Spoke Too Soon: A Sweet Romantic Comedy

Rate this book
It’s every girl’s dream to move in with the hot guy who ghosted her...NOT.

I’m about to be homeless at almost twenty-five.

Cue the pathetic wah, wah, wah sound effect.

And to make matters worse, I’m nowhere near having enough money to fund the clothing line startup I’ve dreamt about for years.

But bemoaning my current situation won’t move the needle and it certainly won’t find me a place to live. I have to make some tough decisions.

Which is why I accept the lifeline Charles—Dane—Kent tosses me during a particularly weak moment.

If only living with him didn’t resurrect the old attraction I’ve wished a hundred times would die a quick and painless death.

Yet, here we are. Sharing a bathroom. Invading each other’s space. Tiptoeing around the fact that neither of us wants this…

I mean, neither of us wants this. Right?

Sometimes the way Dane looks at me makes me wonder.

But envisioning what it would be like to let him into my life, close enough to where he could hurt me, can only end badly.

So, reluctant roomies are all we can ever be. Even if my heart begs me to reconsider.

***Spoke Too Soon is a sweet, one-sided rivalry romcom filled with tension, unnecessary angst, and all the swoony, sizzling kisses you've come to expect from a Dulcie Dameron novel. ***

Too Perfect to be Real

Daria meets a gorgeous man at an event and they end up talking all night. He gives her his number and hopes she’s going to call.

Dane is a pilot and an investor, but not much for dating. He had a bad case of stalker blues when a date went crazy and started following him everywhere. Giving Daria his number was really stepping out of his comfort zone. Little does he know, that when Daria actually texts him a couple days later and he doesn’t return the call, it ruins her newfound dating confidence.

They both thought the other person was special and maybe even forever material, but when Dane never gets Daria’s text, they both end up disappointed.

It’s a comedy of epic proportions when Dane and Daria end up standing up for Dane’s brother and Daria’s best friend’s wedding. By this time, Daria is so hurt she is actually mean to Dane. Will they ever work out their issues?

This is a five star clean and very sweet romance with a hard won HEA.

This is book is where sizzle and swoon live.

Daria and Dane are so much fun. Dane is SO patient with Daria and her grumpy tendencies even when he has no clue why she despises him. His patience and tenderness are what bring Daria's walls down.

I'll be honest, Daria was a tough heroine to love at first but once we learn why her heart is made of stone and hidden behind walls of steel...well you can't help but feel for the poor girl.

The friend and family dynamics were so much fun and I love seeing Jamie and Parker again!

Dane though, whew, he was all man, all swoon, and all patience. You can't help but love him from the get-go. He knew what he wanted and he didn't give up until he got it. And I loved every second.

If you're looking for a book that brings all of the sizzle with none of the spice, found family and strong family vibes, as well as a pilot hero and fashion designer heroine...look no further than "Spoke too Soon" by Dulcie Dameron

3.5⭐️ ARC Review: This wasn’t my favorite book by any means, but Dulcie’s writing makes up for it. She knows how to tell a story.

Let’s start with my issues. Daria was very tough character to like. She was very very unkind to Dane. And even Dane mentions in the book he was sick of Daria thinking the worst of him. You and me both buddy. He really never did anything to warrant her hatred. He even explains himself a bit in the beginning and she still didn’t forgive him for a while. About halfway through she finally puts her pettiness aside.

Other than that, this book was great. A bit unmemorable and boring at times but I still enjoyed myself and found that I actually liked the characters together. I loved the situation they find themselves in (needing to live together) Dane is a good man and very patient ha.

I loved his family. I need to go back and read his brother’s book, because he and Dane were so cute in their interactions together. Is that weird to say? Dane is a good brother. Dane is an all around ideal MMC if you can’t tell already ha.

I will say I actually enjoyed the bit of suspense at the end. I obviously knew it was coming but I still liked it nonetheless! Random but not ha.

