Charmed #8

Merlins Erbe

Rate this book

Prue goes to England for her work and her sisters are tagging along. Phoebe meets a guy. And Piper stumbles upon some druids performing a ritual. Turns out the guy Phoebe met is a target of the druids and he claims to have come from King Arthur’s time.

The plot is okay but very forgettable. The trip to the past feels quite uneventful to be honest. The Charmed Ones meeting Merlin is pretty much the lone highlight of this little story.

This would have made an entertaining episode! I loved how the story took place in England and involved time travel - what fun!

The story had:
-Prue working (as usual), but this time her job took her to England with a very nice suite in a hotel. -- Phoebe falling in love with a guy she just met and thinking he may be the "one"
- Piper obsessing over Leo's job always taking him away at in opportune moments and making a love charm (which she didn't event think would work) and the consequences from that.

I'd recommend this to any fan of Charmed.

I loved the plot but I wish the author had done some research on the geography of the UK! The author didn't realise that Wales was not part of England and also wrote about the sisters using pound notes when they don't exist. I feel that the author had a stereotypical version of the place that she was writing about and did no research which sucks as it let the book down!

There are a lot of bad books in the Charmed tie-in series. Thankfully, this isn't one of them. While Prue is in England buying rare books for an antique collector, sisters Phoebe and Piper tag along, and get caught up in an evil witch's plot to take Merlin's legacy for herself.

The basic characterizations in this story are good, though it seems like sometimes the author doesn't know what to do with Piper, since she's not the center of the romantic plot (like Phoebe), or of the dramatic one (like Prue). Phoebe's romance with the mysterious Niall is both great and tragic (like many of the sisters' romances in the early years of Charmed). There are some inconsistencies, with the sisters both doing incredibly advanced magic at one point and accidental spells at the other, but overall, it's a solid effort and worth reading for any fan of Charmed.

White Robes under the Druid moon.
Midsummer's Eve is coming soon
Spells and chanting call the power
To work dark Witchcraft in the hour.

The charmed ones are off to England in this book and actually back in time to Merlin to save his son Niall. This is the eight in the Charmed series based off the show of the same name. I collected these when I was in high school and even college. I own all that I know are out. I just don't remember reading this one in high school, but I enjoyed it this time for sure. The twist on Camelot and Merlin were perfect.

Prue is in England trying to find books for a buyer she has back in San Francisco. They are staying in Hay-On-Wye at the Trelawney Hotel thanks to her client Lloyd Claiborne. Prue has to go off and find the dealer when they get there, but Piper and Phoebe have other plans, oh say getting into trouble lol.

Piper goes with Prue, but finds a book that has love spells and decides to see if it will work on Leo and her relationship. It back fires badly because she ends up getting a man named Sir Andrew wanting her because he was present when she said the enchantment. It takes till the end of the book to resolve that problem.

Phoebe however finds love after literately falling into a guy after she faints in Niall's arms in another book store. (There were tons of bookstores in the area like 11 or more in a two or three block range). Niall is looking for a way back home after being brought from the year 584 when King Arthur ruled. A women named Diane wants to make a child with him and take the power it will bring, if the spell works.

Thankfully the Charmed ones fix what she has done first with Prue and Piper going back to the past to the year before Niall's birth and getting the spell that Diane burned that would take him back to his time. They then get back the friend that Prue made, that sold fruit, which had been kidnapped by Diane to be killed.

Once the ritual is stopped Phoebe, who planned to keep Niall with her because they loved each other, had another vision. I knew that they couldn't keep Niall with them and so with the spell from his dad he goes back to his time. They did find out he had a hand in the way the world is today by his family relation.

Another great book in the Charmed series I felt bad for Phoebe though losing yet another guy she liked. I was happy that even though not present Leo was mentioned. Always did like him and Piper together. Also Daryl is in the book, even though he doesn't talk it's a one way conversation with him and Prue. I thought he was great as well. I'm hoping he's in more books down the road. I think this was set in either two late in the season or early season three.

I'll round it up to three stars for GR.

It is hard to pinpoint when this takes place if you want some continuity. Prue seems to be doing antique business but that was still season 2 and we get mention that Leo is Piper's boyfriend. There is also a phone conversation Prue has with good old Darryl but all one-sided.

Puzzling as this book was released toward the end of Season 3...the last one with Prue.

