The GriMM Tales

The Frog Prince

Rate this book
A man without a crown could still be a prince. But what about a monster?

Adalwin has always been a prince.
Born into royalty as the heir to the throne of Hallin, he was raised to rule a kingdom.
Only, the one he receives is not the one he expected.
Cruelly cursed and presumed dead by all who once knew him, his kingdom is now made up of a murky glen where water-splashers dwell and crooked linden trees block the light. Sitting on a throne built from bracken and moss, his only subjects are those creatures that won’t run in terror at first glance.
After all, who could swear fealty to a monster?
Only the bravest cross the borders into the Frog Prince’s kingdom, drawn by whispered rumors of a boon should you meet his price. An opportunity for him to show the man underneath the monster—a chance to break the curse’s shackles and return home.
When a beautiful, kind-hearted man with hair blessed by the sun itself stumbles into his lair looking to make a deal, more than just Adalwin’s interest is stirred. Maybe his lonely heart is too.
But when the man tries to break the deal, the Frog Prince must come to collect.

Each book set in the GriMM fairytale world can be read as a standalone and contains its own Happily Ever After story. But we do recommend reading each one, as the tales are connected to each other in multiple magical ways.

This had potential but it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a monster romance or a cute fluffy one and the frog sex was an interesting choice. I wish the characters and the plot had been more developed. Things felt rather weak all over and a bit too Insta for me. Although there were some cute moments I found it tricky to really connect with either character.

The beginning took a long time to grab me and the first sex scene felt really odd with the frog humping scenario. I started to get more invested in the second half but was still disappointed at how easily everything was resolved. There was also some inconsistencies that I wish had been tidied up. Maybe this would be better having read Cinder’s book first, as he and his partner feature in this one. I admire the authors going there with the weird froggy sex and I’m all for trying new things but I would have enjoyed their dynamic much more without it.

I will leave some gloriously bizarre quotes from the frog smut. Please look away if you want to avoid spoilers!

“He began to swim, each frog-kick of his legs pressing them together and then apart. The friction was hard to ignore, his mind conjuring images of Otto behind him for a different reason entirely.”

“He wasn’t human. He couldn’t kiss him like a man would. He couldn’t purse this wide mouth enough to catch lips, or tangle tongues in passion.”

“His hind brain had taken over. The frog part that said: Mate. Breed. Come. “Don’t stop.” Otto groaned, giving him permission, kissing at his neck as he met his thrusts with powerful ones of his own. “Let me hear you. That croak drives me wild.”

“Fully exposed in all of his inhuman glory. Green skin, long limbs, a soft cock hanging between his legs without balls to rest on.”

“His eyes caught on green skin against pale. Four webbed fingers spread over a human back. A cock without balls disappearing inside Otto, aided by the slick Alwin’s body had produced.”

This was an eye opening experience and one I’m glad to have shared with my book club girlies 🐸🤣

Okay, but with some cut and pasting, this could have been an really solid book 🐸
Because choices were made in the pacing for sure... and I did find the writing very novice, but the ideas and bones of the book were solid enough to carry it.

HOWEVER, that sexual scene at 20% in HAD ME RUNNNNNNNNNNNING TO SMASH THAT METAPHORICAL DNF BUTTON OMG. It look every ounce of my sanity until the rest of that chapter to continue...

And NO, before the monster fucker fans come at me in the chat, it's NOT because he's a frog... It's because the timing for anything sexual to happen by that time... WAS FUCKING WEIRD. They literally didn't know eachother or have a reason for this????

I actually LOVE that this "monster" was actually monster-shaped, and not just some green human hyrbrid wrapped up in the phony pretense of being a "monster fucker" book.
Homie had a fucking oval head, bulgy eyes, froggy texture, extended arms and legs, lack of ears and tiny frog ass (lol the bum thing was weird tho ngl hahahah).

It also needs to be said that "standalone" whilst TECHNICALLY YES........ There is so much confusion and lack of joy felt because I didn't understand the cameo's. Lowkey sick of things being marketed as standalone, when like.... yes technically... BUT YOU GOT NO CONTEXT?? So those moments felt lacking, or random? Like I didn't know where they fit in to this story because I haven't read the others.
Please read the other books. Especially the Cinder one, and which ever book the Queen was introduced in because fuck that was confusing.

