Bring on the Heat

Rate this book
In Katie Rose’s irresistible battle of wits, a case of mistaken identity lands a female fan in bed with a sexy superstar—and in major-league trouble.

House-sitting for a rich and famous friend has its perks, and Darcy Hamel isn’t shy about enjoying them. Especially when it means scoring a ticket to an exclusive fashion show hosted by the New Jersey Sonics. An avid baseball fan, Darcy has always dreamed of meeting the team—especially the starting pitcher whose body is as hot as his fastball. But there’s a catch. The gala is by invitation only. To get behind the velvet rope, mild-mannered Darcy will have to pose as party girl Lydia Logan.

Schmoozing is one of the downsides of fame, but Chase Westbrook knows how to liven up even the dullest event. And nothing spices a night up more than a beautiful socialite with a naughty reputation. What Chase doesn’t expect is a hint of sweetness beneath her sultry façade. Flirtation turns to seduction and leaves him aching for more. Chase just doesn’t know who the real Lydia is: the spoiled tease crying foul over some missing diamonds or the alluring woman making a play for his heart.

Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

This is a romance which really requires you to put aside any qualms you have about realism in romance novels.

Darcy is a housesitter who impersonates the socialite Lydia Logan. Whilst pretending to be Lydia, Darcy successfully gets Chase the baseball star to fall in love with her (the fake Lydia). Real Lydia turns up and ruins the ruse at which time Darcy runs off ashamed and heartbroken and Chase starts sleeping with real Lydia. Yup what a catch.

The fact that Chase dumps Darcy and starts sleeping with real Lydia and then eventually when he comes to his senses, Darcy takes him back and doesn't seem to mind he's been sleeping with the replacement her, is a real problem for me.

Perhaps in real celeb circles, this would be nothing to frown about but I do not want a Hero sleeping with anyone except the Heroine in my romances. That's not too much to ask for, right?

Two other occasions when our gallant hero shows his true colours are:

1. When he knows full well that Darcy is drunk but is well on the way to sleeping with her anyway and
2. When she mercifully falls asleep before that happens, he considers entering her anyway ('Temptation to possess her anyway flickered through his thoughts. He was certain it had happened to Lydia before, and she probably wouldn't even mind too much ...' ) Excuse me that is called RAPE!

A case of mistaken identity for one night turns into weeks of being someone else just for a pair of diamond earrings.

Darcy Hamilton love's baseball and her team the Sonics and her favourite player pitcher Chase Westbrook is her dream man. She is a house sitter for the heiress Lydia Logan party girl when Lydia gets an invite to a charity event for the Sonics she cannot be bothered and gives Darcy the invite and telling her to pick a dress from her closet. Lydia disappears to Dubai so Darcy goes to the event looking fantastic in Lydia's wardrobe and diamond earrings, everyone at the event mistakes Darcy for Lydia even her dream man Chase she is so shell shocked at meeting him that she does not correct him.

Too much to drink Darcy ends up going home with Chase, the morning after she sneaks out BUT forgets the earrings. She needs them back but Chase wants to spend more time with Lydia so Darcy has to keep playing Lydia this continues for weeks and of course Darcy falls head over heels, Chase is falling as well but for the heiress Lydia Logan not Darcy Hamilton.

What is going to happen?
When is the truth going to come out?
When is Lydia coming home?

I really enjoyed this I liked Darcy and Chase was hot but my only criticism is I would of liked more chapters of Darcy and Chase together Darcy being Darcy I felt the ending was rushed. Overall an enjoyable story.

Bring on the Heat is the first book in Katie Rose’s The Boys of Summer series. I don’t believe I’ve ever read a Katie Rose novel before, I’d have to double check my GR shelf to make sure, but the name isn’t familiar to me. This was a book I went into completely blind. I didn’t even read the synopsis for it. Mainly it was a, “I should really read the other two books in the series before I read the ARC I have of the third book.” So that’s how this one came about.

I was happily surprised and completely intrigued with the plot of the book. This isn’t something I’ve ever read before, so that made it extra fun. Not to mention, we are talking about baseball here, and I’m totally a baseball girl. The other thing, aside from the plot itself that I utterly enjoyed about this book was that, although its set out as a sports romance, it’s very evenly done so that it’s not -all- sports. You get a great feel for the characters in this book, both as a couple and as individuals. The co-stars are also splendidly done!

