Years ago, I accepted that football would always be a part of my life. I just didn’t know how.

When I met Wyatt Stone, I figured the game would weave its way into my young heart and become a part of my first real love. When I married him, I assumed my life would follow the same path as my mother’s—the wife of an NFL quarterback, with all the highs and lows that come along with it.

But when Wyatt didn’t get picked in the draft, everything changed. And Wyatt’s light, however hard he fought to keep it alive, dimmed. Football has a funny way of operating in this family, though. It lingers, like the haze that hovers over my family’s ranch fields in the Arizona desert horizon.

For my dad, the game stuck around through coaching, and Wyatt thought maybe that was enough for him too. But football had other plans. A second chance at glory. A renewed spark in his soul, calling him to give the dream one more shot. And as much as I want to keep him close, to start our family and walk a new path—one that football doesn’t get to dictate—I know that when it comes to this game, I’ve never really called the shots. I’ve merely gone along for the ride. I just hope that this time it doesn’t break my heart completely.

First and foremost, I want to thank Ginger for another amazing book to escape with for a while.

From start to finish, I was completely sucked into this world by humor, heart, spice, and, of course, the characters. The personalities of the characters and how well their stories are told; how they interacted and intertwined through this journey was, as always, masterfully done.

I have to say Wyatt Stone is definitely in my favorite Hero pile.

I feel like Ginger gave me a cozy, perfect temperature blanket, a perfect cup of coffee with a cool breeze, and one of those best hugs I get from someone who genuinely cares. That's what reading Final Down was like for me.

It is, in my opinion, a perfect sports romance read.

I read this book as an ARC, and this is my honest review.

Final Down is the last book in The waiting series next generation. We are at the end of this great, emotional journey written by Ginger Scott.

After the scare of the previous book, I was so glad to see Peyton and Wyatt relationship still going strong. They overcame the obstacles in their lives, and now they are ready to get and enjoy their happily ever after.

I love Peyton and Wyatt. They are strong, sweet, compassionate, and competitive individually, but together they are exceptional. They are a unit, they handle problems together, they don't make decisions without the knowledge of the other.

Ginger Scott has done it again. I absolutely adored this trilogy, and I highly recommend it.

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

I'm starting to become a broken record (if anyone even gets that reference these days) when it comes to this series, but I'm going to go ahead and say it again. When Ginger Scott released The Hail Mary, I remember thinking I was glad Scott wrote another book in The Waiting series when I didn't know I needed it. That is exactly how I felt after reading Game Face and now again with Final Down. Peyton and Wyatt were in a great place when I left them and that could have been it. Luckily, Ginger Scott gave us all one final down with these amazing characters.

In Final Down, Peyton and Wyatt are grownups living their grownups lives. They are building a life together in Coolidge, moving forward, and trying not to look back. A baby is their next dream, and the emotional toll is a lot for Peyton. Wyatt is happy mentoring the next crop of football players alongside Reed, but when the opportunity for one of his other lifelong dreams comes up, he has to take it. Peyton and Wyatt know the choice to return to football will change their lives and both are hoping it is for the better.

Peyton and Wyatt were as strong and steady as ever in this book. Peyton was still dealing with some of the insecurities and aftermath of her injury. Wyatt was there to support her in any way she needed with his love. The same goes for Peyton. With every step Wyatt took with football, Peyton was there to lift him up. The confidence they had in each other made for sweet and exceptional moments in this story. All of the ups and downs they went through to get to their HEA only made their relationship stronger. I loved every minute of this final journey together.

As always, this book wouldn't have been what it was without the supporting characters. Peyton and Wyatt's families added so much love and support, as did their friends Tasha and Whiskey. I also enjoyed meeting up and comer Chance. He slowly grew on me, and I wouldn't mind if Ginger Scott felt inspired to give us his story at some point.

Overall, Final Down was a fitting end to Peyton and Wyatt's story. I'm sad this series has come to an end, but I'm happy thinking they are off enjoying their lives in Arizona. Maybe someday they will be a cameo in another book, and I'll get to see them again. I can't wait to find out what Ginger Scott is writing next.

Final Down is Wyatt and Peyton's conclusion. Book #3 of the Waiting Series, Next Generation. You must read Home Game and Game Face first (books #1 & 2).

Game Face gave Peyton and Wyatt their happy ending...for now! It was sort of an unexpected ending. Now five years later Peyton and Wyatt are living life and doing their thing. Football is never far away as Wyatt helps Reed to coach the high school team. However...

