know if they're together, so I'm assuming they've taken it no further than him telling her they're going to get married - which was 50/50 whether he was joking or not.

It feels like the author just gave up on these books being Romances, and just pushed through to get the series over with.

My first thought when Lily started hearing the music was that she was having a situation that Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory was having with Darlin by the Beach Boys
...Sheldon did NOT have Amy's psycho brothers hunting her so I was WRONG.

Anyways, I LOVED when they broke into "Desmount Tec" and Cress was humming the mission impossible theme

"Cress, are you HUMMING?"
The sound stopped.
"No." Cress said
Shayne felt a grin form. "Was that the theme song of that spy movie we watched last night? What was that movie called again?" He tapped the side of his head, then he snapped. "A mission probable!"
"That was NOT it." Mor muttered
"A mission...pretendable?" Shayne guessed again.
"Mission possible." Dranian murmured, almost too quiet to hear
"Ah! Yes that was it. MISSION POSSIBLE. Cress, thats what you were humming right?" Shayne nudged Cress's back as they cam into a room cloaked in black curtains. "We're you pretending to be that astounding human male who–"
"I dont need to pretend to be human, Shayne. I am far more fierce than any human spy...."

Thats where Cress trailed off and they realized they were in the wrong building and it appears that they were in a building filming A DATING SHOW *cackles
and earlier Mor hugged Violet and smushed her face against him so she couldnt see the tv, Cress dragged Kate up into the apartment so she couldnt see the tv, and Shayne straightjacket hugged Lily so she couldnt see the tv, and dranian punched the tv.
(It kinda gives a little insight on how dranian needs a girl doesnt it. Also the remote was RIGHT THERE.)

He found himself moving across the room, pushing aside a chair, kicking iver candlesticks and stepping in Dranians food as he scurried OVER the table to vlose the gap between them—even though she backed away and continued to shake her head like the little liar that she was trying to be."

The last 2 books of this series are more all over the place where as the first 2 felt like single romances for the most part - Dranian and Shayne’s stories blend together and aren’t fully felt out I’d say - I also don’t think Lily is that likable of a character

I need to start by saying that I enjoyed the series a lot, it made me laugh out loud and smile plenty of times, but I feel like it had the potential to be a lot better than what it actually is.

First off, I believe the titles of the books set a false expectation. Fake Dating a Human 101 gives you the sense that you'll see them, oh I don't know, fake date? Nope, none of that here. I can't remember how they started fake dating anyway (could it have been in the first book and I forgot?). Heck, I would've been happy if they fake dated a bit in the Corners of Ever for some sort of plot reason, but instead we get a fight for survival. While this book in particular showcases it the worst I had this problem with the other books too. While I liked the more 'high stakes' plot line, I wish the book title scenarios shined a little bit more. Otherwise, a different title could have been better and wouldn't feel like click bait.

Still, I liked the coziness of the series! Despite the killing and threats, it wasn't overly dark to me and that's something I can appreciate. Yet, I felt the balancing between the serious and the whimsical could have been weighted better... or maybe just the language that is used. While I am a fan of the fairies odd dialogue choices that shows that they come from another world, I am not a fan of how awkward it can come across in certain moments in a way that doesn't feel particularly purposeful.

For example in this book Shayne has had a few tender moments with Lily, but it gets ruined by him ending it by calling her an ugly human. I wasn't happy with that nickname from the get-go and having him repeatedly say it, especially in what could've been a heart-warming scene, just takes me out of the moment. I get his attempt at trying to keep a distance, I guess, but just leaving out the ugly and referring to her as human would have worked out better in my opinion. That, along with the flow of some conversations, could have been improved.

I loved the fairy characters, they felt different enough from each other and their backstories interested me. The humans however..... ehhhhhh..... maybe I'm just a human hater, but anytime it was their POV I was just not into it. They don't feel as well-rounded or interesting, despite the 'mysterious' or 'edgy' backgrounds they were given. Making someone an orphan is not the only way to give their past a sense of intrigue. WAIT.... now that I think about it.... are all the main human characters orphans???? What's wrong with giving them living parents, even if they suck??? I felt like I was supposed to feel sorry or attached to them, but I was relating more to these fairy bros who grew up in an entirely different world from me, rather than the humans I felt like I should be connecting with.

