When an EMP strikes, plunging the West Coast into chaos, Alan Hughes must lead a group of boys stranded far from their Alaskan home, while his wife, Zara, prepares their homestead for long-term survival. With communication down and society crumbling, they face impossible choices in this gripping post-EMP survival thriller. Perfect for fans of EMP survival fiction and dystopian novels, this story dives deep into the challenges of off-grid living, prepping for the end of the world, and the fight for survival against overwhelming odds.
Moderately lousy writing and worse character development. Plotting might be at least OK were it not for the fact that the author makes us bunnyhop from pov to pov. Three character groups and just as one hits crisis we are expected to dash madly to another. Drove me nuts! Sad! From the description, I had such hopes. Just because it was a freebie doesn't mean it couldn't be good.
And then, out of nowhere, The End. Would I lie? A short, short story. Barely a beginning, an undeveloped section of a middle, tossed asunder in the dust, left to writhe itself to death. Alone. Without a real end at all. Oh, sigh, whatever happened to truth in advertising!?! Shame on you, freebie book list and Amazon too, for making me think this was the plot of a book.
There's more verbiage attached, unrelated. But I just couldn't. Once burned . . .
I read through the whole set in a week. Very plot based, where power and electronic devices no longer work and immediate chaos happens. There were four books in this set, but they could all be read independently. Most of the stories involved heavy weaponry and fighting against bad people who want to use others as slaves. Families were separated and then had to fight their way back to unification.
Good story line but just poor writing. Take away the very over done swearing and constant rehashing of what is happening and there isn't anything left. Really a disappointment