Football has a funny way of operating in this family, though. It lingers, like the haze that hovers over my family’s ranch fields in the Arizona desert horizon.

Wyatt gets a second chance at football and with that comes all of the ups, down, fears and exhilaration. Together with Payton they face everything that life & football throws their way. Wyatt is such a strong character. He is so sincere and heartfelt. When he gave it all up for Peyton - oh, my heart! And Peyton! She has such great qualities from her mom and her fierce determination from her dad. Game Face was quite a ride with a beautiful ending.

Ginger Scott writes such amazing, heartfelt, nostalgic stories. Packed with grand gestures, romance, and angst. All while tugging at your heartstrings! Waiting on the Sidelines (WOTS) was a favorite for me. As I wrote in my 2019 review: Waiting On The Sidelines is an amazing and emotional story that will leave your heart thumping! I was so excited when Ginger released Home Game in October which had all of the WOTS "feels."

Wyatt didn't get picked in the draft so now he helps his father-in-law coaching the high school football team while his wife Peyton is helping her mom working with the horses. Oh and they're trying for a baby. But life has other plans. The NFL noticed Wyatt in a summer league and is Portland is calling his name. it’s his second chance at that professional sports life he always dreamed of. But then there’s Peyton, their life in Arizona, their future family ahead and the question: will they be able to stay as close as they are now or will they grow apart.

Final Down is the third and last book of the The Waiting Series Next Generation Series. I guess you could read the books independently but honestly it was such a joy to see Wyatt and Peyton grow from high school kids to adults that you just don't want to miss any of it.

When I started this series I never would have thought that I would love the books and especially the characters as much as I do now. But Ginger Scott, Wyatt, Peyton and Arizona proofed me wrong. And boy was I wrong. Final Down is the perfect ending for our journey with Wyatt, Peyton and the Johnsons family and friends. We finally get to read about Wyatt playing in the NFL and the way he graciously navigates being on of the older guys on the team and also trying to fit football and family into his life. I love Wyatt's calm and easy going personality and the way he approaches life. He definitely has his priorities in order and I really love that about him. Book 2 hast focused a lot on Peyton so now it was Wyatts turn but I don’t think Peyton disappeared into the background. I loved the way she managed to find herself not only as an NFL wife but also as her own person. I think that was just amazing. As always the whole Johnson family was involved in this book and I wouldn’t have it any other way, because you just cannot not love this family.

I couldn’t have imagined a more satisfying conclusion to this trilogy. Peyton and Wyatt’s journey has been marked by heartache and hardship, yet their unwavering loyalty and love for one another remained a constant force. In this final installment, Wyatt—now in his late twenties—is presented with an unexpected opportunity to re-enter the NFL, a chance to reclaim a dream he thought he had long left behind.
Wyatt has earned a spot among my all-time favorite sports romance heroes. His steadfast heart, quiet strength, and fierce love for Peyton make him an unforgettable character. Watching his devotion unfold was deeply moving—every gesture, every moment, spoke volumes about the kind of man he is.
The sports elements in the story were authentic and engaging, seamlessly woven into the emotional arc and keeping me thoroughly invested. And the epilogue? It felt like a perfectly tied ribbon on a beautifully wrapped gift. I closed the book with a full heart and a smile that lingered long after the final page.

Damn, Wyatt and Peyton stole my heart! Their journey from high school sweethearts through college and heartbreak was emotional and beautiful, but getting to catch up with them a few years later made it even better. When Wyatt gets a shot at the NFL, everything they’d planned for their future is suddenly up in the air. Is he too old? Can they adjust the life they’ve already built together?

They’re faced with big decisions and major life changes, both individually and as a couple, but with the unwavering support of their family, they tackle it all. This story was the perfect blend of spice, emotion, and chasing your dreams. The whole series had me feeling all the feels and rooting for Wyatt and Peyton every step of the way.

This is the 3rd book in the series. You do need to read the books in the series. Each pick up where the previous leaves off.

Peyton, has re-learned how to walk, and ride her horse. She is almost back to normal after her spinal injury. She still gets cramping sometimes but it able to make the cramps stop. Peyton isn't sure what she wants to do with her life. She wants to help the cheer team at her old high school the same one her dad coaches at. She knows coaching the cheer team isn't the same as being on the cheer team, like when she was doing it. She wants to be helpful in her community and have meaning in her life.