*Thank you to the author for the ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have loved every single book by her and I NEED to go back and read book 1️⃣ of this series because Jamie and Parker are ADORABLE 🥰 and I already cannot wait for book 3️⃣

Daria. Growing up in foster care has left some bad burns on Daria’s heart 💔 I loved how this book showed her struggle to let people in and open herself up to love 💕 I was cheering her on the whole time. And her SNARK was amazing 😂

Dane. His life is orderly and he likes it that way. Enter, Daria. The one woman who’s ever caught his eye, and who hates his guts 👀 I absolutely loved the portrayal of OCD through Dane 🩵 the way he was there for everyone through the whole book was amazing 🥹 and I loved watching him fall more and more for Daria.

Shoutout to Danes mom for making me CRY laughing 😂 oh my gosh that woman is a force to be reckoned with and I ADORE her 🤩

This book was so so good, I swear Dulcie can do no wrong. The banter was fire 🔥 the romance brought all the heat without any spice 🌶️ and the deep emotional layers were perfection. Now I NEED book three 🤭

⚠️ CW: FMC went through foster care and had negative experiences (DM for details), MMC has OCD and it’s talked about frequently, stalker and intense interactions w stalker ⚠️

I always enjoy Dulcie's books, and this was no different! Daria meets Dane at Parker and Jamie's engagement party...but Dane is actually "Charles"—the man who she connected with at a party a year ago, who gave her his number, and then proceeded to ghost her.

Daria's life has made her hardened. She went into the foster care system at age five, and she's never really had anyone be loyal to her except her best friend, Jamie. Jamie is getting married, though, and while Daria is happy for her friend, she's really hurting by the change in their relationship.

Dane has been extra cautious about dating in the past year and a half after one date turned into a stalking situation. He's doing some work with a therapist to overcome some of his OCD tendencies. I loved that rep.

These two have a great back and forth. I loved that Daria finally opened up to Dane. He was so good at caring for her in the ways that she needed.

Also, that first kiss was FIRE.

Favorite Quotes:
-"I hate the way I shivered at his commanding voice, at the way he said, you will not bring another man into our apartment. But dang if it didn't make him wildly attractive for a whole fifteen seconds."

-"You don't have to like me for me to be kind to you."

-I purse my lips, fighting back a smile. Is this man seriously goading me into kissing him? And worse, am I loving every second of it?

-It hits me how utterly gone for her I am. There's nothing I'd rather do than be with her. No one I'd rather talk to, laugh with, or kiss until we're both breathless. It's her. It's been her.

-But she has to walk through this. All I can do is hold is her hand while she does.

-"I'm sorry for what I said in the women's restroom."
My smile quirks playfully. "Why do I feel the need to cross-stitch that onto a heart-shaped pillow?"

-This man has shifted my entire world, my entire future, by loving me. By not giving up on me when I pushed and shoved him away.

-He owns the piece of me I swore to never give away—my heart.
And he will always be wha I craved most—my home.

I absolutely loved this book!!! Daria doesn’t think love is for her. Dane has had a rough go with relationships. So, when they meet and they definitely hit it off, Daria is shock when she’s ghosted and Dane doesn’t understand why she never called or texted. Now we’re at
They’re best friend’s wedding and she’s laid of honor and he’s best man. Can they be civil to each other to not ruin their friend’s wedding? After the wedding, Daria doesn’t have anywhere to live for a few weeks. Dane offers her his spare room. Can they mange living in the same apartment when they can barely tolerate each other? Read the book to find out!!!

-Dual POVs (Sweet vs Salty)
-Foster care background
-Reluctant roommates
-Characters with real struggles & growth

A rom-com with depth. I really really enjoyed this second book in the series! The characters are so different from the book 1 MCs and I loved that! I also loved that book 1 characters still were a big part of the story. I received an ARC and immediately stopped reading everything else so I could read this. 😍

This forced proximity, enemies to more, roommates read was wonderful with dual point of views (sweet vs salty). Daria's upbringing was rough as she grew up mostly in foster care, and she had trust issues. Dane and Daria's story was well-written that included a misunderstanding where Daria thought Dane had ghosted her after their first meeting and funny moments. I enjoyed seeing the characters from the first book appear in Spoke Too Soon as well as the Kent family.

This was a good book, but felt a little like a let down after Jaime and Parkers story which I loved!! I just feel like there was too much misscommunication and unwillingness to talk through things like a mature adult on Daria's part. Dane was great; Daria's immaturity annoyed me at times. But overall, it was cute and I'd recommend it as a good read.

