The Healer and The Wolf Part One

Rate this book
She saved a wolf—and found a man worth risking her heart for.

When Vanessa stumbles across an injured wolf in the woods, her healer’s heart won’t let her walk away—even if saving him might be dangerous. But when the wolf she rescued shows up later, not as an animal but as Leo, a ruggedly handsome man with secrets in his eyes, her life takes a turn she never saw coming.

Leo knows he shouldn’t linger, but he can’t ignore the powerful pull he feels toward Vanessa, the woman whose kindness awakened something deep inside him. As their connection blossoms into a romance neither expected, the barriers between their worlds blur—but Leo’s past isn’t far behind, and Vanessa must decide if she’s ready to trust not only the man, but also the wolf within.

This is a sweet, steamy paranormal romance about healing old wounds, finding home, and the magic of love in unexpected places. It is book 1 of a duology and ends on a soft cliffhanger. Part 2 is available now!

Cozy Monster Romance ✨

📖 Bookish Moments
I loved this book. Vanessa is such a soft, kindhearted FMC, it broke my heart to see how tough her day-to-day life was. She’s barely scraping by, budgeting every grocery purchase, and still taking care of her cats and a random injured wolf. That kind of real-world struggle doesn’t get shown often in romance, and I was so glad to see it represented here.

I loved the slow burn between Vanessa and Leo. That was pretty much the first half of the book and it made it feel so cozy! Vanessa’s patience while Leo adjusted to his human form gave me major Harlow and Rukh (from Ice Planet Barbarians) energy — and I mean that in the best way. That’s one of my favorite books ever!

Also: the cats. Adorable. And they immediately adopted Leo! Always trust your pet's judgement!

The second half of the book brings in more action and worldbuilding with the supernatural community, and I loved how it picked up.

📝 Favorite Quote:
"I was petting a wolf! Every single Disney Princess could step aside, because there was a new girl in town."

💭 Final Thoughts: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was everything I wanted: Cozy, slow burn , and a sweet FMC who really deserves a win. I will definitely reread, and I’m so excited for book two!
That cliffhanger!!! Ahhh!

It was ok? It started out slow. it picked up after a while but then sort of went off the rails. It also needs trigger warnings. Big ones. There is an evil person with the ability to take away memories and cause emotional connections. He uses that ability to make female supernaturals enamored of him and defend him. He basically magically roofies them into a willing harem of soldiers. Captivity is bad enough, starvation, memory removal, beating, torture, all bad, true. But magical r*pe needs big red warning labels.

I absolutely adored the first 2/3 of this book, when it was just a sweet story about a kind woman caring for an injured wolf shifter. But then it turned into your typical overwrought paranormal/fantasy story, with complicated lore, wizards ‘n’ shizz and blah, blah, blah… Take me back to that swoony scene where she has to show him how to use the shower! Also — possibly because this was written by a group of authors — there were some inconsistencies that made my eye twitch. Like the heroine, who we’ve been told has a bad history with fire, just walking away from a campfire without dousing it. Or the part where she gets a bone-deep laceration that is never mentioned again. That one gave me flashbacks to Denise Richards at the end of “Starship Troopers”!

Healer and the Wolf is an absolute gem of a paranormal romance! From the very first pages—with foraging, feline antics, and a mysterious wolf—I was completely hooked. The pacing is spot on, revealing just enough at every turn to keep the intrigue high without ever dragging. The world-building unfolds organically through the characters’ experiences, and the supernatural elements are woven in so cleverly that I found myself constantly wanting to learn more.

The characters are a standout, particularly Vanessa and Leo. Their chemistry is delicious, their emotional arcs feel genuine, and their relationship is both swoony and grounded. I especially appreciated how the story didn’t shy away from their inner conflicts and vulnerabilities, making their bond all the more compelling. Plus, the animal dynamics—from cats to wolves—added such a fun and heartfelt touch. There’s a real warmth in the writing that made even the tense or emotional moments feel intimate and human.

By the end, I was completely invested—not just in the romance, but in the larger conflict that’s just beginning to unfold. The final chapters strike a perfect balance: wrapping up the main thread while teasing the next phase in a way that left me desperate for Part 2. If you’re a fan of emotional depth, supernatural intrigue, and beautifully written romantic tension, this one’s for you.