Srsly..... If you cut ALL sexual encounters before 60% and gave us a little more relationship building and cute moments in the beginning, this would have slapped.
BECAUSE WHEN THESE TWO WERE BEING CUTE?????? IT WAS SO CUTE??? IT WAS BORDERLINE SQUEAL WORTHY??
But there was 2 or 3 squeal worthy moments added in at the randomest time after frog boning and falling in love had already commenced for not much reason.

I think this would just be more enjoyable read in order, so there is context to fill in the blanks.

Under the green skin and wrapped around brittle bones he was still there. And he had so much to offer to someone, if only they’d take the time to look.

September was unintentionally MM retelling month for me, and out of the others I’ve read The Frog Prince turned out to be my favorite.
I never thought frogs could be sexy.

“I’m not human. I can’t kiss you the way a man would.” “I am very aware of that,” Otto replied, almost shy. “I… I don’t mind that.”

Ahh, okay I gotta be honest. I cheated. I didn’t picture Alwin in all his froggy glory, with the squished face and bald head, bulging frog eyes and stretched mouth. I couldn’t do it. My brain just automatically went back to imagining a sexy green dude with four fingers. So that possibly helped with the sexiness factor.

“I want to be inside you, my prince,” he said. “Let me.”

Their story is mostly sweet and tender, lots of hurt/comfort, a journey of self-acceptance and love and family. But it was also hotttt. I did not expect the scary frog prince to practically melt for Otto, becoming this sweet and shy cuddly bottom.
And Otto was all sunshine, a hot muscly boy with a gentle heart.

“You can hold me back,” Otto murmured. Alwin shook his head. “I am afraid to.” “Why?”
“I fear I won’t be able to let go.”

The frog prince deserves all the hugs and love.
I don’t actually think I’ve ever read the original story, so I’m not sure how much this one resembles it, but even without the retelling aspect, this was just a sweet fantasy, with lots of cute frogs and a prince not only finding someone who loves all of him, but also learning to love himself.

“You didn’t need saving, my prince,” Otto said. “You were always perfect.”

Thank you AM Rose for sending me a copy of this book!

Arc Review: The Frog Prince (The GriMM Tales) by A.M. Rose
MC:Alwin & Otto | 5⭐

Otto…”
“You’re stunning,” Otto said, his hands finally stilling in their spot around Alwin’s back, holding him close. “You’re everything I never thought I needed.”
“Yours,” Alwin said, burying his head into Otto’s shoulder as he shook in his arms. He tugged at Otto’s shirt, fastening his lips on Otto’s skin, his body pulling him deeper inside with each wet-sounding thrust.
“My beautiful prince,” Otto said.

This story broke my heart in all the best ways. Alwin has endured so much, always putting his people (human and frog alike) above himself, and you can feel the weight of those sacrifices in every page. He deserves all the love in the world, and thankfully Otto is stubborn enough to eventually give it.

That said, Otto didn’t exactly make a great first impression. Taking the cure with no intention of keeping his side of the bargain? Let’s just say my trust issues flared right up. But watching him grow, let go of his prejudices, and finally see Alwin for who he is made the payoff worth it.

I’ve always liked the original fairytale’s “true worth is within” message, and this retelling captured that perfectly. The descriptions of Alwin in his frog form were so vivid that I almost didn’t want to let go of that image, even after the curse broke. He became my soft frog boy wrapped in lily pads, while Otto gave me the protective, slightly exasperating knight figure I secretly adore.

The romance? Tender and beautiful.
The angst? Sharp and satisfying.
The spice? Definitely there.

And the frog companions, Farwin and Jurgen, had me grinning every time they appeared.

My only small issue is that the physical attraction between Otto and Alwin happened a little earlier than I would’ve liked. Personally, I wanted their emotional connection to take the lead before the sparks. But once they found their footing, the relationship was stunning.

This is officially my favorite! This series has been such an incredible surprise—every story is so well-crafted, with such a thoughtful queer approach. It’s also introduced me to new authors I’m absolutely going to keep reading. Love it! I also love that this stories all blend together, theres always someone from the previous books of a mention of them 🐸✨ And now I’m so curious about Rumpelstilzchen… let’s go!

It’s a tale of sacrifice, betrayal, healing, and one of the hardest-earned HEAs I’ve read in a while. By the end, I felt like I’d been wrapped in a warm (and slightly damp) hug. All hail frog king! 🐸👑

Alwin’s head pressed back against the stone as he keened, mouth open wide. His legs clamped around Otto’s hips and he thrust wildly. “Because I can’t stop,” he sobbed. “I can’t…”His hind brain had taken over. The frog part that said: Mate. Breed. Come.
“Don’t stop.” Otto groaned, giving him permission, kissing at his neck as he met his thrusts with powerful ones of his own. “Let me hear you. That croak drives me wild.”

