This story is mostly based around one of the FMC Mason. I enjoyed the emotional trauma each of the characters had and the developments as they each grew. Now this is only the start and there are lots more healing and things to unfold. I felt deeply for Mason and the mental issues she has. I can relate to some of them making me wish I could climb in the book and be part of her world. The verdict is still out on Sebastian. I wanna slap him upside the head for some of the comments he makes and his scheming. I wish there was more spicy and regular interactions between the other characters where Mason wasn’t involved but we might see that as the series goes on with each battling their own issues. It’s a MMFFM so lots of pov’s but the transitions between were flawless and smooth. The ending does have a cliff but it feels like you are getting ready for battle to protect this home filled with love.

Fav Quotes:
“Anne Boleyn, if you’re up there, first of all, I’m totally sorry for how you died. That was supremely uncool. Anyways, please watch over this hot mess. I have a feeling you’ll enjoy the show.”

“Sweet girl, you’ll never be too much for me. And if you’re too much for anyone else to swallow? I say let them choke.”

“How the hell did such a little thing like her end up sleeping with someone like me? Did she not care about her own safety?”

“Sweetpea, I told you I wasn’t done. If you want to cum so bad, I’m going to make you cum.”

“He was like an unpolished diamond. To most, he was still a lump of coal, but I saw how beautiful he was on the inside.”

THERE IS SO MANY MORE I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED!

My Rating System:
1 star: Probably DNF - Lacks structure - Grammatical Errors - Boring characters
2 stars: Not a fan - Struggled to finish - Won't reread - Lacked personality - Lacked storyline
3 stars: Neutral - Underwhelmed - Nothing special - Like the book but we're still troubled by a few components
4 stars: Enjoyed - Concept unique - Dialogue felt real - Invested in characters - Missing cherry on top
5 stars: Creme de la creme - It's addictive - Emotional Impact - Highly Recommend - Feels like you are part of the book

This was dark, chaotic and follows an extremely messy polycule, who all have a lot of issues, but all need each other. It took me a while to connect with Mason, and the way she bounced from person to person as an escape, but not really letting herself feel or think about their side. Once you understand her mental health trauma, it was easier to see why she acts like she does and her vulnerabilities. This definitely makes you switch feelings for the MMC's as they are battling their own problems as well as figuring out the new dynamic with Mason.
I like the found family themes and second chance romance, but the key theme was everyone's obsession with Mason, and their need to protect her. It definitely took some unexpected turns, and you can tell there is more danger and chaos to come.

Powerful Read!!!

I loved this why choose book. It is truly Mason’s story about her self loathing and her process of healing. The road is not easy and it is full of twists and turns. There is also another story developing throughout the book about Cam that I’m sure will unfold further in the next book.

The author did a fantastic job developing each of the characters and their unique relationships between themselves and Mason as well as with eachother. This book has many dark themes and TWs should be taken seriously. I can’t wait for book 2 because this author left us on the edge at the end of book 1. Amazing read that I highly recommend!

Mason F*cking Albright

What in the what???? To be continued my a**!!!!!

First I’m conflicted about Seb I don’t like his inner monologue on Mason. And i truly think he’s just overall obsessed with her in all the wrong ways. Like can he kinda get out of the picture.

Sophie is differen and i love her for it. She has no shame at all that’s for sure. and a girl dom.. interesting👀 Plus I love the admiration she has for Mason.

Cameron is a little quirky and a hulk of a man based off his description, but he really is a gentle giant. I however knew something was off about him and well yeah makes since but i’m glad he’s not the person Seb thought he was.

Lucian I love. He says all the wrong things and has that *i don’t give a f*ck attitude* but at the end of the day he got sober to be better and always put Mason first, and loves everyone close to him unconditionally. But I swear him and Mason better get married. It’s written in the stars obviously!!!!

And then there is my poor sweet Mason. The world and almost everyone in it has never been kind to her and she deserves the absolute world. The trauma and abuse she’s went through was just…awful and I just know that her becoming a mom will be the best thing for her and she will do such a great job. She has so much love to give and maybe it’s because she never felt any herself. I hope that she truly will get her happily ever after.