Be aware that this is not a standalone read, but is a story ending with a cliffhanger.
Vanessa (Ven) is our twenty six year old MFC and college dropout. Shes made her way alone since she was sixteen. She’s in love with her cats, Mudpie, Goober and Fork, her furry booties 😂. They are about all the family she has left. After what happened to her mom, her aunt punishes her by not associating with her. Even if she’s living from paycheck to paycheck, she has her own place, her fur babies and is happy in her own way.
Leo is our big, muscled and handsome (after a shower) wolf shifter MMC. He’s been locked in wolf form for years. He remembers nothing of his past, yet is plagued with images of another life, confusing him.
Leo is trying to remember his memories lost and Ven is trying to loose the memories she has..
This is an amazing author and this particular book is written with lots of humor that I adore! I mean, a mouse providing kitty meth to her one eyed orange cat!😂😂
Sooo much about this book I just love. Theirs magic, wolf and bear shifters, witches, fated mates, and memories reclaimed, that magical kiss on his wolf muzzle turning him back into a human.
The thing I dislike (and it is only my personal choice) is she had three other partners before him. Just putting it out there👍🏻.
Read to find out if they rescue Rickey and Atticus. And do they win the fight with Katarina Vensyclov’s matriarch of the seven warlock brothers.
Also learn about Mammon Medical Industries, and the cruelty and horror they performed.

Vanessa,26, college dropout and trying to get past thepassive agressive stuff another employee is bringing into the work place. She is biking home, a place the landlord lets her work with to build up a mini homestead. Then she spots some mushrooms. She finds another batch of plants she can use. Then notices blood. She follows the trail to a wolf who's bleeding. She uses the nettles she scrounged to put into the wound from a safe distance. Then two bears show up and she manages to scare them away. Then she feeds the wolf. Finally she heads back to her bike to call the rangers. She leaves for home.
Leo is sitting outside Van's greenhouse. He found her. She saved him yesterday, fed him and gave him water.
The strange journey begins for Van and for the wolf. His thoughts are all over the place. He doesn't remember much..is he an animal? How does he recognize emotions. All he knows is the female was kind to him and saved him. He stays with her and slowly she comes around to accepting him being there. She talks to him which he likes and when she sings he joins in. Meanwhile she has decided to stop putting up with the stupidity of her co worker.
She tells the wolf that she feels there is something not right in her head. She comes to realize he's become a best friend to her.
Will Leo eventually remember who and what he is? What about Vanessa? Will she figure out her life?
A story of acceptance, and standing up for yourself in some instances.

Some stories just click with me, and The Healer and the Wolf pulled me in from the very first moment Vanessa knelt beside that injured wolf. There’s something about a heroine who follows her instincts, who risks her own safety to help a creature in need—it’s the kind of kindness that makes me root for her before I even know her full story. And Leo? Oh, Leo. From the second he shifts from wolf to man, his presence is magnetic. Brooding, secretive, and carrying a past heavy enough to crush him, he’s the kind of tortured hero I can’t resist.

The chemistry between Vanessa and Leo is undeniable, but what I loved most was how much their connection is built on trust—on her willingness to believe in the impossible, and on his slow, hesitant hope that maybe, just maybe, he’s found a place where he can stay. Every glance, every touch between them sizzles with restrained intensity, and when those barriers finally start to crack? Absolute magic.

Roxie Ray has such a way of balancing sweet and steamy, and this book delivers both in spades. There’s danger, there’s longing, and there’s that irresistible pull between two people who were never supposed to meet, but who fit in a way that feels utterly right. And with that soft cliffhanger at the end? I’m already counting down the days until Part Two.

I didn’t expect The Healer and the Wolf to be such a cute, shifter romance.
Vanessa is somewhat of a loner, besides her three cat children she has no other family. On her way home from work she comes across a giant wolf that is barely alive. Being the caring animal lover that she is, she’s able to give it some assistance before calling professionals to further help.
Once they arrive the animal is gone and she heads home only to find the same wolf in her yard.
The Healer and the Wolf tells the story of this beautiful relationship between Vanessa and Leo. It’s full of magical creatures and humans that are trying to enslave their kind. Vanessa doesn’t know what she got herself into by saving a harmless wolf!!
I was really caught up in the action and especially the love story that was unfolding…
I can’t wait for the next book!.

The first half of the book was so cute. A cozy little story about a girl nursing a wolf who is injured, but suddenly the wolf turns into a man! The second half becomes so disjointed. Suddenly, we are at different locations, action scene after action scene, and all i want to know is how the romance between the 2 main characters is going. It had such promise but failed to stick the landing.

The Healer and The Wolf de Roxie Ray Parte 1

Argumento:

Romance paranormal, shifters lobos, mundos diferentes, proximidad forzada.