Darcy caught my attention from the get go. She’s just your typical woman, sort of like the girl next door, who loves baseball and is just trying to make ends meet. She house sits, but it’s more like she’s an assistant for this royally spoiled socialite, Lydia. Lydia knowingly hands over an invitations to a gala, telling Darcy to just use it, so that Darcy can meet the Sonics players. Low and behold, when Darcy arrives, people think she’s Lydia. Now, you might thinks she plays this up, but no, she really does try to correct them but gets railroaded every single time.

Chase is hot, intense, and focused. He is on the fast track for a bigger and better team, while being out to prove himself good enough to his father. This character just made me have warm fuzzies on so many levels. He’s not perfect, he’s not apologetic about it, and he doesn’t try -to- be perfect outside of his ball game. Running into “Lydia” was completely unexpected, and she’s nothing like what he assumed she would be.

Darcy, in the guise of Lydia and Chase completely hit it off. I have one particular mental image in my head from this book that I just wish I could share but it’s a spoiler. :D Be that as it may, I can almost hear Chase laughing in my head at the situation. The banter, sexual and non-sexual, between these two is engaging. It makes you want to read more, not to mention just the chemistry itself.

I fell in love with these two characters, and the book is a definite four star for me. Now I’m just excited about reading the rest of the series. Bring on the Heat is a full-length standalone novel, with an HEA and no cliffhanger. It’s written from an alternating third person POV. I would recommend it to pretty much anyone.

I wanted to like this book so badly! I love baseball, seriously love baseball. I'm that girl who will sit at home watching the Boston Red Sox every day they play and be blissfully happy doing it. So mixing of my favorite past time and a romance book, well that is a recipe for happiness. Unfortunately it just didn't pan out for me.

I know a lot of people have issues with the whole mistaken identity thing, but I am not one of those people. Especially in this instance because Darcy was unbelievably clear at the beginning that she was not the famous Lydia, everyone just ignored her. That being said, I did have strong issues from the very beginning. My first issue was that Chase, who is suppose to be some dreamy and responsible baseball player, is kind of a dirt bag in my opinion. He sets his sights on Darcy (thinking she's Lydia) and when she's fall down sloppy drunk he still takes her home and tries to sleep with her. And then when she passed out, he seriously considers having sex with her anyway. That was a serious strike against Chase for me, one I'm not sure I ever recovered from.
As with all mistaken identity books, it had to be found eventually. And of course Chase was going to be mad. That's a given. It's totally understandable. But then he goes and decides to, literally the same night, date the real Lydia. Like hey, why not, the papers already think we are together, let's date for real. So he goes and sleeps with her, dates, her the whole nine. Like Darcy, who he supposably loved never existed. Let's face it by the end of the book I hated Chase, even when he made solid baseball decisions.
Darcy was an okay character, I understood the appeal of living a life of a famous person, and I also understand she has had a thing for Chase for a long time. I actually liked her the vast majority of the book, she's clearly a good person, and while she makes some bad decisions (especially at the goading of her friend Cara), she doesn't do it with any kind of malicious intention. But when she just takes Chase back, after her was with Lydia, I lost a huge amount of respect for her.

I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn't do it for me. I didn't mind the writing style so maybe in the future I will try out another Katie Rose book.

Fabulous book! I understand this is the first contemporary for this author, and she nailed it! Very well written with great characters, humor, sexy scenes, and romance. Oh and smoking hot baseball players!! It's a story of mistaken identity and hero worship that turns into something real. Great read I highly recommend.

Darcy lucks out and lands a job house sitting for Lydia a socialite and heiress while she's away. In the meantime Lydia lets Darcy go to a charity party for her and pretend to be her. While there Darcy runs into Chase, super hot playboy starting pitcher for the Sonics. Chase is preparing to sign the deal of his life with none other than the Yankees, and being that Lydia's grandfather has a big part in the organization Chase sees this as a win-win opportunity for him.

Here's where it starts to get weird … Darcy is sloppy drunk and Chase still brings her home and even contemplates sleeping with her … Um not okay. So that's strike one. Strike two after everything comes full circle, which hey Darcy kept saying all along she wasn't Lydia so I mean who could blame her, Chase goes and sleeps with the REAL Lydia that night and then begins to date her? Hmmm. Then comes Strike three, Darcy just takes him back … Like oops made a mistake take me back and Darcy is all to forgiving. I don't know just didm't sit well with me.

The books wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was used to reading. The characters were a little iffy for me to really like, especially Chase and i always love the male lead ….