My king,” he said and Alwin placed the crown carefully on the chaise before throwing himself into Otto’s embrace, arms locked over his broad shoulders, knees braced on either side of his barrel chest.
“Everyone else’s king,” Alwin said. “Your prince.”
“I can live with that.” Otto swayed them gently to music only he could hear.
“Good, because you promised me beyond forever.”
“And I keep my promises,” Otto said before pulling back and claiming Alwin’s lips with his own.
The young master and his prince.

This was the most charming, sweet and quietly funny book I have read in a long time, and it exceeded every expectation. I shared so many screenshots with friends while reading and I struggled with picking favorite quotes because there's just so many good ones. It also packed quite the emotional punch and made me cry many times. I've struggled to find books that really draw me in lately, so this was just the best little treat. I enjoyed every page, and the writing was so fitting, consistent and well done.

Otto and Alwin were two of the most precious main characters I've read and I adored them equally as individuals and as a couple. It's also entirely worth reading for the hilarious interactions with the gaggle of sassy and gossip-y frog friends alone.

An easy 5 stars, highly recommend.

Thank you to the authors for the ARC.

“Friends,” he said, “we have three days to make this place presentable. I believe the one I have been waiting for has finally come to find me.” The frogs puffed up in excitement, their cheeks and chests rounding with restrained croaks. “I will allow a moment of excitement,” he said, and the cacophony that followed washed over him like a tidal wave.

He wasn’t supposed to lose hope without ever truly finding it.

Otto nodded, giving him a small, closed-mouthed smile that Alwin was sure he would see in his dreams later if the universe was kind.

“Pushing you away would mean denying what my very soul craves,” Alwin whispered.

He could make peace with being the monster if he was loved.

This was very unique.

I think it would have worked way better if you had read Cinder first, feels like authors do a disservice to their own books by marketing them as standalone when they read better as part of a series.

The pacing was a bit wonky with the frog back humping coming out of nowhere a bit. It also took me until about 30-40% to really get into the story (but again probably would have been different if I read Cinder first.)

I’ve read and enjoyed a lot of monster books but I’m sorry it turns out frog human hybrids are where I draw the line. All the cold moist skin and lack of lips and long gross tongue and tiny frog butt cheeks repulsed me a bit and I simply could not. I also got curious what a sexy frog human hybrid even looks like but when I asked ChatGPT it said my request went against their policy so not only did I subject myself to this frog porn book but I am now also on a government watch list for being a frog pervert.

Oh, this series. Got me all emotional this one, not gonna lie 🤧

Alwin is The Frog Prince. Otto tries to find him to make a bargain for his very sick sister. And finding him he does, although their meeting does not work in his advance at first, at least that's what he thinks.

Alwin is such a poor soul and I fell for him so hard cause he really just wants to live his life 🥺

Otto is afraid at first, but he does warm up to him and then things get super sweet and spicy.

This series really is for everyone who loves their MM romance with a bit of magic and all the plots and twists 🥰

Spoiler alert people: this is a monster romance. the clue is in the title. The number of reviews complaining that a monster romance has monster sex in is ridiculous. If you came to this book not expecting that and then bitch about it... That is a choice I am 100% judging you for.

Finally the eternal question is answered: what if Kermit was fuckable?

I LOVED this book. I had high hopes for The Frog Prince but AM Rose blew them out of the pond water with a story of two of the squishiest cinnamon rolls, a whole chorus of frog friends, and the promise of unconditional love and acceptance for our frog boy prince.

The relationship? Stunning. The angst? Immaculate. The spice? Sizzling. You will never look at frogs in the same way again.

Alwin is my precious soft frog boy who needs wrapping in all the lily pads. Otto is my naughty but nice protector who learns to look past his own prejudices to see how utterly beautiful his Frog Prince is.

And Farwin and Jürgen are my croaky companions whose shenanigans never failed to make me smile!

There are some very (VERY) minor spoilers for Cinder but you can absolutely read this book as a standalone if you want to. Or pick up the whole series today because it's all amazing!

I am unwell about this book. It was the softest, moistest hug. All hail frog boy!