I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m really struggling. I’m 150 pages in and Daria is so unkind, unforgiving, and annoying. He gives her a place a stay and she treats him like dirt and over the smallest miscommunication. Why was she willing to be with him earlier in the book the first time they met and then abandon ship? It’s sweet to see her change but the change took forever. He really showed her love and patience.

It has so many good reviews. I’m not understanding why. There’s also random praying and Bible. Which isn’t a problem I just wasn’t expecting it.

At this point, I’m speed reading it just to see how it ends. By page 193 Daria start softening up, but that’s like almost 200 pages of Crazy. It finally picks up after that with even a couple twists.

The ending like very end couple pages are cute

Spoke too soon is the second book in the Kissing a Kent Brother series, a series of interconnected standalones. Sign me up was already high on my TBR, but seeing Jamie and Parker interact made me want to read it even more!

But this story is about Dane and Daria and while this is an enemies to lovers romance, it’s kind of an insta-love (or at least insta-attraction/fascination) situation.

Dane was definitely my favorite character. Okay, I really loved Jamie and Parker too, did I mention that? But they are - although important - side characters. And Dane was extremely thoughtful and caring, he forgave easily and was just so kind and sweet.
I loved how he supported not only his brother Parker and his fiancée (side note: weddings aren’t really my thing, they easily get way too sappy for my taste, but Jamie’s surprise for Parker was the cutest!), but also Daria in her efforts to make it in the fashion industry!

I love that the story has depth beyond the romance. The characters feel real and they grow throughout the story. They have backstories that help not only the reader, but also the other characters to look behind the actions, to understand certain behaviour and to empathize with the characters. I love Dulcie’s writing! Her stories just flow, they are easy to read, have wit and heart and I am looking forward not only to catch up on the series with Parker’s and Jamie’s story, but also to Logan’s and Briar’s romance, the last book in the series!

I do have two things that made me remove a star.

I would not really classify the book as a Christian book, but the author is a Christian and so are her characters which is obvious through some rather light faith themes. There is talk about prayer, church and waiting for marriage.
But Daria goes to a yoga class and as a Christian myself, I really think this is not something to take lightly. Yoga is not just physical exercise and it saddens me how often yoga is part of Christian books and movies when just a little bit of research shows the spiritual meaning and impact of this inherently religious practice.
This yoga class only gets mentioned a few times, so it’s not really part of the plot, but I want other Christian readers to be aware of that, since I know I’m not the only one bothered by this.

What made me enjoy the book far less than Dulcie’s other books was Daria.
I usually love the snarky, sassy and sarcastic FMCs, but I have to say Daria was extremely resentful and almost bitter. Her sass was more biting than witty, her sarcasm bordered on cynical and I think it was mostly uncalled for.
Of course I could understand her disappointment. But despite the fact that she doesn’t even give Dane a chance to apologize or explain himself, I think her reaction is way over the top. Sure, ghosting someone isn’t really nice, but it’s not like he proposed and then vanished. They talked ONCE and despite the connection both felt - that was it. One evening where they talked, rather surface level since they didn’t even know about the other one’s jobs or families and then Dane didn’t reach out to her. I would be disappointed and hurt too. But the way Daria treats him after is immature and the situation blown out of proportion in my opinion.
Adding to that the complete 180 she makes about halfway through the novel without apparent reason (Dane was sweet the whole time, I don’t know what exactly made Daria change her mind about him) and that their connection seemed to be based too much on looks, I wasn’t really invested in their romance.
Their personal backgrounds were far more interesting as were the side characters and Daria was sadly a character I could feel for but annoyed the heck out of me.

Still looking forward to the next book in the series, hoping that Briar will be a bit more on the kind and humble side than Daria. ^^

💕 First read for Valentine's Day 💕
✨ 3.5 Stars✨

The book was cute! Fun scenes and not hardly any content concerns.

Daria felt fairly relatable personally, and I just wanted to give her a hug. Reading that she went to therapy and worked on herself made me so happy after everything she'd been through! 😊

Dane was cute, funny, and, to be honest, his OCD just made his character better as he nervously worried about her messes!

The side characters were awesome and adorable, too! Max was one of my favorites, along with the newly-wedded couple (not to mention a good deaf representation!)