In any case, you could just say it is fan-fiction and not canon though we get some Arthurian legend showing up later in the series...

The Halliwell sisters are on a vacation from magic but on business of Prue looking for antiquities for a client back home in San Francisco. They are in England in the very small town or village named Hay-On-Wye but staying at a fancy hotel in town where Phoebe is interested in finding books about King Arthur and Merlin and magic.

Piper is in a funk about Leo being busy with his Whitelighter responsibilities and part of her can't help but be intrigued about a book on making love charms from wildflowers...that can't be heading anywhere good since it isn't written by an actual witch.

With her sisters busy at other book shops, Phoebe finds herself in one where a very tall, dark and handsome young man is browsing the shelves. A book that Phoebe drops has a piece of parchment in it that blows to the ground as she and the young man dash to grab it and Phoebe relents to keep it from ripping.

He seems so disappointed at what is on it that Phoebe puts her hand on his arm in concern and wham! She receives a vision of this young man holding a newborn baby on a desolate, grey moor as he protects the child from the wind. His clothes are much different but there is such a wave of both love and loss that it makes Phoebe pass out.

She comes out of it to find herself in the man's arms as the shopkeeper goes to get her a cup of tea, Phoebe feigning jet lag as the cause of her dizzy spell. She thanks him for catching her and introduces herself to learn his name is Niall Oldman with an accent to his voice that is probably more Welsh than British.

He is on business and has to leave to meet some other people but it is clear that Niall is well...charmed with Phoebe. Wanting to know more about him to try and decipher her vision, Phoebe asks Niall to meet her for dinner that evening and he agrees.

Prue gets back to the hotel and finds out about Phoebe and her date with some good-natured commentary by Piper to go with it. Prue, in her oldest sister-mother mode, can't believe that Phoebe is going out with a man she just met because of a vision just as Niall shows up promptly at seven to pick Phoebe up.

Prue gives Niall the third degree and though charming, some of his answers seem vague but Phoebe manages to get him out in one piece. Piper warns Prue that she should go easy on Phoebe even if she doesn't trust Niall but they can never be too careful...

Niall is doing scholar research on Arthurian legend and staying with a friend in town as we learn and he seems a little out of touch with pop culture. Phoebe doesn't find that odd at all because Niall seems to be more into reading books than watching television and he also seems to believe that the real Merlin was a very powerful Druid.

It is clear Phoebe is falling in love with Niall and they make plans for another date the following evening. That afternoon while Prue is going about looking for more books, she passes the produce stand of an older woman named Mrs. Jeffries she bought strawberries from yesterday. A couple is there: a striking woman with long auburn hair bound by a scarf...and Niall on her arm.

They leave and Prue finds Mrs. Jeffries shaken because the girl with Niall had this presence about her that made the woman believe she might be a witch. That doesn't sound good to Prue even more than how Niall might be leading her baby sister on...

She tells Piper and Phoebe about it and Phoebe even questions Niall that night on their second date.

She comes back to tell Prue and Piper that Niall took her to meet the other woman because her name is Diana Jones and she is a colleague of Niall's whom he is staying with. Phoebe says she was aloof but civil and that Niall even held her hand all the time around Diana because nothing is going on between them...

The next morning, Piper goes out to collect wildflowers for her charm and finds a Druid ritual being performed in the woods around some ancient stones. In the center of a ring of others chanting, Piper sees a woman with long auburn hair and Niall in an embrace, the handsome young man shirtless.

She freezes them to get away and Piper goes back to tell her sisters her discovery. Prue comes back from business early and decides to spend the day with Phoebe to make-up for her overreacting about Niall and decides to introduce Phoebe to Mrs. Jeffries.

They get there and Prue finds the woman's fruit stand vacant even though the woman lives just down the road. Prue is worried something might have happened to the woman since she is a widow and lives alone so the sisters go to investigate and find an unfinished meal at the table. Prue heads to go upstairs but Phoebe's hand upon the chair at the dinner table shows the older woman looking up in fear at another woman.

The long red hair from the back gives it away without Phoebe even seeing her face...it is Diana.

The girls all question Niall the next time he arrives to see Phoebe and they learn the truth about who Niall really is and where...and when he came from. If you didn't happen to see what the title of this book was it is very obvious that there is a connection between Niall and Merlin but what it truly is I will not tell you...