It was a quick read, not bad.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Darcy is just your average schmuck who somehow lands a job as a housesitter for a wealthy heiress. While generally selfish and clueless, Lydia the heiress, decides to allow Darcy to attend a charity event in her place. Darcy has her misgivings but seeing as the charity event will have appearances by the Sonics, her favorite baseball team, she can't quite bring herself to say no. There, she meets Chase Westbrook, one of her favorite players. Chase is a MLB pitcher looking to sign a bigger contract, play for a better team, and finally prove to his dad he is successful. When he sees who he thinks is Lydia the playgirl heiress he decides a night of frivolous fun is order.

Darcy is a character that is hard to fully like, she seems to get caught up in the glitz and glamour but ultimately she is outright deceiving Chase. Chase is no innocent babe either, his agent tells him that Lydia's grandfather likes the influence Chase seems to have on her and since the grandfather has a controlling interest in the Yankees, a team Chase desperately wants to play for, he pulls a devious trick of his own to keep who he thinks is Lydia by his side.

There is a little depth to the characters with issues from parents and personal insecurities discussed but you probably wouldn't need a life jacket to swim in their waters. As they spend more time together our leads start to develop stronger feelings for each other. There isn't much for emotion written or felt here but the reader can see and understand, to some degree, what Darcy and Chase see in each other. The mistaken identity is eventually found out and gotten over and Chase decides gosh darn it he and his team are good enough. All these happenings and affirmations all happen fairly fast as the ending ends up feeling rushed.

This story is a quick read as there isn't too much substance to it but let's be honest, as a reader you know that and buy this book for the same reason reality tv shows are so popular; escapism. It's a cotton candy summer sports themed romance, great for a beach read.

I have mixed feelings about this story. On the one hand, I enjoyed the characters and the premise on which they 'met' was brought well onto the page. But on the other hand, I couldn't really understand some of the character's behavior/actions and found that their connection got lost among the other elements in the story.

I enjoyed Darcy's character. She bit more than she could chew and found herself between a rock and a hard place when it came to confess her feelings for Chase. I liked that she didn't try to convince herself she was doing the right thing and that she still felt bad for how everything played out in the end. In that regards, I admit I admired her strength at a time when most would have likely retreated and/or blame others for her situation.

Chase, on the other hand, well he disappointed me in parts. During the first part of the book, I found him to be charming and sexy (as expected). He was sweet and soon came to care for 'Darcy'. I loved that side of him. But once the truth came out. Well, let's just say that I moved on from Chase and lost all interest in the story.

However, as the first book in the series Bring on the Heat served its purpose. I enjoyed the addition of the secondary characters and what they added to the story. It was a treat to see the camaraderie between the teammates and getting to know a bit more about the future 'main players'.

This story might not have been my cup of tea, but I'm looking forward to read more about The Boys of Summer.

A good start to a new series; standalone, no cliffhanger.

This was my first book by Katie Rose and I really enjoyed reading it. Darcy and Chase were very likeable characters.

Darcy is a house-sitter for famous socialite, Lydia Logan. Lydia is going out of the country so she tells Darcy to take her place at a charity event. Since the event is hosted by her favorite baseball team, the Sonics, she is excited to go. At the event she meets her favorite player, Chase Westbrook. When Chase doesn’t want to listen, Darcy just goes on pretending to be Lydia. Before too long things snowball and Darcy finds herself impersonating Lydia at more events and hanging out with Chase. She falls hard for him but is in constant fear of what will happen when he finds out how she has been deceiving him.

Chase is perplexed by the mixed signals he gets from Darcy/Lydia. Her public profile paints her as a self-centered, spoiled rich girl. Yet when they are together he sees many other facets to her personality. She’s kind to children and she pitches in to help a friend in the kitchen at a social event. He is falling hard for her.

This was a very engaging story with a few twists. It has an HEA and I was very entertained while finding out how Chase and Darcy managed to resolve all of their problems to get there.

1 - Disappointed. Star.

I was really happy to be approved for an ARC of Bring on the Heat, the premise was a little different, and the characters sounded like they would be entertaining, and lets face it who doesn't love a whole slew of ball-players to drool over.

Sadly, it all fell flat for me, very flat... I can't put my finger on any main reason, it was well written, but I just didn't like or feel anything for any of the characters, or feel any connection between them in any real sense. Chase was a bit of a douche and the whole Lydia/Darcy thing just went a little to far for me.

I did read to the end, to see if things improved, but on this occasion this book was just not for me.

I received this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly, I gave up at 33% on this one...

The gist: Darcy is personal assistant and house sitter for socialite Lydia. Chase is a major league pitcher. Lydia goes on a trip & tells Darcy to go in her place to a charity event. Darcy goes & she evidently closely resembles Lydia. She's mistaken for Lydia by everyone, even though she TRIES to correct them. She meets Chase there and he thinks she's Lydia, but Darcy doesn't really attempt to correct him. So she continues on pretending to be Lydia after the party... That's about where I left off. I assume there'll be some sort of explosion when Chase realizes he looks like an idiot...