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
As for content:
Plenty of mentions of attraction between the MCs, they kiss (a little more detailed than I was comfortable with) about five-ish times, mentions of living together in sin (since they aren't married when they move in, but, at the time, he was just helping a friend and they weren't dating). Dane is very big on having physical boundaries, especially when they live together, so they hardly kiss or cuddle during that time and don't officially date or get close until she moves out so they don't risk temptation (seriously, I loved this guy!). His mom is referred to as 'old-fashioned' because of her belief in being married before living together, but Daria sorta learns to respect it and Dane never actually disagrees with his mother.
Dane has an 'ex' (they went on ONE DATE) that is a stalker, and you learn she has showed up to his apartment, parents' house, etc. to find him. He previously had a restraining order against her. She (BIGGER SPOILER 😬) breaks into his and Daria's apartment to threaten them with a knife. She does stab Dane right before the cops arrive, but no gore or graphic content is shown.
It was all kinda freaky, though, but Dane is shown with a good support system and the situation felt appropriately handled.

I think the author handled it all fairly well, but, once again, I got a little uncomfortable and skimmed a page or two from the kiss descriptions. Otherwise, it was great, though I would have liked to see more than the barely-there, almost-odd (from lack of presence) faith/Christian element she used.

This was a wonderful forced proximity, enemies to lovers romance. The FMC goes through a learning-to-trust-and-open-up character arc, which was beautiful to read about.

Dane was such a sweet guy! He was genuinely giving and caring, even when Daria gave him nothing but negativity. She was understandably upset with him because she thought he ghosted her, but pretty snarky about it because of her guarded nature and childhood trauma. Dane wasn't perfect; sometimes his frustration got the better of him, but he often was the picture of giving without expecting something else in return (when he takes care of her particularly!).

Just like the first book in this series, the Kent family members pray before meals, and the matriarch upholds some Christian morals, but there's nothing about the content of their faith or other ways that it impacts characters' lives. It made me wonder what the point was of mentioning the prayers before meals and the fact that there wasn't more to their faith was a little disappointing.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, and I ate it up quickly. The romance was well paced, the MCs had great chemistry, even when Daria was intent on hating Dane! Their miscommunication about the aftermath of their first meeting wasn't contrived or frustratingly simple to solve. It was fun to be back with the Kent family again.

Tropes:
*second chance
*'enemies' to lovers
*forced proximity
*OCD & therapy rep
*sweet & salty
*dual POV
*he takes care of her
*he models for her

Content warning: childhood trauma (abandonment & foster care), OCD, stalking, physical assault with a knife
Romance level: 3.5 (moderate kissing/make outs, groan/moan mentioned)

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Normally I don't like to read books in the first person, present tense, but I managed to make it 80% of the way through this book before I even realised, so kudos to Dameron for her engaging writing.

I absolutely adored Parker and Jamie's story in book one of this series. It gave me all "The Office" vibes, and I was so here for it. This book reminded quite a lot of "A Make Out to Remember" in that it featured two characters who met once and had an instant attraction about a year before the events of the book, and then don't meet up again until they are forced to spend time together in a wedding party for their best friends.

I have to say, I struggled a lot with Daria's character in this book, especially at the start. She was so mean to Dane. I can understand, from what we learn about her back story, why she might feel rejected want to push him away. I can see why she would be wary of getting into a relationship with him. But when a guy offers you a place to live for six weeks until you can move into your apartment, it seems to height of ungraciousness to treat him like a complete jerk. It doesn't cost anything to be kind.

That being said, I liked her ambition to be a designer, and the fact that she had a plan to make her dream happen.

I enjoyed Dane's character, and I thought the stalking plot added to the tension in the book nicely. It also explained his hesitance to get into another relationship.

If you enjoyed enemies to lovers romances with swoony kisses, but no steam, this might just be the book for you (you should also read book 1 in the series; it's amazing!)

Spoke Too Soon is the second book in the Kissing a Kent Brother series. While those who have read the previous book will enjoy seeing some familiar characters, I do think this one could be enjoyed just fine as a standalone as well. (But the first book is great and one I'd highly recommend anyway!)