I received an advanced review copy of this book, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

I remember the Frog Prince fairytale from when I was a kid, and obviously all of the various retellings over the years, but I think this is one of my favourite versions.

Alwin and Otto are just adorable together - well, once you get past the initial betrayal! The way they look after each other and care for each other was so heartwarming and I kept whispering 'kiss the prince!!!' like I was in The Little Mermaid 😂😂

I've always liked the message from this fairytale that beauty and worth is within so you shouldn't judge a person on their exterior appearance, and this was really well done here. The description of Alwin as the Frog Prince was really vivid and made it easy to picture him - to the point that my brain kind of refused to let go of that version of him once the curse had been broken!

I do kind of wish that there'd been more of a resolution with Queen Schon though! I wanted retribution for Alwin!

I don’t know. It’s been a few days since I finished this book and to my surprise I didn’t like it all that much. For way too long I wasn’t a fan of Otto and the creepy sex dreams at the beginning almost ruined the whole thing. If it wasn’t for Alwin, the Frog Prince and his little froggy friends (and yeah, some cute moments between the MCs too) this actually would’ve been a bust.

This book is exactly what I have come to expect from AM Rose. It was just so lovely and wonderful. Moments that had me melting from how cute it was, and crying from heartbreak. And then smiling at the cuddly warmth I felt from the love these two characters developed for each other. Even with the handful of moments that tugged at my heart, most of this book felt cozy and sweet. The little frog friends were adorable. I loved how Otto ended up being so good for Alwin, who deserves all the sweet love and acceptance that he can get. 10/10 - absolutely loved it.

Here's AM Rose's "The Frog Prince." It's a novel the new multi-author series, The GriMM Tales.

["A man without a crown could still be a prince. But what about a monster?

When a beautiful, kind-hearted man with hair blessed by the sun itself stumbles into his lair looking to make a deal, more than just Adalwin’s interest is stirred. Maybe his lonely heart is too.
But when the man tries to break the deal, the Frog Prince must come to collect."]

I was very much not prepared for how soft Alwin was. His heart, his soul. His subjects. His Otto. He fell hopelessly in love with Otto from the very beginning. At first, it was just the hope of it all. But it quickly became real.

Real for Otto, too. He didn't know why he was having these dreams when he was supposed to be afraid of the monster in the forest. Until he realized how far from a monster his Alwin was. Alwin looked different on the outside than humans did, but he cared, he embarrassed, he grieved.

And all this time, I'm crossing my fingers the Cin and Ren are right around the corner. Then again, I'm sure the evil witch is, too so....

Trigger Warnings: death of minor characters, terminal illness, violence, mild gore, mild power imbalance/dub-con, body horror, mentions of gambling, mild fantasy racism/classism, famine, and more.

So, from all the books in the series, this was the monsterfucking one? I did not see that coming. But I love Otto's kinky ass, immediately lusting after the creepy frog man. I feel you.

Otto's bothered nightmares were intense and wonderful, I was so onboard. So I was almost disappointed when the love story turned much, much sweeter. But it was also pretty smart and funny how completely off Otto had been. (I still would have wanted more mosterfucking though.)

Otto is a great character, his initial cowardice shows us he is not perfect, but the whole frog man kink here makes his fear and confusion more understandable. Honestly, it was excellent. Alwin's love for his frogs was lovely, as were the frogs themselves.

The villain on the other hand was very lame (which I think was the point) but mainly I'm still holding a bigger grudge to that village. I'm okay that the villagers weren't left to die, but I would have been so passive aggressive while healing them.

I think I would have preferred to keep the intensity of the first chapters here but I also enjoyed the slower and sweeter growing friendship and love. This book was definitely a pleasant surprise, it wasn't really the one I was looking forward to, but it's probably my favourite so far.

Well excuse me, but being sexually attracted to a frog was not on my bingo card for 2025. Seriously, why is Alwin so attractive!?

To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting much out of this GriMM tale, and for that I say, SHAME ON ME. This was so well done, and Otto and Alwin are such a perfect couple, I couldn’t get enough of them. Otto’s love for Alwin was so pure and true! Everyone needs to find themselves a man who loves like Otto does. 🥺💚

There’s some surprise appearances from past characters, and as always, the crossover scenes are standouts.