I gave up on this one, for the most part, because I just didn't really care for the characters and the dialogue was off. Nothing about this particular story seemed genuine. I also don't like books written in present tense. It drives me crazy unless it's in first person... It also seemed like just a bunch of random scenes pasted together.

I wasn't feeling it, but you might enjoy it...

Bring on the Heat was fun and entertaining to read. It was sort of Cinderella-like, with the main character, Darcy, dressing up in the clothes of rich and famous Lydia, and going to a benefit as her in order to meet a baseball team that she admired. Upon meeting pitcher, Chase, she finds that she likes him so much that she can't give up impersonating Lydia, which eventually leads to trouble.

I liked Darcy, although the whole pretending to be Lydia was not well done of her. I am glad that she ended up taking responsibility for all of her actions and doing everything she could do put things right. I think she was a good person who let her impulses steer her into doing something that wasn't right.

Chase was a great character, and I am glad that he ended up staying true to himself and deciding what was important in his life. I didn't admire the way he thought he should be chasing fame and fortune earlier in the book, but he was a really genuinely nice guy who made the right choices in the end.

This was a very quick book to read, and it was enjoyable. I liked the characters and the storyline kept me interested. I"ll be looking forward to the next book in the series.

Darcy is a house sitter for the famous Lydia Logan, heiress and party girl. Lydia receives an invite for a charity event for the Sonics baseball team. Lydia is going to Dubai so she offers her house sitter, Darcy, to use the invitation and borrow something of hers to wear. Hesitantly, Darcy goes to the party where she meets famous Sonics pitcher, Chase Westbrook. Only problem is, Chase thinks that she's Lydia Logan. I really loved this book. There was the mistaken identity thing going on, there were some steamy scenes and there was baseball. Loved it! Can't wait to read more in this series!

Net galley ARC, I liked the characters and thought the story was a bit Cinderella, but fun and sweet. I liked that even though she was being someone else she couldn't help being herself. Character shines through with her. Now, there will be some who will criticize the lack of communication or the fact he was able to use Lydia for his own benefit. It's a book not real life. We got escape and it was fantastic.

I'm a huge baseball fan and love sports themed romance novels so I was very excited when BRING ON THE HEAT by Katie Rose was offered for download on NetGalley. I had never read any of Katie's aka Colleen Quinn other books, but once again taking a chance on a new author paid off.

Bring on the Heat is a Cinderella themed story. Darcy Hamel is sweet, very down-to-earth, somewhat shy and basically a normal person. Her means of income comes from housesitting and sometimes acting as a personal assistant for a heiress who is a wild party girl that is seldom in town, or in the country for that matter. She keeps Lydia Logan's life from falling apart while she jet-sets around the globe with her friends and numerous lovers.

The story starts off with Lydia preparing to leave the country to hook up with a prince which leaves her unable to attend a charity event being put on by the Sonics, a professional baseball team her wealthy grandfather supports. She offers Darcy the tickets and a pass to wear something from her closet since Darcy doesn't have appropriate clothing for the black tie event. Normally shy and let's face it, mousey Darcy would turn her down, but she's been a fan of the local baseball team, the Sonics, all her life and would do just about anything to meet her crush, Chase Westbrook, the team's pitcher.

Chase loves playing baseball professionally and he is talented. He is also dedicated to improving and works harder at it than most of the other guys on his team. He puts a lot of pressure on himself in order to impress his father who has never fully supported Chase's decision to play baseball for a living. He loves the Sonics, but his goal is to play for a bigger name team so his father will finally be proud of him. This goal drives him and he can be a bit self-serving in his pursuit of it. I felt like at heart Chase is a good guy and I liked seeing how being with Darcy really brings that out in him because although Chase is sexy as hell and can be very charming, he is no prince. For instance, he comes to the Sonics charity event in the hopes of meeting Lydia Logan, knowing if he can get in tight with her he may be able to get her grandfather to put in a good word for him with the New York team he wants to be traded to.

At the event, Chase sees Darcy - who in preparation for her once-in-a-lifetime-night has had a full spa day, is dressed in Lydia's designer clothes and Lydia's jewels, and looks very much like Lydia herself - and both he and everyone else at the event believes she is Lydia. Darcy makes several attempts to tell them the truth, but no one believes her. Plus with the bustle and noise of the atmosphere making it difficult to communicate Darcy finally decides to just give in, enjoy the special night and the opportunity to spend time with Chase. They hit it off and she agrees to go back to his apartment. After a magical night, in fear he will finally realize she is not really the heiress he believes her to be, Darcy bolts while Chase is sleeping.