Well this went somewhere I didn’t expect 😳 what starts off as a cosy paranormal romance turns into a full-fledged urban fantasy with a plot pacing as rushed as an F1 car 🏎️

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the foundations of it. FMC is actually quite sweet, patient, and tenacious. World building was interesting. And the plot at the beginning was quite cute. However… The writing style is doing its utmost to sabotage it.

There are moments of brilliance and humour which help make it 3 ⭐️’s and the premise was setting up this novel to be quite the cosy healer x wolf shifter romance and it was by all means going to be. But then came the other 60% of the novel, which was something else all together (not horrible, it’s just a case of good intentions and “kinda” poor execution). So, let’s talk about them:

• Writing style: Best way to describe it? Juvenile. It’s fine to have a few colloquialisms and phrases here and there but shoving them in during critical situations and at a constant rate made it weird. This type of narration works well enough with the FMC (Vanessa) but the MMC (Leo)? I don’t know, something didn’t quite fit there. Also… lore dumping in dialogue? Telling instead of showing? Need I say more? For instance, Leo (who’s got a case amnesia via curse), could of had an epic flashback chapter of the moment he got cursed which could have been structured in fragmented chunks to really make the blanks in his memory clear in addition to building tension. What do we get instead? A big old spoken spiel that is the equivalent of Lore 101 (strap in folks, you’re getting a chapter of lore dumping).

• Pacing: Hear me out, this duology should be a trilogy. You’ll know what I mean when, what I would assume to be, the main event of the novel lasts for all but two chapters. And Plan A that the FMC was pushing for is barely written to any depth and goes out the window and bursts into carnage and flames 🔥 in literally 5 seconds. That event should have been dragged out until the end of the novel AND THEN moved on to the other event which would have happily occupied a majority of the sequel. You’ll know what I mean when you read it.

• The continuity issue: Yeah… we need to talk about Leo and the issue with his selective amnesia. A fine example of plot convenience if I do say so myself. Which is fine in some aspects, but the struggle and frustration to regain his memories could have been more evident. And also I’ve got a bone to pick about Vanessa’s injury later in the novel (Spoiler alert 🚨 she gets a bone-deep bite from a wolf), in an unironic sense. I just want to point out it’s bone deep. BONE. DEEP. That’s a full on critical injury that requires serious medical attention. But no… 🙄 the cure is wrapping a rag around it and calling it a day (That’s not what you do. Go to a hospital Vanessa, before you bleed out). Do we reference at all later? No 😂

Look everything in this review would point you towards a 2 ⭐️ review, but I’m giving it 3 because of the FMC. I liked her, she had a good balance of qualities and flaws. There were adorable moments between the main characters and their relationship is actually quite mature (no unnecessary angst, thank goodness). And while Leo may have his inconsistencies in memory, he makes up for it with his emotional intelligence. Above all, this is a novel with good foundations; while it won’t work for everyone, it is a nice novel with cosy vibes and reasonable stakes.

So, should you give this novel a read? Sure, it’s an easy read with moments of brilliance, just go with the flow on it.

Vanessa "Ven" is a loner, but not by choice. She doesn't get people, and they don't get her. Nevertheless, she does have a kind heart, but because of her good nature, she tends to get used as a doormat. However, by the end, we see a very different Ven. She's not completely changed, just a stronger version of herself. She gains a backbone and shows a ton of bravery. I liked her before, but I like the tougher version of her even better.

Only Ven would befriend what she perceives as an injured wolf. Only he isn't a wolf but a wolf shifter named Leo. As things steadily unfolded, I got a better understanding of the situation, and my heart couldn't help but go out to Leo. I can't say more without giving up a major part of the plot, but I can tell there was some backstory given and some pretty strong emotional moments. Let's just say Ven and Leo found each other when they really needed someone. Their connection was instantaneous and only grew from there. They made a cute couple.

The story started off as a cozy read. It was moving really slowly and just didn't click with me. I almost gave up on it, but I'm so glad I didn't. It turned into a wild paranormal read with a tragic past, wolf shifters, and a hint at a bigger supernatural community. There was loads of action. There was a bit of subterfuge and missions. Bullets were flying, and claws were clawing. It was crazy. This half of the book is also when the romance starts to develop between Ven and Leo. By the end, I was invested. Then Roxie dropped the cliffhanger on me. I can't wait to see what Roxie comes up with in The Healer and the Wolf Part Two.

This wasn't bad per se, but something about this just didn't vibe with me.

I've read several Roxie Ray books and I've enjoyed them. I did enjoy this one overall, but the writing of this book just felt a bit too messy to me. I understand that this was at least partially intentional, given the storyline, but there were just too many moments where I was cringing at the actual writing.