Wyatt Stone, is an assitant football coach at the high school, helping his father in law, Reed. Until he gets a invite for a try out for a NFL team up in Oregon. Once Wyatt and his friend Whiskey have their try out, he receive news that they want him for 1 yr. Peyton and him agree they can do it for 1 yr. Wyatt will live in Oregon a short distance from the stadium, while Peyton lives on the ranch with her family. Peyton goes to most of the away games, and even most of the home games while he is playing and she is coaching.

Wyatt has always missed football ever since he left after high college days to help Peyton recover. Now that he's an adult and working mainly with the kids and football he still loves the trill of being out on the field with a team.

Will Wyatt and Peyton be able to continue the traveling for football? Will Peyton be ok to travel with her past injury? Will the NFL team keep Wyatt or will they drop him for the new younger quarterback?

I did receive a free ARC Book Copy. I am freely leaving an honest book review.

Wyatt and Peyton, how am I supposed to say goodbye to you? I’ve watched you two fall in love in high school, weather the heartbreak and grit of college (and a life-altering injury), and now here you are—married, maturing, and navigating new dreams that don’t come with the shiny ease of youth.

In Final Down, Ginger Scott delivers a swoon-worthy, emotional, and incredibly satisfying conclusion to this powerhouse trilogy. Wyatt gets a once-in-a-lifetime NFL contract—years after his college prime and Peyton is building something just as meaningful on her family’s ranch, leading horse therapy and continuing her recovery. What makes this story so special is how real it feels. It’s not just about chasing big dreams—it’s about growing into them together.

Watching them balance marriage, healing, new ambitions, and the curveballs of adulthood. The love is deep. The stakes are high. And the epilogue is pure full-circle perfection. I closed this book with happy tears and a heart that felt like it had just gotten the warmest hug.

Ginger Scott, thank you for giving us this couple, this journey, and this beautifully layered ending. I’m still rooting for Peyton and Wyatt—even if it’s from the sidelines now. 💛

A perfect ending to an amazing series and I am not ready to say goodbye. I love this series so much. Wyatt and Peyton are such genuine and lovable characters, watching them fall in love as kids and getting a front row seat to their love story through the years has been an absolute treat. This will go down as one of my favorite, feel-good series.

My heart is full. Like overflowing kind of full because Ginger Scott wrote her own heart out with this wonderful conclusion to the Waiting: Next Generation trilogy. If I was in complete love with Wyatt Stone before, that was nothing! He steps up in every single way as he tries to navigate a new opportunity to play professional football in Portland, Oregon while trying his hardest not to miss his girl Peyton, as she keeps the home fires burning in Arizona. This husband and wife, however, are as solid as any couple could possibly be because the way they fully support one another's dreams is a thing of beauty.

The ups and downs Wyatt and Peyton have experienced in this heartfelt trilogy might destroy some couples. But time and again, no matter what is thrown at them, they manage to work it through and decide what is best together. These two are a team in every sense of the word and I loved how Scott uses both their disciplines, his in football and hers in cheer, as the continued backbone for finding the right course for them both.

There are plenty of witty moments from the many secondary characters that make up this marvelous crew. Reed Johnson is a standout since he is still the ornery guy we all know and love yet his devotion to his family is second to none and I loved how he could tease with the best of them and then shed a rare tear when something took his breath away. He adores his life and I'd like to think despite his rough side that he and Nolan were the best examples of how to navigate the hard stuff. With Wyatt's late father never far from his thoughts, I'd say he and Peyton truly had the very best role models in which to live their own lives. Flaws and all.

The entire Stone-Johnson family is a huge highlight and the advice Wyatt and Peyton continue to get with respect to their professional futures and their personal ones helps guide them over and over again. And to see both Wyatt and Peyton become strong in their own right is a true testament to the unwavering support they have been lucky enough to receive.

I won't go into great detail as to what Peyton and Wyatt go through to find that perfect symmetry going forward. But I will share that I was overcome more than once with emotion as they had each other's backs always and that their chemistry both in and out of the bedroom was something to be admired. These two are the real deal and I'm so glad Scott didn't throw in some 3rd act breakup to keep the story flowing. Instead, she showed that even in the happiest of unions, things don't always go to plan, yet those obstacles and roadblocks lend enough drama and angst to keep a reader interested.