Once again, Dulcie Dameron has absolutely delivered with a story that is tender and sweet balanced perfectly with laugh out loud moments and hints of faith... and of course, sizzling kisses too. I loved the first book in this series and had high expectations for this one... and it absolutely lived up to those expectations and then some. Dane and Daria got off to a rough (second) start, but despite that big misunderstanding, there is definitely a lot of fire between them--- be it the disdain she has for him early on or the undeniable chemistry between them as they spend more time together as roommates... and I was here for all of it. Their story definitely has some real struggles (to include mentions of foster care, OCD and stalking), but I loved watching their growth through it all. And oh, those kisses! Honestly, Dulcie writes some of my absolute favorite kisses--- just the perfect amount of sizzle and swoon. This was a fantastic read, and I cannot wait to see what's going to happen next in the series.

Spoke Too Soon is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. There is some light Christian content as well-- mentions of prayer and Christian ideas on living together before marriage, etc.

Spice: kissing

Language: none

Another great Kent brother book! While wildly different than Jamie and Parker’s romance, I enjoyed reading about Daria and Dane.

Daria is a little rough around the edges with a “I’ll leave them before they have a chance to leave me” mentality. She’s sworn off serious dating and that applies even more to the one guy she was tempted do date and then ghosted by.

Dane has the characteristic charm and gentlemanly habits of the Kent brothers. He’s gorgeous, is a successful pilot and real estate entrepreneur, and is always willing to go out of his way to help others.

After a stalker situation, he’s scared to put himself back out there romantically. But when he meets Daria, all fear goes out the window and he wants to get to know her.

The problem: Daria says that he ghosted her awhile back and no longer wants anything to do with him. Dane spends a lot of time trying to prove to Daria that he’s a good guy who would never have left her on read.

Left with no other choice, Daria is forced to take Dane up on his offer to move in and be his roommate until she can afford a different apartment. She quickly realizes that he has OCD and is a neat freak and he learns that she is messy and sassy, even when he does his best to go out of his way for her.

But forced proximity not only shows you the bad, but the good in each other and Daria quickly realizes that Dane isn’t the jerk she made him out to be in her head.

I loved all of the sweet moments between Daria and Dane. She made him work for each one, but they were worth it.

Okay, I have been struggling with what to write about Spoke Too Soon, the newest from Dulcie Dameron. For the simple reason that I have so much to say about this amazing book, but then find myself thinking “No! I can’t say that! It will reveal too much!”so I decided I will just talk about the main characters.
Dane is incredibly sweet, loyal, compassionate… but he’s also real. He has some obsessive compulsive tendencies that come out a little more when he is nervous, which he absolutely is nervous when we first get to know him. He is coming off a scary situation with a stalker, so he’s definitely cautious.
Daria has incredible work ethic with big dreams, she’s incredibly loyal and loves with all she is, but she has walls thick and high. She doesn’t let many people in after a history in the foster system and a boyfriend who cheated on her. Opening her heart up to somebody new is a struggle.

Watching their interactions, their banter, and their hearts slowly opening to build towards their HEA was so worth the journey through this book. Go grab your copy today!

I was given a complimentary ebook. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

I did not know that Spoke Too Soon was part of a series when I started reading it. It is the second book in the Kissing a Kent Brother series, but they don't necessarily need to be read in order, although our two main characters meet at the end of the first book.

And forgive me for bursting your manly mustache bubble, but most girls don't want to kiss a guy with fur on his upper lip.

Daria and Dane met at a party and hit it off. However, when Daria texts him, she never hears back from him. When they meet again a year later, she is still bitter over it, but it also stems from childhood issues.

Dane is super sweet to Daria, even when she acts like a ninny toward him. He takes care of her despite her stubborn spirit.

Read for:

👗mutual pining

👗one-sided rivalry

👗forced proximity

👗she's a fashion designer

👗he's a pilot

👗LOL moments

👗chemistry

👗Daria's character growth

Overall, I enjoyed the story and immediately started reading the first book. I don't think the third book, Logan's story, has been released yet. However, I will be reading it when it releases 😀.