The Debut Book in the Unholy series and can I just Say WOW! First you have these Characters who are so different, and complex, some are easy to love and others you want to throw a book a scream at! All of these beautiful and intricate souls form a polycule with each other in a MMFFM relationship that shows the complexity and beauty of this type of relationship. Not only is the spice level bordering on carolina reaper but become so emotionally invested in these characters. The sorrow, the turmoil each of them has, and no doubt they have all had sorrow but they still find a way to make eachother happy.
Second every single chapter had me saying WTF? Or Are you kidding me? There were so many of them that I could not stop reading!
Rock Stars
Tattoos
Cults
Serial Killers
Stalkers
Second Chance Love
BDSM
And so much more in this book. I'm excited to see where else Erin Mersey takes this series.

WOW. Thanks a LOT for that CLIFFHANGER! Literally screaming, crying, throwing up, and will be everyday until book 2 comes out. If that isn’t enough to get you to read this book then here are some more reasons this is a 5 star read for me.

The spice is pretty spicy, BUT it all feels like a setup for everything to get even HOTTER in the next book. I love all of the characters and the plot twists and little reveals kept me guessing the whole way through.

This book has all the things you could possibly want in a dark romance: serial killers, trauma, second chances, religious cults, and a wide variety of k!nks. This is the first book the author has written, but bearing with a little roughness in the beginning you’re in for the perfect treat. I fully expect the next book(s) will be better than the last!

I absolutely loved the multiple POVs, I love reading about each individual character and what they’re experiencing at that moment. The plot was actually plotting and I don’t want to give it away by spoiling just know you need to read this!! The freaking ending are you joking me!!! Need the second book immediately pls

Speechless and Addicted!

Some books click from page one and some books take a bit and then a moment happens and your just hooked. This was that book. It started off a little unsure how it was gonna go. I immediately hated and loved different characters and by the end that completly changed and I ended up loving and liking the characters differently. Some of it was, ok I know where this is going, but there were multiple twists in here I didn't see coming at all and now I'm dying to continue this journey!! Amazing Job!!!

I’m a sucker for a why choose romance! I loved the characters in this book however I wish we could experience character development and intimacy with the other relationships, not just ones involving mason. I can’t bring myself to like Sebastian even though I wish I did. I hope this changes in book two, but the underlying cult plot is nice!

This book was a wild ride! Mason’s journey—from a hookup at her dad’s concert to moving countries, unexpected pregnancy, family drama, and a love triangle—had me hooked. So much tension, heartbreak, and healing.

Can’t wait for book two! because that ending... BRUTAL

Man. This is the first in the series. It was so good. This book had a lot going on. The book started with mason at her dad’s concert. He was a musician like she was. She met a guy at the concert and they hooked up. Mason started dating Sebastian months later. He was a childhood acquaintance. She was living in France and she decided to move to the states with him once she found out she was pregnant. But he was living with his brother and his partners. Flashback. Mason was living with her mom for a while until she kicked her out because she got expelled from school for taking the fall for something that she didn’t do but it was to protect someone she cared about. She ended up finding her mom. She was with Lucian when they discovered her. They went back to his house to get cleaned up. While he was in the shower his father talked to mason and said she was ruining his son’s life and she needed to leave so she did. She went to live with her dad but he didn’t treat her the best. 6 years later she came back and they all worked through everything but It took a long time. Sebastian and Lucian didn’t get along very well. Can’t wait to read book 2.

Review: 3.5/5

Let me start by saying, this book is not bad. The writing style is sharp, the POV transitions were smooth, and I really liked the darker tone, emotional complexity, and the suspense woven into the plot. The thriller twist and cliffhanger were definitely strong enough to keep me intrigued.

That said… this didn’t quite align with what I personally look for in a romance.

The story is almost entirely centered around Mason, a troubled rockstar with layers of emotional baggage, unresolved trauma, and a deep fear of being unloved. She bounces from one intense emotional (and physical) connection to another. A hookup with Cameron that leads to pregnancy, a relationship with Sebastian, and tangled history with Lucian and Sofia. Everyone’s connected... but mostly through her.