This book exemplified the very meaning of loyalty, resilience, determination and most importantly, family. There were so many moments that brought tears to my eyes at the realization of how far Wyatt and Peyton have come in their young lives. It's a ride I wouldn't have missed for the world and for me, this is truly some of Ginger Scott's best work to date. Even with all the mayhem, ups and downs and disappointments, it's the love between Wyatt and Peyton that never falters which in the end is all that matters. And these two know how to love each other something fierce and there is simply nothing better than that.

5++ huge stars!

Final Down is the perfect conclusion to the Waiting Second Generation series, delivering a beautifully woven narrative that wraps up the journeys of beloved characters in a way that is satisfying. Having fallen in love with Nolan and Reed’s angsty romance in the Waiting Series, I was thrilled to dive back into this world, and Peyton and Wyatt’s story did not disappoint. Their relationship is a testament to resilience, weathering numerous bumps and obstacles along the way, and their unwavering support for each other makes every moment of their journey worthwhile.

“You both had great loves. It’s so easy at the beginning to imagine that the road is going to go one way, but that’s not how adventures work. Love and life aren’t simply a trip. They’re a journey. And we must be willing to ebb and flow, to bend with the curves…”

This reflection encapsulates the essence of the book, highlighting that the complexities of love ultimately shapes who we are.

The introduction of characters like Wyatt's former rival turned champion, Bryce, adds depth to the Wyatt's narrative, while new rival Chance injects a much-needed layer of conflict. Chance serves as a great antagonist—someone you love to dislike, driving the stakes higher for Wyatt. Additionally, Peyton's grandfather, Buck, emerges as a hilarious, sage patriarch, embodying the wisdom and warmth that anchors the Johnson family. Ellie Johnson is equally delightful, adding a touch of relatable teenage exuberance that lightens the story.

Final Down masterfully unites the Johnsons, the Stones, and a host of beloved characters into an extended family that thrives on kindness and ethics, creating a sense of community that feels real and aspirational. Ginger Scott has crafted treasured characters whose journeys inspire us to “do better” and “play with heart.”

The storytelling shines through a dual POV from Wyatt and Peyton, allowing us to connect deeply with both protagonists. In a beautiful twist, the story concludes with a perspective from family patriarch Buck, delivering a heartfelt reflection that resonates with love and wisdom. The poignant message, “This life will knock you on your ass, but if you’re ready, it is worth the trouble,” encapsulates the essence of their journey, reminding readers that the trials we face enhance the beauty in our lives.

Thank you, Ginger Scott, for a book that not only made me smile and reminisce about the joys of starting a family but also brought me to tears. "Final Down" is a remarkable, heartfelt story that encapsulates love, growth, and the beauty of connections. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking a poignant journey of love and family, and it will undoubtedly leave you feeling enriched and inspired.

The Waiting: Next Generation Series (trilogy) by Ginger Scott

*Home Game
*Game Face
*Final Down

Ginger Scott is an author I don't see talked about much here and I wanted to spread the love for a perfect fall football romance trilogy.

I read Home Game last month and it was such a beautiful and sweet YA / New Adult romance that really dove deeper into the life of the mcs, Wyatt and Peyton.

Wyatt, the new quarterback that recently moved to town, finds his match in Peyton, the daughter of the coach the dominant school and his teams main rival. That's a fun hook, but where Ginger excels is she dives in so much farther than just the trope. There is a maturity that shines through her characters, that are grounded and authentic, and I kept thinking through book 1, that she really knows how to write such a warm story, filled with characters you will absolutely love by the end.

Books 2 and 3? They get even better in my opinion. While Game Face focuses on college years, and Final Down is the story fully into adulthood, the things that make this trilogy such a beautiful journey are threaded throughout all 3.

*Football - it is truly a character and not just a trope
*Family - both on and off the field
*Wyatt Stone - he's the stuff all the great book bf's are made of and he'll be in my heart for such a long time
*Peyton Johnson - she's so strong and resilient and mature, that you can't help but just root for her every single step of the way
*Fall and Smalltown vibes - its very much a love story with football surrounding all of it, so the Fall vibes are strong in each book

I cried quite a few times, especially in books 2 and 3. Not because of how angsty or tragic or horrifying things were. Its not that kind of story. Its because Ginger Scott's care in her writing shines through with a realism, that you can't help but become attached and so invested in their stories.