Another home run by Dulcie. This book is so cute, the main characters are super endearing, I got attached to them (they both have "issues" and not just the miscommunication between them), and I got VERY invested in the story, seeing them work things out, and them finding their HEA together. The supporting cast is also so likable and I'm already excited to read the next Kent brother book. Dulcie is one of my favorite romcom authors -- the writing just flows, it's believable and very witty, never hits me as contrived, and I'm never pulled out of the story because of weird word choice, etc. I laugh out loud a lot when I read her books, and that is definitely a sign of a winner for me. Oh and the romance/kisses are always on point (not steamy)!

This is book #2 in a series and I really really recommend reading book #1 (Sign Me Up) before this one if you can at all manage it. It can definitely be read as a standalone too though.

ARC provided to me, all honest opinions are my own.

This is the second book in the series , the first one was sign me up . I didn’t read the first one but Iam going to go back and read the first one . This was a really cute book and I read it in two days . The friends in the book were also from sign me up and going to be in other books . They were so cute and likable.
Daria and Dane are the two in the book and Daria can’t stand Dane because of a misunderstanding in the book . They have a lot of healing ( different types of healing in the book ) they both need to work on in the book mentions of prayer , stalking , foster care , OCD .
This is a clean book with closed door nothing but kissing and mentions of traditional marriage . Their chemistry is off the charts and the writing in the book made me want to keep reading to find out what happens next .
I love this type of genre of books happily ever after . You won’t be sorry if you read this book , and at the end there is another book coming with the third brother too. Thank you Dulcie for the ARC

I’ve tried to write this review for days, but when I read my highlights, I want to reread it ALL.

As always, I won’t rehash the blurb.

Dane and Daria are so real, I flinched at their arguments. The way they respond to each other is so raw, and their frustrations are only matched by their attraction.

Each of them filters their feelings through their own flaws and past hurts. Daria experienced a troubled childhood and a perceived rejection from Dane.
And even though Dane is apologetic and still very much interested in Daria, he’s not perfect.
He’s not a generic book boyfriend with no weaknesses or boundaries.
Dane has feelings too and there are times when Daria pushes the limits of his patience, although he is a few steps ahead of her in facing his internal struggles.

Spoke Too Soon is sizzling with Dulcie Dameron’s distinctive brand of romantic dramedy— which I will never get enough of.

You’ll laugh. You’ll swoon.

The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife, and you might even cry. But you definitely won’t regret it.

I have anticipated this book for a long time and it was so good!!! It had beautiful character growth and some great laugh out loud moments.

Last year, Daria got ghosted by Dane. Now she discovers that he is the brother of her best friend’s fiancée. They do NOT get along. But when Daria needs a place to stay temporarily, Dane offers his spare room. Can they find a truce? Can they finally open up?

Highlights:
Making the balloon arch
Jaime and Parker’s wedding is so sweet
Dane takes care of Daria
The fashion show!!!

I love Daria for being a creative designer. I love that she is sassy and independent.

I love Dane for being gentle and thoughtful. I love that he acknowledges his problem and is working on it.

““I’m a lot to handle, Dane, as you well know. I’m mean and messy and-“
“Mine,” he growls, tipping my chin up toward him.
“You’re mine. And I want all of you. Every bit you’ve tried to hide, every part that you think is ugly and I find adorable...everything.”

This was an ARC, all thoughts are my own.

2.5. Honestly I skimmed the last half of the book. Dane is a sweet soul who has his issues but he’s willing to work on them. Daria is so annoying and frustrating. She doesn’t give spicy/snarky woman she just gives a woman who’s taking out all her past issues/trauma on a guy who lets her stay in his apartment. I get her trauma and because she hasn’t dealt with it, it would pop up but oh my gosh this was so insufferable. He lets her stay in their apartment and from living with four people I can confidently say you can do what you want but you need to make sure it is okay with others first. Why would you put YOUR UNDERWEAR on a drying rack in the living room??? AND LEAVE THREE DAYS WORTH OF DISHES IN THE SINK?? Then when he tells you to just respect the space, you make it seem like he’s tryna tell you what to do?? Oh nah babyyyy. She kept saying she won’t let him put her back into a box but she kept trying to do the same to him. Even after Jamie mentioned his OCD, she said she wanted to say it was an excuse for his jerkiness. PLEASE BE SO FR. Other than that I liked the book.

This book picks up immediately after the first in the series, “Sign Me Up,” and what a whirlwind that is!  We’re thrown into the deep end and honestly, it’s all for the best!