Long live the Froggy Frotting! Alwins froggy bod reminded me very much of an omega character with the way his anatomy was written. Who knew frogs could get so horny? So obviously, I will be reading this one again🤣

This was a 5/5 star read for me

This was very very sweet, like cotton candy and marshmallows 🥰 That being said I had a hard time connecting with the characters at first, but after that the story flowed and it was highly entertaining. I loved Otto and Alwyn dynamic. It wasn’t easy for them to click.Otto had so many reservations and he was scared at first, but he was kind and sweet and the first to realise that there was something there a connection that was undeniable. He made so many sweet gestures, he tried to accommodate and show Alwyn kindness. His sister - Queen! That girl served! As all female characters, except the queen bitch Shonn this one could choke, I hope her death is as gruesome as she is. And to our frog prince. OMG he was precious. He was so lonely and he believed he didn’t deserve love, but that is what he found. The love and acceptance Otto gave him ❤️❤️❤️ and then with his family. I really like how all things resolved in this book it was absolutely lovely

Well then. I'm not really familiar with the original fairy tale of The Frog Prince, but I really really enjoyed this! It did give me Beauty and the Beast vibes, which I actually loved, haha.

Despite not being familiar with the original tale, this still swept me away and completely grabbed me from the start. A bit too much, actually. I might've stayed up too late finishing it in one go. Oops? I just felt for Alwin and Otto so deeply. Alwin especially made my heart ache. This is such a beautiful story and their romance was wonderful.

The Frog Prince tells a story of hope and beauty and love and I absolutely adored it. Also, trust A.M. Rose to unlock a strange, new kink with... frogs? Hah.

This book was so perfect for me. It got me feeling Big Emotions™️, and I definitely cried. But I will say that most of the crying consisted of happy tears and a few were tears bc the characters were just so cute I couldn’t stand it. It wasn’t all fluff, but it was the right amount of sweetness to have me squealing.

The frogs. Omg. They are SO cute with their little froggy brains and demands and advice. Farwin, in particular, is a precious little friend.

The romance is very swoony! I loved it. Otto and Alwin were meant to be (even if Otto was a little resistant at first… but his subconscious/unconscious mind knew better, muahahaha 😈🐸💦).

The spice… ok well let’s just say I talked my friend into reading this book by saying “sexy frog stuff,” and she was like, “say no more!” Lol. Listen, I loved it. It was different and I vibed with that.

This is now one of my favorite books ever.

"You have me, Otto," Alwin whispered. "I am no prize, but you have won anyway."
"It is a prize if the winner values it. And I will count myself lucky for as long as I have you."

I think The Frog Prince might be my unequivocal favourite of the GriMM Tales so far.

There was something so cozy, so magical, so enchanting, about Otto and Alwin's story and I fell so hard for both of them. I was drawn in with the promise of suction-cup fingers and froggy frotting, and ended up having my heart absolutely shredded and pieced very carefully back together by two incredibly talented authors.

Otto and Alwin were more than just two touch-starved protagonists, they were both sweet, and kind, and desperate to be seen and needed. They wanted so much out of life, yet had been resigned to having nothing - to sitting back and watching the world pass them by while they desperately tried to find their place and help the ones they love.
Otto is the kindest soul. He did everything he could for his sister, even choosing to give up his freedom for her, while also trying his best to protect his whole village. Alwin, my soft sweet love, cared so much about his frogs, his family, and his kingdom, and the guilt he felt over having to "abandon" his duty was palpable.
Both of these selfless, generous creatures deserved the absolute world. And they found that in each other.

Their love was beautiful. While it started rocky, with a hefty dose of betrayal, they soon found a rhythm with each other that was as soothing to them as the cacophony of frog calls echoing around their swamp. They fell into sync so easily and it was so clear how perfect they were for each other. They were both so tender with each other, and every move they made was with the others comfort and happiness in mind. it truly made me feel so warm and fuzzy to read something so sweet in such a brutal world.

In saying that, The Frog Prince didn't stray far from he rest of the GriMM Tales in terms of darkness. I enjoyed the way the book balanced dark with light. It included heavy themes like body horror, dub-con, and mild gore, to name a few, but the sweetness of the romance really bled through and elevated this story to a whole new level.

And it was steamy as heck. Right from the first spicy encounter, when they were still not quite sure about each other, you could tell that they were falling hard. As their confidence in each other and their own bodies grew, so did the intimacy between them. There were some scenes where I truly felt like I was intruding on a private, intimate moment. Only one lily pad really was the trope of all tropes. And my god was it hot. I guess you're never quite ready for an amphibian kink, but life comes at you fast.