This was the feel of high school and college and life after, figuring out adulthood. This was the memories of Friday Night Lights and Saturday tailgates and now, loving NFL Sundays. This was the feeling of caring for characters in some of my favorite TV Shows - This is Us, Parenthood, and Friday Night Lights (the same creators are attached to each of those...so no wonder why this trilogy hit so well).

If you want an easy trilogy to fall for, in football season, with small town vibes and a love story that will make you just feel warm and gooey inside, I can't recommend this enough. Everytime I read a Ginger Scott book, I think...I can't let as much time go by before reading another. This time, I felt that even more.

This was my first Ginger Scott book and it did not disappoint and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get into the story since it was the last book but shoot, it sucked me right in. I LOVED both Peyton and Wyatt so much. They both brought the story alive and carried it through to the end. Plus they are college sweethearts. And now they are building their lives as grownups.

From start to finish, I was completely sucked into this world by humor, heart, spice, and, of course, the characters. The personalities of the characters and how well their stories are told; how they interacted and intertwined through this journey was, as always, masterfully done.

In Final Down, Peyton and Wyatt are grownups living their grownups lives. They are building a life together in Coolidge, moving forward, and trying not to look back.

Hopefully he grows into a more mature man before we see his book, though. I’m just saying. That part of the book where Wyatt was more of a mentor for him rather than showing everyone what he has to offer saddened me. But chapter 36 when Bryce was able to make “the storm” for Wyatt and Peyton I had goosebumps, he was finally getting what he wanted and that was his family and where he grew up as a legacy.

When a series ends it is always bittersweet for me. I have come to love characters and their stories and while I am happy to get the final chapter, I always feel sad that I won’t learn anything new about them. But I do know that the series can’t go on forever and their ending is just as important as their beginning. Ginger Scott has closed out her Next Generation series with the Final Down.
These books have brought me laughter, tears, and so much joy and the series ended in the best way!

Peyton and Wyatt have grown up and are now in adulthood together. Figuring out next steps while they maneuver next steps with their careers and family. When they decide having a baby is their next dream, I was excited for them. However, Ginger takes us on an emotional ride as Petyon struggles to get pregnant and life continues to throw curve balls. When Wyatt has the opportunity to return to football like he always dreamed, passing up the opportunity isn’t an option. With football coming back in a big way, they have to consider what this means for them and their growing family.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Peyton and Wyatt throughout this series. Their love is solid and they support each other through everything. This love for each other is evident throughout the story, but Ginger doesn’t downplay the challenges that come with loving someone. They face hardship and challenges, but always face them together, hand in hand. Reading about their love always made my heart sing and this book is no different. They show up for each other, walking through life together.

Ginger brought back amasking side characters as well with their families and friends. Throughout each book these people have stood by Petyon and Wyatt always supporting and lifting them up. Every interaction reminds you that family shows up for each other and even when they may not agree, they support the decisions made. The family dynamics in this entire series is top tier and tugs on my heartstrings.

With this series ended, I am excited to see what Ginger writes next as there is a new character in this book I wouldn’t mind getting a story of.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Not realizing I required another installment in The Waiting series, I remember feeling relieved when Ginger Scott released The Hail Mary. Having read Game Face and now Final Down, I experienced exactly the same feelings. It could have been that Peyton and Wyatt were succeeding when I departed from them. Thanks to these amazing characters, Ginger Scott happily provided us one final opportunity.

In this book, Peyton and Wyatt stayed determined and strong. Peyton was still dealing with the aftermath of her injury and certain insecurities. Wyatt was present to assist her in any way she required, fueled by his affection. Peyton is experiencing the same situation. Peyton was present to motivate Wyatt with every football stride. The mutual trust between them created sweet and unforgettable moments in this tale. Their bond was only reinforced by all the highs and lows they experienced on their quest for their HEA. I really appreciated our recent trip together.

The various supporting members that make up this incredible team offer numerous funny instances. Reed Johnson is remarkable because, while he remains the nerdy individual we all cherish, his devotion to his family is unparalleled. I also loved how he could playfully tease them like nobody else and then weep at anything that moved him to tears. Even with his tough demeanor, I think he and Nolan exemplified how to manage challenging circumstances effectively. He adores his existence. Wyatt and Peyton have excellent role models to look up to in life, always keeping his late father in his thoughts.

This book perfectly embodied loyalty, determination, resolve, and—most importantly—family. The awareness of how much Wyatt and Peyton had achieved in their young lives brought me to tears many times. I believe this is among Ginger Scott's finest achievements so far, and it's an experience I wouldn't have wanted to miss for anything. Ultimately, what truly counts is the steadfast love between Wyatt and Peyton, despite the turmoil, highs and lows, and letdowns. There is truly nothing greater than the deep love these two share for each other.

