When Nurse Sidney Jones joins her fiancé on a humanitarian mission to Papua New Guinea, she expects to save lives—not fight for her own.
Ambushed and captured by a rival tribe on the brink of war, Sidney finds herself thrust into a world governed by nature, far removed from the comforts of America, and the enigmatic chief, whose dark eyes conceal both pain and passion, challenges everything she has ever known about life and love.
As tensions within the tribe escalate, Sidney must navigate a treacherous web of loyalty and control, where surrendering her heart may be the only way to survive—and to heal.
A story of love and war, exploring the internal struggles we all face between head and heart, wrath and wisdom, duty and desire. A journey through the duality of opposing forces, and the hope of finding our way forward.
I am not typically a reader. I started off slow but over Spring Break, it was hard for me to put this book down. I felt pulled into the setting. I laughed, I cried, I rejoiced! This was a great read!
A beautiful story of truth, grace, and love. The story pulls you in and you feel like you are there in Papua New Guinea with them. Will definitely be reading this one again!
I stumbled across Crossfire (Crossfire Chronicles Book 1) by Anna Wright almost by accident when its thumbnail cover caught my attention while scanning Amazon Kindle for my next great read. If the cover hadn’t caught my attention, I could have missed the reading experience of a lifetime. Having recently finished it, I can say without hesitation that it is one of the best novels I have read in a long time—on many levels. It is well written, has a powerful message, is a true cliffhanger, and has an ending that could not have been better crafted. The characters are very real, well developed, and draw the reader deeply into their personal space, flaws and all. Anna Wright is a truly gifted writer, and Crossfire is, in my opinion, a blockbuster bestseller just waiting to be discovered. I have no doubt that Crossfire is an important piece of literature. It is the best account I have read yet, fiction or nonfiction, on (1) the needless warring between tribes, and by extension, regions and nations worldwide; and (2) the many similarities and shared values between cultures at opposite ends of the geographical and sociological spectrum. Anna Light’s story of two highland tribes in Papua New Guinea may be fictional, but it clearly, and I am sure, accurately depicts the lives and struggles, the spiritual and material experiences, and the vulnerabilities of these remote "primitive" peoples and how similar they are to us in the “developed” world. In short, Crossfire is a book of such import that I would hate to see it die on the vine for lack of the exposure it deserves. The only flaws I could find in this self-published novel are its lack of professional copyediting and a few confusing paragraphs that could be better constructed. But these flaws, easily corrected in a second edition, should not distract in any way from the book’s relevance.
With Anna’s descriptions, I was immersed, feeling as if I was living in the jungle alongside Sidney and the Hundi. She captured the longing we all have to live in community with a freedom that can only be found in slowing down and soaking up the natural world surrounding us.
This book has so much to offer: Romance, struggles, anticipation, and ultimately, grace.
If you are wanting to read a book you just can’t put down, this is it! The author takes the reader on a journey from America to the jungles of Papúa New Guinea and also through the journey of challenging life and love decisions. You will fall in love with the characters and will be aching for more when this story comes to a close. I highly recommend this debut novel! Available on Amazon.
A fantastic debut! Crossfire is a beautiful story that is at turns gritty, funny, and heartwarming. Grab your popcorn for a thrilling adventure through the jungles of Papua New Guinea! I enjoyed every second!
I love a good novel with drama, surprises and an unexpected ending. This is the most unusual love story I’ve read yet. I’ll definitely read it again. Looking forward to the next story as I love the characters in this story.
This book was amazing! It kept me drawn in and the story was detailed so beautifully! I 100% recommend this book. It normally takes me a long time to finish a book because I’m a slower reader, but I finished this in 2 days!
I could not put this book down. It was an amazing read. I loved the different point of views from the two main characters. The story was beautifully written and it just flowed so well.
The story in Crossfire was so original and interesting! Anna crafted a beautiful story highlighting redemption and connection while exploring conflict. I definitely enjoyed it!
I couldn’t put it down. At times was my heart was racing, and more than once I was literally moved to tears. Can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out.
I love reading. I love reading great stories. And I love stories that hold my attention so well that I cannot put the book down. This is one of those books. found no grammatical errors, and that’s a huge plus! It’s been a bit since I initially read Crossfire and yet the story remains in my thoughts. Now the story itself is a multiple storyline. And yet it all worked together within their own stories. No way could I figure out the ending. No spoilers here, yet even though it’s somewhat historical, I related to so much! And the ending left me with faith and hope. Thank you, Anna Light, for putting your stories to paper. I am anxiously awaiting the next book of yours!!