Much like Cinderella, she accidentally leaves behind a tidbit at Chase's place, very expensive diamond earrings. Getting those earrings back and safe in Lydia's jewelry box without embarrassing herself by Chase realizing she is not who he thinks she is is the reason Darcy gives herself for continuing to see Chase. Chase has his own ulterior motive for seeing "Lydia" again, but he also truly enjoyed his time with Darcy. She was not at all what he expected and he is a bit thrown when she disappeared without a goodbye. He's not used to women ditching him, but he realizes it's Lydia's style. So he uses the earrings as bait to keep her coming back in hopes of having a real chance with her. Neither of them expected to fall in love, but they do, and it becomes more and more complicated the deeper they fall. Both for Darcy and Chase, neither being completely honest with the other.

I've probably told more of the story than I should and still haven't done it justice. I felt it was romantic, maybe not quite fairytale romantic, but close. Chase and Darcy were good together. There were humorous moments, the dialogue was witty, and there were plenty of very steamy sexy times between these two. The story itself was well written and kept me turning the pages for more. I liked that it was told in a way that felt real, referring especially to the characters behavior and motivations, all of which were extremely well-developed by the author. The writing flowed at a perfect pace and after the devastating reveal and shock, eventually our lovers get their HEA ending. They were happy and so was I! 4.5 stars

Bring on the Heat (The Boys of Summer) by Katie Rose delivers heat with a lot of sizzle! Working for crazy Socialite Lydia Logan has its perks. When Lydia decides to head out of town once again to party she fears her grandfather will cut her off if he finds out she’s not out there trying to work hard and help contribute to the family fortune. Once again she shirking her responsibilities to her community to schmooze and contribute to another wonderful charity – a black tie cocktail event with a fashion show. She offers her house sitter Darcy Hamilton the chance to attend the charity event with her invite since the Sonics Baseball team will be there. This charity event is a dream come true for Darcy, she’s been a fan of the Sonics since she was a little girl. It’s when she meets Chase Westbrook, pitcher for her beloved Sonics that her troubles begin.
What started out as a simple invite to attend a gala with Lydia’s blessing turns into an unintentional web of deceit and lies. After all when Darcy left to go to Dubai to visit a prince she told Darcy she could take her appointment at the hairdresser and borrow an outfit for a fundraiser.

This story is enchanting and like any good Cinderella story starts out with our beloved heroine needing a dress, complete makeover including shoes in order to attend the royal ball. The Sonics of New Jersey are Major League Baseball royalty to Darcy. It’s at this Gala where Darcy meets the man of her dreams or in this case the sports icon she worships. Finally noticed by every man who walks by her because of the make-up, hair extensions and designer clothes, Darcy is enjoying the sudden attention. Sounds great to me! What’s even better is that Darcy, unlike Lydia is book smart and truly devoted to Baseball. Those differences have some people wondering just who Lydia Logan really is. Is she a closet intellectual genius or what the paparazzi report; a man-eater and party girl?

When the fundraiser ends and Darcy wakes up barely dressed in Chase’s apartment the morning after in a foggy, hung-over state, she panics and bolts. Unfortunately she forgets something at Chase’s apartment and thus begins the charade of Darcy being Lydia Logan. Now the race is on to get them back so she can end the charade of Darcy being Logan and stop the game of unintentional lies. It’s nice to see Darcy have remorse and want to tell Chase the truth as I the reader keep screaming “stop interrupting her and listen to her.” However, Chase can’t hear her and clearly doesn’t want to hear what he sees as inconsistencies. First and most obvious her interest and knowledge of Baseball and the compassion she has when a tragedy strikes his family. If only he knew how Darcy really felt he’d realize that his sixth sense was correct. They both need to come to terms with who they really are and what it is they are looking for.

This book is an enjoyable and easy read. It combines my love of baseball and a hot summer romance. It’s nice to see two characters realize how much they need each other. To Darcy’s credit she does try to confess her secret on each date to Chase but he never lets her get the words out. The truth seems to be more difficult to admit as she grows more accustomed to Lydia’s lifestyle than her own. This story from the first pitch to the last is fantastic. Head out to the ballpark for a SONICs game to watch a hot pitcher play a great game of baseball.

ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. You can read this review and others on my blog here

Lately I have been into sporty books, where the main male character is the star player apart of a star team, sweaty, delicious and can have his dirty moments yet gets himself the girl. And it just so happens that Bring on the Heat had exactly that.

The book revolves around Darcy Hamilton and her case of mistaken identity that leads her into the arms of star pitcher of the New Jersey Sonics - Chase Westbrook. Darcy is a house sitter for a very rich heiress, Lydia Logan, who disappears to Dubai and leaves Darcy to take over her life just for a little bit, including attending a exclusive fashion show held by the Sonics team. Darcy must post as Lydia and when she meets Chase her plan goes too far as the two start to take interest in one another only confusing Chase - who is the real Lydia? The rich and spoiled girl he has seen in tabloids or the down to earth on he is falling for.

I am not the biggest fan of baseball, I don't mind watching it but that won't stop me from babbling questions about what's going on? Who is batting? What does it mean to steal a base? Which is the on offense? Is there a defense? You see I watch basketball and while I played softball for about 3 years I still had no idea what was going on and plus I was usually a bench warmer.

But whilst reading this book I found myself watching baseball, trying to get my cousins to take me to a Ranger game in my hometown of Dallas just so I could show off my baseball talk that I learned from the internet. Reading books that involves any kind of sports is very enticing, it has you in the mindset that you all of sudden like sports, you want to watch and learn about it because you want background about it all and also to understand the book more which makes it all the more enjoying.

I like reading about Darcy and her down to earth attitude, more characters and people in general need to be more like her. I was glad that she was paired up with Chase, as he was her favorite player on the Sonics and also her favorite crush, she needed some happiness in her life. Immediately the couple clicked and how their relationship felt like a Cinderella love story - Chase rescuing her from her mundane life and giving her a life full of love that she deserves.

Their relationship was very playful, relaxed and not at all forced - something they were both really comfortable with in their hectic and rushed lives but also had its sexy times that swept both characters off their feet.

I enjoyed their roller coaster of a relationship and how they came together in the end despite the obstacles involved. I do wish we had more Darcy and Chase as she was the real Darcy and not partaking Lydia's personality but other than that no complaints.

Overall I gave the book 4 stars and be on the lookout of my review and the next book in the Boys of Summer series, Too Hot the Handle, where you guys will get to meet Chase's sexy and womanizer teammate, Jake Baldwin. Thank you Random House/Loveswept for yet another great read and you readers for reading, I will be back with another blog post soon,

Over and out.

Nothing quite like a baseball related romance about a team on the cusp of going to the World Series as the real baseball season winds down. Bring on the Heat is one of those stories that I enjoyed very much; a heroine who is mistaken for her high profile employer, a major league pitcher on the brink of superstardom, and too much publicity for them both leading to all kinds of interesting issues.
I won’t say that Darcy Hamilton didn’t make some errors in judgment when she was mistaken for her employer and let the charade continue even after she developed feeling for Chase Westbrook but Chase wasn’t entirely above board on his reason for starting a relationship with the woman he thought was Lydia Logan and to be honest that was one of the reasons I didn’t rate this book higher because he was quick to cast Darcy aside for her deceit yet he wasn’t completely truthful either. I really like Darcy as she experienced the life of the rich and famous and the fact that she was able to meet and eventually fall in love with Chase, the pitcher for the Sonics baseball team she’s followed her whole life. As much as she tried to assume Lydia’s personality there were so many times that her true personality came out which of course kept Chase off balance and it was those moments where he began to think Lydia (Darcy) was someone he could spend more time with. I also felt that Darcy brought out many sides of Chase that most people never saw and he didn’t see in himself because he was so focused on getting on a better team to make more money to make his father proud.
This was a fun story and yet it was super sexy. I liked both the characters for the most part although towards the end I kind of felt Chase made a couple of jerkoff moves that I’ll admit made me not like him as well. While Darcy had her faults, she was a good person who just got caught up in a crazy situation.
I really loved the building relationship between Darcy and Chase and the baseball parts of this book were done very well. Overall, Bring On The Heat was an enjoyable sexy romance and I will definitely be looking for the next book in this series.

Cinderella, meet Prince Charming. Prince Charming, meet Cinderella.

Darcy's not Hollywood beautiful, wealthy, or famous. She's a housekeeper to a socialite, struggling to write a screenplay, and her notarioty isn't that widespread. But she's beautiful in a girl next door way, genuine when it matters, and isn't the least bit interested in becoming famous. With all that being said, can you really blame her for taking the chance of a lifetime and going in her employer Lydian Logan's place to a charity event where she'd have the chance to meet the baseball player of her dreams? Yeah, no. Don't think I can either, lol.

