STUPID CAT - A Book That Will Wreck You (In the Best Way)
This book is going to change lives. It's raw, gut-wrenching, and uncomfortably honest. Stupid Cat isn't just about losing a pet-it's about losing yourself. It's about grief, depression, and that slow, stumbling crawl back toward hope. It's heavy and dark, but it's laced with the kind of humor only people who have truly suffered can understand.
Chuck Hawley doesn't hold back. He gives people permission to feel the things they might be afraid to say out loud. This book doesn't sugarcoat grief or wrap things up in a neat little bow. It wrecks you-and then, somehow, it puts you back together. Not in the way you were before, but in a way that makes you want to stay.
The title Stupid Cat is perfect. It lures you in with humor, with a wink and a nudge, and then punches you in the gut. Because grief is absurd. Depression is ridiculous. And the things that keep us here? Sometimes, they're as small and stupid as a cat, a sandwich, or a stranger in a craft store.
This isn't the kind of book people might expect from Chuck Hawley. It's not for kids. It's raw, real, and yes-there's strong language. But if you've ever been lost, if you've ever felt like you were standing on the tracks waiting for the train, this book is for you. Because maybe-just maybe-you don't have to get on.

I ran across Sticky and his dad on Facebook right after Chuck rescued Sticky. I was a huge fan from the start. I followed along during Sticky’s wonderful life and was heartbroken when he passed. I am still a huge fan even though Sticky may not be here. I’m thankful that Allen came along. I am also truly thankful for Chuck’s ability and willingness to write this book. When I started it, I did not stop until I was finished. A lot of what he wrote for me was like looking in a mirror. Please if you’re struggling, read this book. If you know anyone that is struggling, share it with them or just read it so you might can understand what some people go through. Chuck (Sticky’s Dad), you have done an amazing, amazing job with this book. You should be extremely proud.
I've followed Sticky the Kitty and Chuck for years on social media, and I've bought and read a number of his books. This book is quite different from the others but very important, dealing with grief, depression and suicide. It's raw and real and gives us a glimpse of what folks struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts are going through on the inside. I appreciated the final chapter with his list of things that helped him. And I wish Chuck and his family a happy, healthy future.
But this book made me cry, made smile & made my heart glad that he didn’t get on that train. He would be so missed. Now I’m almost as in love with Allen as I was with Sticky. I’ve lost both my sons & miss them. Chuck is my son from another mother, & whether we ever meet in person he is in my heart. I feel you & I see you.❤️💞💕 thank you for writing this book. I almost took this train many years ago. Not meant to be.
