Two of Emily Giffin's most beloved novels tell one story of love and betrayal, friendship and forgiveness...
Something Borrowed A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan firm, Rachel White has always played by the rules, quietly accepting the sidekick role to Darcy in their lopsided friendship. But that changes the night that Rachel confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiancé, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In doing so, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself.
Something Blue Darcy Rhone has always been able to rely on a few things: her beauty and charm. Her fiancé Dex. Her best friend Rachel. She never needed anything or anyone else. Or so she thought until she uncovered the ultimate betrayal. Blaming everyone but herself, Darcy flees to London and attempts to re-create her glamorous life on a new continent. But to her dismay, she discovers that her tried-and-true tricks no longer apply--and that her luck has finally expired. It is only then that she can begin her journey towards redemption, forgiveness, and the true meaning of happily ever after.

Today I was talking to my husband about "Something Borrowed" the movie and I wished they would make "Something Blue" into a movie as well, I walk into a local bookshop and find this copy: TWO-IN-ONE, I just had to get it and see for myself what will happen to Darcy.
"Something Borrowed"
In 2011, the movie Something Borrowed was released; at first I didn't fancy it much, but a couple of years later around late 2012 I fell for the story. I love the title the most. It has two meanings: either that Darcy borrowed the man Rachel was always supposed to be with, or that it indicates the role of the maid of honor, because she is the one that's supposed to give the bride "something borrowed".
In any case, since I became a fan, and knew it was based on a book, all I wanted is part two to hit the cinemas. Now that I read the book, I'm surprised of how much I despised and hated Rachel and Dex. Especially Rachel.
She is not only a traitor but a fake friend and a horrible person inside; I prefer Darcy in the book. In the movie, the director, though he stuck to the original story knew how to manipulate the characters and events to make Rachel seem likeable and for the audience to root for her, and wish for Dex to leave Darcy. In the book I felt that the writer was trying so hard for Rachel case against Darcy because she is pretty, smart, fun, loved and lucky.
In real life, Rachel wouldn't have won... ever! And I'm not trying to be mean, she is rotten with personal turmoil and vendetta of her own making. If she hated Darcy so much, she could have stopped being her friend instead of wishing her ill wishes while smiling at her.
The funny thing is, I don't think she even loves Dex in the book, I think the thrill of "winning" something over Darcy is the key factor of who she is and her "love" to Dex. Even if she won him, I don't see it going anywhere after the thrill of the forbidden is over.
THE BOOKS WERE RLY GOOD BUT I NEVER GOT OVER RACHEL AND DEX FUCKING WHILE HE WAS STILL WITH DARCY. IT MADE ME HATE RACHEL EVEN THOUGH DARCY WAS TERRIBLE.
WAIT THIS IS BASED ON BOOKS? IT'S SUCH A LOL GENERIC ROMCOM. D:
THE BOOKS ARE A LOT LESS GENERIC. ID LIKE THE FIRST ONE AS MUCH BECAUSE RACHEL IS SO MEMERISHLY PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE ABOUT BEING IN LOVE WITH DEX AND HATING/LOVING DARCY. THE SECOND ONE IS MUCH BETTER BECAUSE DARCY GETS HER SHIT TOGETHER AND STOPS BEING A TERRIBLE PERSON.
LOL I THINK THIS IS WHY I CAN'T STAND THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SOMETHING BORROWED, EVEN THOUGH I RLY LOVE THAT SERIES AND INO I'M SUPPOSED TO SYMPATHIZE WITH HER BECAUSE SHE'S KIND OF FUGLY AND HER BFF IS INCREDIBLY HOT.
WHY DO YOU LOVE THAT SERIES? AND THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT BOOK IS ABOUT.
LOL TY FOR TELLING ME WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT, MEMER. IL THE SERIES BECAUSE I LIKE THAT AUTHOR'S WRITING AND I THINK SHE CAPTURES EMOTION RLY WELL.
Borrowed & Blue are two novels in one written by Emily Griffin. The two novels came out at different times but the publisher published the two books in one making it around a 600-650 page novel. I have ready the first book many years ago, Something Borrowed and even watched the movie staring Kate Hudson & Gennifer Goodwin. I don’t exactly remember the book and the movie was a little different so o decided to reread and the second book in the series Something Blue when i discovered the two books in one! I immediately remembered how much I enjoy Emily Griffin novels because they are usually fun & hip and with a good storyline. I also loved the movie. Which usually never happens with books.
While these are really two books I’ll make my review as one since the publisher published them both together in this copy. Once i started i couldn’t put down the book. Rachel & Darcy are as different as different can be. Rachel is the brains & Darcy is the beauty who has always gotten everything she wants since they were kids. Now living in NYC Darcy is engraved to Dex but on a drunken night Rachel sleeps with Dex and the two fall in love. Of course chaos begins and more secrets are told. Which is where the book two begins. I won’t say too much because I don’t want to give away spoilers for those who want to know who ends with who. But I absolutely adored the final ending and thought things ended exactly how they should end.
The writing was fun & witty. The characters who may not have been deeply emotional people (Darcy) were however deeply written and portrayed. As much as I hated Darcy I wanted her happy. I loved Rachel and even Dex who I usually despise cheaters... Darcy was such an awful person I was glad he cheated. Lol
I definitely understand how this became a movie because it’s a total romantic comedy book. I know Emily griffin created the screen play for Something Blue but unfortunately the movie was never made and it’s been 8 years since the first movie came out.
If you love a cute friendship, romantic comedy/fun summer read this is a great book to kick off your summer. I love that you get two books in one. Wrapping up all the storylines and no need to wait for any sequels!
I haven’t read many chick books but the story line looked interesting. I needed a good escape – Calgon take me away - and this book delivered. I did enjoy the friendship story lines however twisted they were! The escape included high fashion, shopping, and high drama. That’s always a perk, right? However, the book is quite sexual. The author has a good grasp on the younger female mind and it was fun to “go there.” The book is well written, engaging, and a quick read. In the end, we are thankful for the Queen to finally mature and realize what is truly important. A coming of age perhaps?
‘Something Borrowed’: I found that in all honesty, the movie was much better than the novel. I think that is due to my bias of the movie being my favourite rom-com of all time. However, that isn’t to say that I didn’t like the novel - because it was truely heartfelt, and I liked the original roles Emily Giffin had for the characters. For example; Ethan in the movie lives in New York and apparently has feelings for Rachel, whereas in the novel he is living in London, and his relationship with Rachel is platonic. These small details could have made the movie flow into the sequel - however, I can’t fault these small changes for the big screen! Overall, a 4.5 stars.
‘Something Blue’: Wow! This novel I read so quickly because of how much I loved Darcy’s perspective. I have never been so overcome with happiness with an ending. The storyline was truly beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to see this series end. My heart completely burst when Darcy and Ethan finally allowed themselves to fall in love. Overall, an easy 5 stars!
These books both highlighted the importance of friendship and love.
“Love and friendship. They are what make us who we are, and what can change us, if we let them.”