Chase is the star pitcher for the Sonics. Making nice with the rich and famous isn't his idea of a good time, but he's willing to make the exception when he finds out a certain socialite with a penchant for craziness is going to be at a charity event he's attending. Thing is, she doesn't reconcile the images he's seen or the reports he's read of her. The sex goddess is there, but so is the girl next door. The more time he spends with her, the more confused he becomes. Who exactly is Lydia Logan?

This is going to sound strange, but my favorite part of this story is the night of the charity event. I laughed at how drunk Darcy was, and sighed when Chase took care of her. Then I laughed again when she promptly fell asleep, snoring included, during their lovemaking. Yep. You read it right. In bed with the most handsome man she 's ever met, and she falls asleep. I about died laughing! How do you redeem yourself after that?

The differences in their lifestyles weren't the only things that mirrored reality. The emotional roller coaster they were on did as well.  There were moments of uncertainty and absolute, of anger and forgiveness, of acceptance and love. A Cinderella story wouldn't be complete without a happy ending, and the one that happened for Chase and Dacry was expected...but not. A fun filled, Cinderella focused romance that shows how important truth is, why it's one of the founding bricks in any relationship, and how having it all isn't a guarantee to having and experiencing real love and happiness.

3.5*

Darcy Hamilton is not rich or famous. She only house sits for Lydia Logan, a very rich and famous heiress. Darcy is a jeans and t-shirt, wanna be writer and huge baseball fan. When the lady of the house is off onto another romantic escapade and offers Darcy a chance to meet the New Jersey Sonics in a fundraiser, Darcy takes two seconds to decide that impersonating her rich boss for one night is so worth it. For a chance to meet the Sonics pitcher Chase Westbrook, she would do just about anything… Chase is captivated by the beautiful socialite, but is surprised to find she is nothing like the woman in the news. The men-eater, self-absorbed, party girl is not who he met. After a champagne fuelled night of passion, Chase is a goner. Darcy is horrified to have spent the night in a strangers bed. No matter that she's loved him forever. Worse yet, when she leaves his home in the middle of the night forgetting behind Lydia's very expensive jewelry, Darcy knows her charade will have to play out a little longer. Just one more date. Just one more night. Just… Falling for Chase was inevitable, unfortunately the man was falling for someone that wasn’t her. When the truth comes out, will Chase accept that he would never have given Darcy the time of day had she not played the part of a rich woman? Will he forgive her? Will Darcy forgive herself? The first installment of the Boys of Summer Series is a Cinderella turned to pumpkin too soon tale. When all the glitter and glamour is gone, Darcy has to face the consequences of her deceit. Too bad she fell in love in the process...

This was a really good book and great start to this series. Darcy is a House Sitter for Lydia Logan, a party girl and heiress to a Potato Chip fortune. She used to be a waitress and had a long-time boyfriend who broke up with her and told her that she was boring. While House Sitting or more like executive assistant work she is writing a screenplay. Lydia offers for Darcy to go in her place at a fNew Jersey Sonics Charity Function. She loves baseball and watches the New Jersey Sonics all the time. She's had a huge crush on their pitcher, Chase Westbrook. They meet at the event and he thinks she is Lydia.

Darcy is a really great woman that cares about others. She tries to explain to Chase several times that she isn't Lydia but he isn't listening. She gets carried away with being with him that she gets lost in it. She feels horrible about it but she really cares about him. She also shows that she is caring and good to others.

Chase is the Pitcher for the New Jersey Sonics with dreams of becoming a New York Yankee. He loves his team and teammates but it's always been his dream to be a NY Yankee. He's always been just about pitching and about the game, he never had any interest in being in a relationship. He finds Lydia to be gorgeous but she doesn't seem like all he's heard about her. He's gorgeous but there is so much more to him that what appears. He likes to cook when he's home, he's good to his parents, and cares about his teammates.

Definitely worth reading.

When a case of mistake identity spirals out of control, Darcy just keeps getting herself in deeper. She's always loved baseball, always had a crush on Chase Westbrook, and he's always been her favorite player. When she gets the chance to meet him in person, he mistakes her for a rich heiress and she goes along with it to hang out with him. One thing leads to another and she extends the fairytale by actually dating him, always knowing she has to tell him the truth. Will she lose him when the truth finally comes out?