I love a good, cheesy, paranormal romance, especially if I go into it expecting just that. And while this did deliver on that expectation, there were so many moments where it went from 0 to 100 without much reason or explanation. What began as a cozy, "getting to know you" vibe suddenly shifted to an intense rescue mission scenario straight out of every 2000's action movie. I'm all for character development, but the way that this played out just felt like the beginning was slow and sweet, then the end was just totally rushed.

While we knew that Leo had some sort of past, and was slowly recovering parts of his lost memory, it just felt almost like a jump scare to me.

It was still a cute read, but I feel like I was reading two different books at times and it just didn't really work for me. I'm not giving up on Roxie Ray by any means, but this book was just a miss for me.

The Healer and The Wolf started out with a different tone and story type than some of the other Roxie Ray shifter books. This one starts out feeling like it will be a cozy, shifter love story but that changes as the book develops. The story is a slow burn but there is a lot of action, heat, and adventure joining the storyline. I enjoyed the story and I liked the developing relationship between Ven and Leo. The book does end on a cliff hanger but as the story progresses it is a good place to pick up in a second book.
Vanessa or Ven, is a lonely, single woman who loves to garden and lives alone with her three cats. She leads a simple but solitary life but knows she needs more in her life than just her gardens and her cats. She comes across an injured wolf in the woods, that she helps out and he ends up following her home. The wolf in question ends up being a shifter named Leo. Leo has no memory of what happened to him or where is pack is and is dependent on Ven, despite being an alpha wolf.
I enjoyed the differences in this story than what you usually find in a shifter romance. I like that Leo was dependent on Ven for support and protection. While it is usually the other way around. While Leo healed, he and Ven learned to know and grow to love each other. As Leo’s memory returns, he and Ven decide to rescue his pack members and story start to develop.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. It did get a little slow at times but overall, I liked this book.

The Healer and the Wolf was such a surprising and heartwarming read! I didn’t expect to fall so hard for this story about Vanessa, a loner with a big heart (and three cats), who stumbles across a wounded wolf on her way home from work. Being the animal lover she is, she helps him—only to find out later that this isn't just any wolf… it's Leo, a shifter with no memory of who he is.

The first two-thirds of the book were my favorite—soft, sweet, and full of tender moments as Vanessa and Leo slowly build trust. Their connection felt genuine, and yes, the scene where she has to teach him how to use a shower? Adorable!

As the story progressed, it dove deeper into fantasy with warlocks, missing pack members, and magical conflict. While it added action and raised the stakes, I did find it a bit overwhelming and slightly inconsistent at times—possibly due to multiple authors. Still, the emotional moments and romance carried it through for me.

If you’re into shifter romances with magic, adventure, and a kindhearted heroine who finds love in the most unexpected way, give this one a try. I'm definitely curious to see where the story goes next!

Vanessa on the way home from working at the store she found some mushrooms to eat and then some plants she could use but then followed a blood trail. She tried to feed the wounded wolf and made a poultice out of some of the plants she found and got it on its wound then scared a couple of bears away. Called the rangers but the wolf was gone which ended up at her place so she fed it and then started talking to it. After some months later she gave it a kiss on the nose and Leo changed forms but his memory was gone. His memories came back a little at a time, Vanessa helped him find his best friend who was his beta. Took a bit but they got Ricky free from the warlock that had him, she ended and kiss Ricky on the nose and he changed and had his memories still. Vanessa was helping Leo and Ricky to find more of his pack but then Leo got caught.

This book started out a bit slower than I expected. Of course, we needed to be introduced to the main characters and everything, and I still enjoyed the slower parts. I guess I was just wanting to get to the conflict/problem-solving part of the story faster than it was getting there

For the most part, I really liked the FMC. As someone who has also spent most of their life feeling inferior, prioritizing "getting along" and "being a team player," (often to the detriment of my own health, happiness, and safety) I identified deeply with Vanessa's struggles with her coworkers, family, and work/social interactions in general. I also got some heavy ND vibes from her, (likely ADHD and/or autism) and that made me happy because it's so rare to find good autistic/ADHD representation in female characters

Anyway, I'm off to start the next book, and see where this cliffhanger takes me.