This is meant to be a poly romance (MMFFM), but for me, it reads more like a collection of complicated, unstable pairings rather than a true poly family dynamic. There was minimal chemistry or emotional development between the others. It was all Mason-centric, and honestly, that got exhausting at some point.

I respect the emotional depth the author gave her, but Mason’s constant self-sabotage, need for validation, and inability to receive love made it hard to root for her. Especially when it overshadowed the other characters.

And to be honest? I’m someone who prefers monogamous, emotionally grounded relationships in romance. I don’t mind spice, tension, or even poly elements when they’re done with balance. But this felt more chaotic than connective.

Still, there were things I did enjoy:

The suspense and darker twists

The emotional complexity beneath the surface

And most importantly... the dynamic between Sebastian and Cameron. 👀

Yes, Sebastian is kind of an asshole. But he’s not annoying. There’s something about his brooding energy, the enemies-to-lovers setup with Cameron, and that delicious age gap that has me hooked. I’m genuinely more excited about them than anything else right now.

So, will I read Book 2?
Absolutely. But not for Mason.
I’m here for the tension, the thriller plot, and most of all— Sebastian × Cameron. Let’s go. 😏🔥

Are you fucking joking? Another whole year till we get the next book? Christs sake.

Things to note: I started this book not knowing there would be pregnancy and toddlers.

This was the first time I read a polyamorous romance and the dynamics actually made sense. I don’t think Sebastian is a nice add on to the group, but maybe in the future he will get some character development. I was expecting more from Mason’s closure with her father. Btw it felt a bit weird reading how absolutely very single character was obsessed with Mason, literally every single one of them. The rest of the story was alright.

This book is good! I will say this is my very first MMFFM and I was nervous going into it. I loved the multi povs. Get a glimpse into each of them! I highly recommend this book, and most definitely will be doing a reread! Plus the cover is super pretty and caught my attention!

This book is the reason I had to finally make a bookstagram. This book made me message the author screaming, crying, throwing up.

Let's start from the beginning. I found Erin Mersey when I was generously chosen to receive an ARC of her new book, Red Lace Manor and thought to myself, "I should read more of her books."

WRONG. This book set itself up as a fun little poly romance with a cult for some excitement. I was expecting some spice and, based on my previous experiences with this many main characters, a surface-level understanding of each one.

WRONG. This book is full of emotions, character development, angst, and characters battling with themselves and each other. Mason made me confront some things about myself. I did not care for that.

"So you didn't like it?" I LOVED IT. I just finished it and I already want to re-read it. This book completely screwed my TBR. Now I have to read the next one. Every character has their own distinct voice and lovable qualities (except Seb. I hate that guy.)

In conclusion, please read this book. I need someone to scream about it with.

Such a good why choose & my favorite polycule. I love the character development we see in Mason. Watching her slowly get healtheir after all she has endured is so emotional. I love the journey we go through with each character, and the storyline is soo good!

Erin had me falling in love with the polycule right beside them. The trauma rep. The poly rep. The LGBTQ rep. All written so well.

I am so glad I am reading this book before diving into my ARC for book 2 because I did not want to wait with that cliffhanger!

and the spice? GIRLLLL. 🥵 🔥🌶🌶🌶🌶

Please Hate Me is Erin Mersey's debut novel. For her first book, she completely knocked it out of the park. This is the first book in the Unholy Series. This series is planned to be 5 books long. Please Hate Me is a MMFFM Reverse Harem surrounding our girl Mason and her love interests. This book is emotional and beautifully written. You will laugh, cry, smile, love, and get angry, but I guarantee you will feel all the emotions as if it were you living in the pages. It's raw and filled with trauma as the main character works her way back into a life that will make her happy with people she will love, even if it's not at first. Please do not ask me to pick a favorite love interest, because even days after I finished and as I write this review it is impossible. The author did a PHENOMENAL job creating these characters, the plot, and the spice in this book, and she deserves every star in a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rating. Heck, if I could give her more, trust me, I definitely would. I highly recommend her debut novel and suggest you follow her for updates on what's next!!!! Please make sure to check Trigger Warnings ⚠️ they are there for a reason and your Mental Health Matters!!!!