It was also lovely to see Cin and Ren again. I'd missed them.

5/5 stars for this one. I know the story is going to stay with me long after the series is over as a comfort read. How could it not when everything about it was so cozy and magical?

**4.5**
Easily one of my favourites of the series so far. I'm a big fan of A.M. Rose books already and this is so perfectly them. It's not as dark as some of the other books in the GriMM series but the dark undercurrent of just how the Frig Prince came to be and the struggles he deals with on a daily basis.
Otto is his lifeline, to feeling human and connected again, but also as the possible key to ending his curse. Otto is a wonderful person. Looking to save his sister and willing to sacrifice his self, at least until he gets home. The drama and tension throughout holds strong, and the suspense and mystery illnesses in Otto's village are intriguing enough to have him striving to find the cure for them also.
AM have managed to make what could have just been gritty and dark also be magical and hopeful, for love, acceptance and the safe return to Alwin's family. Alwin's connection to the frogs around him is so wonderful to read, especially Farwin and Jurgen. Such personalities and really shows the prince's softer, caring side.
I cannot recommend this enough! A fantastic addition to an already brilliant series and I cannot wait as we slowly come to the conclusion. The connections between the books have also been well done and entertaining.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

"There once was a boy that had understood him without knowing him. Not even his name."

This is the second book I've read in this multi-authored series and I'm pretty sure these stories aren't for me. This story was well written but just a bit too dark and violent. I'm a softie and I can't stand to see anyone hurting unnecessarily. I know that the original Grimm fairy tales were also dark and violent so I don't know why I thought this series would be different. Lol, the jokes on me. This was not Mr Toad's Wild Ride.

I love the combined talent of these two authors, writing as A.M. Rose that's why I decided to read this story in the series as well.

I loved both of the main characters and was happy to see they got their HEA albeit not the perfect ending where Alwin could truly be himself.

Cursed by a wicked Queen that couldn't stand rejection, given magic to grant wishes, a healer in search of a cure, there's always a price to pay for the wielder of the magic

I was very fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from the GriMM tales series. This was perhaps my favorite book in this series thus far. I really loved that both of the characters were so fully realized and fleshed out. The relationship between Otto and Alwin was very sweet and progressed into a very endearing love story.

The lead up to this installment of the series really helped to set it up for me. I have been looking forward to this story and it did not disappoint. The minor characters were delightful and the frogs were adorable. I know that all the books in this series have a happily ever after but this one felt like it tied up multiple happily ever afters and seems to be prepping us for an exciting final conflict.

✨️ARC Review✨️

I honestly can’t put into words how much I love this book—Alwin and Otto are just absolute cutie pies! 🥹 With Alwin, I was sure from the start that he’d be adorable, and I was so right. And that ending!!! Omg, it made me so, so happy. This story was beautifully done and is definitely one of my top favorites from the series so far.

A lonely monster, half man, half frog, a desperate man in need of a cure for his sister. Two souls looking for their missing piece.

These two. OMFG. I love them so much!! After Otto overcomes his first prejudices, he quickly recognises the lost and lonely soul, that is Alwin. Accepting him for who he is and not for his looks, caring for the man within the monster. "The Frog Prince" is a beautiful retelling of the original fairy tale, giving it more depth and feelings, creating a unique story about acceptance and finding love in unusual places.

The Frog Prince is part of the multi author The GriMM Tales series. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the whole series. This is the MM retelling of The Frog Prince. This is the story of Prince Adalwin who is cursed and Otto a kind sweet guy. I loved this book so much. I don't know why a frog prince would be hot but he was. The story is a perfect mix of a retelling and something new. These two were just meant to be together. I think this is my favorite book in this series so far. I would definitely recommend this book and series.

⭐ 5 Stars – I Would Die for Alwin and Otto, Actually

The Frog Prince by A.M. Rose was phenomenal; I had an absolute blast reading it. This MM fairytale retelling has everything I love: palpable emotion, immersive worldbuilding, and characters who feel stitched directly into my soul. I could feel the connection between Alwin and Otto in every glance, sacrifice, and moment shared between them. I would do anything for them. Truly. Don’t even get me started on Farwin and Jürgen — I adore them just as much.

One of my favorite parts of this book is how it ties into the other interconnected standalones in the GriMM Tales series. Cameos from characters like Cinder (and more!) are such a treat, and instead of feeling like simple references, they make the world feel layered, magical, and deeply lived in.

