Eddie Iroh managed to write a story that captures a snapshot of childhood in a timeless way. The nostalgic feel and themes of honesty, integrity, and hard work ring true today as much as they did when I read this book a couple of decades ago.

A friend just reminded me of this book, and, surprise surprise, here it is on goodreads!

Good times. I'm not sure I will like it now as much as I liked then if I read it now. So I'll just give it 5 stars. Or 4 stars.

Good times.

A very interesting read, a compelling story of a boy without a silver spoon. It brings to life the challenges that families face in the midst of poverty, the ideals parents want their kids to live up to, the importance of honesty, and how it pays off.

A must-read for every youngster

A good book, I would encourage school-going kids to read it, full of character building.

"You cannot ask a frog to give you a chair when you see it is squatting." My favourite line from the book.

A little gem of a book that touches on the importance of honesty and integrity. Wholesome, a little sad, but ultimately heart warming.