I really enjoyed Bring on the Heat! The storyline was adorable and it was well written with awesome characters. The hero and heroine's wits were evenly matched, their morals a refreshing bonus to the story. I love a sports hero and Chase fit the bill, being not only sexy, but sweet too. Ms. Rose livened the story up with all the encounters Darcy had, being mistaken for the heiress. This was a really fun, sexy romance I'm glad I had the opportunity to read. The sex scenes were delicious, but I felt bad for Darcy when Chase called out the wrong name, believing her to be the heiress. Of course I was totally involved, waiting to see what would happen when the truth finally did come out. I'll be impatiently awaiting more from Ms. Rose since I can hardly wait to read more! Bring on the Heat is a Must Read!

This is a very funny story at times. Lydia Logan, is a rich party girl who is leaving the country and tells her assistant who is also house sitting, Darcy Hamel, that she can go to a charity event for the baseball that Darcy has followed most of her life. She gets her hair done, nails etc… Once there, she realizes that she forgot the invitation but when she mentions the name Logan, they believe she is the real Lydia Logan, even though she tries to explain know one well listen so she just goes in with Chase Westerbrook, the pitcher for the team and the guy she has had a crush on for a long time. He is attracted to her and can’t believe that this is the same party girl that everyone has talked about. After the night ends the story begins to snow ball for her and though she is trying to tell him who she really is he does not give her time and she gets caught up in the moment as well, until the day the real Lydia finds out what has been going on and comes home. He is devastated and so is she. Lydia looks at this as a way to get back into the good graces with her grandfather. But Chase sees right through her and does not want to be with her and is surprised when all he can think about is Darcy, but how is he going to get back together with her. You have to read the book to find out. This was a fun story to read and I like the characters a lot.

I felt a little kinship with this book. The story takes place in New Jersey, If you haven't guessed yet by the cover it's about baseball. So the main character Chase plays for the New Jersey Sonics. My best friend lives in New Jersey so I was all for the background of the story. I really felt that it fit in the story.

Darcy is house sitting for Lydia a socialite. When she id offered Lydia's invite to an exclusive fundraiser with Chase her favorite baseball player she jumps at the chance. Well she goes willingly. Unfortunately she is mistaken for Lydia. She doesn't think she will ever see chase again so she just goes with it. She finds that everyone treats her differently when they think she's someone else. What she doesn't expect is for Chase to be interested in her. But as these things go he is. They may actually be the best things for each other. Both seeing the real person inside the other. Darcy is a huge baseball fan so it's as easy as breathing being with Chase.

This is a sweet, romantic, and quite lovely story about mistaken identity, and truly finding yourself. I recommend this fun and light read. I read it in no time at all and enjoyed every little moment of it.

I'm not sure why this got so many bad reviews. The most common complaints I saw were him supposedly taking advantage of Darcy the first time they met while she was drunk. *I* personally didn't get that vibe. I think that he believed she was a wild party girl and pretty much slept with anyone, so he wasn't worried about her being drunk. But, he didn't have sex with her or try to while she was passed out, so that's not really legit, imho.
Second, the complaints said that when he figured out Darcy wasn't Lydia, he started sleeping with the real Lydia. From what I gathered, Lydia was pursuing him and he was ignoring her advances until he finally told her her wasn't interested. So, he never really did anything like that.

Was the book far fetched? Yes. But, realistically, aren't they ALL??? Romance novels are never based on real life, so it's expected. Yes, this one was a little bit more fairytaleish (yeah, I probably made that word up), but all-in-all I thought it was really cute. I liked Darcy and Chase and I think they were a good fit.

The book reminded me of "Maid in Manhattan" so if you liked that movie, you'll probably like this book.

I will definitely be reading Jake's story.

This is the romance between Darcy Hamilton, house sitter, and Chase Westbrook, major league pitcher. Darcy is a big baseball fan. So when she is offered the chance to attend a fund raiser and meet the team by using her employer's invitation, she jumps at it. Her employer Lydia Logan tells her to borrow appropriate clothing from her closet. Darcy never expects to be mistaken for Lydia but, once she is, she has a hard time clearing things up. She meets Chase at the party and his is attracted to her - or is he attracted to Lydia?

Darcy has too much to drink and goes home with Chase but passes out before the have sex. When she awakens early the next morning, her first impulse is to go home but she forgets the diamond earrings that she borrowed from Lydia. She has to keep up the impersonation long enough to get Lydia's earrings back.

Chase, meanwhile, wants to stay close to Lydia because her grandfather has an interest in the Yankees and they are the team that he wants to play for. Being with the Yankees would meet his father's criteria for success.

Both characters have ulterior motives but they also get to know each other and fall in love. This was a nice romance. Fans of sports romances will enjoy this one.