Violet was the only one who had a substantial backstory to me and it was because it connected to the plot. Though I wasn't a fan of her decision-making skills, nor the decisions of the other humans... While I could understand some of the fairies bad choices, the human ones had me scratching my head or rolling my eyes. Perhaps I would have felt differently if they were grounded slightly more in reality. It's kind of funny how I was starting to wonder if I had something against not only humans, but the women in this book. However Mycra was a lot of fun and I was interested in learning about Luc and Dranian's landlady. A shame we don't see more of them! Anyway it's no surprise that the previous book that was mainly fairy POV was my favorite in the series, though Lily's plotline still managed to sneak in, ick. (eyerolling continues when I think about Desmount Tech)

Hopefully this isn't taken as a negative review... It's just I get a bit passionate when I see potential in something that wasn't fully satisfied. But, if the author and others are happy and content with it, then that's fine! I'll just remain sitting here feeling like Anton Ego.



To leave things off on a good note, this book had the most memorable wedding scene I think I've ever read or witnessed. The fairy boys will continue to hold a special place in my heart, especially Cress and Luc.

Aaaaaaaaaaah my goodness, this book, I love it so much!!!!!!!

Okay, I never want this series to end, but alas, here it is. I will be rereading it over and over, I know this for sure.

To the author: I hope you keep writing because I absolutely love your writing style, the humor, all of it. Thank you

This book was like a Rollercoaster. Oh no bad thing happend, yay he's back, oh... wait hold on... oh no. Yay they regrouped...oh, someone got kidnapped. Ahhhhhh. I loved it.

Shayne and Lily were so cute, his gasp at the end when he figured it out about Lily. Lol


"Cressica, you're quite fast." "Because intelligent thoughts have always chased you," Luc went on. "But you were always faster." Luc lowered his letter and sipped his drink again.

*dies of laughter* seriously this had me on the floor.

Luc, I didn't like you when you first showed up, mostly because you tried to 'kill' Mor (how dare you), but you are now my favorite. Also that ending for him, oh my GOODNESSS, it was sooooo sweet, I just sat there while my heart imploded.


And of course Cress. Cress, Cress, Cress, of course he was bawling, and those vows, just wow. I wouldn't expect anything less. Awsome.


The faes share one brain cell and most of the time it's split between Mor and Luc. Sometimes Dranian shares it, until he looks at Mycra and thinks he'll die a meat stick. (Also epic Dranian was, well, epic, lol)

I'm smiling as I write this reveiw. I just love this series soooooo much!!!!! There's so much more I want to say, but I think here's a good spot to end. See you later

Okay, I know I said the last one was my favorite but I’m pretty sure this one is my favorite (but if there’s ever a book featuring Luc in the future, that one will also probably be my favorite 🤣)

This “final” (I’m still hoping for my fae cafe shenanigans in the future) fae cafe book follows Shayne and Lily and their story is so tragic, yet beautiful and a little comedic. If you thought Violet got put through the wringer of fairy shenanigans in book 2, I present to you Lily’s story 😭.

I’ll try not to spoil too much of the plot because part of the reading adventure is discovering things as they happen and not getting spoiled by trope listings but just know that there will be laughter, tears, and fairy shenanigans of both the harmful and comedic varieties.

I will say that though this story features Shayne and Lily, I firmly believe that Luc stole the spotlight in both this book and book 3 (Dranian’s story) and I think his sass has definitely made these two books stand out even more than when he first made his appearance in book 2. He’s so similar to an eccentric anime “villain” turned “hero” (I use those terms loosely…I would say he’s morally gray but with pizazz 🤣)

This is probably the “darkest” book out of all of them because it does really show the true nature of many of the fairies in the Ever, but there’s no gruesome details nor anything really descriptive that would require content warnings.

Overall this is a good end to the series, but I hope we aren’t completely done with the shenanigans from the High Court of the Coffee Bean.

I absolutely loved this ending to the series. While the previous books in the High Court of the Coffee Bean series had strong cozy vibes, this one was all nail-biting tension from start to finish and I simply couldn't put it down. It was also hilarious. The author really managed to keep the comedic vibes going, especially through Shayne's character despite all the difficult things he was going through.

Luc is absolutely brilliant in this book, because he still seems to be the completely spaced-out, useless shadow fairy asassin with no redeeming qualities who needs rescuing all the time, until the plot twist at the end that totally redeems him and reveals quite a lot of unexpected things about him. I loved that and really appreciated what the author did with this character over the course of the series, because there were hints in the previous book, but the author really managed to keep the truth under wraps until the very end.

Lily is awesome as always. I can't say more without giving away anything, so I'll just say that of all the FMCs in this series, she's by far my favorite and I'm so glad Kropf gave her such a sweet-yet-funny ending.

All in all, this novel fabulously wraps up all the loose ends from previous books, manages to give Dranian a happy ending too, and even manages to make Cress and Kate's wedding ridiculous, all after heart-pounding, page-turning action with twists and turns I thought I ought to have seen coming (as I've read everything this author has written) but was still surprised.

Loved it! And can't wait to see what this author does next.