Love and life aren’t simply a trip. They’re a journey.

I have truly enjoyed the journey that Peyton and Wyatt’s life and love have taken me on throughout this series. Final Down is the capstone to this delightful series that has taken us through high school football games, desert parties and bonfires, young love, tumultuous college years, injuries, new adult challenges, marriage, careers, and babies all with a small-town Arizona backdrop. This particular book delivers a feel-good romance that absolutely warmed my heart and had me smiling all the way to the end. (Mostly smiling, anyway. I may have shed a happy tear or two along the way.) Wyatt and Peyton’s love story absolutely stole a little piece of my heart. They are lovely main characters with a captivating dynamic and a love for the ages. You genuinely root for them as they navigate their life and love. We also get to check in with our some of our favorite supporting characters and meet a few new ones along the way. The cast of characters continues to add layers of depth, charm and humor to the story. The storyline itself isn’t necessarily anything novel, but I still loved watching Peyton and Wyatt overcome challenges and grow together. There are obstacles, of course, but overall, this is low angst as the characters conquer them with their wit and heart. This is well paced, and it kept me invested on the way to the long awaited happily ever after. Grampa Buck’s POV in the epilogue was the perfect way to say goodbye too although I do hope that we see these characters and this world again sometime. In the end, this is a beautiful and heartwarming love story that sucks you in, makes you feel all the things, and leaves you optimistic and satisfied about life and love.

This is Book 3 of Waiting: Next Generation Series!

I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC 🥰

Final Down is a beautifully written, deeply emotional love story that explores the complex intersection of marriage, dreams, and the all-consuming world of football.
Peyton grew up understanding football’s gravity—what it gives, and more importantly, what it takes. Being the daughter of a coach and marrying her high school sweetheart, Wyatt Stone, a star quarterback with a promising future, it was always a given that the game would shape her life. But when Wyatt doesn’t get drafted, the future they imagined begins to fracture.

As Wyatt wrestles with lost potential and unfulfilled dreams, Peyton tries to hold their marriage together, even as the emotional distance between them grows. Life on the sidelines—watching someone you love slowly dim—isn't easy. But when football unexpectedly comes knocking again, offering Wyatt a second chance, Peyton is left facing her deepest fear: What if chasing this dream breaks them for good?

Final Down isn’t your typical sports romance—it’s deeper. Ginger Scott captures the aching reality of what it means to build a life with someone chasing a dream, and the toll that dream can take on both people. Peyton’s quiet sacrifices and Wyatt’s struggle to rediscover his purpose make this story heartbreaking and hopeful in equal measure. It’s about resilience, rediscovering connection, and learning when to fight for each other even when life doesn't follow the original playbook.

I truly hope this is not the last book I get to read in the Johnson/Stone family saga, but if it is, Ginger Scott gave us a gem of a finale!

Fast forwarding 5-6 years beyond the previous book, Game Face, Wyatt and Peyton are living on the Johnson ranch, working with Peyton’s parents, and hoping to add to their family soon. Wyatt is coaching alongside Peyton’s dad, having found his calling as a coach, after not finding success in the NFL as they’d hoped. But when fate offers them another opportunity at that dream, Wyatt and Peyton are faced with some big decisions.

At 28, Wyatt has not changed a bit, in the best possible way. He is still the gentleman raised by Todd Stone, and his father’s memory and character still drive his decision making and desire to succeed in a way that would make his dad proud. I loved the relationship that Wyatt and Reed have, working closely together at Coolidge High, almost as father and son. Peyton is truly living the life of her dreams, living and working in Arizona, alongside her family and Wyatt.

Wyatt and Peyton are still hopelessly in love, and continue to bring out the best in each other, willing to make sacrifices to allow the other to thrive and achieve their dreams. This book, if it is the final chapter, is a love note to the Johnson family, Arizona, and the town of Coolidge. I will miss these characters, but kudos to Ginger Scott for closing them out on a high note!

- Football romance
- Small town
- Second generation

Thank you to the author and Wordsmith Publicity for giving me the opportunity to review this ARC!