Parts of the story are indeed suspenseful and the forbidden love of Phoebe and Niall is very touching to read about. There are some very high stakes but by the time we reach the big climax, it just sort of fizzles out.

Another day of been there, done that...fought evil, found love, lost love but everything is back to normal. There is also a B plot involving Piper and wacky shenanigans brought on by her love charm but it is nothing special and again resolved with a "that will teach me to use magic but let's have a big laugh at it" moment.

Not as good as the other ones I've read but The Legacy of Merlin is intriguing.

Fun CHARMED book by a wonderful author!

I'm not a big CHARMED fan, but author Eloise Flood was a classmate of mine at Columbia so I really wanted to read and review.

It's a very quick, pleasant read -- aimed at teens I assume so there's not much romance, but what there is feels very pleasant and not forced at all. And the "vision" Phoebe has at the end is really chilling. I also enjoyed the peek at King Arthur's Camelot and the girls meeting with Merlin!

I loved this TV series, and had been collecting books, but had never tried any of them. After having read this first one, I will definitely read more. Prue was not one of my favorite characters on the show, but in the books she is not bad. I enjoyed the trip to England, and the Merlin subplot. It was a fun book.

Least favorite so far of all of the charmed novels. Found it quite boring and unoriginal. Had origanlly given if 2 stars but really would give it 1 and a half in an ideal world. A disappointment overall.

This book was so good. I wish it had been a real Charmed episode.

Thanks to this book I think I've fallen even more in love with the Arthur legends and the charmed sisters.

It's a MUST READ if you like either of the two.

After reading The Power of Three last month and enjoying it so much, I couldn't wait to check this one out. Unlike the first book, this isn't an episode of the show. It's actually a story that takes place between episodes in season two.

The Halliwell sisters are in King Arthur country looking for different things. Prue is hoping to find some antique book deals for a client. Piper is trying to come to terms with Leo's job and his absence. Phoebe's excited because she loves Merlin. But what all of them find is an unexpected danger that might just steal one of their hearts...

Yep, this was another awesome Charmed book! It's fun, fast-paced and mysterious. I was totally invested and hooked from the very beginning. It's a quick and comforting read I would've finished in one sitting if I hadn't run out of time yesterday.

I'm a fan of Charmed, so these books are a perfect way to catch up with the Charmed Ones and read some of their adventures out of the series. Although, this would've been a great episode because it captured the essence of the show very well.

Prue takes her sisters with her overseas, but she's on a mission to secure antiques. Piper might be sad about what's going on with Leo, but she finds herself in a botched love spell. Phoebe might be interested in the legend of Merlin but never expected to fall for someone connected to him. And no matter where they go, these sisters always find themselves in the middle of a magical mess.

I also liked the easygoing writing style of this author and how we get to see the POV of each sister.

Definitely interested in reading more!

I'm sorry but I just cannot get over the huge issue here. This book is set in Hay-on-Wye. Which is in Wales. Yet the blurb and the entire book keep referring to it as in England. They are 2 completely different countries. The lack for research and basic ignorance of this really put me off this book. Not to mention they interchange English and Welsh as if they are the same thing, in one part they said the English do really good breakfast (they are in wales) and then say they they can never understand Welsh when looking at a street name.

The overall idea and writing was just subpar and I just can't get over the painful ignorance that the writer has

I love the complete story packed in a small easy to manage size, so you can commit to a book without worrying about how long it takes to finish it. Nothing is sacrificed in the process.

But more importantly. This is what I loved about shows like Charmed and Supernatural. Before they became what they are now. They were stories about the little things. The world was not always in danger; there was no new apocalypse waiting around the corner. It was about saving people and beating bad guys. It was also about family and living.

I miss Charmed!

I think I may have enjoyed this book more if I hadn't visited Hay-On-Wye. Bear in mind this book was written in the days before Google Earth so remotely looking at streets wasn't an option but still some of the descriptions were off. Plus even for Phoebe wanting to practically marry a guy after two days is extreme.
That being said, the Merlin plot was interesting and carried the story enough to reach a three star rating.

I was really impressed with this one! Sometimes these books have a tendency to get wrapped up in themselves and I zone out, but this one was amazing. *Minor Spoiler* I loved how this one kind of mirrored the episode where Phoebe's beau from "Kill it Before it Dies".