I chanced upon Something Borrowed on Netflix and loved the movie so I figured reading the book wouldn't hurt. Thankfully I found a better book- Borrowed & Blue!
This book let me relive Rachel, Dex & Darcy's story and continued on to Darcy's after their wedding was called off. I like Rachel's character because she represents what being human is. She tried to hide, hold off and deny what she had for Dex but in the end she couldn't, at the expense of betrayal and hurting Darcy, who on the other hand is a total female version of a douchebag.
Darcy is everything a girl would want be on the outside at some point in our lives- pretty, famous, outgoing and the life of a party. But she is so shallow! I managed to read through Blue because I actually wanted to find out how Rachel & Dex are (hahaha) post-Darcy :)
I did not totally like the ending of the book. I think Ethan deserved more but I am happy Darcy found a new life and a new love and changed for the better.
I am forever sad that I won’t get to see a Something Blue movie, even with the changes made to Something Borrowed.
I just adore these two novels, and my re-read of them cemented those feelings. The betrayal of friendship tears you in two, because it’s not a betrayal as much as the wrong thing- two people with the wrong people. But it’s gut-wrenching and real and it staggers you because you’re forced to feel differently about a situation that you’ve been told is only one thing.
And the way the Giffen takes Darcy from a one-note to a multi-layered character is beyond brilliant.
Loved these stories! I didn't realize this was made into a movie (never saw it but heard it was so cute). Since books tend to be better than their movies, I was hopeful this one would be a winner. Once I found out who played the characters in the movie, every time a character would "talk" in the book, I imagined it being said by the actor/actress, and it made it that much better! It's a bit of a long read when paired together...between 6 and 700 pages, but it's a fast read for that length.
This is probably one of the best books I've ever read. It is actually 2 books. Two women who are best friends who are very different. The first book is told from the perspective of one of the women. The second is from the perspective of the other. While there are a few instances of reading about the same thing twice, the perspectives are different. Expertly written in a way that joins the 2 stories together but keeps it new and interesting. Loved it!
This was a good switch from the mudery/thriller books I read. This is totally a TV show I would watch! I like the reality of it all and that it could happen. Someyhing Borrowed was a juicy drama, and the second one is good character development for Darcy. It was tough to read the second one at first because Darcy is someone who I can't stand. But I really liked it. She changed her character for the better, and life was really looking out for her.
I thoroughly enjoyed these books. Although I wasn't looking forward to viewing things from Darcy's perspective in the second book... I disliked her as a character and it only grew worse through most of Something Blue, but I'm glad I continued to read as it turned out to be the best of the two books. I ended up loving Darcy's character more and more and I truly loved the ending of the story.
I found this book from the movie Something Borrowed. The characters in the book well matched the actors in the movie. I enjoyed Something Borrowed. Now here's the spoilers for Something Blue - I don't really buy Darcy's transformation or why Ethan would fall for her. She's still needy and spoiled. I enjoyed the story, but the first half is better.

First of all, I think this will be a biased review. I’m personally uncomfortable to stories about cheating, more so that the story made it more horrid. Writing was generally ok although there are bits here and there that feel ‘stretchy’. If it’s any consolation tho, the 2nd book was a little less disturbing than the first one.

I still can’t comprehend how I can love and hate the movie and book so much at the same time. Rachel, Dex, and Darcy can all burn in hell; yet somehow I still love the book. Everyone should die alone. Except Ethan. He deserves so much better. Anyways I’ll be thinking of john krasinski for the foreseeable future.
4.5 - I really loved both of these books, I even teared up a little. I'm glad I was able to read them together, I feel like if I would have taken time between the two sides of the story I wouldn't have appreciated it as a whole as much.
I found both of these women unlikable but by the end of the second book, I did tear up. It just goes to show with all of their flaws and misguided reasonings, the author was able to eventually make you care. But for me this was a long slog.
So freaking good. Easy read and makes you root for the characters you never thought you would root for. It held my attention and I truly loved reading it. I will probably read it again just because I can! Like watching a movie. Loved the closure from all of the characters.
4 stars because I read the book in its entirety. The main characters were both unlikable and pretty miserable to follow. The timeline in the second story is not realistic but I can let that one go. I did like the same story told from 2 different perspectives.
It’s such a great combination of 2 continuous stories. I read it in less than we week and was super involved with each character. It’s a great beach read!