Daria has been burned by life and when Dane comes on the scene, he’s the last man she would like to be paired up with for Maid of Honor/Best Man duties.  She has safeguarded her heart for years and a handsome face isn’t about to change her mind.  No matter how sweet and unassuming he may be!  Daria instead has chosen to attempt pursuing bigger dreams like getting her own fashion line setup, if she doesn’t become homeless first!

Dane is a pilot by trade, brother/best man, and Daria’s unofficial hero!  Dane knows there is a connection between him and Daria, even if she doesn’t want anything to do with him!  Love this guy!  He steps up, even when not asked (or goaded by his mother)!  He shows up and proves there is more than what her assumptions are!  This man may not be perfect but he’s close!

I loved this story from start to finish!  While there are some moments that are awkward and others that could come across as shocking, it doesn’t take away from my ability to love this book!  From helping with a well-intentioned balloon arch to being a male model, these connected in some unexpected ways and I’m here for it all!  Now let’s bring on the next book!  Job well done Dulcie!

I just finished Spoke Too Soon, which I read in 2 days (simply because I did, in fact, have to sleep!) It is the 2nd book in a series, but works just great as a stand alone. I haven't read the first Kent Brother book and this one has definitely made me want to go back and read Parker Kent's story. I really liked the characters in this one who each have some pretty serious baggage they are trying to lug around which makes them hesitant to act on their attraction for each other. But Dulcie has enabled them to allow love to help unload some of that baggage as they each learn to trust again. Dane's relentless obsession with Daria and trying to break through her stubborn walls was inspiring.
If you like sweet romance with a touch of faith involved, this is a great read. I certainly enjoyed it. There are some specific triggering issues that are dealt with gingerly.
I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Boy, I loved this book and definitely not for my usual reasons which is so refreshing! First of all, I didn’t love our fmc’s personality , but I liked that about this book because she was far from perfect and a good representation of what life can look like after foster care, it can definitely produce a hard heart if you weren’t nurtured by the right family. One thing I loved about this character is her love for sewing, I love fashion and we don’t get a lot of design centered representation in books. Now Dane was just a dream, so respectful, patient, and and a great son and brother. Not to mention I loved the forced proximity and ‘he takes care of her while sick’ tropes. The romance in this book was so sweet, I could’ve definitely read an entire second book of their story, that’s how much I loved it. This book would honestly make a great movie, I can’t wait to read the next book in the Kent brother series! I was approved for a ARC but all opinions are my own.🩷

These two are wonderful. If you're looking for a cute book that has a lot of heart and good story line, but no spice, this is it. You could read it as a standalone, but the first book is sweet too. Daria and Dane met a while ago and there were sparks, but when Daria texts him, he never responds. She is left to assume he ghosted her. Imagine her surprise when she realizes he is her best friend's brother in law. The two are forced together regarding wedding arrangements for Daria's best friend Jamie and Dane's brother, Parker. I appreciated the mental health rep pertaining to OCD for Dane and it was relatable and his character is just so sweet. In the beginning Daria was a bit difficult to love as she has the black cat energy I'm not usually a fan of, but the more you learn about her, the more lovable she becomes. The characters were both delightful and I read this book in one sitting. Super cute and I was rooting for them the whole time.

The first story in this series was my first experience with a DD novel. I have a fun sticker from Dulcie about "kissing a Kent brother," and boy, is another Kent about to be kissed! 💋

Dane and Daria had instant chemistry once-upon-a-time, but when she is ghosted (or did he not text?), a light rivalry ensues. Fast forward to a forced proximity roommate situation, and sparks will fly!

I've made it no secret that I like characters and stories with depth and grit, especially in a romcom. It lets me enjoy the story a little extra. Daria brings quite a bit of childhood baggage to the table as well as some communication issues. How hard is it when someone doesn't think they are worthy of love? But sweet, kind, and patient Dane is so awesome at breaking through those high walls. Dulcie is definitely the queen of the swoony on-page makeouts, and this one is worth a teensy bit of angst and miscommunication to get to.

Spoke Too Soon was a sequel worth waiting for!

I received a complimentary copy of the author's story to read and review. All thoughts contained here are my own.