Vanessa is a loner, and works in a store. On her way home, she comes upon an injured wolf. Vanessa helps the wolf, and gives him food. The next day the wolf shows up at her house. She continues to heal, and feed the wolf. Vanessa kisses the wolf on the nose, and he becomes a man. Vanessa is shocked, and scared. She learns about the shifter world. Leo begins to remember his life. He wants to find his family. Leo begins to recall about the torture, and experiments that his pack suffered. He tells Vanessa about the events, that happened. Vanessa agrees to help Leo on a dangerous mission. Vanessa, and Leo also have a connection, and form a relationship. Will Vanessa risk everything? Will Leo save his pack? I enjoyed reading this book! There is love, danger, and passion.

Review: The Healer and the Wolf: Part One by Roxie Ray

I came across this book while searching for stories where an unsuspecting woman helps an injured wolf—only to discover he’s also a man. This story fit that niche perfectly.

In The Healer and the Wolf, a woman unsure of her worth or purpose ends up breaking a long-standing curse and begins helping the shifter reconnect with his lost pack. While the book includes extended sex scenes (which I personally skimmed), I felt the author did her due diligence in making the relationship believable before diving into intimacy.

I'm not sure Roxie Ray is an author I need to read everything from, but this particular book filled a specific craving today. I’m invested enough in the story to see it through.

A sassy and suspenseful shifter read

I kept seeing ad after ad in my feed so I picked this up after the plot caught my full attention. And this was very well done.

A cursed shifter is freed by love’s true kiss and the friendship that blooms between Ven and Leo is so heartwarming and cute.

The healer vibes and hurt/comfort trope is very much alive and beautifully done. I especially loved how Ven tended to Leo once he was human again and had no idea how to do anything human really.

Cute, chaotic cats and the sass and banter were hilarious and a great add.

Beware the cliffhanger though because…it’s a huge one!

A m/f urban shifter romance where shifters, warlocks and fated mates all come out to play.

Dual POVs told in first person

Steam - couple very hot scenes

Vanessa and Leo

Interesting plot with wolf shifters, warlocks, curses, magic and other things paranormal. Vanessa is a grocery store clerk working minimum wage, a college drop out and socially isolated. She’s a young single cat lady. She helps an injured wolf who then follows her home in the woods and hangs out with her. Vanessa breaks the spell he’s under and meets Leo, the man. The way their relationship progresses is very sweet. They build a trusting partnership helping each other out to find Leo’s lost pack.

The plot dragged in the beginning but the pacing got better after 50%. There’s a cliffhanger. I will absolutely read the 2nd book.

Fighting off the bears with a flare gun...

This book was adventure and thrilling from the start. With Leo having really no idea what's going on. Vanessa fighting for both of them . It was a fun read!
Once they found the magic brother and the house. I really wanted to know why he thought she was a paranormal? He called her a succubus? Is she magical?? Why was the first question at the party... are we being raided by the feds? How do you work for someone and that's the first question when chaos starts!?.
I was sad for the paranormal test subjects and Ricky. Especially when he had to leave Leo behind.
To be continued - three hated words!

Ven and Leo

This is a very, very good, well written, Shifter/Human romance. Ven is a loner and thinks of herself as different. She works part time at a local grocery and rents a small house with garden space. Riding her bike home from work, she spots some mushroom, then some other plants taking her deeper into the forest. Leo has been gravely injured and dieing when she finds him. Even afraid, Ven tries to help and scares off two bears who may have hurt Leo. Read how he shows up at her home as the wolf but is having strange thoughts. Then she breaks the curse.

Alright so, this story is pretty cute. I liked both Vanessa and Leo. They had a very well written relationship.
It's very sweet all the way up until the halfway point. When we start getting into the action portion.
The book ends on an cliffhanger. I typically hate that... I don't want to have to commit to the second or so book if I didn't feel a huge connection. Which I didn't with this book. As much as I liked it, I found myself rushing through it near the end.
Also. There are a crazy amount of typos or errors in this. Way more than I've ever encountered in a book before.

FANTASTIC STORY!

Bit of a doesthedogdie.com type spoiler at very end of review
This is an Incredible series. The FMC is sweet, smart, brave, and realistic. You can feel so much passion (not just the sexy kind) and emotion from the characters. A wonderful mix of real world and fantasy world that is very logical and points out things I always wish would be brought up in Urban Fantasy, but it's still magical and fun. I absolutely LOVED both books.

I love werewolf romances and this one had a really good plot, wherein the fmc whose life revolves around her job, her cats and gardening. while coming home from work she finds a wolf severely hurt and injured, she helps him but story continues on and i very much enjoyed it.
That being said, the first part was very much interesting but the second book was bit too much action plot related and less romance, felt like the whole romance felt a bit boring in second part also repetitive plot, if executed differently this book would have been an easy 5 star read.