The emotional beats are beautifully done; yearning, devotion, heartbreak, and hope all come through so clearly. The curse, the loneliness, the quiet tenderness…it all made my heart ache in the best way. This can absolutely be read as a standalone, but if you've read the others, it feels like coming home to familiar faces in a new fairytale.

If you love fairytale retellings, MM romance, curses, devotion, and beautifully interconnected worlds, this is a must-read.

Okay, hear me out: if you're into monster romance then you've read some things, right? So reading about some of the stranger physical reactions of a frog's mating process shouldn't be that weird! For me, I'm not going to lie, it was a little weird. But honestly, the love story between Otto and Alwin is so pure that perfect that it kind of worked!

The whole visual of Alwin making Otto a bed from a giant lily pad was heartbreaking in so many ways - as was being in Alwin's mind in general. The hurt/comfort of their relationship is so perfect and the tie in with DN Bryn's Cinder - while still maintaining the standalone nature of the series - is great.

Thank you to AM Rose forthe opportunity to read and review The Frog Prince prior to its release.

📗4.5→5 stars. Read on 29th Nov, 2025. Reading in this order: Little Red → Rumplestilskin → Frog Prince → Cinder → Zel → Hansel → Snow white.

This was a ride and a half. For the life of me i cannot rate Alwin's book low, bcuz he deserves nothing but 5 stars. But how do i give this book a full rating when i despise the other human MC in the book? More in the “issues” section.

i know you probably won’t read the full review, i just felt compelled to pen down everything i could. So just pick whichever parts you like: The good, the issues, or simply the tags.

🔹Story- 4.5⭐, Characters- 5 (Alwin, frogs, the royal family ONLY)⭐, Sex- 3.5⭐, Epilogue- 5⭐

Alwin absolutely stole my heart. He's one of those such characters who have had a deep impact in me. But the human MC.. i will not say anything nice nor pretty about the human mc. So if you like him, i'd suggest you only read all the good stuffs listed here and leave it at there.

Frogbert from Palia game as Frog Prince, my bbe Gigi Goode as Alwin.

Let’s start with the good, shall we?

🐸Dude!! So this story happens at the same time as Rumple’s. Since i read his first, the guy with the severed ear at the start is the SAME guy Rumple attacked in his book! And Cinder’s magical surgery was done by Alwin! Happened before Frog Prince.. i really should’ve read that first.
Aawww and near the end of Red’s story cuz the frogs heard the mating howls from Wim and Red!! 🥺🥺

🐸What i loved the most was of course, Prince Alwain, the Frog Prince. So i present a little character study of him to show just how good his characterisation was.

This one is all about self-acceptance, being loved for who you are, and real parental love, the kind that actually chooses you. And who better to tell that than the Frog Prince himself? 💙

Human enough not to be a frog, but frog enough to make everything human about him fade almost to nothing.

i like the description given of Alwin as frog. So he's an anthro so not an actual frog.

Every day was a fight against a body he didn’t want, sometimes in awe of the things he could do, sometimes hating every difference so much he wanted to tear his skin off.

His circumstance was tragic, but he’d made peace with it. Don't wanna get to personal but i relate to him a lot. The self loathe, the making amends with the disaster we've dealt with, everything. That's why, unfortunately, everything became personal. His sadness became mine, his happiness, mine.

“I will give you a cure for your sister, and in return you will come back and stay with me. We will eat together, sleep together, spend time together. Be inseparable. Your presence for her life,”

He had no one, so he befriended the frog, but you can see he also yearned for someone to believe in him. Save him. That felt like the most real to me. His little smiles, his soft mannerisms were adorable and heartbreaking. His talks with the froggy fwends were cute and devastating. 😭 He even traded the froggy’s pain for his. Is there no end to the pain. :(

Alwin had never made friends with betrayal or lies, the poison of them not to be borne. But here he was, staring at the one who had tried to deceive him, and he could think about nothing except how beautiful he was.
Pathetic.
Unwise.
“Lovely,” Alwin said.

But Alwin's a pushover, poor bbe. :( Love completely blinded him and ended up giving up more than he possibly could.

And not once did the man stop being a benevolent and majestic Prince.

🐸This was angsty af! 😭 This has no business making me cry this early in the book. i was terribly anxious bcuz i feared a betrayal would inevitably arise somewhere down the story… and it did.