This was a 3 star read for me, as is the rest of the series, but I just have to mention that this one is probably a 3.5 and that it is because of one scene near the end of the book. Wyatt called Reed “dad” and it actually really choked me up and I had a couple of tears. I honestly really love their relationship, and am glad that they each have each other and fill a role for the other. Now back to Wyatt and Peyton, we meet them here nearing 30, struggling for a baby and Wyatt contemplating going back to the NFL. Peyton had her reservations but it was clear Wyatt was excited and even though Peyton was supportive and let him do what he chose, it didn’t really feel like they both had their hearts in the decision and were fully committed to it. And I didn’t really like that it felt like Wyatt felt like he couldn’t have both. But of course things work out how they are supposed to and he gets the best of both worlds - football and family, and can live happily ever after and I am happy at that. It was a good way to end this series and I loved hearing from Buck in the epilogue. Overall, I would say this series maybe wasn’t as engaging to read for me personally and it took me a while to get into the flow of the books, compared to the original trilogy but Peyton and Wyatt were much more likeable main characters for me. And their relationship much more stable and calm compared to Reed and Nolan’s. On the whole though, I have enjoyed reading this series and will probably try some other books by this author.

I'll admit that I still haven't read The Waiting Series, but I've loved the Next Generation series, and the original is on my TBR. This is the third and final book in the Next Gen series and you do need to read at least those first two books before reading this one.

Wyatt and Peyton have made a comfortable and happy life for themselves even though Wyatt's dreams of being drafted into the NFL slipped through his fingers. Football will always be a part of their lives in some way. They're content and ready to move on and start a family, but what happens when a second chance comes calling?

This final book in the Waiting series is a perfect ending to Wyatt and Peyton's story, and I must say that I'm going to miss all of these characters so much. In this particular book though, there were several characters that I can definitely live without! This author does a great job of making you both love and dislike characters in equal measure, and there were so many times throughout this book that I just wanted to grab Wyatt and take him back home to Peyton!

This story kept me turning the pages, both wanting Wyatt's dreams to come true while also just wanting him and Peyton to be happy. These two have been through so much together and they earned that HEA!

The author hints that she will never say never to visiting this world again, and if she does, I'll be going right back along with her.

Wyatt Stone and Peyton Johnson continue their love story in the final installment of her Waiting: Next Generation trilogy showing that their strength had prevailed. Nothing seemed like a sacrifice for this pair who knew what was most important to both of them in their relationship. With their priorities straight this couple were relationship aspirations. Each other's best friend and the reason to look forward, these two felt authentic and real in their life trials. What stood out was how supportive Wyatt and Peyton were and how their love only grew and strengthened over time.

Wyatt continued to be the kind of character that set the bar for romance heroes. His unquestionable devotion and focus on Peyton was a testament to his love for her both in good and bad times. Peyton's love and passion for Wyatt stood the test of time. Her focus on what was important in life gave her an outlook that was capable of accepting what she had even while never settling for less than what she wanted.

This young couple showed maturity throughout this series with the intensity of their love and the integrity of their relationship. The dynamic of their desire was only strengthened by the depth of their friendship. As both Wyatt and Peyton finally were able to move past their life difficulties and dreams came to fruition readers will be hard pressed not to cheer them on. To see this couple get everything and more that they deserved was the ultimate finale to their love story and worth every tear and smile along the way!

Ginger Scott brings depth to her stories that draws her readers in. With a remarkable sense of home and family this author shares some insightful stories that inevitability win over audience. Ginger Scott's Final Down brings life full circle showing love at it’s finest for a rewarding conclusion to her Waiting: Next Generation trilogy!

Final Down: The Waiting Series Next Generation by Ginger Scott is the final book in the Series Next Generation sports series featuring the now-married couple Wyatt Stone and Payton Johnson. Wyatt is co-coaching football with his father-in-law, former NFL player Reed Johnson. At the same time, Payton desires to become a mother to Wyatt’s children. Wyatt willingly gave up the possibility of going pro after college when Payton had a cheering tumbling accident that broke her spine. Instead of leaving Payton to deal with her accident without him, Wyatt stood by her during her recovery, culminating in their marriage. Now, six years later, his friend-enemy (Payton’s ex), Brice, offers Wyatt an opportunity to go to Portland and play professional football. Not necessarily being the favored quarterback but needing to prove his worth and the QB1 position, leads Wyatt to dig deep and let his character guide his decisions. With a few fumbles happening, will their marriage become sidelined? Will Wyatt be the starting QB, or will he be only B-string material? Ginger Scott is a master romance storyteller with a guaranteed HEA, regardless of genre. Final Down: The Waiting Series Next Generation is the final installment of the sports romance trilogy by Ginger Scott, worth at least a 500-star review.