Oh my gosh!!! What a ride, I mean what didn't this book have!
You have consistent- Second chance romance, forced proximity, polyamory, RH (MMFFM), bisexual.
Differences between love interests- Age gap (16 years), serial killer, ex-girlfriend, ex-boyfriend, ex-boyfriend's brother, surprise baby, "single" dad, plus sized female love interest, plus sized male love interest, I mean what more do you want in a book!!!! I think the tropes itself killed it.

Then you have the characters building and omg God!!! I took notes and ohhh, the notes looking back now. Just saying this book is a fun ride and I want more.... And the spicy!!! Ohhhh the spicy! I got ideas from this book 😳🤭. I use to say I don't like books with spicy. But man when they have an amazing background and then add in the spicy. My kind of book! 📚

Lucian, Mason and Sofia are my all around favorite. Maybe cause they have been together for over a decade and now reuniting again. That love is still these is amazing!
The way they treat each other 💓 and the build up of the love story again. Yes, I need more of them but did I tell you Cameron is the father of Mason baby by a one night stand but also dating Lucian, Mason ex. 🤭 Like crazy world and story!!!

And the hints to the serial killer. That is throwing me off and I need more! Pay attention cause this author gives you hints the whole time throughout the book that had me putting my hand over my mouth in WTF.

I love the way she goes back and forth from the past to the future so you get a full understanding of what is going on. What is to come for the future or you think... But I am sure with this author I will have it complete wrong.

This is now the 2nd book by Erin Mersey and I am in love!!!! I will be reading everything she shows my way and can't wait for the next one to come out. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

5 phenomenal fucking stars!
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

10/10 DO recommend!

I knew from the moment I read the blurb and dedication that this book was going to be fucking wild!!!

As a Bi woman, I loved the dedication and the authentic Bi relationships on page. I love that Erin showed that Bisexual, Pansexual, and Polyamory are NOT the same thing and that being Bi doesn’t automatically mean you’re Polyamorous.

As a Bi woman married to a man and is in a “straight passing” relationship I loved seeing a straight passing relationship in the book. I guess technically there were multiple relationships that were straight passing if you count all of the different couples within the polycule. Either way, I fucking loved to see it!!! REPRESENT FUCKING MATTERS!

This book took me on a motherfucking feels trip like no other! For this to be Erin Mersey’s 2nd book, she knows how to write angst, and scenes that tug on your heartstrings and fuck you up emotionally!

This book has soooo many moving parts and pieces and twists and turns! I loved it! There were even some twists I didn’t see coming which was refreshing.

This was a motherfucking banger of a book, a kickass start to a new series, and a fucking dope first novel and second book! Well fucking done Erin Mersey!

Oh and the CW and TW are NOT a joke, there’s some heavy, extremely toxic and serious stuff in here, not to mention the abundance of sexually explicit material. If you’re looking for spice, you’ve found it!

*I was privileged enough to read this book before publication. This is my honest opinion, and these are my unhinged thoughts.*

So let’s talk about it… I have to give it a 4.9 stars lol because I know the 2nd one is going to be better and more suspenseful (more drama) let me start by saying these characters all together is great! I love Lucian and I’m pretty sure Sophia’s story is one I can’t wait to hear about! “She knows everything” which really has me thinking she’s the head of this company Seb works for.. Seb is my least favorite of them all. He’s very creepy to me and I really want to know his obsession with Mason more. Mason….oh Mason… the trauma this girl has dealt with sickening, but overcoming all of it will definitely be beautiful to see! I pray we will see a fully healed version of her in the future. Cameron beautiful Cameron…. He’s my favorite and I hope he stays the way he is good and going down a different path than his “father” Dale! I really wanted more of his story and I was thinking that Mason would be taken by him but that’s what’s keeping me on my toes for the next book!!!! Lucian is also one of my favorites…. Given daddy vibes and just dark, dom, and tatted and I love it lol! Can’t wait too dive into the second book when she releases it!!!