🐸 Farwin is best! the frog said in lieu of a greeting.

Aww i love how froggy Farwin is the same energetically as the human was! 🥺

🐸i would say it's a very good world building. By now, we can see how magic works in this world. Magic can detect other magic, can react to it, can be bargained with also. And this story is all about bargaining.

🐸The witty n dry banter was cute. Once they form their... Friendship? Situationship? idc, the human guy was protective of Alwin. So, their banter style is witty. i love impromptu rp banter and this had it.

“I think you should be able to fit, though it isn’t the most elegant,” Otto said.
“Are you trying to strip me of my dignity, young master? Offering me a barrel instead of a copper tub?” Alwin played along.
“I wouldn’t dare to offend your delicate sensibilities, Your Royal Highness. But this is all this humble one has to offer. I hope it will do.” He bowed deeply.

🐸There are 2 sex scene. At 72% Alwin still as a frog. It was so cute 🥺 They made froggy sex look hot oof. The 2nd one towards the end. Both vers and very responsive. As always with AM Rose’s writings.

🐸Loved the entire scene with Alwin's parents and Lorenz. The king and queen were such nice parents. This was a refreshing thing to see. Not that Oma was bad either but still.

Now i have issues with this book, the main issue being the human MC.

♦i didn’t like him. At all. Was i supposed to feel sad for this guy? Cuz i felt nothing. His pov was a waste and i kept waiting to get back to Alwin. He was disgusted by Alwin but also having wet dreams about him?? Wouldn’t even return to fulfil the deal yet had “bride” fantasies. What a bitch.

Again story tried so hard to portray him as some angel, always caring about others. But fact remains he is deeply unlikeable. It's very simple: If you hurt Alwin, you don't deserve love, respect or sympathy.

“I mean you no harm,” he said, and the voice inside Otto whispered that he already knew that. He was coming to see it with every passing moment. “I find that hard to believe,” he said, fighting against it. “Have I given you any reason to believe I would cause you harm?”
..

| “Well it worked out in your favour, didn’t it?” Otto didn’t want to stop bickering. He didn’t want the guilt to work its way to the surface. He was at fault, but blaming the monster was easier than admitting he was behaving like one too.

And he knew Alwin meant him no harm, yet still lied that Alwin forced him into the bargain. God he was infuriating! i hate him so much!

➤And then, all of a sudden he had a different tune to sing. Of how Alwin offered to stay when he didn't have to. Saying sorry, etc, as if he didn’t just say some of the most vile shit just prior. 🙄

“You…you saved my sister, Alwin. You helped me try to find the cure for others. You protected my home and me. The least I can do is try and make this bearable for you.”

Oh NOW it's Alwin who protected his sister?? No more playing the blame game? Finally that mofo admitted that all this was his fault. If only he'd had returned to the forest all would've been well.

➤It took a lot of bargaining and Alwin constantly risking his life for this cretin for him to realise Alwin’s not a monster and that he actually cares.

➤Why would you suddenly kiss someone you previously hated/felt extremely fearful of? idk. Everything was so sudden, the kiss, the rutting, the “oh maybe Alwin isn’t a monster” revelation, all. It was all totally jarring.

➤But fine: he did get a full character arc. His heart changed, and by the end he genuinely cared for Alwin. i just never trusted him. What he did at the end was expected. Maybe he's not so bad. It is the ultimate act of redemption after all.

♦And don’t get me started on the sister. Initially wanting to rat Alwin out so more villagers could make deals?? Girl, when the brother has to explain morality to you, sit down and listen. Be grateful your life was cured, maybe?? No? Ungrateful. Never once thanked Alwin.

Well.. of course even she had a “change of heart”. Still don't like her. But the more people who love Alwin, the better, i suppose.

♦i had a problem with how the curse broke and what happened to Alwin afterward. He ended up looking like a half-human, half-frog actual monster only his face, shoulders, arms, and legs came back. The rest including his throat sac, dick, ass slick, stayed froggy. Honestly, his fully froggy appearance was very adorable and not a monster at all. i understand he gave parts of himself up, but why, even after the curse broke, wasn’t he given a better restoration? Why not one whole hand, 2 whole feet, etc instead of this patchwork?

Minor plot inconvenience. What happened to the human's chest wound? How did it heal? No explanation given.

♦Aww bummer. So the midnight tea party with Shadow and Herz is teased in the book but it's actually an extra that may be found in the author's website.