Final Down was an exciting, heartwrenching, stomach-dropping sports romance and the perfect ending for this trilogy in the Waiting Series: The Second Generation. I have enjoyed this trilogy and patiently waited to see what was going to come next for these characters. I loved the rollercoaster ride of ups and downs Wyatt and Peyton experienced throughout this series. I thought this whole storyline was original, page-turning, and had me laughing, crying, and fist-pumping a few times, especially in this book. Ginger Scott is one of my favorite sports romance writers; she crafts stories that strike the perfect balance between sports and drama. I love her writing style; she is gritty and knows how to bring out all the feels in her stories.

Peyton is a firecracker. She is determined, loyal, and loving. Wyatt is still stubborn, possessive, and doing what he loves. Their romance was epic, and they had respect and an undeniable love for each other, and I loved every minute of it. They were both devoted to each other, and it was heartwarming. Their chemistry only grew in this book. I loved the angst and spice they both experienced throughout the series, but in this book, it was very hot!!! I can't wait to see what comes next from Ginger Scott!!! 4.5 stars-By Brooke

You know that feeling when you finish an amazing book and wish you could get more? That you could see the couple down the road, enjoying the HEA they so valiantly fought for? If so, you can imagine my delight when I cracked the cover on this one and saw that it's more of Wyatt and Peyton, one of my favorite couples ever!

These two went through so much in their first story, Game Face. Every bit of it was big life challenges and trauma that brought them closer together as they worked alongside each other to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and secure their future. Now, their foundation is strong, but life has a way of pulling the rug out from under them and surprising them at every turn.

I couldn’t get enough of Wyatt and Peyton! And this second half of their story is exactly what I love in a romance – when emotional life events and critical decisions bring a couple closer together. Wyatt and Peyton are couple's goals, and they own a piece of my heart forever. An emotional story of dedication, determination, and enduring love, you definitely won’t want to miss this one!

Wyatt, Peyton and their final happy end

This story is the third and last installment in an amazing journey. Peyton and Wyatt had some challenges to face and that doesn’t change in this last book.
While Wyatt is happy with the way his life is right now, when the opportunity comes for him for one final chance, he can’t let it go. And Peyton of course supports him. But that also brings some changes into their lives.
Peyton also has some new challenges she takes on. Still reeling with the aftermaths from her injury and insecurities because of that, she needs a new focus.
And Wyatt for her as well is there to support her and give her all the love he has and she deserves.
But no matter what came along their way, they dealt with it and made their relationship only stronger. With the support of friends and family their final happy end was emotional and had me crying a little too. But be assured that those were only happy tears.
Especially the Wyatt / Reed moment and when Wyatt and Peyton got their greatest price.

While Wyatt and Peyton have wavered the storm, still waters only last for so long before another wave comes. These two are each other life raft though and keep one another above the water. Their loyalty and dedication to one another is heartwarming. This unwavering loyalty has helped them chase the wave so to speak.

After years after the first draft Wyatt finally gets the call for the NFL, the wave he has chased, and with Peyton and their friends and family’s support they jump at the chance. Even though Peyton is dealing with her own issues after her injury she still has his back. While age may be a factor they still take on this challenge together.

This story is a true testament to young live, HEA and always chasing your dreams. We all love a great story that pulls at your heart, breaks you down and puts you back together stronger than before. This is that story in spades!!!

Thank you Ginger for writing such amazing books and Wordsmith Publicity for letting me be a reviewer. Truly a beautiful and inspiring story with the perfect spice 😍

𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 by Ginger Scott is the last book in Wyatt and Peyton’s roller coaster ride of a journey, featuring an unforgettable ending full of love, family, and football. I enjoyed every emotional moment, the drama, the spice, the banter, but most of all, for me it was the sense of security in Wyatt and Peyton’s relationship. Yes, there was drama swirling in their lives but, I just knew that no matter what, somehow, they would face it all as a couple. I just love them together, and their quirky family and friends who are in their corner! I don’t want to give away any of the details, because it was so much fun to be surprised as I read, but if you love a good football romance trilogy with a couple you can truly follow through adulthood, check out this series. I haven’t had a chance to read the first generation series yet, but it didn’t prevent me from enjoying these at all! Happy reading, friends!!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
